  2. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh

One time some Pandits came to Sachkhand Sri Anandpur Sahib Ji and stood before Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. They said to Maharaj that Guruji you have given everything to the Khalsa, you have given them all the seva, you do their pooja and their satkaar.

    Khalsa mero roop hai khaas.

The Khalsa is my complete image

    Khalse maih hau karo nivaas.

    I dwell in the khalsa

    Khalsa mero mukh hai ang-aa.

    Khalsa is my chief organ

Khalse ke hau sadh sadh sang-aa.

I am always with the khalsa

    Khalsa mero mitr sakhaa-ee

    Khalsa is my closest friend

    Khalsa maat pitaa sukhdaa-ee

Khalsa is my mother, father & source of all comforts.

    Khalsa meri jaat ar pat.

Khalsa is my caste & creed.

    Khalsa sau maa kau utapat.

My creation is through the khalsa

    Khalsa mero bhavan bhand-aa-raa.

I dwell in the khalsa who is a storehouse of all my requirements.

    Khalse kar mero satk-aa-raa.

I am honoured because of the khalsa.

    Khalsa mero pind par-aan.

Khalsa is my body & breath.

    Khalsa meri jaan ki jaan.

Khalsa is my life & soul

    Khalsa mera satgur poor-aa

    Khalsa is my full-fledged Guru.

    Khalsa mera sajan soor-aa.

    Khalsa is my brave friend.

    Khalsa mero budh ar giaan.

Khalsa is my wisdom & knowledge.

    Khalse ka hau dhar-au dhiaan.

I always contemplate the khalsa prayerfully

    Upmaa khalsae jaath na kahi

Eulogy of the khalsa is beyond me.

    Jihv-aa ek paar nah lahi.

I cannot fathom full praise of the khalsa with one tongue.

Ya mai ranch na mithe-aa bhaakh-ee.

I certify that I have not mis-stated anything in the foregoing.

    Paarbrahm gur Nanak saak-ee.

God & Guru Nanak are my witnesses to endorse the foregoing truth.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Sarb Loh Granth, (MS), 519-526.

Be merciful and tell us what have you left for us?

Maharaj smiled and gave the Pandits an asthan. He then told them to sit down and to do bhagti, to do abhiyaas of Sri Gurmantar Sahib Ji for eight hours. In return for this seva Maharaj said he would give the Pandits 15-15 mohars. Hearing the Bachan the Pandits were full of happiness. Whilst Maharaj stood before the Pandits they continued to do abhiyaas. As soon as Maharaj physically left that place the Pandits would stop and began to talk to one another.

Maharaj being Antarjami told Bhai Alam Singh Ji to go and watch over the Pandits and to not allow them to talk to one another. Bhai Alam Singh Ji did this and for over 8 hours he stood watch. During this time the Pandits did the jaap. At the end of the 8 hours Maharaj came with 15 mohars and gave them to the Pandits. He then said stay here, do abhiyaas and everyday I will give you 15 mohars.

The Pandits listened to this and said to Guru Sahib that no this seva is too difficult - we can't do it. In this way they left Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib Ji and went back to Kanshi from where they had come from.

Please post what you think the morals are from this sakhi? Also please post how we can attach ourselves to Sri Gurmantar Sahib Ji.

One time Sant Baba Bishan Singh Ji, the 10th jathedhar of Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Damdami Taksal decided to visit Amritsar and in particular Sant Baba Shaam Singh Ji.

Sant Baba Shaam Singh Ji was the kirtani of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib Ji who had spent over 90 years doing seva with his Sarandha.

Sant Baba Bishan Singh Ji and the jatha had done darshan at Harmandir Sahib Ji and then began to make their way to the asthan of Santji. As they reached there they found an old singh cleaning the sewer/drain. They asked where Sant Baba Shaam Singh Ji was and were advised by the old Gursikh to go inside the asthan and sit down and Santji would be with them soon.

