  5. First-year students at Med School were receiving their first anatomy class with a real dead human body. They all gathered around the surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started the class by telling them, "In medicine, it is necessary to have 2 important qualities as a doctor. The first is that you not be disgusted by anything involving the human body." For an example, the Professor pulled back the sheet, stuck his finger in the butt of the corpse, withdrew it and stuck his finger in his mouth. "Go ahead and do the same thing,"! he told his students. The students freaked out, hesitated for several minutes, but eventually took turns sticking a finger in the butt of the dead body and sucking on it. When everyone had finished, the Professor looked at them and told them, "The second most important quality is observation. I stuck in my middle finger and sucked on my index finger. Now learn to pay attention." Doctors were unable to diagnose her ailment :-)
  6. Firstly, there is an old saying "Naukri ki te nakhra ki". If you are rigid then don't work in a supermarket which sells alcohol, tobacco, pork, beef etc An environment that goes against your beliefs. Problem with pseudo religious whether Muslims or Sikhs is that they migrate for money ie Lobh but pretend to be spiritual ie Santokhi. Secondly,English were always good managers unlike Americans who are Bully's. Even after being outnumbered they got & still get majority to serve them look at the exchange rate of Pound Sterling. Lastly, the above incident was HR managers fault, assigning wrong task to junior employee. The comments are from High class customers who don't give a damn whether you are white or brown, they just want to be served right !
  7. M&S apologizes after Muslim worker refused to sell alcohol LONDON British retailer Marks and Spencer apologized on Monday to customers angered after a Muslim checkout worker refused to sell champagne for religious reasons. Thousands of customers threatened to boycott M&S, Britains biggest clothing retailer that also sells food, after a till worker in a London store asked a customer to wait as she would not handle champagne and called for another staff member. Following a storm of protests on social media, M&S apologized for the confusion, saying it was not M&Ss policy to allow checkout staff to refuse to serve customers buying items like alcohol and pork which are forbidden in Islam. A spokeswoman said the companys policy for many years had been to try to accommodate staff of all religions by finding them roles where conflicts would not arise. On this occasion this persons preferences were not taken into account and she ended up on the tills, which was a mistake, the spokeswoman said. We would like to apologize for any resulting confusion and reassure our customers that this was an isolated incident. Despite the apology, angry customers vented on M&Ss Facebook page, some calling on people to boycott the retailer and questioning whether other religions would get such leeway. Will you allow staff with Christian belief to stop working Sundays, asked Richard Woodward. Do Hindu or Sikh staff complain they cant serve beef and have you given Jewish staff the right not to sell pig meat?? ....you wont get me shopping there any more and I hope other people feel likewise, said John Mcglade. RELIGIOUS DEMANDS The row followed as similar one involving British universities. Some were accused earlier this month of caving in to rising religious demands after issuing guidance approving separate seating for men and women at events if requested by an external religious speaker. The universities were forced to withdraw the guidance after being blasted by students and Prime Minister David Cameron whose government is considering how to better integrate Britains 2.7 million Muslims without restricting their right to freedom of religious expression. Different approaches are taken by Britains four major supermarket owners over whether staff should be excused from certain jobs due to their religion. Sainsburys said staff on tills or restocking would be asked to handle alcohol and meat although it worked with individuals to ensure we are inclusive and fair while Wal-Mart Store Incs Asda had one policy for all. Morrison said it respected staffs wishes not to handle certain products at any time of year while Tesco said it had no definitive policy but handled cases on merit. The protests came at a potentially difficult time for M&S which last weekend cut prices by 30% in order to draw in reluctant Christmas shoppers. Chief Executive Marc Bolland is under pressure to boost sales after nine straight quarters of declining underlying clothing sales, although the food business has traded well. 11. Religion Is Good For All Of Us, Even Those Who Don't Follow One In honor of Christmas and the holiday season, I thought I might write a little lighter column, with a religious focus to fit the festive mood. So, with that in