There's a valid point here..banqueting halls do not promote Sikh values (and if anything they take us away from the very root of the humilty of Sikhi)....I think the Sikh Channel need to think about responsiblity to Sikh values when choosing advetising space...

It's a great initiative because modern Sikhs appear to be too far removed from the environment. In order to re-build our relationship with Akal Purakh we need to focus on the biological and geographical creation of Akal Purakh and ensure that the least we do as Khalsa is preserve the balance of Kudrat...without the the balance our sprituality will suffer, without sprituality our martial skills will suiffer, without martial skills our politcial set up will never take off...

Just saw it today the topic description ;' Debate with the Naamdhari Guy'

FYI i am not a Naamdhari. But i salute to those Naamdharis who sacrificed their lives to Protect sikh maryada During British Times. Please check your refernces Satguru/Sant/Baba Ram singh ji never told that He wanted to create separate Naamdhari Sect in Sikhism(please refer to his Letters from Rangoon Jail) and never ever did he mention He is a Guru(again refer to jail chittiyan). He always mentioned in his letters that SGGSji is the ultimate SATGURU.

There's a big difference between the mahan naamdharis of Baba Ram Singh's time and the naamdharis today who proclaim him and his "successors" SatGurus. I think we need to define that before we start justifying their beliefs and acceptance in the mainstream panth.

Mohinder Pal,so in your view how many of these dehdhari gurus who "promote" shabad guru can exist on this earth at one time. Are you saying the self proclaimed guruship of the namdhari guru is as equal to the self proclaimed guruship of the nirankari guru who is as equal as the self promclaimed guruship of the radhoasoami guru?

Why not be more specific about your views on the "who's who guide to dehdhari gurus" rather than give wishy washy statements abouts bowing your head to all of god's creations? Are you here to justify the existance of the current namdhari 15th "Guru" who the namdharis claim direct lineage back to Guru Gobind SIngh Ji Maharaj?

As a parent I am not convinced I would be happy with my kids playing on the xbox for 4 hours even if it's in a Guru ghar and for charity. Why not encourage the real thing, surly we are breeding too many obese couch potatoes by letting our kids sit on their backsides playing the xbox at home all day anyway!

The Sikh Kaum is full of stirrers and troublemakers who make issues out of the design of dastars and link it to a superiority matrix. It's even more disheartening to see youth still have the koorh in their mindset and have the audacity to label a dastar" jatt or tarkaan".

BBC Asia Network never really did anything beneficial for the Asian community. It could have been something bigger and could have had some real clout in the Asian community, however, it boiled down to it being run by the BBC who had their view of where the "Asian" in Britain should be and how they should be. It never really represented reality.

I don't care if this offends anyone but all these chubby Delhi Singhs need to get their act together and start taking responsibility of our ithasic gurdwaras. Blaming DSMGC is just an excuse for complete negligance from the local sangat. Anyone who has been to Delhi knows how lazy the Delhi sangat are when it comes to looking after the Gurdwaras...and this just allow DSMGC to do whatever unchallenged...Wake up Delhi and start reclaiming your local gurdwaras..

There are definetly a serious shortage of decent Sikh Children books available. I really like the illustrations on this specific book, however although an activity book is good it has a short shelf life and once the activities have been completed the books tend to be put aside and have little chance of being passed down to younger siblings. I really like the illustrations on this specific book.

I would really request a serious of illustrated Sikh story books for a range of ages based on the format the sewadars have developed on this activity book.

Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra programme was a real eye-opener. What a brave Gursikh!!!...and what an amazing speech he did at Dixie Gurdwara in 1991...definetly the words of a Shaheed.....

There was a genuine interest in the public (sikh and non-sikh) to contribute money towards Bhai Sukhwinder Singh's family. As far back as the first reports last Saturday evening, there were readers' posts on the on-line national newspaper articles which continously asked for details of where any contributions could be sent. When Khalsa Aid stepped forward there was an air of confidence that at last someone is organising a fund, however this has now been cancelled as per family requests.

