  1. Looks like the Soho Road Gurdwara is about 5 miles away

this one is about 4 miles away

    Singh Sabha Gurudwara Sikh Temple

80 Somerset Rd, Handsworth, Birmingham, West Midlands, B20 2JB

I would try calling the Council of Sikh Gurdwaras, Birmingham and ask them

    http://www.sikhcouncil.org.uk

I think the site you were referring to is http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Gurdwara_Map

it's good for seeing where Gurdwara's are but it doesn't list some of them

try using the search tool. Enter in the city and UK and it will show you the closest Gurdwaras that are in there database

    http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Gurdwaras_UK#

Thanks for the help. Singh Sabha Gurudwara was 5 mins from my last workplace, it was really nice to go down at lunch or after work when work got stressfull. Tuesday was bibia doing kirtan, so nice! Ive moved jobs to Great Barr now, so was just wondering if there was anything close by to there.

Nevermind, thanks again for everyones help.

  2. Waheguru!

I read about OCD i thought me having them thoughts is that...Waheguru - what is it then? and you seem like you know about OCD what do you think OCD is? Whats wrong with me then? am i going crazy? am i dangerous?

    Waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru

well im not sure about the OCD business, we covered it in pharmacology but that was like 3 years ago and this doesnt sound familar to what we did back then.

I wouldnt say your dangerous or going crazy, the fact that you know its bad to be having those thouhgts is proof of that. You say your mum and brother went through the same sort of thing, maybe you can have a chat with them and ask how they got through it?

I can only suggest that you try to keep your mind distracted by concentrating on paath or kirtan or something! If that dosnt work and talking to your familt doesnt work, i'd suggest seeing your doctor or a counsellor....honestly counselling sessions help soo much!

I hope it works out for you soon!

  3. I can help you! We have had rats and mice in our house. We basically went India for 3 months whilst some stupid family member left the lid on the peanuts and almonds open. When we came back the mice had a proper feast and plus during the party they fell pregnant and so we saw their babies dancing all around the house. Step by Step procedure

    STOP THEM FROM GETTING IN!

    1. Find their rat/mouse holes....search walls, look under carpet, look under furniture. I found one under the fridge and one by the Toilet! If you cannot find the holes stand still and watch the rat....

    2. Close off the holes....use cement..

STOP THEM FROM GETTING THE FOOD.

    3. There is a reason why sangat should not leave jooth. Educate the sangat about not leaving jooth....also clean floor and worksurfaces everyday!

    4. Make sure the aunties know that prepared food should be covered....seriously the amount of times I see roti open to the elements

    5. Cover bins with proper tight lids and check the bottom of bins cos rats have teeth with which they make holes....

    KILL THEM

    6. You can use mouse traps (not recommended cos low success rate plus you trap the rat and release it....and once released it comes back again! If your not gonna release it then you kill it yourself and thats worse than the poision cos the poison is designed to be less painful). You can leave rat poison (slightly better) OR there are these white sticky things...no poision involved but rats stick to these and dies of starvation. (Very painful!)

    7. You get all poison and white sticky things from your local environmental agency for free.....actually I think we got ours from the neighbourhood office. We told them we have mice in our house and they give you stuff. So make sure you ring them and have a chat.

HOWEVER MAKE SURE YOU DO THE 3 STEPS FOR PROPER SUCCESS!! You have to find the holes...

PS-if you ever have fly problems let me know!

wow that was really informative, we had rats when we moved into our new house (well old house now) we got a cat the rats disappeared within 4 days.

Just out of curiosity whats the procedure for fly problems, should I ever need to know.

  4. Im thinkin of doing a masters degree, im liitle confused about the things i need to consider. First of all im lost about weather or not ill be able to apply for a study loan as you can for undergraduate study and laso what is funding, by the way im from UK. Could someone please help me out.

    Fateh

It depends what your doing it in, certain masters have their own special funding you can apply to, e.g. astrophysics

find out from the people running the masters course, if there is funding available, they will encourage you to apply for it.

  5. Ive done a bit of work in both magistates and crown courts, but i dont wear a kirpan. They will ask you to take it off when you step through the metal detector and pat you down, but they should let you keep it on afterwards if you explain it's part of your religion.

It depends on the court, they were alot more strict at the magistrates than the crown for some reason.

  6. "Naa Ji naa ji , ih dhi loor nahi" but hell hath no fury if the ring was not offered.

that is so true! There a documentary on channel punjab like 6 months ago, andthey said the dowry is one of the main reasons why there are soo many baby girls being killed across the punjab, because poor parents cant afford to give these things.

Even though it is illegal to demand these things, if they weren't given 'voluntarily' from the girls side there would be total uproar.

  7. well when i was little i listened to pop and bangra, then i went into a bad phase and was mainly into black metal / death metal / goth metal. Then i found waheguru again and now i listen to some kirtan, some softish rock, and indie.

i like to listen to songs that have good meaning, just becuase its not kirtan it doesnt mean it cant inspire us to be better human beings. Its the same with reading stories. There are numerous stories / quotes posted on this website alone, that aren't sikh stories, yet we are inspired by them. Would you say this is wrong too?

Try listening to something like placebo - plasticine

i dont mean to offend anyone, i just feel that we should keep our minds open, and not judge a certain type of music like rock or hip-hop based on a few songs we have heard in that category.

  8. try:

    www.totaljobs.com

    www.reed.co.uk

    www.theitjobboard.com

www.fish4jobs.com (usually shows jobs that aren't on the other sites)

    www.accesssciencejobs.co.uk

www.jobserve.co.uk my friend got his last IT job from this site

erm i can also suggest going to www.mybirminghamjobs.co.uk and you'll get a link from there to other cities, im manchester must be covered to

I'd also try your local jobcentreplus!

    good luck :TH:

  9. My take on this is that you reap what you sow, if you do something that you know is wrong to someone else, you will have that same thing done back to you.

I guess the most common example of this is in a school environment, if you bully someone else, you will get bullied yourself...i know this from being both the bully and the victim. blush.gif

Also waheguru gave the "bad" boy plently of opportunties to turn around, but the boy did not listen. The same way that waheguru gives us plenty of opportunties to stop doing our bad deeds....and in the same way we dont always listen. pray.gif

Just my thoughts on this wjkk wjkf

  10. Fateh ji

What are the sangats views on doing ardaas sitting down? grin.gif

    Vaheguru

well i rememeber when i was at the gurdwara on new years eve, and they always have a really long ardas when the new year starts, and there was 1 really old lady behind me and she could only stand up for about half of it, she had to sit for the rest...i personally don't think there was anything wrong with that.

  11. older_singh.gif bapu ji says that the theory of different dialects of punjabi is not a theory it is a fact punglish is spoken by a lot of people in the west. lowest os the low singhni really explained the balance of the two words really in detail. Bapu ji says thank you

    lol!

Ok so this is what Bapu Ji says - what do you say? tongue.gif

When we were really small we spoke really good Punjabi, nd it was our first language, but since we started going to school our punjabi dropped.

This is what happened to me also! At home i speak in english with my brothers and sister, mainly englsh with my dad. my mums from india so i have to speak in punjabi with her, but it seems the more english she learns, the less punjabi i talk blush.gif
