Can watch the documentary on Amazon Prime. It seems no one knows what they are doing, apart from the French Singh and the professors/professionals. The families are growing, profit from farming isn't providing. The arti/money lending system is increasing interest rates, farmers can't pay them back. Usage of pesticides seems to be linked to the use of drugs. Pesticides are poisoning the soil, water is poisoned, air is polluted. They set the fields on fire which kills the soil and the ecosystem of the soil. The pesticides are sold my multinational companies. Lack of education and awareness is a major thing. Not sure which part of Punjab this documentary was made in but there seems to be a lot of poverty, 110 villages had one college, don't think there are many NRIs from this region. Farming problem is having a domino effect on the rest of the village. But there is hope, small organizations headed by well informed individuals who care, are trying to do something about it. It does seem that it is a bit to late to reverse some of these problems!
I feel sorry for the little Singh with the green patka working in the fields! He should be in school playing with other kids. His hand looks damaged/burnt. And the young lady with the White chunni trying to get an education and help her parents, hope she does well.