mind, in a country divided over which macroeconomic policies work and who creates jobs, here are some facts about religion that we can all agree on. In an amazing number of ways, religious attendance is good for the economy. Interestingly, there is a large body of research on the health, economic, educational, and other benefits (or lack thereof) of religion. Most researchers have found that the myriad non-spiritual benefits of religion are related to regular religious attendance. It is less the strength of your faith than the dependability of your arrival at religious services and other events that matters. This suggests that the mechanism for these benefits may be as much or more the social network that a religious community provides than the actual practice of the religion in a theological sense. Or it may be that those with the most faith also attend services regularly. Also, all the results presented here are benefits found to derive from religious attendance or involvement in any religion, so there is nothing here to suggest that ones particular beliefs are the key to the results. It is having the beliefs, practicing them, and regularly joining with other like-minded adherents that produce the benefits reported here. With that said, what are the benefits? First, studies have shown that religious attendance once or more per week leads to an extra seven years of life expectancy. Other studies have shown other health benefits such as a stronger immune system and lower blood pressure. Further, religious involvement has been linked to less depression and less alcohol and drug use. Religious participation by kids has been shown to result in less juvenile delinquency, less drug use including less smoking, better school attendance, and a higher probability of graduating from high school. Graduating from high school has a large positive economic impact, so that is a big benefit to the economy. Less juvenile delinquency also provides big savings through the avoided costs of incarceration and rehabilitation. Similarly, adults who regularly attend religious services also commit fewer crimes. Again, this comes with huge savings as both crime and prisons are very expensive. They also end up on welfare and unemployed less often. More cost savings for those entitlement programs. People who are regular religious attendees give more money to charity than other people, which does much good in their communities. How much does all this add up to, in terms of economic gains? According to Rodney Stark, a professor of sociology, the American economy benefits to the tune of $2.6 trillion per year thanks to being a quite religious country. That is about one-sixth of our total economic output. These gains, found in his recent book, Americas Blessings, derive from the extra human capital, lower unemployment among the religious, fewer crimes being committed, and other benefits listed above. Some of the benefits are direct gains that show up in economic statistics. Others are monies saved (for example, by not imprisoning as many people), so they do not actually contribute to GDP or other visible statistics, but they save society money. Religious people are keeping our tax rates and insurance premiums lower than they would be otherwise. On top of all these economic benefits, one that cannot really be quantified is that people who are religiously involved are also happier. I cannot put a dollar figure on that one, but it is certainly worth something. I do not know if this column is going to any of my readers to become regular attendees at a religious institution of their choice. Even if nobody starts going to religious services because of this column, perhaps, as we are counting our blessings in this holiday season, we can be thankful for all the economic benefits religion is bringing us on top of the spiritual rewards that are its main purpose. If anyone does decide that religion sounds like a pretty good deal and makes regular religious attendance part of his or her New Years resolution, that would be a wonderful blessing. 15. PRISONER RELEASE ISSUE HEADING FOR RESOLUTION Friday, 20 December 2013 | Monika Malik | Chandigarh The issue of the release of six Sikh prisoners languishing in jails after completing their sentence is heading for a resolution. Nearly 18 years after Punjabs then Chief Minister Beant Singh was assassinated, his family on Thursday has virtually granted amnesty to at least three of his assassins, paving way for an early resolution to the issue of their release. At present, Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa is sitting on a fast-unto-death for the release of alleged assassins Gurmeet Singh, Shamsher Singh, and Lakhwinder Singh. His fast has already entered 36th day. Concerned, the three representatives from the Bandi Singh Riahi Morcha met Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday for the release of the trio, along with three other detainees following the completion of