  3. ONE BEDROOM FLAT... & One Extra ... As the dream of most parents I had acquired a degree in Software Engineer and joined a company based in USA, the land of braves and opportunity. When I arrived in the USA, it was as if a dream had come true. Here at last I was in the place where I want to be. I decided I would be staying in this country for about five years in which time I would have earned enough money to settle down in India. My father was a government employee and after his retirement, the only asset he could acquire was a decent one bedroom flat. I wanted to do some thing more than him. I started feeling homesick and lonely as the time passed. I used to call home and speak to my parents every week using cheap international phone cards. Two years passed, two years of Burgers at McDonald's and pizzas and discos and 2 years watching the foreign exchange rate getting happy whenever the Rupee value went down. Finally I decided to get married. Told my parents that I have only 10 days of holidays and everything must be done within these 10 days. I got my ticket booked in the cheapest flight. Was jubilant and was actually enjoying shopping for gifts for all my friends back home. If I miss anyone then there will be talks. After reaching home I spent home one week going through all the photographs of girls and as the time was getting shorter I was forced to select one candidate. In-laws told me, to my surprise, that I would have to get married in 2-3 days, as I will not get anymore holidays. After the marriage, it was time to return to USA, after giving some money to my parents and telling the neighbors to look after them, we returned to USA. My wife enjoyed this country for about two months and then she started feeling lonely. The frequency of calling India increased to twice in a week sometimes 3 times a week. Our savings started diminishing. After two more years we started to have kids. Two lovely kids, a boy and a girl, were gifted to us by the almighty. Every time I spoke to my parents, they asked me to come to India so that they can see their grand-children. Every year I decide to go to India. But part work part monetary conditions prevented it. Years went by and visiting India was a distant dream. Then suddenly one day I got a message that my parents were seriously sick. I tried but I couldn't get any holidays and thus could not go to India. The next message I got was my parents had passed away and as there was no one to do the last rights the society members had done whatever they could. I was depressed. My parents had passed away without seeing their grand children. After couple more years passed away, much to my children's dislike and my wife's joy we returned to India to settle down. I started to look for a suitable property, but to my dismay my savings were short and the property prices had gone up during all these years. I had to return to the USA. My wife refused to come back with me and my children refused to stay in India. My 2 children and I returned to USA after promising my wife I would be back for good after two years. Time passed by, my daughter decided to get married and my son was happy living in USA. I decided that had enough and wound-up every thing and returned to India. I had just enough money to buy a decent 2-bedroom flat in a well-developed locality. Now I am 60 years old and the only time I go out of the flat is for the routine visit to the nearby temple. My faithful wife has also left me and gone to the holy abode. Sometimes I wondered was it worth all this? My father, even after staying in India, had a house to his name and I too have the same nothing more. I lost my parents and children for just ONE EXTRA BEDROOM. Looking out from the window I see a lot of children dancing. This damned cable TV has spoiled our new generation and these children are losing their values and culture because of it. I get occasional cards from my children asking I am alright. Well at least they remember me. Now perhaps after I die it will be the neighbors again who will be performing my last rights, God Bless them. But the question still remains 'was all this worth it?'   4. See God's Light Within ALL In December 2004, while I was studying in London, I visited the Gurdwara Sahib in Southall and Giani jee was doing Kathaa (discourse on Gurbaani). Giani jee's words stuck to my mind. He explained how Gurbaani says Waheguru resides WITHIN ALL and that Waheguru FORGIVES and CLEANS the sins or filth of a sinner. He went on to explain how at the end of Ardaas we all say together, ‘naanak naam chardee kalaa, tere bhaane sarbat da bhalaa’. Yes, we say, ‘SARBAT DA BHALAA’. We ask for the good of ‘ALL’. Guru