When you call Barking Gurdwara, they appear unsure about the fund and ask you to call again. However the prabhandak who is sure is usually not there. Then someones mentioned the British Sikh Council who (with respect) have a prehistoric website that looks like it has not been updated since the late 1990s which gives little confidence that they are active. Many of us do not live in Barking so don't know who is who, who is running what and who is collecting what

So my question to anyone who knows. HOW DOES ONE MANAGE GET TO SEND MONEY TO BHAI SUKHWINDER SINGH'S FAMILY? Please can this be made visable ASAP as Bhai Sahib's story is dieing down in the media and that potential public contribution will just fade away....

Who ever has been nominated by the family, please please take the lead and provide us with information. We only want to help...

However, his actions will inspire more people to come forward to be the next Sukhwinder Singh. This is the cycle Maharaj creates for us and every so often some Gurmukh is blessed enough to make a massive impactual sacrifice to inspire others. Sukhwinder Singh was blessed with this sewa and I certainly know that his actions have made me think about myself and my own inner ability to stand up for righteousness...even if it is helping someone whose handbag has been snatched.

Sikhi celebrates death....Bhai Sukhwinder Singh is not a "victim".....he is an inspiration..

The brave death of Bhai Sukhwinder Singh is an inspiration for us bickering Sikhs. So many of us are so into our Jathas, our Groups, our version of history and our version of maryada. We spend hours proving each other wrong and justifying our Sikh superiority over others, justifying our own jeevans.

However, picture this. A women being mugged by 2 big black men, a woman being punched in the face by the aggressive mugger and then a lone Singh of Guru Gobind Singh Ji giving chase to these muggers risking more than just his live, but risking the life-line of his wife, son, mother and father all the way in Punjab. How many of us would have gone this far to help someone? How many of us Sikhs would fear our own lives and turn a blind eye?

This is "Sarbat Da Balla" in its entireity. This is the "Shubh Karman" that Guru Gobind Singh Ji talks about. This Singh belonged to no Jatha, no Taksaal, no Dal, he was just a sewadar earning a living in the UK. He was a Sikh of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, of Guru Granth Sahib Ji

Please let's not forget this. Sukhwinder Singh has become a national hero for Britain, his memory in the mainstream may only last a few days but his noble deeds should be an inspiration for us Sikhs for the rest of our lives. Please, let's not forget this veer's actions. Someone's already mentioned a fund for the family of Sukhwinder Singh, please can this be shared amongst the Sangat so that we can show his family that they were blessed with a brave son, a brave father and a brave husband.

I passed by the crime scene last night and it felt like an empty ground with no memorial for what this Singh. When a loved on is killed in a car accident, people place flowers, cards, photographs on the scene, people visit the scene and remember their loved one. This Singh was a Pyara (loved one) of the Guru and the least we owe him a place in our memories.

A really beautifully post above........We visited the scene of the death of Bhai Sukhwinder Singh today, some of the local residents came out to talk to us asking if we knew Bhai Sahib personally. There's small number of flowers placed around one of the lamposts on the corner of Victoria road and Loxford road, one was from a local Black resident, the card praised Bhai Sahib's bravery and said that not all Black people are muggers and thieves....looks like this is really bringing the local community together..

Please take some time out, I saw only one bunch of flowers there. We need to show how proud we are of this Singh!

It's the least we as local Sikhs should do! I just saw the report on ITN news and there was only a small bunch of flowers pictured in the corner. Come on, if this was a Gora-Have-a-go-Hero, the site of his death would be close to a shrine flooded with flowers and memorials

I live down the other end of London, my wife and I are planning to come to Barking tomorrow to visit the Gurdwara and lay down some flowers where the Singh died....

Let's face it many of us wouldn't have the courage to stand up to a mugger if they were mugging us let alone someone else. This Singh deserves the treatment of an inspirational hero within British settled Sikhs.
