  1. Even before the Guru came, many rajas in India would wear gemstones on their rings. The rings were fashioned in such a way that stone was in contact with the skin and in this way, sunlight would enter through the stone and be absorbed into the body. Different stones allowed the absorption of different wavelengths of light.

The best jewel of all is Naam. This jewel is purer than any diamond or ruby. It is more valuable than the Koh-i-noor when it was whole. Even if the entire earth was made out of pure diamond, Naam is worth more still. Unfortunately, like other gems, there are those who see it for stone and fail to appreciate it's True Value.

    that's so lovely!

  2. my problem is that i do my nitnem, but half the time i'm not actually concentrating on what i'm saying! for example i'll start japji sahib, then in the middle bit then my mind wanders and then i realise it's wandering and start focusing on the last bit again.....but there's all that middle bit where i was saying the words, but not actually knowing what i was saying.

any tips for concentrating better? i tried doing it with the english translation too that worked for about a week, but now i'm just as bad again :blush21:

    any help anyone?

  3. hey, the final is on, does anyone know where i can listen to it live on the net...unfortunately i don't have setanta sports!

the closest thing i have is the text commentary on cricinfo

    thanks in advance!

  4. i've only ever gotten up at amritvela once, and when i was doing the ardas, i could feel someone poking me in my back repeatedly...even though i was alone in the room!

i didn't look round, and to be totally honest i have been a bit scared to do it since :BL:

so now i just wake up a bit earlier than i would for work, so around 5.45ish which i know is really late!

  5. "you mean the original 250ml flask? if you topped up with 15ml more nitric acid, to replace what you took out? yeah that would decrease the concentration.... 15/235 = 0.0638"

No i was askin the 5 ml and 10ml taken out from the 250 solution, and put in to 25ml volumetic flask and topped up with nitric aicd, would they have a lower concn then the 250ml or will it be the same???

by the way thanks for your help :TH:

    yeah they will be less, your diluting them....the answer is above;

    5ml in 25 = (5.945 x 10-4) / 5

    10ml in 25 = (5.945 x 10-4) / 2.5

    hope that helps

  6. I used moles=mass/Mr =1.486x10^-4 moles

    c=nv/1000 = (1.486x10^-4 x 250)/1000 = 3.72x10^-5 M (37uM)

If you take 5mls or 10mls of this solution now, it should remain at the same concentration, as you have not diluted it nor concentrated it. The number of moles in that solution will have changed though.

    your second equation is wrong c = n/v, do it should be c = (n/v)/1000 so c= 5.945 x 10-4

    5ml in 25 = (5.945 x 10-4) / 5

    10ml in 25 = (5.945 x 10-4) / 2.5

i got asked a similar qu. to this in my interview, when i first got my job, they didn't correct me...so i'm assuming that's right lol!

"Yh thanks i get that, one more question, if you take out 5ml or 10 ml then top it up with more nitric aicd in a 25 ml volumetric flask, wouldnt the concentration decrease?????"

you mean the original 250ml flask? if you topped up with 15ml more nitric acid, to replace what you took out? yeah that would decrease the concentration.... 15/235 = 0.0638

    so 0.0638 x (5.945 x 10-4) gives your new concentration.

  7. passenger co ordinator at the airport!but i had an office job b4 and got bored of that. what does every1 else do?anyone actually enjoy their job?

yeah i love my job, i work as a laboratory technician in a food science testing laboratory, we do normal food testing, and some legal cases. I love beinng in the laboratory, i love they way thy trust me enough to let me use machines worth half a million pounds in my second week. and i love the people i work with!

downsides....the pay is terrible!, and i have to travel 1.5 hours to get there and 1.5 hours to get back!

  8. Its just sad that no one in the bus did anything about it :glare: sikhs in uk really need to do something about this issue.

yeah, but how many stories have we had recently where people have stepped in to help someone else out, and ended up being murdered! Plus a group of 18-year old are guna look scary to a coupla school children!

were living in kaljug! only love for waheguru can save us

  9. My only concern was with the fighting that occurred last year, what will be done to prevent such a spectacle occuring again?

also, what sikhi parchaar is going to be done?

    vjkk vjkf

I know, last year was BAD!

I was on the nagar kirtan last year, and when we go to hansworth park, a load of muslim girls joined the nagar kirtan, didn't have their head covered, and were there just to check out the guys....when the ardas was going on, one was saying, hurry up i wanna go have a <admin-profanity filter activated>! ridiculous!

