  1. I don’t recall anybody organising a massive prayer syndicate when the panth has been in real dire peril in the past. Maybe the problem being it’s the right kind of Sikhs who are the biggest threat to Sikhi today, I can’t see any amount of prayers changing that. At times it’s commonsense to apply commonsense before asking for divine intervention.

  2. Look at the sikhsangat banner, that may enlighten yourself.

    Protection of the Victims

    Justice against the Tyrants

    Chardi Kalaa Of the Panth

Sorry for my ignorance but why is this being done?

Nope still don’t get it. Once completing the task what does the objective hope to achieve. what I’m asking is what change are all these people taking part wanting for?

  3. Some realy great replies...............it think is a beautiful notion that soul should be a vessel that transmits love.........and that we should be a beacon of light to all those around us..........there is always more pleasure in giving than recieving, as we begin to loose abit of that "self" that maharaj is telling us about..........ego............HauMai = Ha Mai = Yes I Am, if this becomes Tu Tu Tu, You You You...............how can we not become the very being that we were always meant to become?

Love is freedom...........everything simply limits all that we can possibly be...........

please do keep posting your thoughts

    :)

There is pleasure in both receiving and giving. For example there is little we could give to the Guru we can only receive vastness from him, so here we should also have love to receive. People between each other should give and receive joyfully and willingly, the only motive should be love and joy. This should be the basis of humanity.

  4. As per traditional Punjabi philosophy (in accordance with Sufi philosophy), love is majazi (worldly) or ilahi (divine). Usually majazi ishq is between human beings, and ilahi is the one with Vaheguru. However, there is to standard rule to this. Majority of the people going to their respective places of worship and putting their shopping list before Vaheguru have a majazi ishq with Vaheguru. On the other hand, there have been instances of ilahi ishq between human beings, like Heer Ranjha, Sohni Mahiwaal, etc.

I heard a brilliant katha by Sardar Mohinder Singh Cheema ji who is an amazing chardi kala GurSikh from UK. He said people use the term "true love", does that imply there is a "false love" as well? I found that statement absolutely an eye-opener! Personally speaking, the way I see it, and correct me if I am wrong, but true love is always a one way track. You just give, give, and give, but never demand or even expect anything in return. The article I bumped yesterday where Swami Vivekanand details about love ran in my head all day yesterday. I was astonished as to how I didn't realize the beauty of it 2 years ago when I first posted it.

Imagine the love Dasmesh Pita Ji had for us. He sacrificed His Divine Father for us, yet He NEVER picked up 5 random Sikhs to behead. Rather He gave us the option as to who wanted to come forward and OFFER his/her head. THAT is true love. He sacrificed all 4 of His Divine sons, yet He said "inhi ki kirpa ke sajay hum hain". Anyone else would have said "I gave up everything for you. Now either you follow me or you are going to get it". But NO! He put Himself at a level lower than His followers. THAT is true love.

What do we call our loved ones? "Meri jaan"!!! What did He say? "Khalsa meri jaan ki jaan"! THAT is true love. I am amazed at Bhai Pooran Singh Jee's words. Bhai Sahib was an Amritdhari GurSikh who went to Japan and converted to Buddhism. When he came back to India, he felt ashamed of himself. But he says he found Dasmesh Pita Ji waiting for him with open arms. THAT is true love!

If only we could have such a love among GurSikhs, and why just GurSikhs, why not for the entire creation! Love is the oldest language. It reflects in your eyes when you smile, in your tone when you speak. Every muscle of your being exposes it.

Ishq aur mushk kadi nah chhipdey, bhaawe lakh chhupaiyye

Akha lakh jhukaa ke challiye, palla lakh bachaiyye

    This reminds me of

The devotees of the Lord are known and respected; they do not hide in secrecy.

If we saw God in every human being, or each one as a creation of God (at least lol), it would be so much easier to forgive and not hate, to accept and not judge, to embrace and not fear, to respect and not condemn, to help and not neglect. The 5 vikaars would be light years away from us, as they would have no purpose to be around us.

And lastly, I sincerely wish I myself could start following all that I have typed above.

Mehtab Singh that was a great post. If a person is projecting love and joy which is a natural human condition they also attract it….the problem being, be the relationship with divinity or human alike the problem occurs when a person tries to find love in others and other things so they are no longer a source but a drain. Be joyful, be loving be happy…peace.

  5. Modernising we always should strive for in the upkeep of humanity for example medicine, science, facilities, transport etc etc. these things being modernised are a good and positive action because they address the basic and functional needs of society and humanity as a whole. Sikhi however cannot be modernised simply because it is beyond human comprehension as it is. For example in Gurbani it explains only the creator knows the secrets of his own, be it creation or evolution. We cannot modernise something that is limitless and infinite because we a humans naturally try to define and better things we cannot define something that is beyond our comprehension and the scope of our definition. Like life it is beyond meaning you cannot pin it down and try to define it, it’s a hopeless task. A Sikh is a conscious being who chooses the path not because he is born as one and not because his ancestors were also Sikhs because simply he or she accepts the method and it’s practice as a tool for betterment of the travel ahead. In a Sikhs life freedom of actions is celebrated there is no prohibitions the Sikh lives life consciously and in awareness they choose to or not to. The Sikh is not a conformer to modernising of marketing people like sheep and conforming to popular opinion.

