  1. Misdeeds of Dudley's Ill-Informed Gurdwara President and his Minions! Guru Nanak Singh Sabha Gurdwara (GNSSG), Wellington Road Dudley, UK, Update: GNSSG has recently been very busy undermining the teachings of our Gurus through various violations. Here's a quick update on what they have been up to:- 1) The Gurdwara committee has put an end to the daily Simran done by the ladies in the Darbar Sahib during their sadh sangat programmes. Gurbani says, "Saas Saas Simro Gobind" "Meditate on the Name of God with Every Breath". The committee should be finding ingenious ways of encouraging Simran - not stopping it. 2) The committee, under the leadership of the president, has also decided to hold a Dinner and Dance (D & D) at the community hall to raise funds for the Gurdwara through ticket sales. While creative ways of raising funds may be fine, its NOT when meat and alcohol is served. Our Guru instructed us to offer Dasvandh (i.e. donating 10% of our income in the name of the Guru for rightful purposes) - not carry out activities that are contrary to Sikh teachings in order to raise funds. The right method has already been given - stick to it! Committee members are well-advised to start giving Dasvandh and encourage others to do the same. Remember what Guru Gobind Singh ji said to Bhai Nand Lal: “Hear ye Nand Lal, one who does not give dasvandh and, telling lies, misappropriates it, is not at all to be trusted.” - Tankhahnama Dasvandh is implicit in Gurbani: “Ghali khai kichhu hathhu dei, Nanak rahu pachhanahi sei" "He alone, O Nanak, knoweth the way, who eats out of what he earneth by his honest labour and yet shareth part of it with others” (SGGS 1245). 3) Recently a party was held at the community centre by a private group. After the party was over late at night, many drunken people were given accomodation to stay in the Gurdwara for the night. Isn't it ironic that drunks were welcomed into the Gurdwara (a violation), and the sanggat was stopped from doing Simran!? 4) The president wanted to install chairs in the Darbar Sahib - another unacceptable violation. Sikhs have been sitting on the floor since the time of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji - so who are these guys to change that? Chairs have been around since before the time of the pharoahs and could easily have been used by the Gurus, but they did not. Learn from that. The responsibility of the committee and president is to help further the Teachings - the above are instead great steps backward! Do not perceive compromise and violations as progression - its nothing but corruption of thought that will encourage even more of the same. Activities such as these are offensive and hurt religious sentiments. Its time for the sanggat in Duddley, and beyond, to understand that what the committee is doing is fundamentally wrong and should be stopped without delay. Its once again time to stop the likes of Massa Rangarh in this time and age (Massa Rangarh was a similar misfit who desecrated the sanctity of Darbar Sahib).
