  1. Did you know that Shaheed Jinda/Sukha carried out the biggest Bank Robbery in Asia's history

    :o

is bank robbery acceptable behaviour for respected gursikhs?

I heard that Guru Gobind Singh ji were 5f 4 tall...

i've heard the same, i think it is from a talk done by Yogi Bhajan, i don't know of any historical source though.

  2. .... that when Guru Amar Das came to meet Guru Angad Dev, Guru Amar Das was 62 years old and Guru Angad Dev was 37 year of age.

wouldn't it be more accurate to say when Amar Das met Guru Angad Dev... since Amar Das was not yet Guru? :)

sorry, someone pointed this out to me recently and i guess they're right. the jot was only in one body at a time, so only one could be called "Guru".

once again, sorry to hijack. :)

  3. No I meant by that saying is we are no more better sikhs than any if we don't give regards to other parcharaks, hence, cos I is a singh! But obviously sister your avastha and your sikhi is the highest, so bhul chuk maaf.

is it necessary to end every post with a shot at me?

please don't say these things. i'm nothing. a dog. an insect. a worm. i know i am filled with vikars, please don't pretend otherwise.

  4. I think they just host a number of articles from different groups so people doing research can gather information. The 5 extras are clarly labelled "Namdhri Gurus", not Sikh Gurus.

The article quoted by Mehtab Singh is true and verifiable with court records from Aurangzeb's era.

yes, i agree that the article quoted is well documented.

i was simply saying that i do not agree with much of the "information" on their site, or their treatment of the sikh gurus, gursikhs, jathas, etc.

we have a lot of sources available to us. we should use those we trust most. :)

  5. I think you have missed my point! What am trying to say if anyone from another faith gives katha on Sikhi(the actual parcharak of gurbani) would it hurt your ears to listen and take the teachings of Gurbani from what they quote, it would not do any harm to me , will it to you?

hey, i'm not stopping anyone. learn gurbani from whatever source you feel comfortable with. :)

Is it because you say "I is a sikh" lol (sorry)

um, i have no idea what you're talking about. can you give me some reference to this apparent joke made at my expense?

i didn't mean to insult your swami ji. i certainly didn't insult you. is there any reason to insult your sister in this manner?

  6. Swami Ji spoke at the Barsi of Sant Kartar Singh Ji Bhindranwale and trust me, they are not like Osho.

Anyway, at least hear them once before making irrational judgements.

thanks for this info. he sounds interesting.

i don't think people are making irrational judgments, rather asking why swamis are necessary to teach sikhi. :)

But thats what you got to get over, you remember our living Guru, Guru Granth Sahib Ji, it has bani from other people from different faiths. i.e. kabir ji, who was a suffi saint, so why can't we accept teachings and katha from other faiths who have knowledge of Sikhi, maybe they could teach us a few things. End of the day we going to be in love of the teachings not from where its come from.

I dont believe in cults so I aint promoting that in any case.

you're missing a crucial point here... everything in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is gurbani. do you give Kabir ji's other writing equal importance? do you read Fareed ji or Bhagat Ravidass ji's other writing to learn how to be Sikhs?

i agree that Guru was incredibly insightful to add the bani of people from different faiths. but when Guru Gobind Singh ji said "Guru Manyo Granth", all of that stopped being different faiths and started being Guru.

basically, what i'm getting at is that i already have a Guru. i don't need another one. :) and i find a lot of these travelling lecturers to be self made godmen trying to gather a following.

.....and theres me thinking that Gurdwara is for all religions, caste or creed....I was obviously wrong.

no, you were not wrong at all. Gurdwara is for everyone. Gurbani is also for everyone. but that doesn't mean we need to give people who can talk about Gurbani a cult following...

my comment about it not happening in Gurdwara was unnecessary, and i apologize for that.

but the fact that we have to hire people from other faiths to explain our own faith to us disturbs me for some reason.

  9. i dare one of u yodhe to go and listen to the entire katha

    all of it

Iv already listened to one of his katha...He did it on the importance of naam in Sikhi...He was like Osho Rajneesh..a non-sikh explaining Sikhi better than some of our own parcharaaks..

Oh and he's doing a programme at Soho Rd Gurdwara aswell not just Nanaksar Guru ghars.. :)

i hope he's not like "osho" in other ways! :o

it disturbs me that people think a pervert can explain sikhi better than a sikh. :(

  10. The only things that I have never understood about religion are the following

1 - How can people from Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism all be sent to the same heaven, because the first two believe in an eternal heaven/hell and the last two believe in reincarnation? If all the religions were divinely inspired wouldn't they all preach the same thing about the after life?