  6. I am a 19 year old Sikh male , I ve been through very depressing times in my recent past !!!

    I have a worst personality ; AND I REALLY MEAN THAT !

    I am not like a Sikh of my age , strong & bold ;

& I am expecting Guru Gobind Singh Ji's amtit to make me that way !

Of course , I must not be expecting wrong from the amrit because If a sparrow can fight & injure an eagle after drinking a sip of amrit , then I as a human must be able to do much more !

But , still whats your view point ; Does Personality changes after drinking amrit ?? If yes , HOW ?? :umm: :gg:

The answer to the question is easier to address if you know what personality is and what influences its make up.

  7. After 15yrs the monks thinks it was better to be married after 15yrs the married man thinks it was better to be a monk……what am I trying to say? A vast amount of Punjabis with a bit of money in particular have a very basic flaw in their mentality always thinking that the grass is greener on the other side the alternative is the better option than the present situation.

I think the ones who truly saw the change were first generation immigrants who left the Punjab, who although may not have been strictly religious held on to the old ideals, imagery and culture. They see the change and often comment on it. Classically my father like possibly many of yours left the Punjab back in the 50’s-60’s. often he would tell me how they huddled around a singular heater during the bitter British winter thinking of home. He like many sent money home to improve the standard of living. Aftertime and various stresses it takes its toll on a man physically mentally emotionally. When he returns back to his village things have changed dramatically yes the standard of living has changed it’s better that’s good, but the people have also changed. Some here will argue the same old dismissive argument government influence etc etc, yes to a degree. But the moral decay of Punjabis is very much down to themselves. They have become enslaved by money, riches and keeping up with the Jones mentality.

My father now says sometimes to make people understand quality of life it’s better to just build basic toilets rather than lavish temples!

  8. The bird in the picture is certainly odd looking - not an eagle, definetly a falcon and possibly a young female saker.

I have an interest in falconry and myself cannot understand where the idea of Guru's baz being the Gyr falcon came from. I suppose people presume this because they are generally whiter than other raptors and in the West are regarded as falcons used by emperors. However such falcons were not native to that part of Asia - indeed in the Baz Nama Yi Nasiri alludes to this bird being almost mythical in its rarity. In fact there is no great interest in them as far as eastern falconry is concerned. Examples would have had to come from Russia at that time (northwestern modern Russia) and transport over that distance then would have meant a very poor wretched bird if not a dead one, by the end of such a journey.

My personal opinion is that Guruji's baz was a Goshawk. In the east this was regarded as the falcon of Kings. It was a seasonal visitor to the north of the subcontinent and flew in from the Atlas mountains. The Tiquin variety is likely to have been Guruji's hawk and was probably given to him by an Afghan Sikh. Its other name is the Kaffuri (not meaning infidel, but meaning pureness/ white). Examples can seem almost albino. Before 1947 the principle falconer's market for the north of the subcontinent was located at Amritsar (it then moved to Lahore where it is today and hence famous names such as Lahore-bells used in modern falconry around the world). The Sikh maharajas of the Punjab such as Patiala were principle patrons of falconry and it was known that Goshawks were purchased from Amritsar for very high prices. The price of a Kaffuri baz/ Tiquin baz was far higher than any other including the shaheen (peregrine) and shughar (saker) which were popular hunting birds amongst the zamindars of pre-independant Punjab.

Any chance of some comparative pictures? Also my understanding is that goshawks are easier to train than other raptors am I correct in thinking if a person wanted to start in falconry it’s a good option to start with?

  9. A simple way to look at it and understand it is Shaheed Singhs remain so out of choice, unlike other qualities of Attmas they retain the rational thought and thinking process therefore they are conscious and aware more than ourselves in par with other spiritual beings who also remain out of choice. These beings are able to pick and choose where and when they may wish to take rebirth if they need to even in which womb. However unlike other disembodied attmas who can remain in that state without time limit (hellish), spiritually advanced being don’t have as much time to spend in their state (heavenly) usually they take birth out of choice or reabsorbed into the timeless infinity.

  10. There’s a way of doing things and a way of saying things, what’s been done so far and said so far is pretty disgusting.

When we say Sant-Sapai it means something and stands for something a standard of chivalry and honour, any thing less is not the conduct of a Singh and anything less is not good enough.

  11. This nihang rehit is so good and complete. Why do the nihangs are not considered to be a part of mainstream sikhs ? People have a feeling that Nihangs have created their own maryadas and rehits and are not part of mainstream. What are the points of contradiction between mainstream sikhs and Nihangs (other than shaheedi degh) ?????

By mainstream you mean popular, what is popular isn’t always what is right and what is true. Ultimately it is better to attempt full heartedly genuinely something and fail and understand that awareness in failure is a strength to success. Rather than the pretence, grind and repetition of falsehood practice. Fundamentally the former may utter just one “Vaheguru” and be free from this mentality whilst the latter continues on the rodent wheel of life, amusingly obvious sadly unproductive. Truth is what you want in its most beautiful ugly form.

