15 January 2015 - Bhai Bagicha Singh Waraich and Bhai Gurpreet Singh Guri Hans, key co-ordinators of Bhai Gurbaskh Singh Khalsa's 'Bandi Singh Rehai Morcha', have cleared the false rumours being propagated on social media over the last 24 hours that Baba Ranjit Singh Khalsa Dhadrianwale denied space for the Singh's to continue the hunger strike from Gurdwara Parmeshar Dwar Sahib in Patiala. Gursikhs involved in the campaign who visited Parmeshar Dwar yesterday 14 January 2015 have categorically dismissed any such rumours as totally false information and have commended Baba Ranjit Singh Khalsa for being one of the very few in Punjab who have openly supported this campaign from the very first day to free those Sikh prisoners who have already served their legal sentences. Unbiased Sikhs who truly feel pain for the Khalsa Panth must always form an opinion by assessing each individual and each organisation after careful and close examination based on the individuals and organisations actions based on fact, as opposed to hearsay. Those who walk on the path of truth are often not favourable in the eyes of those who they speak against. For that reason, false information is disseminated into the community to create confusion and break trust. Sikhs must beware of such information before taking steps to propagate biased and/or unconfirmed information that can damage the strategy of the nation internally. Sikhs must not play into the hands of those anti-Panthic forces who continuously strive to weaken the build-up of any strategic unity that certain Panthic Parcharaks are tirelessly working day and night to create. The situation is not always as it seems and many things are not always disclosed publicly. Bhai Gurbaksh’s hunger strike for the past 64 days has ended today, after Sikh sangat worldwide sent petitions and phone calls to end the strike. The outpouring of support for Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa came to end the strike as soon as he was taken to the hospital. Numerous petitions were being circulated around the world and immense support and outcry by overseas sangat has caused the hunger strike to officially end. Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa is now in high spirits (chardi kala) and has been taken to his home in Haryana by his son and family. The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Committee also arrived and officially ended the strike. The hukam of the Sangat was accepted by Bhai Gurbaksh has no one can deny the Sangat as it’s roop of the Guru. Even, Guru Gobind Singh Ji had to accept hukam of the Panj Piyare and so the hukam came for Bhai Gurbaksh by the sangat to end the hunger strike. Bhai Gurbaksh’s total days of hunger strike is 100 days and it’s only due to him that Sikhs worldwide even got to know about the Sikh political prisoners kept in jails longer then there terms. If it wasn’t for Bhai Gurbaksh’s hunger strikes no one would have known about Sikh prisoners and so much pressure would have never been built. Bhai Gurbaksh’s efforts deserve a salute and Sikhs worldwide are joyous his strike has officially ended. Pressure on the Gurdwara committee came in the form of threats to their blood relations and threats to remove them from teaching and police posts.

CHANDIGARH (January 13, 2015)—According to the Punjab government, they have met with the Minister for Home Affairs and written to their counterparts in other States, to seek the release of Sikh political prisoners who have served more than the minimum term. Yet despite all they have said and done, today they published adverts in Punjab’s leading newspapers, in their own words: ‘to dispel the myths surrounding the issue of Sikh political prisoners’. Below is a summary of the ‘question & answer’ style newspaper advertisement, placed by the Badal government: 1. According to them, “there are no prisoners in Punjab who have served their sentence, waiting to be released. In Punjab, any such prisoners are released without delay.” 2. The Punjab government stressed, life imprisonment means ‘for life’. 3. Life-term prisoners are eligible to be considered for release depending on certain requirements, after they have served a minimum term of 14, 18 or 20 years. 4. It is not a ‘given’ that the prisoner will be prematurely released but rather, State governments can grant premature release at their discretion on the basis of rehabilitation and each case is examined upon its merits. 5. The Punjab government states they don’t have the power to release the 7 Singh’s Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa is campaigning for; Gurmeet Singh, Shamsher Singh & Lakhwinder Singh fall under the jurisdiction of Chandigarh, Varyaam Singh is under Uttar Pardesh, Gurdeep Singh Khaira is under Karnataka, Lal Singh is under Gujarat and Professor Bhullar is under the control of the Delhi state government. 6. The Punjab government apparently ‘analysed’ the one year old list, compiled by Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur of 120 Sikh political prisoners, and pulled it apart saying it was factually incorrect. The government did however concede there are in fact 2 prisoners Baaz Singh and Hardeep Singh (2 of the 7 prisoners in Punjab’s jails who have completed their minimum terms, whose cases were reported by Sikh Relief last month). This is an alarming contradiction to the governments claims made in point one – “there are no prisoners in Punjab who have served their sentences, waiting to be released. In Punjab, any such prisoners are released without delay.” The government’s excuse in answer to this – “we are restrained from exercising power of remission of life convicts under the 2014 Supreme Court ruling”. 