  1. Personally I think this:

    Do whatever you like right

AND don't force your views on others

eg: "THIS is Gurmat.. otherwise is Manmat" who are we to say whats gurmat lol..

I used to wash kesh everyday - stopped coz ma kesh started falling off (even w/o shampoo) so me just chillin with weekly kesi ishnaan ini

  2. Religiously, we are all equal. Culturally we are not. If we allow ouselves to be judged according to culaturally subjective titles such as 'good vs bad girls' and or any other deragotory lables, then aren't we in fact saying that culture is overriding religion? Which, I certianly believe should not be the case.

I feel its society that rides this, and society is based on culture more than religion. People in general tend to limit religion to Nitnem/prayers and places of worship and Sunday. Why not instill religion into their daily lives?

What I am trying to say is, when we are taught to stay home, not be assertive, listen to what we are told, marry within our caste -- all of these things are the opposite of what our religion tells us, which as much as I know, I am proud to say, is to respect women and men equally in front of the khalsa, and the Golden Temple has four doors to accomodate all castes.

The only thing that seems to be against Sikhi is "marry within our caste" - all the other things in the list seem to be just ordinary family values depends on the family..

If all castes are welcome in the Golden TEmple, then surely they can be welcome in our homes, and families. A lot of the strife and fighting that occurs within families and between parents and children is about just that, caste, and other things, which religiously, we should all accept as SIkhs.

In my opinion, the reason why people didn't marry into castes was because of practicality. The ways of lives differed between castes (assuming that castes were based on jobs)

eg: Eating habits would've been different - farmers eat more body biulding stuff while businessmen eat more mind-making foods.. no?

However, what the introduction of Khalsa-hood has done, was create a way of life which was the same for all castes - Ie: Saint Soldier discipline. This solves the practicle issue.

That aside, coming to England/Canada etc has changed Punjabis - and the differences between castes also lessened from here (i dont see any chamaars making leather shoes or any Jatts farming). They all work together in the same occupations generally. So that also solves this issue. of different ways of life.

On the other hand, we , being the great people we are, stick to being ourselves and create an even bigger divide by co-operating it into religion (Casted Gurdwaras). I thought only Jatts/Rajputs had the caste-driven ego problem - No siree everyone is suffering from it.

So yeah, that's my opinion, I know it didn't help but it helped me to open up about this issue :D

  3. 3.The main part that confused me was, from verses 89-94, Guroo Sahib like praises Aurangzeb, after telling him off severly in all the rest of it, calling him things like Shaa shan shaa (king of kings) and handsome and everything, then after those verses Guroo Sahib goes back to telling him how bad he is, so i was like really confused.

I think maybe you're reading too much into this.. it is obvious what Guru Ji meant..

"Though you are the king of kings, O Aurangzeb ! you are far from righteousness and justice.94."

I mean maybe Aurangzeb was a good king, just messed up with Guru Ji.

If you think about it, a villian is not like the typical Bollywood-type villian where EVERYTHING about them is bad..

  4. it is completely normal

just make sure the room isnt skank

and that u make the right friends

and not get into bad crowds

and not get killed by food poisoning from old food stuffs

and not get ill form lack of hygiene in halls

and be ready to meet random people who maybe havnt seen an asian before

    and study and pass

lol joking chill everyone's in the same boat as you :D remember that

  5. In Sukhmani Sahib, there is an ashtapadi on sants, where some panktees start with sant, some with santan. Some recite sant and santan both, some recite only sant throughout. Which one is correct?

Recite it how it is written - You cant go wrong then.

Some people tend to pronounce "sant" throughout because maybe they are lazy/going too fast to know their mistake.

  6. Well he should ask himself was it all done with kaam in mind. Chances are, from what i read about kissing her neck, it was.

Pehla sochia nahi?! Emi aashiq banni firda lol..

I dont know about pesh though; Maybe he should go to ask for advice on what to do in the future - I'm guessing they would tell him to only minimally contact the girl form then on and no more physical contact.

OR he might be ordered to marry her! Interesting situation - doubt it happens though lol

There is no "specification" for going for peshi. If you ever have any doubts about whether what u did is wrong or not, then you should go to the panj pyare and ask for advice.

Hopefully you'll control yourself in the future. These little "moments" we tend to get into are not too healthy.

