  1. A question for supporters of current Nanakshahi (Bikrami with new name) Calender. Where does the "cut off line" fall for fixing dates to Bikrami calendar and which dates fall according to Modern Calender. I.E. JUNE 1984, should it now stick to 6th june 1984 or should it change according to the Bikrami date i.e what ever 6th june 1984 was according to Bikrami Calendar.

Is it only history related to Guru Sahibs or upon the Jyoti Jot of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, this is the next question.

WHICH DATES FOR BIKRAMI CALENDAR AND WHICH CAN BE FIXED TO MODERN CALENDER.

  2. Sikh Fed don't accept Sant Ji as Shaheed thats one of the underlying issues, where as the rest of the Panth does

The above statement is not correct.

The official Federation line on whether to accept Sant Ji as a Shaheed was that it was not for the Federation as an organisation to declare him a Shaheed, but for the Taksal to make this declaration. The Taksal for many years did not make this declaration and the Federation stood by it. When the head of the Taksal made the declaration that Sant Ji was Shaheed we accepted it and it has been the Federation's official line that he has been declared a Shaheed. Some Sikhs still do not accept that Sant Ji is a Shaheed and that is their choice as individuals and we respect they have different views.

LOL, That's just sad. My reply was deleted. So i'll post it again.

    In June 2010, ..... *deleted*

Mod Note: Veerje, Contact them by email or use Forum PM. Stay on Topic.

  3. When amendments were first announced that's what i thought. That Holla Mohalla, Guru Nanak Dev Ji Parkash Utsav and Bandi Chor Divas would become fixed to one date every year just like all the other dates.

But the opposite happened. It's interesting to note that many panthic organisations including SYP, SADA PP, DKI, AGPC ETC have refused to accept the changes as they say that haven't been consulted. That's exactly the same as what Damdami Taksal said when the inital Calender was brought forward. We need to avoid any change of a Shia/Sunni type split in the panth and the Sri Dasam Granth issue and Nanakshahi Calender are to two greatest reasons for why this could happen. Both sides need to be responsible.

Now Guru Purab's will be celebrated according to Pooranmashi. (full moon) But whose not supporting the changes claim to continue to hold events according to fixed dates that nanakshahi calender first stated.

The problem doesn't exist in the issues, but how we deal with them. Everyone thinks they are King and they don't consider it relevant to consult fellow Sikhs!

  4. 1. Khalsa Aid receives much of its parchar material, i.e. Text books, leaflets and handout for classes they hold from the Missionary college in Ludhiana.

The basic idea is - Sikh children from (financially) poor families attend sikhi classes organised by Khalsa Aid and in return the whole family must keep away from drugs and alcohol. So it encourages a gurmat lifestyle and bring the youth into sikhi and the families get assistance with education/marriage for their children etc.

    2. Sikh Missionary College Ludhiana provides parchar resources for these classes.

Some people have been saying that Khalsa Aid should not work with the College due to other issues (Sri Dasam Granth) which i wouldn't go into. But if Khalsa Aid stops working with Missionary then will Pro Dasam Granth Sangat offer a permanent replacement of funds and material. This is not a issue to compare or see who is better, but if Sikh Missionary Ludhiana is providing assistance to a charity, should they be stopped because other people don't agree with some other issues?

These children just want basic school, a dad that doesn't bet and abuse them, a mum that can cook and care for them, to feel like someone cares and that they have a sense of value and see a point to live. To stay away from alcohol and drugs, to be decent people and greatest of all to follow Sikhi.

They are too innocent to understand the complexities of Sri Dasam Granth. I know its a hot topic at the moment and i hold my views very closely. But surely it doesn't make sense to stop a organisation from doing seva if you (not you personally) don't agree with some different issues.

    3. In regards to BSSF, we've been bashed and pushed since day one! We will continue to do our small piece no matter what anybody says or does. Of course we will listen and take on board anything that sangat feels we should/shouldn't be doing. But there is a way to say that, we get suggestions all the time but you stated "real seva" and "stay panthic".

I'd assume that you have picked up on BSSF conducting some kind of "fake seva" and we're were not "panthic" at some stage.

It would be interesting to know when you felt this was. I don't take offence, but if you could kindly explain what you don't understand or see reason with then i can definitely explain why we took a certain step or clear any misunderstanding.

AND PLEASE DO ATTEND THE CHARITY KIRTAN

  5. Bhai Sandeep Singh Canadian of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar Panch Pardhani (Gen Secretary of Youth Wing) was arrested by Punjab Police for protesting against another Fake "baba" known as Baba Pritpal Singh. He was detained for some time after which he was released.

This still shows that Sikhs are not seen as equal citizens of the Indian State as they dont even have the basic right to peacefully protest against the actions of a person who is taking advantage of innocent people including forcibly occupying people's land and selling land in a style a kin to a Mafia.

Photo's of Bhai Sandeep Singh are given below.

  6. Well that is good. If you carry on doing real Sewa like this and remain PANTHIC and true to PURAATAN traditions and support Sants and parcharaks, then you will slowly start to get more and more respect as an organisation.

Puraatan ji, you may find it interesting to note by Bhai Ravinder Singh Ji of Khalsa Aid has be told to stop working with Sikh Missionary Ludhiana because "you should only work with sants and babas."

The children that are unable to attend school due to poverty, parents hooked to drugs or taken astray by dehdarhi Gurus Ashutosh as being helped with basic needs by Khalsa Aid with the support of Sikh Missionary Ludhiana who provide various materials for Sikhi education but Khalsa Aid is pestered to stop working with the Missionary College.