their sentence. Badal had categorically told that any move towards resolution would essentially depend on the start taken by the Beant Singh family. Beant Singhs grandson Gurkirat Singh Kotli, also a Congress MLA, when contacted by The Pioneer, categorically said that the family had no objection over the release of the trio provided their conduct has been above board during the years of their detention. No one would have any objection if they (convicts) want to live their life as common citizen, and assure for not getting involving into any activity that would harm the states hard-earned peace and harmony, said Kotli. Morchas member, and senior advocate Amar Singh Chahal stated that though the Chief Minister expressed helplessness for getting releases the Sikh prisoners in jails outside Punjab, had maintained that things would be easy to pursue in case Beant Singhs family take initiative. A DSGMC delegation also took up the matter with chief Minister Badal on Thursday apprising him over the seriousness of the issue. We told the chief Minister about the seriousness of the issue, and if not solved early, how this would affect the States communal harmony and peaceful atmosphere, SADs Delhi unit leader and member of DSGMC delegation, Avtar Singh Hit said. Hopeful of resolution of the issue by Friday, Hit said that the CM was holding meetings ate his residence in Badal village, and would find out the resolution. Till late evening, the meeting was in progress. Gurbaksh Singh has been fasting since November 14 seeking the release of six Sikhs, initially five, detained in prisons including three lodged in Chandigarhs Burail Jail for their involvement in Beant Singhs assassination, Lal Singh currently in Nabhas Maximum Security Jail, Wariam Singh currently now in Uttar Pradeshs Bans Bareilly Jail, and Gurdeep Singh Khaira currently in Karnatakas Gulbarga Jail. Gurbaksh Singhs hunger strike entered 36th day on Thursday. Doctors say that his condition has deteriorated to dangerous levels, and the chances of his survival have become very grim if he continues his fast more three-four days. 18. SGPC INTRODUCES SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR DEVOTEES AT GOLDEN TEMPLE Devotees visiting the Golden Temple are braving the bone chilling cold wave prevailing in the city. However, to bring respite to pilgrims, the Golden Temple authorities have undertaken various initiatives for the convenience of pilgrims. Team visited the shrine to unfold the special initiatives made at the Golden Temple for the convenience of devotees. These measures will remain in action till the winter bids goodbye. Now, pilgrims need not worry about washing their feet in cold water, a mandatory practice before entering the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple. The temple authorities have made arrangements of lukewarm water at the shrine's entrance. Not only this, special carpets have been rolled out across the complex. The carpets have not only been spread in the 'Parikrama' area, but also the inner corridors where a majority of pilgrims listen to the hymns. Carpets have also been rolled out till the 'Akal Takht' and langar hall (community kitchen). Carpets also adorn the second floor of the Central Sikh Museum (Ajaib Ghar) to provide comfort to pilgrims. "It is a significant effort on the part of the temple authorities to roll out carpets in the winter. Walking barefoot has become difficult these days," said Manpreet Dhillon, an NRI from Calgary, Canada, visiting the shrine. Inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple, the four doors - usually kept open as per tradition - have been covered with thick white curtains to prevent the flow of cold air. The windows on the first floor of the shrine are kept shut during the dawn and dusk hours. Blowers have also been placed inside the temple to keep the temperature warm. Blowers have also been kept at the 'Akal Takht.' At the langar hall, the shrine authorities keep the doors and windows closed. "When the devotees are seated and the hall is full to the brim, the doors and windows are closed. This keeps the hall warm," said Harpreet Singh, manager, community kitchen. Special arrangements have also been at the 'Jal Sewa' (drinking water service), in the temple. 19. Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh It could be due to your sitting posture or AASAN. Try changing position, let's say every 10-15 minutes. Sitting cross legged for long period can restrict blood flow and cause pain in legs & subsequently in other body parts. Pain could also be due to indigestion or being over weight. Try Ginger tea Or Ginger-ale Squash with water, see the difference. Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh
  20. Don't know the real motive behind such protest & threat. Maybe they are trying to please their sponsors; get media attention, community support & funding. As for getting coverage, it could be "Paid News". They don't seem to be sincere.