2 - Did people who worshipped Zeus and the other Greek Gods have a chance at getting to heaven?

These are serious questions and I would just like some clarification, thanks

    what is heaven?

how are greek gods any different than hindu gods?

    why does it matter?

everyone should follow the path that inspires them to sing God's praises. there's no reason to worry so much about others, focus on what YOU need to do to realize God. :)

    raag aasaa mehlaa 1.

    Raag Aasaa, First Mehl:

    chhi-a ghar chhi-a gur chhi-a updays.

There are six schools of philosophy, six teachers, and six sets of teachings.

gur gur ayko vays anayk. ((1))

But the Teacher of teachers is the One, who appears in so many forms. ((1))

baabaa jai ghar kartay keerat ho-ay.

O Baba: that system in which the Praises of the Creator are sung -

    so ghar raakh vadaa-ee to-ay. ((1)) rahaa-o.

follow that system; in it rests true greatness. ((1)(Pause))

    visu-ay chasi-aa gharhee-aa pahraa thitee vaaree maahu ho-aa.

The seconds, minutes and hours, days, weeks and months,

    sooraj ayko rut anayk.

    and the various seasons originate from the one sun;

naanak kartay kay kaytay vays. ((2)(2))

O Nanak, in just the same way, the many forms originate from the Creator. ((2)(2))

  11. I was just wondering what people think about the Rehat Maryada?

I have been reading about it and have discovered that it was written after the Guru's were around - in fact the first part was written 10 years after Guru Gobind Singh Ji had died. It also contradicts one of the main teachings of Sikhi - the equality of man and woman - one of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's main teachings.

what do i think about it? i think that i'm required to follow it to the best of my ability.

there is currently only one Panthic rehat maryada, compiled by scholars over 10+ years. and it was written in the first part of the 20th century, so it was a couple hundred years after Guru Gobind Singh ji. :) however, it took into account all of the historical rehatnamas.

i don't see a lot of inequality in it... the fact that women are exempted from wearing dastaars and the fact that a man can marry more than one woman are the only two things that strike me as particularly sexist. there's also a lot about taking care of one's daughter, but that's more indian culture than sexism.

can you please point out the offensive points so that we may better address your question?

  12. this is so wrong - anyone go to these gurudwaras?

if u go to the gurudwara - ask the committe to cancel and explain why - if they dont let up - make it clear that u protest and do so on the day

it's not a gurdwara, it's a dera. nanaksar usually preaches unity and tolerance among religions. i've seen a sindhi doing keertan in a topi in their dera. i've seen muslims attending diwan there.

it's their thing. if it happened in a gurdwara, i'd be more worried.

  13. Its true that there is lots of khuuaari among ragis and granthis these days, having said that if some raagis come to my house for a stay, I will treat them as fellow amritdharis and will try my best to serve them. I will give them the best room of my house to stay, I will respect any differences in rehit maryada I have with them and would never debate with them about it.

    agreed!

also, invite them to do paath with your family, they may be able to teach you something. :)

  14. WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

I have a message to the Sangat

Guru Gobind Singh Jee has given us Bana as one of the 5 pillars of Sikhism

BANA bani seva simran and shastar

so what exactly is "bana"? when Guru Gobind Singh ji told Mata Bhag Kaur to take care with her clothing (she had such high avastha she forgot about material things and her clothes were worn to shreds), all he said was to always wear kachhera and dastaar.

    who defines bana?

old photos and drawings of nihungs show a very short chola and huge kachhera. i don't see any pajami...

    post-18673-1220026930.jpg

i don't think i'd be comfortable running about in a short top and kachhera all exposed. :) i'm worried aboout my modesty... does that mean i'm not a good Sikh?

and what about shoes? in Guru ji's time people wore jutti with big curly toes, or wooden sandles, or went bare foot. which do you wear? none are particularly comfortable when you're walking the pavement in the big city.

as i understand it, bana is dastaar and 5ks. trust me, as a woman running around in a 10-15 meters dastaar, i definitely stand out!

i've actually ordered proper bana, but it hasn't come yet. thing is, i'll be wearing pajami and a chola that goes below my knees. is that good enough?