Seva is done becuase there is a need and should be niskam,(Selfless) without motive and not please a Sant or Baba.

What "Fake" Seva has BSSF ever undertook.

  8. Sant Jarnail singh is shaheed!!!!

in the picture above, you can see the wife and younger son of sant jarnail singh with baba harnam singh.

Im not the biggest fan of baba Harnam singh and think he could be more vocal but why is sant jarnail singh's family in the picture?

Are they backing a fakestar or are they being forced?

    Why are they there?

I repeat, Sant Jarnail Singh is shaheed.

  9. Again i feel that sikhs will do nothing until the film comes out.

In a wired way, i think that, the film coming out could be a good thing for sikhs to see who they are still being viewed and they need to be practical and not just assume everything will be okay with time.

If the film shows sikhs in a extremely negative light, then the British Sikh Student Federation will take action against the films producers and promotors for defamtion of the sikh people and nation and further seek for its banning in atleast the UK.

  10. Bhai Inderjit Singhs Speech Was full of bir rass, I noticed some crying and others with tears in their eyes

    waheguru

Just to confirm to the Sangat that Bhai Sahib Inderjit Singh Ji was making a representation of what the victims and children of 1984 would say, given the opportunity. Some people thought Bhai Sahib was talking about his direct family.

We are all one family and need to learn to live and die as one family, until then we shall continue to be unheard.

A clenched fist does more damage than 5 single fingers.

Yes, that would speech was reaaly good, good enough to fool most that he was talking about himself.

Good to see youth speaker given a chance to speak on stage. Should be more for future events.

  11. No one is asking for you to class bssf as a jatha. - Neither does your opinion determine it.

I dont want to use this medium as a means to say what bssf does. Sangat will see that for themselves.

Sikh in Punjab spoke so openly about what the problem is with the panth at this moment in time and how we have to deal with it. No matter what anyone says, Punjab will always have Leaders to direct the panth in the direction that we need to go.

Bitter political rivals and people of differring views on maryada's came together and forgot about these differences for the sack of the panth.

Events in Punjab are now being done on a mutual / collection basis with individual organisation names not being displayed. This is a great example that we could use in the UK.

  12. How sad, jatha bashing already?

Billy isn't it? - Find a sikh name first !!!!

Shaheed Bhai Kanwaljit Singh Sunam, Shaheed Bhai Harmandir Singh Dabwali and Shaheed Bhai Balkar Singh Bombay weren;t even mentioned.

The dharam yudh morcha started by Bhai Daljeet Singh Bittu and Sant Baljit Singh Daduwal was totally ignored.

    www.sikhsiyasat.com

These are the current issues that the panth must understand, and if we ignore them then how can we move forward?

As for BSSF, we didnt attend for the same reasons as you my friend, and guru sahib is watch if we were after any self promo.

  13. personally didn't go but respect to those who went, just a shame there was no coverage in the press, i agree perhaps it is time to look at the bigger picture, i take the same old politcians were there saying the same old things ? perhaps the future is to show the people in the UK that India has no real democracy and these are all the people who want to have their own soverign state !!!

I saw a video on youtube with sikhs raising khalistan slogans in new zealand. That was quite nice to see.

We need a co-ordination team to organise sangat and alert us before such events take place so we can be ready to attend in advance.

  14. I presonally feel that the rally could have been more forthright on the freedom angle but we always tend to sigh away from independence and just talk about 84 itself. It left a bitter sweet taste in my mouth!!!!!

What was actually said about how one can help attain khalistan? - not much in my note.

Reading gurbani is the most powerful source for our panth, but we have to also be active in wordly life.

If reading bani was the do all and end all, then why not cancel the future rallies and conventions and do simran in our homes instead?

    Possible solutions -

Involve other communties, espically Khasmiri's, assames, naga's, bodo's and tamils.

People from the Nepalese and Pakistani communties would also support if they were given the right information.

25,000 ish out of 750,000 sikhs were at the rally yesterday.

By inviting others, we increase our potential number into the millions and the attendance at future rallies will be above 100,000 for sure.

But for this, it must be a secular events and not just for sikhs and khalistan.

Sangat ji, what do you think?

  15. The issue is quite simple.

Seet up a permenant complaint panel of some sort ~(espically for parchar and preachers) and analyse each complaint on its merits against a policy of the channel.

I respect that this will carry financial implications, but if this is proposed to the sangat then this can be achieved.

  16. SSF comes to shopkeepers’ rescue

    Tribune News Service

    Ludhiana, May 27

The Sikh Students Federation today helped the shopkeepers of the old city areas to open their shops and shoo away protesters, who tried to force market closure in the morning.

The SSF activists, led by outfit's president Gurdeep Singh, armed with naked swords marched on the road in the market and asked the shopkeepers to open their outlets fearlessly.

They scared away a number of agitators, who came to Chaura Bazar, Books Market and Meena Bazar and forced shopkeepers to down their shutters. The activists took out a peace march to instill confidence in the shopkeepers.

Earlier, the shopkeepers had closed their shops after getting scared. But later they all opened their establishments. ‘‘We were scared to see many establishments worth crores reducing to ashes,’’ said a shopkeeper.

‘‘People were only buying essential commodities. They were not buying anything else,’’ he said. SSP activists said though their act was termed illegal by some, they had not indulged in any such activity. They were trying to restore peace, he said.

‘‘What took place in Vienna was unfortunate and we have full sympathy with the followers. We have already suffered huge losses as our closed shops have been damaged by the angry mob. And there has been no work for the past two days. Finally, the curfew was relaxed in our area today, but some youths tried create ruckus again. So we decided to teach them lesson."
