  3. **Important post** Sikh children in Wyndham Primary School, Newcastle Upon Tyne are being told to remove their Kara at school. This is not right or legal. Despite meetings and letters the school sees this as a Uniform issue. To help the Sewadars resolve this it would be VERY useful if you quickly contacted Director of Children's Services, John Collings (01912114997 john.collings@newcastle.gov.uk) AND/or Chair of Governors, Cllr Ged Bell (01912300399 ged.bell@newcastle.gov.uk) AND/or Head Teacher Mrs B. Redhead (01912853895 admin@wyndham.newcastle.sch.uk) and calmly explained that the 5's are not Uniform or Jewellery. Contact using both phone AND email will help. Both Children and Adults can do this, on behalf of others too - whether in the UK or not. Recontacting asking for updates is acceptable. This can be done at any time - even NOW! Please forward this to others. Source - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sikhi-Events/570050406339988?hc_location=timeline
  4. Young Sikh Healthy Cookery Chef 2014 My VISION in DESI WELLNESS KITCHEN cookery show was to promote healthy cooking for 21st century which was launched to bring awareness and inspiration to worldwide Sikh Channel viewers. 1) In this cookery shows I am promoting 40% RAW FOOD DIET and reducing bad carbs. 2) In the cookery shows I am promoting Live Food and reducing carsogenic foods which create abnormal proteins in our bodies leading on to cancers and how overcooked food malnutritions us and thereby straves the organs from vital vitamins and minerals to generate good healthy cells which help repair and keep our organs in prime condition. 3) The right choice of cooking oils and steering away from bad oils which when heated above 100 degrees heat to release carbon fumes which are seriously dangerous for our heart arteries. 4) Awareness of the whole mind concept of cooking with correct state of mind body and spirt.. T ) Awareness that the biggest SPICE or MASALA is cooking with PASSION..and how this positive energy can make a simple dhal or vegetable dish be most potent and nutritious for our body rather than cooking with stress, anger or aggression which creates negative energy in food presented and would not be nutritionally beneficial to person who eats it. The Cookery shows has been a great inspiration to young viewers across globe who are regular dedicated viewers of healthy cookery shows every week. Invertedly the shows ( which was my dream to get young sikh girls and boys to get back into kitchen to do creative cooking..great for satisfaction for mind and soul) instead of relying on fast foods which are leading to bad choices affecting their physical wellbeing as those foods are cooked with incorrect oils..cooked on high heat which actually kills substantial amount of vitamins in the food given to us from ma dharti. It is these choices of foods that for over 2 decades I have tried to reach my viewers across globe in various TV channels where I have tried to relay above message. MY VISION OF LAUNCHING THE YOUNG SIKH CHEF of 2014″ YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT and YOUR HEALTH IS YOUR WEALTH I launched the competition to inspire our young Sikhs to learn to cook and make right choice of foods from prime age before they go into higher University education..where they start depending on fast foods as cooking was not encouraged from home. And educating our young generation about all key points mentioned above. ALSO Finally my Vision to educate our young girls into making correct choice of foods, good cooking eating right foods at right time of day. I feel if the our young generation get this awareness they will project this message to their childrenOUR FUTURE..of a Healthy society which is our Wealth. Which is FINALLY also my dream to educate, bring awareness and inspire our generation not to become victims help reduce blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, obesity, cancers the most critical diseases that our Sikhs are inflicted by thereby reducing the quality of life. 6. Rise in Punjabi girls getting pushed into flesh trade in UK I P Singh,TNN | Dec 1, 2013, 03.20 AM IST JALANDHAR: The alarming rise in number of girls from Punjab being forced into flesh trade in UK has compelled prominent Sikhs in that country and Sikh Sewak Society International to submit a memorandum to Punjab police, urging it to check the disturbing trend and also create awareness among the community about the grim reality. UK police also claimed to have identified more than 600 hapless girls from Punjab, trapped in prostitution racket in recent times. The modus operandi is very simple for the girls' families to fall into the trap. Illegal travel agents, mushrooming across the state, lure the girls to visit UK on student visas to get enrolled in education institutes. These girls, coming mostly from humble backgrounds, are also given false promises of jobs and better lifestyle once they visit UK. After they reach UK, they become vulnerable and helpless to sexual exploitation and are later forced into prostitution. "The travel agents make false claims about the educational institutes in UK. They also promise honourable jobs. The harsh reality is, however, horrific. The girls never get a job, and, in desperate situation, are pushed into the vicious trap of flesh trade by vested interests," Rajinder