  12. A woman has been arrested in Japan after she allegedly killed her virtual husband in a popular video game.

The 43 year old was reportedly furious at finding herself suddenly divorced in the online game "Maplestory".

Police say she illegally accessed login details of the man playing her virtual husband, and killed off his character.

The woman, a piano teacher, is in jail in Sapporo waiting to learn if she faces charges of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating data.

She was taken to Sapporo - where her "husband", a 33-year-old office worker lives - from her home in southern Miyazaki 620 miles (1,000 km) away after her arrest on Wednesday.

If charged with the offenses, and convicted, she faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

    'So angry'

A Sapporo police official, according to the Associated Press news agency, said the woman had used the man's ID and password to log into the game last May to carry out the virtual murder.

"I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry," she was quoted by the official as telling investigators.

Maplestory is a Korean-made game, which has grown in popularity around the world but has a strong fan base in the Far East.

The game centres on defeating monsters, but players can also engage in social activities and relationships - including marriages - through their digital characters, called avatars.

  13. He mentions a metaphoric brother who is deaf and blind and is killed, I wonder what method would he have preferred his brother to die? slow and laboriously or quick and swiftly. According to the scientific doctor the slower method would have been a better one, yep he sure knows what he’s on about. As for the Sikhs attacking from behind and Muslims attacking from the front historical facts here also debunk the good doctor….don’t give up the day job.

  14. Friend 'last to see Hannah alive'

Hannah was found strangled two days after she went missing

A friend of 17-year-old Hannah Foster has described how they waved goodbye to each other after a night out.

Winchester Crown Court heard that Helen Wilkinson was the last person to see Hannah alive on 14 March 2003.

Miss Wilkinson described how Hannah watched her get on a bus, then waved to her, before starting the short walk to her home in Portswood, Southampton.

Hannah never made it and was found strangled two days later. Maninder Pal Singh Kohli, 40, denies her murder.

He also denies rape, kidnap and false imprisonment.

Oxford graduate and PhD student Miss Wilkinson told the court how the pair had been friends since they were 11 years old.

    One drink

She said they both attended Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh near Southampton, where they were studying A-Levels, sharing the same subjects of chemistry and biology.

Miss Wilkinson told the jury that she and Hannah had met after college that day and decided to go out for the night in the Portswood area of Southampton.

Maninder Pal Singh Kohli denies all the charges against him

She said they visited several bars, but only had one alcoholic drink all evening.

Miss Wilkinson told the court how they had arrived at a venue called the So bar by about 2230 GMT, where they talked about moving on to another bar.

Miss Wilkinson said: "We started to walk there and Hannah said: 'Shall we just not bother?' and I said yes, and we turned back.

"We started walking back into Portswood so I could get a bus home."

    India flight

Miss Wilkinson told the jury how after she got on the bus, she waved at Hannah through the window as the teenager set off along Highfield Lane towards her home about 400yds (366m) away.

The jury of eight men and four women were told this was the last time that Hannah was seen alive.

They also listened to a recording of the 999 call Hannah made as she was being abducted by her killer.

In it, her frightened voice could be heard as she made conversation with a man with an accent but the call was disconnected after 50 seconds because Hannah was not speaking directly to the operator.

Mr Kohli is alleged to have snatched Hannah from the street in his van in the moments after she waved goodbye to Miss Wilkinson.

Jurors heard on Tuesday that the teenager's blood was found in a van used by Mr Kohli, who took a flight to India two days after her body was discovered.

    The trial continues.

  15. post-13796-1223986669.jpg

Maninder Pal Singh Kohli was a sandwich delivery driver

    Girl 'called 999 before murder'

A 17-year-old girl whose body was found at a roadside called 999 after she was abducted by her alleged killer, a court has heard.

Hannah Foster hoped the emergency services operator would hear the conversation with Marinder Pal Singh Kohli, Winchester Crown Court heard.

The prosecution alleges it was Mr Kohli's voice heard during the call.

Hannah disappeared after a night out in Southampton in 2003. Mr Kohli, 40, denies murder, rape, and kidnap.

He also denies a charge of false imprisonment.

Nicholas Haggan QC, prosecuting, said the operator could not hear what was being said and there was a system which disconnected the call after a short time to stop accidental emergency calls clogging up the system.

    Found strangled

Mr Haggan said it was the crown's case that the driver of the vehicle heard speaking on the tape was Mr Kohli, a sandwich delivery driver.

The jury heard that Hannah disappeared on 14 March 2003 after a night out with friends. She was found strangled in Allington Lane in West End, near Southampton, two days later.

Mr Haggan said she was walking a short distance from a bus stop to her home in Southampton when she disappeared.

"At 11pm that evening, Hannah managed to use her mobile phone to contact the emergency services.

"It's quite obvious from the recording that she was in a moving vehicle. In that vehicle with her was a man.

"That man was speaking to her in a heavily-accented voice."

    The trial continues.