The old Gursikh then did Panj ishnaan and went and sat in front of them. When he did this he was asked again that they wished to have darshan of Sant Baba Shaam Singh Ji - the old Gursikh relied that the vessel sat before them was Sant Baba Shaam Singh Ji.

    Waheguruji...

May Maharaj bless with with such humility.

  4. Very interesting topic. The original question "When did your family become Sikhs?" seems to make logical sense to all.

It begs the question: "What did your family do to become Sikhs?" which then raises the question "Is your family/are you Sikh today?"

Do we suddenly apply different criteria to becoming/being Sikh today?

    Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh,

    Excellent point Budda Singh Ji.

  5. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh,

Came across these videos some time ago.

Mahapursh sat in their own mauj listening to Dhur Ki Bani...is there anything more beautiful?

For those of you who don't know Sant Baba Joginder Singh Ji did seva at Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib for over 40 years - for 12 of these he didn't utter a single word and instead was engrossed in naam abhiyaas.

Good to see lots of señor speilbergolike Singhs.

I agree we don't need to spend lots of maya on a high octane all-action film to depict the events of the sikh genocide. This can and has been achieved very successfully by others through good acting, dialogues and camera work.

Btw I never appreciated acting until I saw the film Act of Valor - they chose to use real navy seals as opposed to actors. Shockingly bad - I never walk out of the cinema but that day was the closest I've come.

  7. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh,

How does one go about bringing change in the management of the Gurudwara Sahib? Do we have to enter the 'committee' and influence them in that way or do we try and stand up as a sangat and bring change as the morchas did in the early 1920s?

I recently attended an election at a gurudwara sahib - ending up leaving fairly promptly but was later told by one of the Singhs that the votes actually outnumbered the sangat gathered there!?!

The saddest thing I find is that there is never any objectives or goals stated at these meetings. Therefore when the next election is held you can never see if the committee achieved their targets etc.

How on earth can any organisation function in this way?

  8. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh,

Really love your posts neo veerji - thank you once again.

So essentially centres of learning...Gurmat maryada, dharm vidiya, brahmgyan, shaster vidiya, jang vidiya, raajneeti...

How many of us can honestly say our local Gurudwaras are like this?

    Where/when did things go wrong?

    Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru

Thank you so much Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj

  10. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh,

Thanks tuhintuhin veerji. Those are very good topics that will definitely need to be covered.

You make a very important point regarding guiding children toward the right set of resources - books/websites/articles. These will need to be vetted for content and then a suitable list of recommended resources provided to the children.

One problem I've found is that children are too shy to let you know what they want to cover - so perhaps an anonymous box at each class would be a good idea.

To help reinforce learning I think it would be good to have some display boards in the Gurudwara Sahib that would host a monthly exhibition ( chatanga's idea) on a particular topic/historical event that has been prepared by the sikhi class children. That would allow not only the sangat to benefit but would also encourage the children to take a more active role in educating themselves becoming parcharaks in their own right.

  11. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh,

In addition to the sangat that have died, four saroops of Satguri Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj have been washed away.

Waheguruji. No doubt Maharaj has placed himself in the jaal and saved countless others...

Kalgidhar Pitaji continue to keep your sangat who have come to your pavitar asthan near your beautiful charankamal.

    Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh

  12. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh,

Excellent suggestions - please keep them coming.

MKD89, thanks for the link. The comics look great and I will be placing an order for all 9.

Leciestersikhs - the year 1 resources and lesson plan was just what I was looking for. Do you have year 2's resources as well? I think having a central resource like this is a great idea and would benefit the many sikhi/punjabi classes across the globe. Just think how this could grow if everyone contributed their content?

We were also thinking of recording video/audio of the classes to place online for children and their parents to go through again so that key points could be revisited and emphasised.

Most rooms inside the Gurudwara Sahib have projector screens, besides wifi so will definitely be looking to use PPT as much as possible.