Singh Purewal, chairman of Sikh Sewak Society International, said in its memorandum to commissioner of police, Jalandhar. Purewal, a former executive member of Justice of Peace in UK, has been helping such girls for long by providing them shelter and also find suitable jobs. "Only those parents, who can support them financially, should send their wards to UK for education," he said. The UK home department officials concerned have held a number of meetings with community leaders on the issue and have announced financial assistance of £60,000 for spreading awareness. The Sikh Council said that the grant would also be provided for assistance to destitute, trafficked and vulnerable people from Punjab, if they wish to return home. 8. The Tribune More lodging facility near Golden Temple on cards; SGPC constructing three sarais having around 500 rooms Perneet Singh, Tribune News Service Amritsar, November 29. Come New Year and the pilgrims visiting the holy city to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple will have more and better lodging facilities as the SGPC will be adding around 500 rooms in the form of three sarais (inns) to facilitate a comfortable stay of the devotees. Among these inns, the first is coming up on the premises of Gurdwara Saragarhi, which is at a walking distance from the Golden Temple. Coming up at a cost of Rs 25 crore, the Sargarhi Niwas will have 238 rooms, besides halls. Its construction work is nearing completion and it is likely to be thrown open to the pilgrims in March next year. The 10-storey building will have a capacity to accommodate 2,000 pilgrims. The inn would be equipped with amenities like basement parking, terrace garden, solar water heating system, VRV air-conditioning and rain water harvesting. It will have ultra-modern power supply system, which will save 40 per cent electricity. The SGPC also plans to come up with another inn on the same road after shifting Guru Nanak Girls Senior Secondary School to a different location. The work on the new four-storey school building has also entered its last phase and it is likely to be shifted soon. The design of the new inn over 1,000 sq yds has been prepared. The SGPC is also planning to construct another inn at Baba Sahib Chowk. At present, the SGPC has eight sarais (inns) in the holy city. These are Shri Guru Ram Das Niwas, Shri Guru Nanak Niwas, Shri Guru Arjan Dev Niwas, Shri Guru Hargobind Niwas, Mata Ganga Ji Niwas, Baba Deep Singh Ji Niwas, Mata Bhag Kaur Ji Niwas and NRI Niwas. These inns collectively have 800 rooms. But, not many pilgrims prefer to stay in Baba Deep Singh Ji Niwas and Mata Bhag Kaur Ji Niwas as these are a little far from the Golden Temple. Thousands of pilgrims visit the holy shrine daily and the number goes up substantially during winter and summer vacations. The problem of inadequate accommodation is all the more visible during special occasions like Diwali and Gurpurbs, as the devotees can be seen lying either in the waiting area of the inns or the parikarma of the Golden Temple. 13. Lawyer to file case for Pak Hindus, Sikhs living in India Yudhvir Rana, TNN Nov 26, 2013, 05.23AM IST AMRITSAR: Perturbed over the plight of Pakistani Hindus and Sikhs in Punjab, lawyer and human rights activist Ajay Virmani will file a case in the Punjab and Haryana high court, seeking to decide their status within a fixed time frame. "Thousands of Pakistani nationals who have arrived in India and living in various cities of Punjab over a period of several years have no identity and are living in pathetic conditions and their human rights are being violated," said Virmani on Monday. He claimed that he was preparing a case and gathering relevant information to file the petition in the court within a fortnight. "First I will file a petition for Hindus and Sikh Pakistani nationals living in Punjab and then for all those living across the nation," he said. In Amritsar, over 300 Hindus and Sikhs from Pakistan are living with the hope that they would be given Indian citizenship. Most of these Pakistani nationals are doing their own businesses. Due to the fear of repercussion on their family members in Pakistan, they are also reluctant to admit before media about atrocities committed on them in Pakistan, he said. Virmani said the first and foremost requirement for giving them Indian citizenship was their antecedents. "Government wants to ensure that they had left Pakistan due to violation of their human rights or they had some imminent threat to their lives besides they are not a threat to India," he said. A Pak national, Sharan Singh, who has been living in Amritsar for the past 10 years, said, "We have done everything, but nothing has happened so far." He said they want just Indian citizenship nothing else. Source - http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2013-11-26/india/44485964_1_pakistani-hindus-pak-hindus-indian-citizenship

    Chaur Sahib

First Prakash Purab of Shri Adi Granth Sahib Ji was on 1st September, 1604. Guru Arjan Dev Ji installed Adi Granth at Harmandir Sahib Ji and Baba Buddha Ji was the First Granthi ji. Since then Saadh Sangat has survived without Insect killing machines so why can't we ? If there was any need then Guru Sahibaan's or their Sevaks would have adopted Makhi Maar tool like shown in Attached Image in addition or instead of Chaur Sahib.
