  1. Fateh! I'll show it 2 u now: LEGALITY

    In India (Legal)

Article 25 of the Indian Constitution deems the carrying of ‘kirpan’ to be included in the profession of the Sikh religion[1], thus legalizing the carrying of kirpan by Sikhs.

    In the United Kingdom (Legal)

It is legal under the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (section 139) and Offensive Weapons Act 1996 (section 3 and 4) for a Sikh to carry a kirpan with a blade for religious reasons (other reasons allowed by the Act are cultural or work related reasons). The Criminal Justice Act 1988 safeguards the rights of the Sikhs to carry the Kirpan as it is deemed a necessary part of their religion.

    In the USA (Legal)

There have been several court cases in the USA relating to the legality of wearing a kirpan in public places. Courts in New York and Ohio have ruled that banning the wearing of a kirpan is unconstitutional.[2] In recent years the Sikh practice of wearing a kirpan has caused problems for security personnel at airports and other checkpoints. Security personnel may confiscate kirpans if they feel it is necessary, but are advised to treat them with respect.[3]

    In Canada (Legal)

In most public places in Canada a Sikh religious Kirpan is allowed but there some places where it is not clear cut. In the 2006 Supreme Court of Canada decision of Multani v. Commission scolaire Marguerite‑Bourgeoys the court held that the banning of the kirpan in a school environment is against Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms as a reasonable accommodation. The issue started when a 12 year old student dropped a 20 cm (8 inches) long kirpan in school. School staff and parents were very concerned, and the student was required to attend school under police supervision until the court decision was reached.

    In Sweden (Legal Conditional)

Swedish law has a ban on “street weapons” in public places that also includes knives unless used for hobby (for instance fishing) or profession (for instance a carpenter). Knives considered harmless, like a pocket knife, are allowed so a dull kirpan is allowed.[4][5]

    In Denmark

On October 24, 2006, the Eastern High Court of Denmark upheld the earlier ruling of the Copenhagen City Court by which wearing of Kirpan by a Sikh was declared illegal. By this Denmark has become the first country in the World to pass such a ruling. Ripudaman Singh, who now works as a Scientist, was earlier convicted by the City Court for violating the Danish Weapons Law for publicly carrying a knife. He was fined 3000 Danish Kroner or an alternate imprisonment of 6 days. Though the High Court quashed this sentence, it maintained that the carrying of Kirpan by a Sikh is in violation of the Danish Weapons Law. The judgment stated, After all the information about the accused, the reason for the accused to possess a knife and the other circumstances of the case, such exceptional extenuating circumstances are found, that the punishment should be dropped, cf. Penal Code § 83, 2nd period.

Danish Weapons Law allows carrying of knives in public places if it is for fishing, hunting, sports or any other purpose recognized as valid. The High Court did not find religion as being a valid reason for carrying kirpan. It stated that, For these reasons, as stated by the City Court, it is agreed that the circumstance of the accused carrying the knife as a Sikh, cannot be regarded as a similarly recognisable purpose, included in the decision for the exceptions in weapon law § 4, par. 1, 1st period, second part.

    European Law

The Sikhs right to wear a Kirpan is protected by Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights on freedom of religion.

    Eurostar Train policy

Letter from Richard Brown, Eurostar Chief Executive Officer (10-07-2006):

“Our security arrangements at Eurostar are in effect determined by Transec, the Transport Security Division of the Department for Transport, under the Channel Tunnel Security Order. They are very similar to the arrangements in place at airports for the airline passengers.

In practice, therefore, our response will depend on the size of the Kirpan being carried, which do of course vary in size very considerably. In general any blade of three inches’ length or less is now permitted to by carried by passengers – provided this is not a flick knife or lock knife. Any longer than this, and a passenger is not allowed to carry the blade on them personally – but they can of course consign the item to registered luggage so that it is carried in a separate, locked compartment on the train. This would apply to a sword-length Kirpan, for instance.

My understanding is that many Kirpans are quite small.” VJKK VJKF!!!

But ever business has the right to refuse entry, why risk it. Your not gonna go to alton towers with your solicitor? so simple thing would be is to keep your shaster gupt. How many of us will take companies to court because they were rufued entry ? What will the papers gonna read Sikh man wins case to carry "DAGGER".

Simple solution is to keep it Gupt

  2. vjkkhalsavjkfateh guys

:@ me and my brother about to enter Bob Wilsons funfair today at 9pm and what hapens, the two security guards ask us whats that (referring to my kirpan), i explain, he tells me to take it out and show it to him, which i do, still says, sorry guys (thinking im a young boy), cant let you in for security reasons. We turn away but im not feeling sorry bout no getting in jus thinking about in the future, my little one will be turned away from funfairsbecause of their sikhi

Lets make our own funfair before that happens for our kids before they face this saddening discrimination.

We were guna bring our cousins down to see it....oh welll cant now <_<

    pray.gif

    LONG LIVE SIKHI CAMPS....YEEEEAAAHHH!!!!

Fetah jee we should really keep our shaster gupt. As the west does not understand why we wear the sri sahib. To much exposure to our sri sahib will only lead it to being banned. Image if we lived in punjab and gora started living there and they started to keep shaster but we was not allowed(lets not forget when the british had control in india this happen), how would we feel.

The up and coming weston generation dont understand their own religion let alone other religions. Look at France theve banned the sri sahib whos to say the Sri Sahib is next?

  3. Sri Harmandir Sahib Maryada is continuous reading of sri guru granth sahib jee and kirtan during day time and this been going on since our guru jees time. Maybe there is a reason for that.. I am not sure but i think kirtan should be given more important place than katha.

Kirtan is the method of conveying message of our 10 guru sahiban. There is no mix, no opinions added and therefore nobody can do kinto pirunto on message dhur ki bani.

Katha is highly mixture of gurbani with kathavachaak's personal opinion. Due of lack of gurbani knowledge in sikh masses, i think it is easy for rouge kathavachak's to mislead scores of ppl. Hence i think katha should not be given important place in our sikh culture.

I think katha should be limited to kids or strictly used during training programs. DamDami Taksal is the only sikh school having history of more than 100 years+. I think katha culture should only be preserved and run in such institutions where scores of sikh kids go to learn more about sikhi. (please do not bring politics about current situation).

I think people like me can be easily misled to other direction because of lack of knowledge on gurbani (kirtan). When that happens then it takes years to come to right path. Also, looking at all recent events from darsho to dhunda; we have seen them misleading sangat either by doing katha in between kirtan or holding kahta stages around the world.

I also think that ppl listening to katha of their fav. Kathavaachak becomes hard-core fan of them and start following them rather than focusing on follow sri guru granth sahib jee..

I respect all mahan kathavachaks and some of them have great knowledge about sikhi but i think it is important to note that katha culture is important in our life but kirtan should be the main appetite of every human.

Sorry if i offend anyone.. just random thoughts going thru my head...

Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa Vaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh

I would like to reply by stating that Guroo Arjan Dev Jee Say that Keertan and Katha are both necessary for understanding the principles of the Sikh faith.

Katha is like the mother, while Keertan is her son. - Many Gursikhs recite Gurbanee but do not understand it. For them (all of us) Katha is essential; as the teachings of Gurbanee may be absorbed into our minds - KathaVaachaks explain the meanings, the Saakhees etc behind the teachings by referring to Siree Granth Saroops prepared by (GurPrsaad) MahaPurkhs/Vidvaans e.g. Sri Gur Pratap Suraj Granth Jee. Katha is one of the Maha 'tools' to attain BhramGiaan.

Guroo Saab explains that Keertan is one of the Maha 'tools' to attune the mind and enjoy the Maha Rass of Anand'may Keertan.

However, due to various controversial individuals that consider themselves to be 'Kathavaachaks' - that tend to preach anti-Gurmat things - I fully believe that they are to blame - Katha and Keertan are highly blessed and beautiful articles of our Jeevan - its the individuals that are unforuntately harm their reputation. Though I believe we should not give in that easy - we need to monitor/attain official references of those who we allow to come and do Katha/Keertan in Guroo Ghars - not just sponser any 'Pind da Pathee' to come and sit on stage.

So to conclude, I like to think that Katha and Keertan are equally important, essential and beneficial in order to live and take pleasure in a Shudh Gurmukh and progressive Jeevan, we should have policies in place to almost 'recruit' / 'interview' Kathavaachaks/Keertanees before they enter Gurdvarae.

Though I 100% agree with you that people tend to start 'worshipping' the Kathavaachak/Keertanee - again we can't 'blame' Katha/Keertan for this - 'blame' the people that do it.

I agree with 'Kaljugi' - Katha is increasingly being pushed into the backgroud - which is a shame - we may end up just being Gursikhs that listen to Gurbanee/Keertan etc but have no knowledge of our Ithaas and BhramGiaan/Giaan.

    Bhul Chuk Maaf.

  4. bhai sukh singh why do you always critcise - afterall you camped with these people yourself not so long ago- stop criticising and get your finger out of a** and do something useful about it. If you had joined in you would have not criticised.

It's easy to criticise mate - take a deep breath and reflect on your comments - she didn;t change bani just added "har har" to jaap sahib" so what;s the difference if you said waheguru after a gurbani pangtee.

People like you need to really think with your brain before causing trouble and accusations - as this has been your trait since you were a young teenager from gravesend- grow up and learn and CHANGE your attitude sonny time is runnining fast.

LOLOL JUST READ UR POST AGAIN THIS IS NOT NIHANG SINGH SUKHA SINGH LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL CLASSIC

Nah i will criticise anything that goes against sikhi. Changing bani ? doing yoga ? what this showed was total disrespect to Gurbani. What you on about camped with these guys? it seems like your the one whos camped with them and is still camping with them.

Its easy to criticise ? this video should really be in the beadbi section !! This is totally against Gurmat. Well the reason i didnt join in was because the Panj Pyare told me to to nothing other than naam simran.

If you read Sidh Ghost Guroo Nanak Slates this so called type of yoga

So it may be you who needs to pull the finger out mate.

they are doing yoga or something?

Did you know you can also recite bani and Jaap Sahib while practising shastars!!!

Also, doing other things as well!

There is your fact for the day!

But can anyone image the Guroos doing Yoga while reading Bani

  6. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

A Sant was asked a question though not exactly the same. Something along the line of how Guru Sahib can be with multiple people at once.

The reply was take a mirror and point it at the sun. You will see the light of the one sun in the mirror. Now if you, break the mirror into 1000 pieces you will see the same sun in it's entirety in the 1000's pieces. The light is the same but it is reflected in 1000 pieces.

    Hope this helps.

    Bhul chuk maaf

VaheGuroo Nicely said i think ive found my answer
