1. Actually even the best kirtan at our nagar kirtan uses dhol which makes u feel like dancing just like bhangra grin.gif

Bhainji the dhol is used at nagar kirtans to inspire Bir Rus in the people doing kirtan and Gatka. The Nagar Kirtan itself has no relation with Bhangra, or culture. The season of Vaaisakh is obviously celebrated in Punjab for cultural as well as religious reasons, but the Nagar Kirtan is a procession of Guru Ji's Khalsa, and Guru Granth Sahib Ji is leading the procession, at the front of the Nagar Kirtan. It is not appropriate to have songs and bhangra dancing in front of Guru Sahib Ji. In my humble opinion, the only type of "dancing" we should be doing in front of Guru Sahib Ji is dancing with shasters - doing Gatka and our penthra - we are a warrior kaum...

Bhangra is not acceptable at any Nagar Kirtan being held in memory of Guru Ji's Panj Pyare, and Guru Khalsa Panth. I'm not saying whether the act of Bhangra it self is right or wrong, but it's definitely not appropriate at any Nagar Kirtan, where Guru Ji themself are walking with their laadlee Fauj.

    bhul chuk maaf.

    what is bir ras?

i guess if theres bhangra it is inappropriate to call it nagar kirtan, "Vaisakhi Parade" is the more appropriate name if theres both religious and cultural features

  2. You know even jesus said religion is like a double edged sword.. khanda is a universal religious symbol.. everyone else has forgotten it! Same with naam!!!! catholics have some kind of naam.. they say 10 hail marys.. but wheres the naam abhyaas?

ooh really yea maybe he really came back as guru gobind singh then

  3. NO it shouldn't, this is a religious procession not a bloody wedding!

It is the duty of the Gurdwara Members to make sure that no bhangra dancers make an appearance (or dressed).  And then before the procession begins to address the sangat to make sure NOBODY dances!!

    Am i right?

not even at "bloody weddings" .. but that's a different topic.

  4. Every January, the SSA organizes a conference to bring together Sikh youth

    from around the Lower Mainland.

It's with great excitement that we're launching a new format this year.

Instead of the regular speaker routine, we're experimenting with a workshop

format, one that will allow those who attend the conference to personally

experience the different aspects of being a Sikh.

There will be an introduction to a) Gatka, the Sikh martial art, b)

Meditation, in order to experience the spiritual side of Sikhi, and lastly

    c) a discussion forum to air our concerns and questions on what it means to

be a Sikh youth in the west.

Registration for attending the conference is required. In order to

register, e-mail back to sikhiunleashed@yahoo.ca with your name, age and

    gender.

    See you January 15th

  5. "Are Beards Practical - they seem like they'd get in the way when eating and stuff."

Are you kidding me? how can you pose such a question on a Sikh message board.

Were all those sacrifices made by our people practical?

    115632

it is good to be a challenge. makes sikhs even stronger. dont look at who this question is coming from just think about what u would say to that.

yes those sacrifices were practical because the outcome of them was very effective

    What's your point?

Your post did not make any sense whatsoever.

    116347

the point is u shouldnt be saying "cant post that on a sikh message board" cause if u cant even take something that goes against it then u have no strength...

  7. On Friday April 29, 2005 we are holding a program to celebrate Vasakhi. Traditionally there had been a lack of English Multimedia Literature in Sikhism. Recognizing this, we have been collectively focusing our efforts promoting Sikhi thru various forms of Multimedia. We have arranged to have a cinema style screen/ projector setup providing English translations of Gur Shabads while we sing altogether. This way one can sing along, and also understand the Gurus word making this format most beneficial for youths in particular. If you would like any further information or have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at saturdaysimran@yahoo.com .

Dallas, Texas, USA - In a unique show of unity and oneness, many faiths joined in the DFW (Dallas Fort Worth) Khalsa Parade in downtown Dallas on April 16. Colorfully decorated floats carried the Guru Granth Sahib while the congregations followed, singing hyms.

The brightly dressed Panj Piaras were at the front of the procession. There were musical bands and youth groups and some young people were on horses in a delightfully sunny day. A highly skilled team of Sikh Gatka players from New Mexico was specially invited for the parade.

What was noteworthy and remarkable about this parade was the presence and representation of all the main faiths: Islam, Hindu, Christian demominations, Bahai, Russian Orthodox, Hare Krishnas and more.

  9. Yea i saw the trailer for this movie. it looked interesting. they made sunny deol look like a joke, captioning him with "Funny Sunny" and then showing a scene where they say "He's got his own language" and show him saying something i forget the whole line but it ends with "only jatt".

Hey did anyone watch Ab Tumare Hawale Watan Sathiyo? i heard the story was boring so i didnt feel like watchin. I wonder hw they portrayed sikhs