  7. some parents are just plain dumb IMAGE + FAMILY HONOUR is all they care about at the expense of family values and sikhi!

they say Parents are our first teachers the problem is most have sh!t teachers

This is exactly what i was talking about

  8. How about taking a different angle.

Since some time ago (round abt 50's) a new breed of human beings have evolved. Those that don't like following rules - That rebel if forced into anything - The ones that like to go against whatever their parents say. I'm talking about the teenager.

Back in the old day, the average teenager used to listen to what their parents used to listen to, wear what their parents did etc. But now, the average teenager listens to exactly the music that irritates parents, wear exactly what parents tell them not to and do everything that make them feel as independant as possible (watched this in "History of Britian" BBC1 i think).

Anyway my point is: maybe it due to this new teenage model, and the fact that parents nowadays don't really care about Sikhi - Therefore, being a hardcore Singh/Kaur is in some way being the independant being that teenagers want to be.

Personally, I wanted to take Amrit and when parents disagreed (everytime i mentioned Amrit tension used to grip the whole family), I wanted Amrit even more!

  9. Love means" give and take....u give love and you expect love in return"

not according to the famous dialogues of Bollywood "Love is about giving not taking" rolleyes.gif

    lol

On a serious note, i agree kaam krodh lobh moh hankar should be controlled rather than destroyed. I can provide quite a few references (not from Gurbani because I don't like using Gurbani 1-liners to point towards my argument) but to truthfully I can't be bothered :D

Believe what you want. If you're confused seek help.. and if you're kool then chillax :TH:

    Gurbar Akaal!

  10. Well yeah, an old enough age is maybe after 14 yrs old.. when they can make their own decisions.

If he does make the kid take Amrit, then would he force him to wake up at Amritvela? Make him do Nitnem everyday? Make him wear the 5 Kakaars? Doesn't sound too promising in my opinion..

..End of day, it's up to the individual if they are ready to take this big step.

  11. this is surely a piece-take. do you have any control over whether the chaiers or tables stay in langar hall? if youdo then surely go pesh. but if you go to a gurdwara where you hve no say over it, then stick to what you know. If you were on stage , then youhad an opportunity to say what the correct tradition is. If you missed this opportuniuty then as Bhai Nand Lal Ji says " jo beeti so beeti" and remember next time you'll klnow whatto do.

if this is the state of youths who believe ,today , we in serious trouble.

I have no control. It is not technically a Gurdwara, it's almost a Dera. No nishaan saheb, no maryada, it's not for the Sangat, it's private property, Gurdwara Nanaksar.

Wait.. that means there's no langar hall coz langar is not served in Nanaksar Gurdwaras no? Isnt that why there is no Nishan Sahib because of no langar??

    grin.gif

  12. Is it from Shree Guru Granth sahib or Dasam Granth?

lol bruv if u dont even know that then I suggest please take some time to go through Guru Granth Sahib ji before arguing with everyone over some pic :D

    I think

    ..............

    2)Ramayan Mahabharat are fictional books.

    Read Bhai Gurdas Ji's Vaars

    eg: http://www.sikhitothemax.com/page.asp?ShabadID=5765

if u dont know who duryodhan is then please please read mahabharat before commenting on it :TH:

Please tell me if Sikhi respects Kaali, hanuman, Lord Ram ,sita, Lord Krishan. if it is true then i need to change a lot. Because i will never accept them as true or worshipable.

you just said "Lord" Krishna.. oopsi :)

  13. There is no so called hanuman, aerodynamics he cannot fly, matter is constant cannot grow its size, Skeptic Sikh just you say about tech how can you prove there is anything as hanuman that ever existed, it can fly :D

These things are required by people with no brain to live a happy life as bani is not sufficient for them.

    Gurbaani mentions Ridhis and Sidhis.

There are 18 Sidhis. Of them, the eight are known as major and the remaining are considered minor. The eight principle Sidhis are as follows: the power to assume form as small as atom (Anima), as large as mountain (Mahimaa), as light in weight as air (Laghimaa), and as heavy in weight as the Earth (Grimaa); the power to attain anything desired (Praapati), to bring all senses under one's control (Vasitva), to have unhampered will (Prakaamaya), and the lordliness (Isha). The minor Sidhis are namely the power to be immune from hunger and thirst (Anooram), to hear from afar (Door Sharavan), to see from afar (Door Darshan), to travel fast like thought (Manoveg), to assume any desired form (Kaamroop), to enter into another's body (Parkaayi Parvesh), to die at one's own will (Sai Maritayaa), to enjoy meeting with gods (Surkareeraa), the fulfillment of desires (Sankalap Sidhi), and to go anywhere unobstructed (Apratihat Gat).
