  1. oh man I hate when that happens.

The main reason this happens for me is when I don't tie my keski properly, b/c if the laars of your keski kinda overlap and form a small ridge on your keski, like if you run your hand over your keski and there's bump where laars or some fabric scrunch up and form a bump, then when you tie your dastaar over it, it will push that bump into your head.

The only way to really fix it is to make sure you tie a really good keski. and if it still hurts, all you can really do is hold your dastaar with two hands on both temples, push, and then move your eyebrows up and down, that releives tension.

Or just attck your dastaar with a vaaj (salayee) all day :)

  2. QUOTE

you cover your head with a keski. as keski is the 5th kakaar.

Actually, the kesh is the 5th kakaar. Keski is NOT the 5th kakaar.

The keski purely only covers the kesh.

    Fateh.

some groups say kesh, some say keski.

either way we have to keep our kesh. and we have to wear a keski.

lets not debate and stick to topic.

Regarding the posters comment about not cutting nails. They are dead skin cells that pile up and make nail. hair is living. nails are not.

  3. Im sorry for dragging up this topic after it seems to have died down but manni007 its just that when someone says something like this:

Now let me bring you to our World - 2009, where mere prayer adn inaction will not get you very far when dealing with Islamic fanatics!

    mere prayer?

    MERE PRAYER????

Let me bring you to the world- its called kaliyug - and it's the reason we are fighting instead of being productive.

Im not gunna sit here and pretend I'm perfect and have all the answers because I'm not and I don't. But mere prayer shows you have some stuff to learn about sikhi.

But then again, we all have lots to learn, so lets learn and not dwell on learning. :)

Your right that we have to do something to stop our sisters from getting tangled up with these muslim guys but you have to recognize that the reason these girls go to these guys in the first place is that they have no clue about sikhi or yes somehow they are manipulated.

More than half the sikh youth i have met through school don't know jack about sikhi besides going to the gurudwara when their parents make them. Gurudwara's are guru ghar, i know but, this new business mentality, where people start gurudwara's just for the revenue, or because they don't like the stance on the Dasam Granth the gurdwara across the street holds, clouds them from seeing the need for gurudwara's reaching out and bringing kids in.*using an example don't turn this into a Dasam Granth debate plz*

We don't need ragi's who take money to teach at gurudwaras and then go back to india with their pockets full. We need people teaching for free and scheduled classes.

Will this happen by itself. Nope.

We ( the youth) have the power right now. If we go in talk to gurudwara's and talk to the guys and charge and say hey. We have a teachers willing to teach, students willing to learn, and gurmat needing teaching. We would like to do it here and with your support. I'm pretty sure no one will say no.

If you say the sikh youth is not coming to class or something like that. Walk door to door, house to house, find the youth, talk to them and their parents. Bring them out.

Large events at gurudwara's, request time to speak to the sangat. Talk about these problems to those who are facing it. Show them the path of gursikhi.

If we can get people on this path in their youth. Get them to understand the importance of their sikhi, do you think these bad people will have a chance at brainwashing our sisters? turning our brothers? No way!

The problem is internal. Its up to us. Lets start now.

  4. By the way I'm on the toilet right now

    ewwww...too much info.

yeah from memory it's all good, naam japna included.

But as already said, you wouldn't take a gutka sahib into the bathroom would you?

    nope.

So should you take a phone with bani on it and read it?

    nope.

    :)

Says Baynee, listen, O devotee: who has ever attained liberation after such a death? ||5||

Can someone help me understand this. I mean I get the actual shabad (theres translations), but is this shabad a warning of what could happen, or is it that I've done too much wrong that I won't "obtain liberation"?

Sangat Ji, I just started doing Aarti after Rehras Sahib, and was using this youtube video, to check my pronunciation but the video and my Nanaksar gutka didn't match up. What's the way Aarti is normally read?

Ps. I haven't taken amrit yet so I don't follow any specific maryada, the Nanaksar gutka is the only one that has Aarti in it though... :)

  7. dude, i was ten back in the late 90s so i didnt have the internet. this stuff is pretty standard though, i've seen some pretty crazy death videos from iraq on some sites. i wont post them though, as they are definitely not for kids. capri's vid isnt that bad.

ok so if YOU DID HAVE INTERNET, or if your saw a video on tv of a guy with his head on fire dead...how do you think you would react?

i've seen some pretty crazy death videos from iraq on some sites. i wont post them though, as they are definitely not for kids

ok so how gruesome a death does someone have to die before its inappropriate to show on sikhsangat?

edit: Am I really the only one thinking this should be removed, b/c if I'm out of line someone please speak up........and I'll stop protesting it i guess....we could open a thread, make it a sticky.. Electrocutions, Decapitations, and Incinerations.....

Sangat Ji, I've just started doing kesh de sanskaar and well the first time i tried it.... it was a mess, i couldn't get my kesh to burn completely and i kinda burnt a finger or two.

What i was wondering is can accelerents be used during the sanskaar? OBVIOUSLY not alcohol but I was thinking maybe butane, or something like oil? I really don't know.

Or if anyone has any suggestions on how to do it, they would be more than welcome.

  9. I ask that because...well, I'm only 15 year old and this is really hard for me.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!

Bhenji!!! That is the exact same time I started asking the same questions!!!! To tell you the truth that was only 3 years ago for me. and to be honest I still ask those questions.... Why do i have to do this? why do i have to do that?

Also the reason I started asking those questions was b/c I had to do a presentation for geography and thought I'll do it on Sikhism, it will be so easy.....but no way was it easy.

Because I looked at what I learned from researching and my life up until that point and I felt like crap. Even now I'm getting kind of depressed thinking about this stuff because at this point I still haven't been able to get through all the bad habits, and haven't been able to give myself up to Guru Sahib 100%.

Most people on this forum where probably like you at one point, I know I was so don’t worry

Samadhi is 100% right. This is where everyone one starts off (from what I know).

The KEY THING is don't think your losing anything, UNDERSTAND that you are GAINING something.

I don't think Im as brave and courageous as those who give up those things and I feel that if Im not then Guru Ji will not be proud of me from what I am learning.

To be honest I feel the exact same way alot of the time. Like sure over the last three years I've developed an ok understanding of bani. I've learned to read Gurmukhi, but I haven't been able to throw off some of the worst habits I picked up in my youth.

So does that mean Guru sahib doesn't love me? I don't think so.

I think if you and me are making an honest effort to better ourselves than Guru sahib is proud of us. Because sure we aren't able to get out of these things right away. But the fact that we're struggling through it, toughing it out, pushing with all our might. I think thats what Guru sahib is happy about.

But if we say, well if Guru sahib doesn't love me if I can't do it all, why make the effort? Thats where we fail.

How can we expect Guru sahib to help us when we don't make an effort to please him, right? :)

One thing you have to understand is that just by causing you to ask these questions , I think it means Guru Sahib is happy with you. The fact that your making an effort means Guru sahib wants you to become closer to him. Just keep making an effort and Guru Sahib will make these worries go away, they will seem like trivial things.

I just want to say that I'm giving advice only through what I have experienced, and my limited knowledge. Remember Bhenji, I'm almost exactly where you are, I haven't taken amrit but I'm struggling to get there, and that's the key thing, that we keep struggling and fighting, but with an effort. So if your not ready to take your make up off right away, try using less and less, and I STRONGLY suggest you start learning gurmukhi, your age is the exact same time I started learning it.

    You're not alone!