  17. According to Gurbani, what is Jeeva and and what is not Jeeva? As indicated in the Gurbani, there are four sources of creation or life: Andaj (ਅੰਡਜ: the egg-born), Jeraj (ਜੇਰਜ: foetus-born or born from the womb), Setaj (ਸੇਤਜ: the sweat-born), and Outabhuj (ਉਤਭੁਜ: the earth-born). The Gurbani call all these four Jantaa (“ਜੰਤਾ”), that is, beings or Jeeva. In other words, as indicated in the following verses, according to the Gurbani, the Lord’s “Joti” (Light…) dwells in all. ਅੰਡਜ ਜੇਰਜ ਸੇਤਜ ਉਤਭੁਜ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥: Andaj jeraj setaj outbhuj ghati ghati joti samaanee: (The Lord’s) Light fills all those born of eggs, born from the womb, born of sweat and born of the earth, each and every heart. (sggs 1109). ਅੰਡਜ ਜੇਰਜ ਉਤਭੁਜ ਸੇਤਜ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਜੰਤਾ ॥: Andaj jeraj outbhuj setaj tere keete jantaa: (O Lord) The Jeeva born of eggs, born of the womb, born of the earth and born of sweat, all are created by You (sggs 596). The Gurbani further asserts that each and every grain is a Jeeva as well. For example, if one sows a grain (seed), it will grow into a plant or a tree (ਉਤਭੁਜ-born from the earth). ਜੇਤੇ ਦਾਣੇ ਅੰਨ ਕੇ ਜੀਆ ਬਾਝੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥: Jete daane ann ke jeeaa baajh n koi: As many as the grains of food, none is without Jeeva (i.e, life etc.). (sggs 472). Thus, according to the Gurbani, all sources of creation on this earth are in fact Jeeva (beings, life…). The implication is that if all sources of creation on this earth in fact are Jeeva (beings, life…), then, regardless of what we eat in this world throughout our lives, we will just be eating another Jeeva (beings, life…). That is, Jeeva eats Jeeva. ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਆਹਾਰੁ ਜੀਅ ਖਾਣਾ ਏਹੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥: Jeeaa kaa aahaarr jeea khaanaa ehu karei: Jeeva are the food (diet) of Jeeva, this is what they eat (dine, live on…). (sggs 955). 19. Film Shooting to be banned inside Golden Temple by SANJEEV SINGH on NOVEMBER 23, 2013 In a meeting held yesterday, Singh sahibs have taken important decisions on few issues. Film shooting will be entirely banned inside Golden Temple premises. However, Religious documentaries can be allowed, but will require a prior written permission from SGPC. Another important decision has been taken regarding some Gurudwara management committees allowing chairs or benches to be installed for the elderly or differently abled inside Gurudwara premises.. Terming this practice as disrespect of Guru Granth Sahib, Jathedar Gurbachan Singh said, Gurudwara committees can install chairs benches outside the Gurudwara hall and not inside the hall where Guru Granth Sahib is installed. In another decision, Gurudwara management committees cannot have Patit sikhs (those who cut hair) as member of the management. Only Amritdhari and Sabat Soorat Sikhs can be members of Gurudwara management. Issuing fresh guidelines regarding Nagar Keertan, Jathedar Akal Takhat Sahib, Singh Sahib Giani Gurbachan Singh said that it has come to notice that in some Nagar keertans, the Palki of Guru Granth Sahib is left behind and whole Sangat goes ahead. Terming it as disrespect, he said, Only Panj piyare, Panj Nishanchi and Gatka party should move in front of Guru Granth Sahib. Rest of the Sangat should be behind Guru Granth Sahib and they should move singing Gurbani all the way. In ancient India, when the king or other supreme authority held a public audience, a horsetail whisk ('chaur') was always waved over/around him; it was done to show respect. This practice continues to day when Sikhs hold Gurdwara: they wave the chaur over the Siri Guru Granth Sahib jeeo to show respect. 2) It is done to keep flies or insects away without any harm. Nowdays jokers have installed Insect killing machines even inside Sri Harmandar Sahib, Amritsar which is against Gurmat. Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh
