I heard that term in post in this forum but have no idea what it means. I Googled it but could not find enough infomrmation. What does this term mean?

Is the complete Sarbloh Granth available in audio format like the Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Dasam Granth are?

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh everybody,

There are a few teachings that I have heard people attribute to Guru Gobind Singh Ji but since I am not too learned in this area I don't know what the source of these teachings are. Here are the two that immediately sprint to mind.

1. Guru ji put applied oil to his arm and put his arm in a container full of mustard seeds. He pulled his arm out and said that if a Turk says "kasam" as many times as there are mustard seeds on his arm that we still should not believe him.

2. One day, after a battle against the Turks in which the Singhs won, a Singh said to Guru ji, "When we were weak these Turks took away our women, now we are strong and have won the battle we should take away their women". To this Guru Gobind Singh ji replied "Do not even think about it, if we did this what would the difference be between us and them"?

Does anyone have any more details about these two incidents and where the details about them are recorded?

It really is very easy. When you click on the link above you will see a 'log in' link at the top. Click on that and you have multiple ways you can log in.

Hi all,

I'm trying to set up a Sikhi Forum on StackExchange. It requies people to follow it and upvote questions and generally take part. An Islam one, Christianity one, Hinduism one, a Buddhim one and a Judaism one are all either created or have lots of followers but no one yet has set up a Sikhism one. Any support would be much appreciated.

I was wondering if anyone knew which languages the Guru Granth Sahib has been translated into.

As far as I know there are Englih, French, Hindi, Panjabi and Urdu translations. Is this correct? Are there others? Given that there are Sikhs in Singapore, China, Malaysia and Japan why have I never heard of a Japanese or Cantonese translation?

I think we should all buy a 100 pack of cd-rs (or 50 or however many) and make copies of this interview (and the introduction video) and distribute them at our local Gurdwaras. That is at least one way to get the message out.

I think it's a shame that we've stoped caring about each other. Back in the day Sikhs used to save Hindu and Muslim girls from being taken away by the likes of Ahmad Shah Abdali. Now, we can't even save our own daughters. Instead, like the lady said in the interview, when her husband was doing seva in the Gurdwara, someone said "Aidha de bacheya naal karna bhi ki ya". Laanat be upon us.

I hope this is the correct forum to post this message on.

Your seva would be much appreciated in the creation of audiobook versions of the 6 volumes of The Sikh Religion, Its Gurus, Sacred Writings and Authors by Max Arthur Macauliffe.

I have recently joined a website called Librivox (http://librivox.org), which site is used by amateur volunteers to create audio versions of books that are no longer under copyright and are therefore in the public domain. Each book is split into multiple sections and volunteers pick one ot more sections to record.

The 6 volumes mentioned are no longer under copyright and are in the public domain. I have suggested on this site that they be turned into audio books and a member called Carl has kindly agreed to coordinate this project, taking one volume at a time. It looks like that I may be the only one reading these volumes and this is why your seva would be much appreciated, not least because I have the voice of a donkey :-). In order to help with this seva you need a computer, a microphone attached to the computer and some free software called Audacity (although you could use other software if you like). It's easy to get started on this site and all the members are very helpful to new members. So, if you can, please do help.

I have read that Max Arthur Macauliffe produced a complete translation of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. My quesiton is where is his translation available? I can find translations from other people but not his one.

Dear Sangat Ji,

I have had a question swilling around in my head for a while now and I thought I'd share it with you all so that I could get some of your views and experiences. I notice when I go to the Gurdwara that sometimes a Jatha will come from some place and will distribute DVDs with Katha or Paath or something else on it. I sometimes do the same at the Gurdwara too. Now, on the weekends I notice that no matter where you go in London, where I live, where there is a significant ethnic minority population you will see Muslims and Christians (and increasingly Mormons - who, of course, consider themselves to be Christians) on the streets preeching their religion and giving out leaflets and CDs and books to attract people from other faiths to theirs. My question is why don't we do this? Is it right for us to do this too? Did not Guru Nanak travel all over the Arab lands, all over India and beyond to preach to others? Did not Baba Deep Singh Ji transliterate the Guru Granth Sahib into Arabic and send it to (to the best of my limited knowledge) Iraq? Why do we just preach to the converted? I am not saying that doing parchaar in the Gurdwara is useless - that would be a silly thing to say, because that is what a Gurdwara is for (among other things). What I am saying is that should we not preach to Sikhs and also to non-Sikhs?

I'd love to hear your comments on this issue.
