  1. As someone mentioned earlier it's the life that you live AFTER taking Amrit is the one that can be called living as a Sikh. Many many people use the example of those that have their hair or are Amritdhari and do bad. Truth being that those types are few but they get the most attention. Many monas use the example of people with hair doing bad. There is no doubt that there are those that keep their hair and do bad. But again they are few. And many people mistake taking Amrit with the external Rehit ONLY. They think that you take Amrit to wear the 5 ks when that is correct but actually Amrit is taken to begin your internal Rehit as well. Amrit wipes your spirtual state clean and you are reborn. The external Rehit aides in maintaining the internal Rehit. You can't keep one without the other. I've spoken with monas who say that they don't need to keep their hair because they have Sikhi on the inside, they don't need to show it. The truth being that if you truly love something you will show it on the outside AS WELL as the inside. Most people who go away from Sikhi can't stand or deal with the external Rehit which is the first step. If you can't deal with step one forget going any place else. Again it is a hard step to take Amrit because you have to change EVERYTHING about yourself to live a spiritual life. Your thinking is changed forever. But I think that if you feel that you are spiritually high and you don't need Amrit or don't see the need for it, then you are mistaken, it is Guru Sahib's hukam afterall, in order to be a Sikh you have to follow Rehat and Jap Naam, where do you get both of those, from Guru Sahib in the form of Panj Pyarays. 2. Without the Code of Conduct, One can not be referred to as a 'Sikh'. Without the Code of Conduct, One will suffer in the Lord's Court.
  3. Sikhs in Guru's time didn't wear kurta pajamas, but cholas.
  4. When we think we know how everything should be, we are Self-willed. If we go with what Guru Sahib wants then we are on the right path. If you turn to the world for guidance you will hurt only yourself. A Sikh's thinking should ONLY BE as dictated by Guru Sahib. Guru Sahib talks to use through their bani. If you want to talk to Guru Nanak Dev Ji or Guru Gobind Singh Ji, read Gurbani. Again, I know nothing, I'm not anything, I'm just babbling, if I have made any mistakes, please forgive me.
  5. As Guru Sahib says: gurmuiK rwg suAwd An iqAwgy ] guramukh raag suaadh an thiaagae || The Gurmukh renounces other songs and tastes. Full Shabad: http://www.sikhitothemax.com/page.asp?ShabadID=1606 It's very hard to do, hopefully Guru Sahib can bless us with Gurmukh Jeevan.
  6. Regardless if a song has good or clean meanings is not the point. Why listen to anything other than Gurbani? If you are a Sikh then why listen to American music which has good meanings? The bottom line in a Sikh's life is Gurbani. All the good meaning and messages that people are looking for in non-Gurbani is useless. Gurbani can give you soo much meaning and stuff that can change your life why the need to get good meanings out of songs? We try to fill the void in our lives with what the world says is the way to be happy dancing, singing, have certain fashions, and so on.. All we need is Guru Sahib, be it through doing Paat or Singing through kirtan, that's all the meaning you need. If you feel that you can't get everything from Guru Sahib and there is a need to listen to black eyed peas for meaning then do as you wish, but it will be a waste. For those of you in this thread that are not really into kirtan or have doubts listen to the track I posted in my other post in this thread. See if you feel anything:). Galteea Maaf Karnee Jeeo
  7. When you have kirtan jathas like AKJ, who needs crap rap, rock, whatever. Its all junk and it is only listened to in order to please the mind, that is all. It does nothing for the soul and more importantly it takes you away from VAHEGURU. Once you get into listening to kirtan, everything else is a JOKE. Galtee Maaf Karnee Jee.. my personal favorite track: http://media.waheguroo.com/Akhand_Keertan/...n_Singh_Jee.mp3 Start listening at the 56:40 and listen to the rest of the track. Also check out for 70:00. The 70th minute is amaazzing!!!! The power WOW!! Amazzing stuff, when you have this who needs rap? BE SURE TO HAVE THE VOLUME UP!!
  8. Sikhs are Warrior-Saints, not just Saints. I think the reason that Bollywood is able to get away with discriminating against Sikhs is because they know Sikhs will do nothing. If we are Sikhs we have to be both Warriors and Saints. If they feared us they wouldn't be making fun of us. The odd thing is that even with a Sikh PM, India still thinks of Sikhs as jokers. The reason for the need of Sarbloh Warriors video game is because today's youth actually learn from video games as a medium for learning. In the past it has been primarily TV, but video games have become quite popular. Also in today's age, the Sikhi Saroop is not liked by the youth and many have cut their hair for that reason. So by having this video game which makes Sikhi Saroop and Shastaars cool, this will have a positive impact on the Sikh youth, it doesn't matter what the 1 gora that plays the game thinks, its the realization by the youth who play the game that the Sikhi Saroop is cool and essential. 14. I think that the best thing to do katha on is the first shabad that you are singing. Most people don't know the meaning of the shabad even though everyone reads it when a child is born no one knows what it means. People understand the poota mata kee isees part but after that no one pays attention. The fact that Gurusahib wants us, his children, to never forget Vaheguru and ALWAYS be remembering him. That is the key. Also when doing ardaas, mention that the child may be blessed by Guru Sahib for a GurSikhi Jeevan even though the parents are not religious, some things to think about. Anyways that's what I would do. The meanings for the shabad are here: http://www.sikhitothemax.com/page.asp?ShabadID=1839 Bul Chuk Maaf Karnee Jee...