Gobind Singh Sahib jee did NOT say, "I ask for the good of all EXCEPT for AURANGZEB who cowardly murdered my two young sons." No. When we do Ardaas we do not say, "Sarbat Da Bhalaa, but NOT that person who swore at me last week… I don’t want his bhalaa (good)." A beautiful analogy was given to illustrate that there is good within all. We say Waheguru is within all, but from personal experience seeing Waheguru is difficult at times. The example given by Giani jee was A lady works hard to earn a living. On the side, she saves a little bit of money at a time, so that they she can save up to buy a GOLD BRACLET. Eventually, the lady saves enough money to go the jeweller’s shop and buys a gold bracelet. She gives the bracelet to her child. The child one day is walking with the bracelet and accidentally DROPS the bracelet in the GUTTER. The gutter is DIRTY. God knows what is in the gutter â€" urine, dirt, people’s spit, and the smell. Would we expect the child to leave the bracelet in the gutter and walk on home? NO. Why not? Because he knows how HARD his mother has WORKED to earn the money, which she used to buy the bracelet. Therefore, he stretches out his arm and PICKS UP the dirty bracelet. He goes to WASH the bracelet with WATER and SOAP, and then puts it back on his hand. Waheguru has made ALL of us. Waheguru sees us all in an EQUAL light, because the Lord has created us and the Lord knows how beautiful we are within DESPITE how much FILTH and DIRT we throw on ourselves. Guru Nanak Sahib jee did not only REVEAL Gurbaani, but he also LIVED Gurbaani. Guru Nanak Sahib jee stretched his arm out to help people. Guru Nanak Sahib jee stretched his arm out to help people out of the gutter of Kaljug. Guru Nanak Sahib jee stretched his arm out of people to give them the CHANCE to realise that they can clean themselves and realise that under this dirt and filth lies a beautiful TREASURE. Guru Nanak Sahib jee gave his arm out to BHUMEEAA CHOR, a bandit and thief, and helped him to become a SANT, saintly person. Guru Nanak Sahib jee gave his arm out to KAUDA RAAKASH, a cannibal who ate men, and inspired him to remember Waheguru and live a TRUTHFUL LIFE. Guru Nanak Sahib jee gave his arm out to SAJJAN THAG, a deceitful murderer who would rob people of their money, and made him REALISE the consequences of his actions and CHANGE his life. Giani Jee explained to the Sangat that Guru Nanak Sahib jee gave his arm out. He saw Waheguru within all, because he shared the Light of God, he knew that Waheguru had created EVERYONE. It is the perversion of the mind and one's actions that are evil, NOT THE PERSON. Just as the child stretched out his arm to get out the gold bangle from the dirty gutter because he knew his mother had worked hard to buy it, similarly the Gurmukh recognises the divinity WITHIN ALL the creation, despite the dirt and filth which one may throw over themselves. thankz nd regards gitika kaur khalsa

To date, the selfless efforts of these champions of the poor have restored the vision of 40,000 Indian villagers. Surinder Kainth and Kamal Mroke arrived in Canada from the Punjab as young men. Surinder is a Burnaby mill worker and home renovator, a happily married man devoted to his family and community. Kamal is a successful restaurateur who owns the popular India Bistro on Davie Street , as well as interests in the upscale Copper Chimney on Hornby Street . He lives with his wife and their two children in Vancouver.Both men could easily have turned their backs on India and her poor, lived affluent lives in Canada and thought no more of the horrors of their homeland. Instead, each day, Surinder and Kamal tuck away cash in copper kettles. Generous customers and friends stuff tens and twenties, sometimes hundreds, into these kettles. And every February, Surinder and Kamal gather that money and spend a month among the downtrodden of Punjab, co-ordinating and funding the restoration of their sight through teams of Indian doctors, nurses and volunteers.It was Surinder who, eight years ago, founded Natar Sewa Manch (People's Eye Charity). Four years later, after befriending the missionary man he now calls "brother," Kamal agreed to join Surinder in his annual pilgrimage.In the early years, there were only a handful of eye camps. Last year, 12 camps performed 7,400 operations on people from 300 villages, introducing thousands of subsistence farmers to the benefits of corrective lasers and prescription eyeglasses.Next year, the "brothers" plan to sponsor 15 eye camps at a cost of $37,500. "Forty per cent of Indians have eye disease," says Surinder, whose grandmother was blind. "It's the pollution, the dust, and the fact they