  6. Now Sukhbir Badal invites suggestions on Facebook for changing lives of the people By RACHHPAL SINGH+ Published: June 8, 2014 Moga, Punjab (June 08, 2014): After enjoying power in the state of Punjab for seven and half a year in dictator styel, Punjab deputy chief minister and president Sukhbir Singh Badal wants to know that how the life of people could be changed. The junior Badal has invited suggestions on his facebook account from the people last late evening. He updated his Facebook status, Give me one suggestion on what the Punjab Government should do to change your life? I may not be able to respond to each of you but I will read each one. 7371 people have given their suggestion by commenting on his status within 19 hours while over 8700 people liked the status and 363 people shared his status so far. Most of the suggestions are from struggling employees, who asked junior Badal to solve various demands of the employees. Some of the people asked deputy CM to expel Revenue and Public relation minister Bikram Singh Majithia while some asked him to quite the Badal family from the Punjab politics. Some people asked to make government departments corruption free while some suggested making the state drug free. Media adviser of the Punjab deputy CM Harmeet Singh Dhillon, when contacted said, The state government did enough in Bathinda under development projects but the vote margin was very low for Harsimrat. Similarly, captain Amrinders family did enough in Patiala but his wife Parneet Kaur lost to a new party candidate. Thinking that the development should not be enough for the people, SUkhbir might have invited suggestion that what the people want. 7. This happens to all outsiders whether you are in US or India. Mingle with like minded people at Uni & work place. Avoid negative people & situations. Keep in mind that you are there to study/work not to socialise. If you want to socialise do so after study/work hours with people outside Uni & work place. Visit Gurdwara, have Langar, do Saadhsangat, then Seva and later socialise with Sangat.

  11. Sikh community group launching mental health scheme after increase in sufferers seeking help Beth Wyatt, Reporter Thursday, June 5, 2014 9:34 AM A community organisation is launching a mental health scheme due to a rise in sufferers seeking its help. The Sikh Community Care Project is raising money for workshop sessions, which will support affected people and their families. Jasbir Sanger, the groups project manager, said: More and more people are coming in with depression and a lot of [other] mental health conditions and stress-related conditions. The numbers have risen over the past two years and are getting higher and higher. More people are at least acknowledging it. But the organisation, based in Argyle Road, Ilford, has also been visited by people whose families will not accept that they have mental health conditions. One such visitor was a young woman with bipolar disorder, whose family did not want to acknowledge her illness. Mrs Sanger said: They got her married and now it is affecting her married life, because the family dont understand what is wrong with her. That is why we thought it was important to do this now; we are trying to get people to understand that support is out there so [they] dont let it get worse. As well as attending the workshops, people will be able to visit outside them to receive support. The organisation, which began in 1992, primarily supports elderly and disabled people, women and young people. It provides help in areas such as health and crime and organises a range of projects and self-help programmes. The group is hosting a charity dinner and dance tomorrow to kick off fundraising for the project. It will take place at the City Pavilion in Collier Row Road, Romford, from 7pm to 12am. For more information on the Sikh Community Care Project or its new scheme, email Mrs Sanger on sccpredbridge@yahoo.co.uk or call 020 8554 3377. 13. How to Create Good Karma for Yourself Karma is the act, work or deed that affects our future life and also, our life in the next birth. The concept of Karma puts a lot of emphasis, not just on our actions but on our intent as well. Good actions done with good intent help you create Good Karma. Newton had correctly observed that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. What you do today will impact you in some way tomorrow and only those who choose to live wisely, and with this awareness of how nature works will gain in the end. So, in order to create good karma, should you start donating? Adopt a child? Give up your wealth? These are some thoughts that come to mind and we have seen how the rich love to give back. But, is charity enough or do you need to go beyond all the commonly known actions that people engage in to rinse off their karmic debts? Sure it will do you good when you offer financial help to those in need but don`t do it to free your soul of guilt. Leading a thoughtful life and by being considerate towards one and all, you will find peace sooner than you think. To think all your actions through may not seem feasible but with effort and patience, you will experience change from within and this will help you live a life that`s meaningful. Not all of us are strong enough to lead saintly lives but there are little things that can be done every day to create Good Karma and awaken the spirit that makes you truly human. Change does not happen overnight, it takes time but the sooner you begin this process, the sooner you will find release from the misery caused by negative Karma. Here are 5 suggestions that will guide you to reflect upon your actions and create good karma: Speak words of kindness to everyone you meet and know Never utter words that you know are going to hurt someone`s feelings. If what you are going to say will not help the person in any way, refrain from saying it. Choose your words carefully and avoid using filthy language or language that one uses to express contempt, anger, rage or other similar