  1. Thanx for the replies, Amrit sounds really interesting  It's true that none of us can know what will happen to us after death.

What happens if someone takes Amrit but then does something that goes against Amrit does that mean it is 'broken'? Do they have to perform it again?

Does wearing the 5 K's only mean soemthing after Amrit has been taken? what about people who wear some or all of the 5 K's before they take Amrit, do they still get 'reward' or blessings because they do that?

Have to admit that I did not know Amrit could be perfomed anywhere, for some reason I thought you had to go to India to have Amrit performed LOL!! blush.gif You learn soemthing new everyday :TH:

Oh and also in the article above it said soemthing about people shouldn't take Amrit too young, whats the best age to do it? Or does it really depend on the person and how strong they are in their beliefs?

  2. Peace to all

I know theres a thread about amrit already but because it's someone's else's I didnt want to intrude! Anyway I have some questions regarding amrit if any of you could tell me about it then i'd be grateful.

    1) Is amrit compulsory upon every sikh? i.e. does it have to be done or isit optional for those who want to become more orthadox in practicing sikhism?

    2) What ceremonies take place when you do amrit? What does it mean to have taken amrit?

    3) What happens to those who've taken Amrit upon death? Sikhism teaches about reincarnation (sorry if i'm wrong) doesn't it? So if someone took amrit and carried out their duties to their best ability what happens to them after death.

    4) Similar to 3) What happens to a sikh who has not taken Amrit, before and after death are they thought of differently?

    5) Nothing to do with amrit - what does the thing under my name mean? blush.gif

    Thanx

    Peace

  3. when i was little, we use to have sports day, I was the only sikh in my school, Prominantly white area. wasnt good at sports, but there was this event where u had to balance a small hoop on ur head and run a race. Id always come first, some pep would get well <Edited> while i took advantage of the curcumstances.

    lol!

I think i'm guilty of asking some of these unusual questions.. blush.gif Not some of the stupid ones though, lol its funny what some people come out with!

  4. From what im told about Islam is that men have no choice but to pray in the Mosque unlike for women where it is optional (Either they can pray at the Mosque or at home). I assume that is why men have a larger hall.

I dunno if this is specific to just Friday prayers or what tho...

Yes you're right. Men have to go to the mosque for friday prayers, for the other days it is more optional.

Women do not have to be at the mosque for friday prayers so it is optional for them, however because of lack of space for women at some mosques women often have no choice but to pray at home. That is what I have a problem with because some women prefer to pray at the mosque and its unfair if they are forced to pray at home because the hall is too small to accomodate them. Likewise, there should be enough room available for women at the mosque at any time, not just for friday prayers or any other prayers.

  5. Good article. I agree with what she says, and I have been discussing this issue with other muslim sisters recently aswell... muslim women need more space and as much right to be in a mosque as the men.. and as I can see from here Sikhism already provide quite a good means of doing this. I just add though that nowhere in the Qur'an does it say women should have a smaller hall than the men... unfortunately this is just some kind of weird tradition.

  6. he said a man should convert and will get 72 girls in paradise.

Seriously... dont beleive a word this man says. He's not Allah he can't go around saying things like this.

And yes Islam does teach not to steal.. the fact that he committed the fraud you described just shows how there's no way you can trust anything he says.

And the picture.... lol! Whatever possessed him to have a hook I will never know.

  7. So what if abu hamza said the same thing? Would you prefer I read about Sikhism from newspapers where information could be biased and/or not correct? Or go to authentic sources? This is what I mean by dont trust the media. They only have their own interests at heart. I wouldn't trust abu hamza with a barge pole anyway, I dont personally beelive he gives a true interpretation of Islam.

  8. the muslims are doing what they are doing because they are motivated by the fact they will....

    a. get to paradise

    b. get 72 virgins (for one conversion)

how do i know? i remember it was saying in a newspaper.

lol, with all respect... if you want to know anything about islam then read an Islamic book or ask a Muslim...dont beleive what you read in newspapers they cant be trusted by anyone.

  9. I wouldnt say stuff on here just to please you..dont worry..I say what I think!! (which can get me into trouble soemtimes!) rolleyes.gif

I dont mind people being curious, after all we should always ask questions if we are unsure. But I hope no one here now thinks that i'm actually a spy or soemthing ohmy.gif After all, I hope you can all see the post that jeeven pasted on here..... all of it was speaking out against the Rally it was just that one line where there was confusion..

Anyway bak to the topic, I hope everyone has successfully managed to contact people who may be able to stop the rally, and make everyone aware of it so it can be stopped.

  10. Jeevan, yes I am the same Yasmin you quote my post from an islamic board.

I wrote that I can see good sides....by that I meant that there are stalls there where information and debate can take place about Islam. I personally dont see any harm in this? It means any of you could come and debate Islam with knowledgeable people, and anyone who has any interest about Islam or wants to know anything about it can come and ask. Thats all... I'm sorry if it offends you in any way. I think the stalls idea is good but the overall event and the people it is run by is not.

I hope you see my point and I havent lost ur trust or anything. I dont have a problem with PEACEFUL stalls where people can learn and debate Islam but the main Rally....no I do not agree with and many times you must of seen on that Islamic forum I have said I do not agree with it.. If Sikhs where to set up stalls I wouldnt have a problem with that either, in fact people of any religion, but that is the only part of the event I see that could have any positive purpose, the rest I am definately against.

And also... I have no reason to want to deceive any of you. Firstly that is not Islamic behaviour from me and secondly what would be the point? I have a high respect for Sikhs I have no intention of doing anything 'suspicious' forgive me if I gave you that impression.

  11. yasmin bhanji, are you aware if al-mujhairon is generally a violent group of people? or do they jus talk smack and don't follow it up?

what i mean is, will they be enticed to make this rally violent if there are many people who peacefully oppose the rally, or would they jus cower and try to go on and finish their rallly asap?

I'm afraid I have no idea which way it'll go, I dont know much about the group except that I dont like them lol. I say to keep a lookout just in case, it may be peaceful it may not I dont know but keep a lookout anyway just for safety

They would be stupid anyway to start attacking people who are peacfully protesting, thats hardly gona make them seem like good people (even though we know they're not)

  12. Jahan glad to hear you know Muslims who are against it too.

Out of concern I urge you all to be very careful. Should the Al-Muhajiroun for any reason turn violent and target any of you I would hate for anyone here or any other person to get hurt. I tend to worry alot as you may have noticed rolleyes.gif Just because I care, please any of you who are attending be careful and keep your witts about you.
