Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
Did Guru Sahib invent Gurmukhi Script?
There are three views:
1. Guru Sahib invented Gurmukhi for writing Gurbani.
2. Guru Sahib modified some other Punjabi/North-Indian scripts to form Gurmukhi and after that used the script for writing Gurbani.
3. Gurmukhi existed before Guru Sahiban, and there is no connection between Gurmukhi and Gurus, other than the fact that they popularised it and therefore it came to be assosiated with their name and later for common usage for Punjabi langauge.
Which of these views do you people think is correct? Please give some kind of argument for that (i am not asking for 'evidence', even scholars would have hard time collecting that, but if you got something, bring it on... )
My humble request,
Bhul Chuk Maaf Karna Jio

The 'Dictionary' meaning of Sardar is:
According to Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha in Mahan Kosh:
Sardar - (Farsi/Persian); 1. Pardhan (chief/leader), Mukhia (head/leader), Shiromani ('the prime object'/leader/head).
So the word Sardar is from Persian and simply means a 'head' or leader. I have a Kurdish friend, and from him i know that Sardar word is also used in their language, Kurdish language. His understanding of the words was that Sardar is a military leader at a small level, perhaps a head of 10-20 men who are under his direct command. This friend of mine uses the word Sardar as his lastname/family name.
In the Sikh understanding of the words; it is a Sikh male, who wears a dastaar (turban). It may or may not include an Amritdhari Sikh, but i haven't heard of any such conventional meaning. And normally it is used for any Keshadhari-Daastar wearing Sikh.
However the Punjabi understanding is much broader; there have been Muslim and Hindu Sardars in Punjab. They used the word as they were leaders of their villages/groups etc. And as pagri is also a part of Punjabi culture, they also wore a turban, but it is not in the same sense as the Sikh dastaar. The Muslim/Hindu pagri was a sign of honour, respect and leadership.

Bibi misusing SGPC resources: Mann
Tribune News Service
http://www.tribuneindia.com/2004/20041023/...3/punjab1.htm#2
Chandigarh, October 22
The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) will file a case against the SGPC Chief, Bibi Jagir Kaur, in the court of the Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission for “misusing” SGPC resources.
The president of the party, Mr Simranjit Singh Mann, said today that Bibi Jagir Kaur had been using the SGPC employees to beat activists of other parties. He said that most of those involved in beating SAD (Amritsar) activists at Patiala a few days ago were SGPC employees posted at various gurdwaras in Patiala.
Bibi Jagir Kaur was spreading the culture of “violence” among SGPC employees instead of utilising their services for the management of gurdwaras. “She was following the path of a Mahant Narainu, who had used brute force against Sikhs long back to keep his control over gurdwaras”, said Mr Mann.
He said Mr Parkash Singh Badal was out to ruin all Sikh institutions through his puppets. “The former Chief Minister was not bothered what happens to Sikhism and its institutions”, said Mr Mann.
Denying the allegation of Bibi Jagir Kaur that workers of SAD (Amritsar) wanted to eliminate her, Mr Mann said that his party had no agenda of eliminating her. “Our party’s only objective is to eliminate criminality and evil among Sikh leaders holding important religious p
ositions”, he added. “We would continue to oppose her on every step to make her quit the presidentship of the SGPC because of her alleged involvement in a criminal case”, said Mr Mann.
Poster of Bibi defaced
Our Correspondent
Phagwara, October 22
A huge poster bearing the picture of SGPC President Jagir Kaur was found defaced here today.
The poster had been put up about a month ago on the GT Road near Gol Chowk in connection with the quadricentennial celebrations of Guru Granth Sahib.
There is a black cross over the face and the word “Mahantni (a derogatory term used for those who controlled gurdwaras by force in the beginning of the last century)” written below it. Also the words “Bibi” and “Kaur” have been crossed in her name printed on the poster, leaving only the word “Jagir”.
The vandalised poster was later removed by supporters of Bibi Jagir Kaur.
However, leaders of SAD (A) were quick to hold a press conference to hail what they called the “blackening of the face of Bibi Jagir Kaur.” Party leaders Harjinder Jakhu, Surinder Kaur, Gurjant Singh Kattu, Rajinder Singh Fauji, and Resham Singh Pappi declared they would honour the defacer in case he made his name public.
Bibi Jagir Kaur had slurred the image of the Sikh community, they said, referring to the circumstances surrounding the death of her daughter, Harpreet Kaur.
I remember Singh47 Ji saying in some other post that Bibi was from lineage of Muralae Samparda....
What is going on here? Could you eloborate? Were Murale wale Mahants?

French Sikhs Jasvir, right, and Bikramjit Singh pose in the Sikh temple of Bobigny, France, outside Paris, Wednesday Oct. 20, 2004. The boys have been kept out of class since the start of September, in accordance with the law banning all conspicuous religious signs from public schools, which went into effect at the start of the academic year on Sept. 2. In the first court case resulting from the law, Sikh leaders have asked a court to force the school to convene a disciplinary hearing or let the boys into classrooms. A ruling is expected Friday. Some Sikh schoolchildren risk expulsion from their school for wearing their turban. Two Muslim girls who refused to remove their head scarves have been expelled Tuesday in Mulhouse, eastern France, as officials begin taking action against those who defy the new law banning conspicuous religious symbols from public schools. One word: Racism!

Bhai Sahib, you just summoned up everything in the last words. Whatevery, whoever you are, as long as Jeevan-lifestyle doesn't change....there will be problems.
Son of Scthia: bro, i have read jatt history, i have read about the clans and their stories. i read through the three volumes by Rose that you mentioned that talks about all tribes, castes and clans of punjab. i am interested in our history...i mean punjab history and jatts are a part of it. but tell me one thing. whatever they have done before, lots of good things (warrior art), but also very bad things (drinking etc), how will being proud help you or me? if you agree only Waheguru gives freedom from human life and only Waheguru helps us, what advantages do you or i have of being from some particular background?? what means is our JEEVAN! whatever your background, get your moral correct, live spiritually high and worldly low...and you will be 'proud' of that...and lots of others also.
(now i feel hypocrate...sometimes we need to listen ourselves also! damm me.)

Practising caste can be called casteism. Practising race can be called racism. What do you prefer? Choice is yours...

Also, please listen and STOP calling 'Sikh Rehat Maryada' for 'Akalian di Maryada' as in Akali - the politicians.
