  1. chuckle??? LAUGH?/? is marriage a joke for you??? muhaha... let's see if you're laughing when Bik marries you to Sadam Hussein or something!!

and mr. singh.... you shuld stay away from him NOW!! i doubt he discriminates against the younguns.. after all, a matchmaker doesn't let any obstacle interfere.. he'll arrange you with some 12 year old for the future

  2. Khalsa Veeer, quebec is really not that bad... I livein ontario, and i go to quebec very often, and the Sikh youth in Montreal are amazing people, and very very accepting.. Through the years, they've reached out to many youth, and samagams in Montreal are something else :) Although i agree about certain aspects (for example, a private school in quebec hsa the same rule that France wants to impose), it's isolated cases.

In my city, every year at Vaisakhi, Gurupurab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and certain other times during the years, there is quite a respectable amount of coverage on local newscasts, and there's is a pretty good image for Sikhs.. I can't comment on Vancouver, as that's the other side of hte country for me.. but, in ontario, and in mostly quebec, it's very welcoming. People either don't know, don't care, or know and care in a good way. there really are no major troubles

As far as quebec, i don't know if you guys remember, but there was a little singh who was threatened to get expelled due to his kirapn.. well he won that case, and there is alot more education in quebec and tolerance regarding sikhs..

  3. how come we're so quick to disregard these things?

what if in a dream or something, Mel Gibson did in fact feel that God told him to direct this movie? Read that thread about the young boy and the old man who both felt they met god at the park. There's so many forms as to how God affects you, how do you know it's not true?

  4. And it happens again...

What could have been a ptoentially interesting discussiong has turned into jatha-bashing and taking sides.

agreed, the comment "the Taksal would become a joke" was WAYYY outta line byu CFD..... but that wasn't even the main message in his post.. so S1ngh veerji turned it into a discussion about jathas because that is what he got outta CFD's post... whatever, that's fine, but let's move on... let's look at what CFD was tring to say, rather than one irresponsible comment.

Different stories about the same Sant, both seemingly exaggerated, should they be beileved or not?

Stories that a Sant-Sipahi is coming back to us.

I'm indifferent on it, thats why i didn't post before... but sometimes, we as the reader have to be responsible enough to identify and ignore the irresponsibilities in people's posts.

hopefully we'll get back to the topic..

  5. BalWinder SIngh ji...

    a Deep Singh ji said:

The solution to this problem is NOT to stop women from expressing their 'Khushi' or emothions

Does by dancing on a stage...trying to produce lust within men...express their Khushi rolleyes.gif

C'mon..oke You can dance like a SISTER..thats COMPLETLY another hing..like Gidda type...but on Marriages it USUALLY NOT GIDDA TYP

..as above they ARE banning liquir as well

    JKaur ji and Vicky ji..

I think some progression is being made, and shortly SEEMS like they're gonna begin with that as well.

As Gabroo likes to say -

'And yr 2004 has just begun :) '

    BHull chukk maaf :@

    Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

    Waheguroo Jee

    Kee Fateh!!

    whoaaaa

so girls have NOTHING better to do than to "incite lust in men" when they dance?

  6. seems liek we've forgotten about this issue

i found an article today that has a pretty nice representation of Sikhs considering the length of the article:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3474673.stm

    French MPs back headscarf ban

French MPs have voted by a massive majority to ban the Islamic headscarf and all other overt religious symbols from state schools. The bill was passed by 494 votes to 36. It now goes to the upper house, the Senate, for approval.

The wearing of Jewish skullcaps, large Christian crosses and probably Sikh turbans would also be banned.

About 70% of French people back the controversial law - and even 40% of Muslim women, according to some polls.

Most French MPs backed the bill on the grounds that it protected the secularity of the French state, by keeping religion out of the classroom.

    'Intolerant'

The bill also has the guarded backing of one of the highest authorities in Sunni Islam - the Grand Sheikh of Egypt's al-Azhar mosque.

Speaking after meeting French Interior Minister Nicholas Sarkozy in Cairo in December, Mohammed Sayed Tantawi said Muslim women may ignore the obligation to wear a headscarf if the law where they lived demanded so.

But some French MPs, backed by Muslim leaders and rights groups, warn the proposed law could be seen as intolerant and undermine the integration of France's Muslims.

Already, the prospect of the new law has squandered much of the goodwill President Jacques Chirac built up in Muslim countries when he opposed the war in Iraq, says the BBC's Caroline Wyatt in Paris.

Saudi Arabia's top cleric has accused the proposed French law of violating the human rights it claims to be defending.

The Indian government has reportedly told France to handle the ban with "sensitivity" and the issue may well be raised during this week's visit by French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin.

India is home to the Sikh faith, whose male followers are required to keep their long hair wrapped in a turban.

    Protests

There have been protests against the law in India and amongst France's 7,000 strong Sikh community.

The International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights has also warned the French government against the ban, as has US-based advisory group, the Commission on International Religious Freedom.

Some French MPs claim young Muslim women are being forced to wear the headscarf, though the few hundred who have turned out for demonstrations against the new law say they wear it of their own free will.

Unspoken in this entire debate is the government's need to boost its own popularity, and combat a rise in support for the far-right National Front, ahead of key regional elections next month, Caroline Wya

  7. ok.. lets use "compare and contrast"

    1.

Gianni Ji in the states to Bhai Randheer Singh:

Bhai Randheer Singh wrongfully put in jail. Goes on hunger strikes, partly to show innocence, becomes much much closer with Vaaheguru through constant prayer

Gianni Ji... not sure whether or not he was wrongfully accused, went on hunger strikes, maybe to show innocence? Not known if he conitnued his daily paath and such.

    2.

    Gianni Ji vs. Malik/Bagri

We're quick to assume that he was put in jail for the reason that's stated, but we say that if Malik and Bagri are put in jail it'll be wrongful! i believe the thread itself said that even North American Judicial systems weren't good enough to truly find the truth. so we're going by that Malik and Bagri would be wrongfully accused for their alleged actions, but Giani Ji is guilty because he was found guilty in American Courts...

just a couple things that came across my mind

  8. hmm... he was fake?!

i'm not sure how to react, cuz the message is still useful.. before he got all detailed his message was pretty good.. i mean.. like.. if our Shri Guru Granth Sahib Jee says that this is what must be done to be a sikh, and if their Hindu texts say the same in reference to hindus, then shouldn't we be able to understand that someone acting out of that order, in their respective religions, is not a sikh, or in the case that preetma kumar was talking about, is not a hindu?

that was one madddddddd run-on sentence, but i mean like... how can our characterization of a non-sikh exist, but the characterization of a non-hindu can not..

  9. augh.... i dunno... how come nothing can be looked upon as good?

how come we always refer to khalistan as the result of blood and death?

how come khalistan can't be a gorvernmental understanding and realization that many people on this board have made?

why is anything even remotely good, automatically shut down?

i understand we hafta be cautious, but sometimes i wonder if we're just being ignorant. like, we should be taking one good thing and running with it.

    progress isn't:

a banana seller buying one banana, selling that one banana, and then buying 1 billion bananas the next day

    progress is:

a banana seeler buying one banana, selling it, buying two the next day, and then slowly increasing..

we gotta be like THAT too! we gotta take the good and prgoress with it.. if we can't make our own progress, then we'll never recieve the progress we're looking for..

that's my opinion... feel free to shut it down.......

  10. theres a very very interesting discussion at akj.org about a group of hindu people who attacked a sikh jatha. so of course, everyone was saying like, all hindus hate sikhs, and stuff like that..

there's this one guy, preetum kumar, and he's hindu, but he's got many amritdhari friends, according to him, and many muslim friends as well. he's done lots of research on many religions, and he essentially says the same thing as the article. his main focal point is that sikhs say hindus are bad after 1984, essentially due to indira gandhi. he replied by saying that, by definition, she's not a hindu because hindu's are not to commit acts of violence on anyone.

this, of course, got a huge backlash from the majority of the respondants at akj.org, and they insisted she was hindu, and that so were all of those who committed the dastardly acts in delhi.

p.k's response was saying that because of a small percentage of people, you've branded hindus as something they're basically not. he said basicaly as a rhetorical question:

"was kps gill a sikh? despite having a sikh name?

    was ajit sandhu a sikh??

was beant singh chief minister a sikh?

    was general brar a sikh??

    was badal a sikh??

can u asnwer yes to any of these?? if not then how was indra ghandi a hindu if her actions were agianst what hindu sacred texts teach?"

his point was that we're so quick to generalize... we always say that a guy with a sikh name who drinks and parties is not a sikh, but a hindu who commits violence must be a hindu because he/she showed anger towards sikhs..... it's the exact same thing, but we look at it biasedly

because of the acts committed against us. i'm not saying that's wrong, but it's definitely not right... i, for one, definitely learnt alot from that thread....

  11. haha these are fun! i just took the "shape test" hahaha

    Down to Earth . . . Well-Balanced . . . Harmonious

You value a natural style and love that which is uncomplicated.

People admire you because you have both feet planted firmly on the

ground and they can depend on you. You give those who are close to

you security and space. You are perceived as being warm and human.

You reject everything that is garish and trite. You tend to be

skeptical toward the whims of fashion trends. For you, clothing has

to be practical and unobtrusively elegant.

(for the record, i chose theone that looks like a nice warm cup of coffee)

  12. i did another one, the one aobut your favorite fruit...

    You have selected mango.

A mango lover is a personality to be reckoned with; quite often you are a person who has quite fixed ideas, and influencing you is no easy task. You tend to be an extremist with strong likes and dislikes; and at times even like to control a situation. You enjoy getting involved in something that presents mental challenge. Strong as you may be, you are like a kitten when you are with your partner. You accommodate the love of your life, and make up for all the strong will elsewhere!

if you press back at the end of the quiz, you can see more of the funky little tests

  13. oh lord... here's the beginning of the end of japmans's demise on sikhsangat hahahaha

You are Peppe le Pew (without the smell).

You are a lover. Romance, flowers, and wine are all you need to

enjoy yourself. You are serious about all commitments. A family

person. You call your Mom every Sunday, and never forget a Birthday.

Don't let your passion for romance get confused with the real thing.