have no medical care. "God gives us a good country and good health. Our small efforts, that is the least we can do." For Kamal, whose aunt was blind while he was a child, it is a matter of blunt philosophy."You know what? I give you food, a million dollars or eyes on the table. What will you grab?" he asks. "Eyes. You're hungry and you're blind, I can feed you, but you're hungry tomorrow. But if I give you eyes, you can go and earn a million dollars and feed your family." Before Surinder and Kamal even arrive in India , village volunteers herald their arrival with rickshaw-mounted loudspeakers, inviting the sightless poor for a free medical consultation. The eye camps, located within a short bus ride of state hospitals where the surgeries are performed, attract 700 to 800 people. The Indian government pays the wages of the doctors and nurses. Surinder and Kamal cover everything else: Needles, sutures, thread, anesthetics, antibiotics, medical instruments, artificial lenses, blankets, food, tents and buses to deliver patients to the rudimentary operating theatres. The eye camps last three days. On Day 1, the fearful patients and their families arrive and line up for hours awaiting a consultation. A doctor shines a flashlight into their eyes. Patients needing immediate cataract surgery get a large letter "C" scribbled on their foreheads. Those who can get through another year are told to come back next time. The pen-marked poor spend the night on the floor under makeshift tents. On Day 2, the operations are performed on tables three abreast. The eye is numbed with a local anesthetic and the eyelid is pulled back and held with a single stitch of thread before the doctor moves in with two, small, spoon-like tools. "It takes five minutes," says Kamal. "The doctor does a small cut and from the side -- slowly, slowly -- he will pop the cataract lens out. Then he puts the plastic lens in and puts only one stitch on it. Then the nurse comes, puts three more stitches in. Another guy comes, he puts on the bandages. It's like a factory. We do 100, 120 people a day." Day 3 is set aside for recovery. At the end of the day, after a lecture on post-operative care and a fresh dressing, the patients return to their faraway lives of hardship.Says Kamal: "They don't own anything. They can't afford anything. They can't even afford bus fare. How are they going to go to a doctor? "The eyeglasses? Two dollars Canadian. They can't afford it." In 2004, Jinder Sandhu, a registered nurse at Vancouver 's St. Paul 's Hospital, joined the brothers on their annual pilgrimage. Born in the Punjab but raised in Vancouver, Jinder says she was simply unprepared for the relentless crush of human suffering at the Natar Sewa Manch camps.But what struck her as most disturbing, she says, was the number of villagers who fled in the hours and moments before their surgery.She says fear of the unknown was a factor, but suspects poverty was the true cause."You're asking them to give up their living for a week," she explains. "A lot of people will say, 'No, I can't afford to.' . . . They just leave, even though they'll go blind. They think only of today -- can I feed my family today?'" But there were also those for whom the most basic medicine is a miracle."Gratitude and joy like you wouldn't believe -- it's very emotional," says Jinder. "It's a good-hearted person who started it all." Neither Surinder nor Kamal enjoys the attention. "The people touch your feet," explains Kamal. "They say, 'You're so good, you're like a god to us.' We don't want that. We don't like that. We say, 'We are only here to help you get your life back together because if your eyes are gone, your life is gone.'" Each trip, they take on a "special case" and pay for it out of their own pockets. Next February, it will be surgery for a 22-year-old woman disfigured by a facial tumour."Friends, family, it all helps. We can't do it alone," says Surinder, a "hobby chef" who also cooks for charities and weddings in exchange for eye-camp donations. Kamal says they have been approached by non-profit organizations but refuse to see their hard-got money piffled away on administrative costs."When you do it with your own money, you feel so good," he says. You should have that confidence and that sharda/bhavna/faith that you can achieve...contrarily, you should have a great reason as to why you're letting an opportunity slip by. Thanks for the post. Hmmm, not convinced. Big scary bulls and their tails, and farmer'sdaughters, don't make good analogies for falling for Sikhi. Good effort though. Must try harder.

