Some of the hate and ignorance displayed in this thread is quite disturbing and disappointing. It is not the Sikh way.

Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) is a faction of the Akali Dal headed by Simranjit Singh Mann. Mr Mann was tortured in the 1980's for his views and support of the Khalistan Movement.

This party is quite vocal in regards to Panthic issues and especially in regards to Sikh self-determination. It is my understanding that it is this viewpoint that often keeps them at odds with the government.

Banda Singh Bahadur achieved some great things for the Khalsa Panth. We should remember him for these achievements rather than focusing on the flaws. Like everyone else, he was also human and by no means perfect.

At the end of the day he was martyred for Sikhi and that is how we should remember him. His heroic exploits set the course for the eventual establishment of the Sikh Raj under Maharaja Ranjit Singh (who also was not a perfect Sikh, but who Sikhs also hold in high esteem).

Inform local law enforcement and school officials if it occurred at school. Also speak to any witnesses that were present when this attack happened.

As well as striving for independence in the context of a Sikh homeland, we should also start creating Khalistan (land of the pure) within ourselves too. There should be Khalsa for the Khalsa Raj!

She clearly has no understanding of the issues she is writing of and unfortunately a lot of Sikhs, who are also somewhat ignorant of the issue, will also be swayed by such articles.

We need to step up and get the TRUTH out to all Sikhs in a clear and succinct manner. It's time we also use the media. Is this article only published online? Is it in print as well?

Perhaps some members of the Canadian sangat can go ahead and write a letter to 'The Star' as editorial feedback. Similarly, we can all post comments on article online.

This is all the doing of Ragi D and Co.

First they try and strip us of the Bir Rass spirit of Dasmesh Pita's Bani.

Then they provoke us by using the most vile language to slander Guru Ji's Bani in order to get such a reaction, which in turn will now cause the debate that this article refers to.

If successful, they will have then stripped us of one of the Panj Kakkars, thus further emasculating Guru's Khalsa.

I have no doubts that this is their devious plan.

The only way is to fight back and rebuke their lies. Draw media attention to what the truth is, and how they are the ones that are going against the tenets of Sikhism.