I noticed there was a lot of sevadar around at the start of the nagar kirtan and on the route, but they all seemed to disappear as soon as we approached the park.

But desptite all that, it was a totally amazing experience going on it! what time will the nagar kirtan be leaving from Smethwick Gurdwara this year?

sorry the <admin-profanity filter activated>! was the slang word for cigarette

    nothing dodgy lol.

  10. i started cutting myself to relieve the pain.

im really really glad to hear tht youve stopped. i knw its hard, everytime a problem comes up n makes u feel hurt u'll prob wanna do it again. but please just find an alternative, whether its bani, ardaas or finding someone to talk to. its a destructive cycle, u feel like ur getting rid of ur pain but after tht rush its still there. just dont start doing it again bhaji, thats my benti.

i also miss my little sis who i have not spoken to in years. we live 2getha but theres nothing there.

rebuild ur relationship with her, she has gone through a similar situation to u and u never knw, she might be able to understand/relate to ur perspective a lot better than u think.

im not good with relationship advice, but i hope u manage to move on from this

if u ever need to let off some steam, we're all here to listen :)

    take care of urself

  11. Hello, A friend sent this mail that I want to share with you.

Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane

Clayson asked her "How could God let something like this happen?"

(regarding the attacks on Sept. 11).

Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She

said "I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but

for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get

out of our government and to get out of our lives.

And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out.

How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if

we demand He leave us alone?"

In light of recent events...terrorists attack, school shootings,

etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was

murdered, her body found recently) complained she didn't want

prayer in our schools, and we said OK.

Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school .... the

Bible says thou shall not kill, thou shall not steal, and love your

neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when

they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped

and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide).

We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK.

Then someone said teachers and principals better not discipline our

children when they misbehave. The school administrators said no

faculty member in this school better touch a student when they

misbehave because we don't want any bad publicity, and we surely

    don't want to be

sued (there's a big difference between

disciplining, touching, beating, smacking, humiliating, kicking, etc.). And we said OK.

Then someone said, let's let our daughters have abortions if they

want, and they won't even have to tell their parents. And we said OK.

Then some wise school board member said, since boys will be boys

and they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all the

condoms they want so they can have all the fun they desire, and we

won't have to tell their parents they got them at school. And we said OK.

Then some of our top elected officials said it doesn't matter what

we do in private as long as we do our jobs. Agreeing with them, we

said it doesn't matter to me what anyone, including the President,

does in private as long as I have a job and the economy is good.

Then someone said let's print magazines with pictures of nude women

    and call it wholesome,

down-to-earth appreciation for the beauty of

the female body. And we said OK.

And then someone else took that appreciation a step further and

published pictures of nude children and then further again by

making them available on the Internet. And we said OK, they're

    entitled to free speech.

Then the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and

movies that promote profanity, violence, and illicit sex. Let's

record music that encourages rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and

satanic themes. And we said it's just entertainment, it has no

adverse effect, nobody takes it seriously anyway, so go right ahead.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why

they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to

kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure

    it out.

I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why

the world's going to destruction hell. Funny how we believe what

the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.

Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like

wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord,

    people think twice about sharing.

Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely

through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

  12. I have to agree with the above, it all depends on what you are studying. If you are into IT then masters degree is useless in areas such as software development where experience is sought after. Degree is good enough to get your foot in the door.

Let us know what your subject is.

Im hoping to do a masters in Pharmaceutical Science. Im just looking for a general guide as to how much it will cost in terms of tution fees.

    Fateh

you'll have to pay for your masters its about £4000 i think, becuase of the whole 'top up fees'. If LEA paid your fees before they should pay around £2000 of that depending on your circumstances. You can apply for grants if you need help paying the rest, but which specific grants are available, depends on your university and what prgrammes thay have in place for students who need help with fees!

Failing that you can always take another £3500 form student loans.

The one thing about science degrees is that your degree isnt worth anything untill you get some experience! your going to start on rubbish pay, untill you have about 2 years experience working in industrial labs!

so if you are going to have pay back a huge student loan it mite be better to work for a bit 1st then do your masters. When you finish your masters you can apply for jobs in excess of £20k becuase you'll have both experience and education.

    hope that helps paji!