  15. waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh Eight sweet lies of a mother: very hearttouching, it brought me to tears... I came across this particular story, and found it very heart rendering. 1. The story began when I was a child; I was a son of a poor family in Africa. We did not even have enough food. Whenever meal times came, mother would often give me her portion of rice. While she was removing her rice into my bowl, she would say "Eat this rice, son. I'm not hungry". That was Mother's First Lie. 2. When I was growing up, my persevering mother gave her spare time to go fishing in a river near our house, she hoped that from the fish she caught, she could gave me a little bit of nutritious food for my growth. After fishing, she would cook some fresh fish soup, which raised my appetite. While I was eating the soup, mother would sit beside me and eat the rest of the fish, which was still on the bone of the fish I had eaten. My heart was touched when I saw that. I then used my chopstick and gave the other fish to her. But she immediately refused and said "Eat this fish, son. I don't really like fish." That was Mother's Second Lie. 3. Then, when I was in Junior High School...... to fund my studies, mother went to an economic enterprise to bring some used-match boxes that would need to be stuck together. It gave her some money to cover our needs. As the winter came, I woke up from my sleep and looked at my mother who was still awake, supported by a little candlelight and with perseverance she would continue the work of sticking some used-match boxes. I said, "Mother, go to sleep, it's late, tomorrow morning you still have to go to work." Mother smiled and said "Go to sleep, dear. I'm not tired." That was Mother's Third Lie. 4. The final term arrived.......mother asked for leave from work in order to accompany me. While the sun was starting to shine strongly, my persevering mother waited for me under the heat for several hours. As the bell rang, which indicated that the final exam had finished, mother immediately welcomed me and poured me a cup of tea that she had brought in a flask. Seeing my mother covered with perspiration, I at once gave her my cup and asked her to drink too. Mother said "Drink, son. I'm not thirsty ! " That was Mother's Fourth Lie. 5. After the death of my father due to illness, my poor mother had to play her role as a single parent. She had to fund our needs alone. Our family's life was more complicated. No days without suffering. Our family's condition was getting worse, a kind uncle who lived near our house assisted now and then. Our neighbours, often advised my mother to marry again. But mother was stubborn and didn't take their advice; she said "I don't need love." That was Mother's Fifth Lie. 6. After I had finished my studies and got a job, it was the time for my old mother to retire. But she didn't want to; she would go to the marketplace every morning, just to sell some vegetables to fulfill her needs. I, who worked in another city, often sent her some money to help her, in fulfilling her needs, but she would not accept the money. At times, she even sent the money back to me. She said "I have enough money." That was Mother's Sixth Lie. 7. After graduating with a Bachelors Degree, I then continued to do a Masters Degree. It was funded by a company through a scholarship program, from a famous University in America. I finally worked in the company. With a good salary, I intended to bring my mother to enjoy her life in America. But my lovely mother didn't want to bother her son. She said to me, "I'm not use to it." That was Mother's Seventh Lie. 8. In her old age, mother got stomach cancer and had to be hospitalized. I, who lived miles away, across the ocean, went home to visit my dearest mother. She lay in weakness on her bed after having an operation. Mother, who looked so old, was staring at me in deep thought. She tried to spread her smile on her face...but it was a noticeable effort. It was clear that the disease had weakened mother's body. She looked so frail and weak. I stared at my mother with tears flowing. My heart was hurt,….. so hurt, seeing my mother in that condition. But mother with the little strength she had, said "Don't cry, my dear. I'm not in pain." That was Mother's Eighth Lie. After saying her eighth sweet lie, my Dearest mother closed her eyes forever ! Also, there is not even one caste related quote in Gurbani which restricts us from getting married from the same caste/tribe. The knowledge I gained from Guru Granth Sahib’s study tells me that Guru Sahib has clear message to get rid of caste based prejudice not caste itself. Anyhow, caste based decisions not always healthy for the society. We cannot expect a good outcome from our decision if we think that girl/boy will remain forever together just because they are from the same caste/tribe background.   19. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh” The message “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh” is to be conveyed whenever two Sikhs meet each other. Guru Gobind Singh Ji has said, “My face will be towards that person who says it first. My back will be towards that person who says it afterwards. I will be in between both of them, if both of them says it together.” Hence, in order to spread the message of brotherhood, we should say Fateh together. The traditions set by Guru Sahibs, whether they are documented or not can be derived from Gurbani, provided we try to go in the depth of Gurbani. However, we are no body to alter, modify, change, and add in the Gurbani or basic Sikh traditions. We are not able to do any modification in Guru Granth Sahib, as this have been well documented, classified, and sealed by Guru Sahib. Since other traditions are not well documented, classified, and sealed by Guru Sahib, so we try to give all sorts of suggestion and modification. The basic reason for most of the misconcepts is that, in Gurbani, the terminology or the words used are those that were prevailing at that time. Many a words belonging to various languages prevailing at that time have been used in Gurbani. A limited number of new words have been added by Guru Sahibs, in Gurbani like, (Akaal purakh, waheguru, cahhdi kala, ). But Guru Sahibs have clearly given their own definition for all the words (prevailing at that time) used in Guru Granth sahib ji nth Sahib. Because of our limited knowledge of Gurbani, we use the definitions given by other sects or religions and try to apply that on Sikhism. This is the basic reason that we living in a confused state these days in many of the traditions. Unless we do not go in the depth of Gurbani and are not able to give solid reasons as quoted in Gurbani, we should not try to change the traditions. Let us leave it to the future generations to decide, till some justified reasons on the basis of Gurbani are found. We have completely forgotten the tradition of meeting each other by saying “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh”. Instead of that we have started the tradition of meeting each other by saying “Sat Sri Akal”.and some people say hi and hello Sat Sri Akal is the ending word of the slogan, “Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal”. This slogan is used in Sangat for the Chardi Kala ; to give courage for some achievements, conclusion of some program or function, etc. Now a day, even this slogan is some times being misused in Sangat. For example, when some preacher is informing about the decreasing standard of public, some one will say this slogan in Sangat, just to show his presence or otherwise, the reasons best know to him only. Let us try to understand the significance of “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh” according to Gurbani. The meaning of this slogan is that Khalsa belongs to the Waheguru and also the victory (Fateh) belongs to the Waheguru only. This is a very simple way of teaching the basics of Sikhism to common man. In Sikhism the word Waheguru is used to specify for God. One Universal Creator God. The Name Is Truth. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying, Beyond Birth, Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace (1) The further description about Waheguru and how to achieve it are given in Japu Ji sahib (jpujI swihb). The complete details about Waheguru and how to achieve it are given in Guru Granth Sahib (gurU grMQ swihb). For specifying the name of God, the word Akal Purkh (Akwl purKu) or Waheguru (vwihgurU) have been used in Sikhism. There are unlimited names by which Akal Purkh or Waheguru have been referred in Gurbani. According to the ancient traditions the names of God have been linked with some material, person, animal, etc. However, in Sikhism this concept of relating with some living being or material have not been used. But this is related to the state of mind or spirituality. Literal meaning of Waheguru can be done as (Waheguru = Wahe + Guru= Wah + Guru). (vwihgurU = vwih + gurU). When NAAM (nwmu) resides in one’s mind. Then one achieves the state of Sach Khand (sc KMif). Then an internal (inherent) praise and pleasure is developed in ones mind (AnMd), which we generally express in our common language by saying as, Wah Wah (vwh vwh). This state is achievable with the help of Guru only. Hence, a combination of these two Wah and Guru, have been used to call the name of God, as Waheguru. Similarly, there is no physical Guru (sbd) or physical follower (surq) in Sikhism. pvn ArMBu siqgur miq vylw ] sbdu gurU suriq Duin cylw ] (943, rwmklI, mÚ 1) From the air came the beginning. This is the age of the True Guru's Teachings. The Shabad is the Guru, upon whom I lovingly focus my consciousness; I am the chaylaa, the disciple. (943) Only physical body was changing from Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Guru Gobind Singh Ji. But the soul (joiq) Nanak, was same through out and now it is present in Guru Granth Sahib. Since, Khalsa belongs to the Waheguru. So if a person have achieved this state of mind. Then he does not have any difference with Waheguru as far as mental state is concerned. But mind you a person can never become Akal Purkh or Waheguru, which is an ultimate. He can only merge with Him like water mixes with the sea. That man, blessed by Guru's Grace, understands this way. O Nanak, he merges with the Lord of the Universe, like water with water. ||3||11|| (633) When a person becomes a Khalsa, then he does not have distinction between other human beings. He sees every one, as sons of same father. There is no difference of caste or creed. He sees the same light (joiq) in every one. The One God is our father; we are the children of the One God. You are our Guru. Listen, friends: my soul is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to You; O Lord, reveal to me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||1|| (611) These words also say that every part of Khalsa belongs to the Waheguru and you have nothing of your own. When one understands that every thing belongs to Him only. One loses his ego, does not have the greed to collect money and property by wrong means, tries to share his earning with others, sees all equally, spends some time for the welfare of society, etc. In other words he transforms him self into a Gurmukh (gurmuiK) automatically. He is always prepared to sacrifice for the Guru. I would cut my mind and body apart into pieces, and offer them all to You; I would burn myself in fire. ||4|| (757) The second part of this slogan says, “Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh”. That means if there is any victory or achievement, then that also belongs to the Waheguru only and not to that person who has achieved that. This slogans completely eliminates the ego from the person who is saying, as well as who is listening. Once ego is gone, then one can achieve any thing in life. God says, "If you reform yourself, you shall meet me, and meeting me, you shall be at peace. O Fareed, if you will be mine, the whole world will be yours."||95|| (1382) There is another psychological effect of using the word “Fateh”. When a person says the word “Fateh”, an inherent impression is created in his mind to always go for victory (Fateh),. This makes his habit, to always work hard to achieve his goal. Hence, the person always remains in “Chardi Kala”. This is the reason, why Sikhs could sacrifice for the sake of their religion and successful complete difficult task, which normal persons could not achieve. Guru Pyari Sadh Sangat Ji, please do not take the traditions started by Guru Sahib as lightly. All of them have got a great treasure hidden within them. They transform us from a normal person to a great soul automatically, without our knowing about that. Listening-even the blind find the Path. Because of our five senses (Eyes, Ears, Tongue, Nose and Skin), we are able to see and think to a limited extent only. That also depends how much of our self, we have offered to the teachings of Gurbani. So let us follow the teachings of Gurbani to achieve the ultimate aim of our life.   20. waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh Eight sweet lies of a mother: very hearttouching, it brought me to tears... I came across this particular story, and found it very heart rendering. 1. The story began when I was a child; I was a son of a poor family in Africa. We did not even have enough food. Whenever meal times came, mother would often give me her portion of rice. While she was removing her rice into my bowl, she would say "Eat this rice, son. I'm not hungry". That was Mother's First Lie. 2. When I was growing up, my persevering mother gave her spare time to go fishing in a river near our house, she hoped that from the fish she caught, she could gave me a little bit of nutritious food for my growth. After fishing, she would cook some fresh fish soup, which raised my appetite. While I was eating the soup, mother would sit beside me and eat the rest of the fish, which was still on the bone of the fish I had eaten. My heart was touched when I saw that. I then used my chopstick and gave the other