  1. if a kirpan was that straight forward to everyone, can someone tell me why it is curved??? and whos the one who said "Pointy end in"? If it was that ez why is the Kirpan not straight like a dagger?

I dont know about neone else, but the sharpest side on my kirpan is actually the inside curve on it like for example if i wanna slash someones hand off i wud slice it off with the inside curve of the kirpan because thats what that bit is designed for and its a VERY tough part of the kirpan.

U say the kirpan is str8 forward? I disagree with that to the max. I think ure thinking doesnt expand as far as it shud if u think like that!!! grin.gif

  2. this forum is FANTASTIC by the way jio - well done to the moderators.

i agree that the Kirpan is a symbol but i dont think its main purpose is to be just a symbol. I believe it is there for the Singh/ni to use to fight against tyranny and opression. I dont believe that there is no need to be trained coz i believe there is. Its like how wud an army defend its country and battle against another army if they havent had training on how to use an AK47 or how to use other weapons. U gotta be prepared is my point. Shaster Vidhiya is shaster = weapons and vidhiya = knowledge and we are Sikhs all our lives which mean we never stop learning and we shud strive for as much knowledge as possible because it might help us later on in life and shaster vidhiya will give u loadsa knowledge about weapons.

  3. ya true but wot if all these gatka classes or shaster vidhiya classes that go on nowadays almost everywhere where theres a lot of sangat, is like a calling?

Its like this joke i once heard... theres this massive flood in a city and everyones drowning. A rescue helicopter tries to help this one man who is drowning fast but he doesnt want the help. He believes so strongly in Maharaj he shouts out "I dont need saving! GOD WILL SAVE ME!"........................ .................. but he drowns and dies anyway. He gets to God on the other side and he asks Him "Why didnt you rescue me and save me when i was drowning? Ive always been a man of God?" And God simply replies "U <banned word filter activated>! Who do u think sent the helicopter?!"

U see sumtimes we get a calling from Maharaj but we try to look beyond Him.

  4. i dont agree with the point thats been made about the fact that the beholder should just be able to use the kirpan minimally and that it wud be enough.

in my opinion, everyone who takes Amrit should be told to train how tp use the kirpan PROPERLY - i mean imagine this yeh, someone on the street is getting raped or sumthing and this person screams to you to help them and to defend them but u turn round to them and say "sorry... i dont know how to use my kirpan properly..."

And there are a LOT of shasters out there everyone should have knowledge of. How many people in this cybersangat can say that they would be able to fight in real bloody battles??

I think minimal knowledge of how to use a Kirpan is DEFINITELY not enough...

I wanna know, wot point is having a Kirpan if you dont know how to use it? Dont get me wrong, im not saying there is no point to it. But i wanna know how one can defend themselves with a Kirpan if they have never trained how to use it? There are LOADS of people who have taken amrit but dont train how to use the Kirpan.

The reason why this topic has been bugging me is that i had a dream last night that i was in a situation where i needed to pull out my kirpan to defend myself and my mother however when i took it out of its sheath, i didnt know what to do with it and i felt so stupid that i had this weapon which could save me but i didnt know how....

    Anybody shed any light?

Sorry for nething said out of context.

  8. someone on the earlier posts said gatka is the best form of martial arts in the world... WRONG. Its the best form of display martial arts in the world. I dont mean to offend neone but with gatka, u cant really defend urself properly. Gatka is too frilly. The real Sikh martial art is Shastar Vidhya - dont be illuded that gatka is the best coz ur setting urself up for a fall.

Hope no one gets offended by that but our Gurus survived through the art of shastar vidhya (Shastar = Weapons, Vidhya = knowledge) and with us being his Sikhs, we should also adopt the same training...!