7. The advert ends by vowing that the Punjab government will ‘soon’ file an application in the Supreme Court of India against the restraining order issued to the States. Badal’s government promises to ‘continue raising’ the issue of Sikh prisoners with the Centre and other State governments concerned. It is clear, the Badal government denies to recognise the ‘political’ status of these Sikh prisoners and deals with the issue as if it were ordinary prisoners requiring only legal considerations. By taking a political approach to the issue, legal avenues can be found. In India, it is theoretically correct that a life sentence means entire ‘life’. However, as reaffirmed by the Punjab government in their advert, the State does have the prerogative to grant early release to those who have completed their minimum mandatory sentence, but why is it not being exercised to release Sikh political prisoners? Instead, eligible Sikh political prisoners are denied their right to have their cases considered for early release without discrimination. The government also fails to explain how ex-Inspector Gurmeet Pinky was released after serving only 8 years of a life sentence or how DSP Swaran Dass was released after serving only 5 years of a life sentence. One set of law is applied to Sikhs who cannot even be released after serving over 25 years and another law applied to human rights abusers. The advert openly belittles the work of human rights lawyer, Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, in compiling an ever changing list of Sikh political prisoners. By using a year old version and stating the whole 120 prisoners on the list are names of those who have completed their minimum sentences, they have indulged in wrongful propaganda. Advocate Manjhpur has made several updated versions of the original list and clearly sets out the different categories of prisoner. Manjhpur says, “they are using the older list irresponsibly without consulting me” and he has issued an open letter in response, which sends a fitting reply to the governments claims. The government has used the advert to send out misinformation. For example, Baaz Singh, Hardeep Singh, Dilbagh Singh and Swaran Singh are in Punjab’s jails and had completed their minimum sentences before the Supreme Court stay came into force. In Baaz Singh’s case he should have been considered for early release six years before the Supreme Court order of July 2014. Yet, the Punjab government claims to release any such prisoners “without delay”. The Punjab government hides behind the Supreme Court order restraining their use of remission, but there is no such bar on granting other relief. Other options available are: reprieve, pardon, suspension and commutation of sentence. At the very least, Sikh political prisoners should be entitled to regular parole leave as granted to others. Last night Singhs at Lakhnaur Sahib had to pack their bags and travel to Delhi. Early morning they went around to authorities for permission to sit on Hungerstrike.They got permission, did Ardas and started. Bentiya were did to Delhi Sangat to reach there and sit with them, support them else they would be arrested. WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT NAME OF BHAI GURBAKSH SINGH KHALSA IS ENOUGH TO INVITE POLICE ACTION AND CORDONS. Soon after elections in Delhi were announced. Police detained Singhs and asked them to leave Jantar Mantar site. They were released ONLY after they agreed to leave Jantar Mantar Strike. Singhs left from police station and are presently resting at Gurudwara Rakabganj Sahib. They are tired from days and 3 of them are on Hunger strike. Now what can be done - Governments of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi are against any type of Hunger strike Morcha in their states. It is ONLY Punjab where Singhs will find support , that too ONLY when Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa himself reaches the Morcha. First - We have to keep this in mind- Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa is the face of this Morcha, he is the moving figure behind this Sangharsh. He is an Icon for millions. His call, his message will bring Sangat to Morcha and on streets. None of other Singhs will get same support. So we need Bhai Sahib back soon. Every action needs to be sanctioned by Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa. Second - Political Parties of Delhi, including AAP and Akali Dal (Sarna) have till tomorrow morning to decide on whether they will support our Singhs or not. AAP leaders like Jarnail Singh and Sardar Phoolka must stand with Singhs if they are with Panth. DSGMC of Manjeet Singh GK and Manjinder Singh Sirsa also needs to decide their course of action soon, whether they stand with Panth or with their Alliance partner BJP. Third - Gurudwara Committees of Delhi and Punjab, Panthak Jathebandis, Social Organizations, Sampardas, Missionary Colleges, Deras of Sants who came to support Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa at Lakhnaur Sahib MUST RISE TO THE OCASSION. Is there NO ONE in Entire Punjab or Delhi who will rise and give place for Hunger Strike to continue ? According to information available with Sikh24, the call received a huge response in many of the districts including Sri Amritsar Sahib, Patiala, Tarn Taran, and Gurdaspur. Unless someone can correct me, I have not seen any of the of the 'main' Jatheybandies (India factions) take side with Bhai Sahib officially. Yes individuals from AKJ Australia, a few DDT and Nihang Singhs have spoken out in support but the leaders have remained silent. The condition of activist Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, who was shifted to a hospital here for check-up after he has been on fast for nearly two months, is stable, a senior doctor said today. Khalsa, who has been on an indefinite fast for the past nearly two months demanding the release of Sikh prisoners, was admitted to Civil hospital here yesterday for a medical check-up after his health condition deteriorated. Civil Surgeon Dr Venod Gupta today said that Khalsa's ultrasound, X-ray and a few other tests were conducted this morning and most of the tests were found to be normal. He said that his condition is "stable" and for the time being glucose is being administered to him. Meanwhile, popular Punjabi singer Harbhajan Singh Mann reached the Civil hospital to meet Gurubaksh Singh and remained with him for about an hour. Some leaders of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee also came to meet Singh in the hospital. Besides, some leaders of various Sikh organisations from different parts of Haryana also reached the hospital to meet him. Heavy police force has been deployed outside the hospital and nobody is allowed to meet him without prior permission of the authorities. Meanwhile, one of Gurbaksh's supporters Gurpyar Singh sat on fast in Gurudwara Lakhnaur Sahib today demanding the release of Sikh prisoners. Notably, Gurbaksh, too, had been fasting at the same venue before he was shifted to hospital yesterday. According to Khalsa's son, Jujhar Singh, they requested the administration yesterday to shift Khalsa immediately to a hospital "since his condition was not good". Khalsa has been seeking the release of seven Sikh prisoners including those convicted for the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh in 1995 and one in the 1993 bomb blast case in New Delhi.

Personal opinion is I think it's likely as they have anti suicide laws but not sure if this is in all states, at the very least Bhai Sahib will be hooked up to a Glucose drip, this is standard in most hospitals.