fish to her. But she immediately refused and said "Eat this fish, son. I don't really like fish." That was Mother's Second Lie. 3. Then, when I was in Junior High School...... to fund my studies, mother went to an economic enterprise to bring some used-match boxes that would need to be stuck together. It gave her some money to cover our needs. As the winter came, I woke up from my sleep and looked at my mother who was still awake, supported by a little candlelight and with perseverance she would continue the work of sticking some used-match boxes. I said, "Mother, go to sleep, it's late, tomorrow morning you still have to go to work." Mother smiled and said "Go to sleep, dear. I'm not tired." That was Mother's Third Lie. 4. The final term arrived.......mother asked for leave from work in order to accompany me. While the sun was starting to shine strongly, my persevering mother waited for me under the heat for several hours. As the bell rang, which indicated that the final exam had finished, mother immediately welcomed me and poured me a cup of tea that she had brought in a flask. Seeing my mother covered with perspiration, I at once gave her my cup and asked her to drink too. Mother said "Drink, son. I'm not thirsty ! " That was Mother's Fourth Lie. 5. After the death of my father due to illness, my poor mother had to play her role as a single parent. She had to fund our needs alone. Our family's life was more complicated. No days without suffering. Our family's condition was getting worse, a kind uncle who lived near our house assisted now and then. Our neighbours, often advised my mother to marry again. But mother was stubborn and didn't take their advice; she said "I don't need love." That was Mother's Fifth Lie. 6. After I had finished my studies and got a job, it was the time for my old mother to retire. But she didn't want to; she would go to the marketplace every morning, just to sell some vegetables to fulfill her needs. I, who worked in another city, often sent her some money to help her, in fulfilling her needs, but she would not accept the money. At times, she even sent the money back to me. She said "I have enough money." That was Mother's Sixth Lie. 7. After graduating with a Bachelors Degree, I then continued to do a Masters Degree. It was funded by a company through a scholarship program, from a famous University in America. I finally worked in the company. With a good salary, I intended to bring my mother to enjoy her life in America. But my lovely mother didn't want to bother her son. She said to me, "I'm not use to it." That was Mother's Seventh Lie. 8. In her old age, mother got stomach cancer and had to be hospitalized. I, who lived miles away, across the ocean, went home to visit my dearest mother. She lay in weakness on her bed after having an operation. Mother, who looked so old, was staring at me in deep thought. She tried to spread her smile on her face...but it was a noticeable effort. It was clear that the disease had weakened mother's body. She looked so frail and weak. I stared at my mother with tears flowing. My heart was hurt,….. so hurt, seeing my mother in that condition. But mother with the little strength she had, said "Don't cry, my dear. I'm not in pain." That was Mother's Eighth Lie. After saying her eighth sweet lie, my Dearest mother closed her eyes forever ! The farmer looked him over and said, "Son, go stand out in that field. I'm going to release three bulls, one at a time. If you can catch the tail of any one of the three bulls, you can marry my daughter." The young man stood in the pasture awaiting the first bull. The barn door opened and out ran the biggest, meanest-looking bull he had ever seen. He decided that one of the next bulls had to be a better choice than this one, so he ran over to the side and let the bull pass through the pasture out the back gate. The barn door opened again. Unbelievable. He had never seen anything so big and fierce in his life. It stood pawing the ground, grunting, slinging slobber as it eyed him. Whatever the next bull was like, it had to be a better choice than this one. He ran to the fence and let the bull pass through the pastre, out the back gate. The door opened a third time. A smile came across his face. This was the weakest, scrawniest little bull he had ever seen. This one was his bull. As the bull came running by, he positioned himself just right and jumped at just the exact moment. He grabbed... but the bull had no tail! Life is full of opportunities. Some will be easy to take advantage of, some will be difficult. But once we let them pass (often in hopes of something better), those opportunities may never again be available.