emotions. Smile for your family and friends! Spread cheer in their lives with your kind gestures and meaningful actions. Don`t hold yourself back from showing how you care. Let your ego step aside. You will lose nothing in the process. Never mock someone`s weaknesses If someone is not skilled, someone has poor writing or reading skills, makes spelling errors, dresses inappropriately, lacks manners - no matter what you think is lacking in another person, you will create nothing other than bad karma for yourself and increase your own suffering by belittling someone. Those who are really secure from within will not indulge in forming poor opinions of others based on what they consider is `right` or `wrong`. If someone is mentally ill, you must find it in yourself to be kinder towards this person rather than ridiculing the illness. Everyone is special in their own unique way and there is no right way to judge someone, so it`s best to focus on yourself and not on others. Help even when you will gain nothing in return There is no greater joy than the joy of giving selflessly. Very few have actually lead lives dedicated to selfless actions for the good of others. Helping old people cross the streets, giving up your seat in the bus for someone who may need it more than you, stopping to ask someone if he or she needs any help when you find someone stranded on the street or lost, engaging in conversations with those who seem lonely, complimenting those who seem insecure - it`s the little things you do daily that matter the most. Eventually, you will feel better about all the good that you do for everyone. Put yourself in someone else`s shoes While a selfish existence is the most convenient way to live, those who believe in the concept of Karma and how it works must find ways to overcome selfishness. Selfishness doesn`t mean you don`t make the most of your life and opportunities that you create for yourself or the advantages you get because of your destiny. Selfishness is when your desires encroach upon the happiness of others or when you don`t stop to think how your actions may be affecting another. It is when you force others to live as per what you think is best. Your selfless acts should bring you happiness and they shouldn`t cause you discomfort or dissatisfaction. It is the intent with which you act that makes all the difference. Increase your capacity for compassion and practice empathy. You may also read his personal letter of appeal that follows. Thank you. GurFateh Ji. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Personal Letter of Appeal from Devinder Singh Sat Sri Akal Ji, My name is Devinder J. Singh. I launched my handbag label, KC Malhan, twelve years ago. I recently entered an International Design Competition sponsored by In Style magazine. Out of 1600 applicants I am one of the 25 finalist still in the competition. I will be attending the final award ceremony in New York on June 18th 2014. I am one of the 5 finalist in the Timberland "green handbag" category. I would be thrilled to be the first Sikh to win this award. If our community likes my work I would love to have their support. The other companies are larger and I am working on a shoe string budget. I need your support - it is the only way to stay a contender in the fan poll. The KC Malhan company is named after my late grandparents, Krishna and Charan.I suffered from polio at the age of two. My parents tried every known treatment available in India, but to little avail. During those challenging times, I recall their unrelenting faith in Waheguru. In 1979, at the age of thirteen, I traveled alone to America to seek additional treatments for polio. I was isolated in school because of my dastar and deeply missed my home. The Ayatollah Khomeini was holding American hostages and many Americans confused Sikhs with followers of the Ayatollah. There was a very small Sikh community in South Florida at that time. In 1984 I traveled back to India to reunite with my family. However, the assassination of Mrs. Gandhi and the senseless killing of Sikhs changed something deep inside of me. I traveled back to America. And a few years later my parents and siblings migrated to the US. At nineteen, my sister and I opened a trendy clothing boutique in Winter Park, Florida. I started to dabble in designing womens clothing. My designs were featured along side many prominent designers of those times. After ten years of being in the Retail business, I wanted to pursue my passion for design. I attended Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) for Summer studies and thats when I knew that I wanted to be a designer. My father had started a very successful leather business in 1990. And with his encouragement I embarked on designing handbags. The twist was that they were made from everything but leather. I traveled to India several times a year. It took two years to a build our production team and KC Malhan was born. We produced handmade evening bags, special occasion bags and fun clutches. KC Malhan's handbags have been featured in O magazine, Lucky magazine, people magazine and Redbook. I met my wife Jessica, also a designer with a Masters degree from Northwestern University. We now have a wonderful nine year old son, Jassa. My journey in the fashion business has been bitter sweet. This market is extremely competitive and cut throat. I have remained true to my faith, art and work. I am very blessed to be able to pursue my passion and pray to Waheguru ji to keep me on the path he has chosen for me. I believe that my work is not mine to own, but rather just passes through me. I pray to get rid of my ego. I pray for humility. I pray to remain humble through this beautiful journey of Life. Sat Sri Akal Ji Devinder Singh Here are some additional links that might help you understand my work our website is www.kcmalhan.com I also have a video regarding my work and this project in particular - For more information please visit our website www.sikhshelpingsikhs.com, or email us via sewa@sikhshelpingsikhs.com
