Baiscally, it is legal to wear the kirpan publically, but there is a grey area, if an organisation (private etc) feels that the wearing of a kirpan can be a health and safety risk, then they can argue against the wearing of a kirpan.

Having said that any ruling that prohibits the wearing of a kirpan has to be careful that it is not 'indirect racial discrimination'

Recently with Guru's kirpa some nawjawan from the UK (Midlands) campaigned successfully to allow kirpans to be worn into a football staduim. It was discussed in a logical way and potential health and saftey concerns were overcome in a sensible way.

Ultimate Pappi PM me if you want more details of this case and help in any kirpan issues.

Bollywood is awash with money 'most of it dirty'

Be interesting to know how much they paid the gurdwara for this filiming.

Also where this money went (even though morally the Gurdwara funds should not be supported by dirty money and more importantly gURDWARA premises sould not be 'sold' for these type of things). Did it go to gurdwara funds or as a 'back hander'

The case happened recently at a major football club in the uk. It was decided to keep it low profile (*i.e not go to the press etc) as the policy was initially for 6 months. Thus we didn't want to do anythign that could affect the short term policy.

Once a full time policy is implemented while still not goign to the press ect, we will use it as good practice guide for other situations.

If you do require more details. pls pm me

You are right in that in uk there are no official guidlines FOR SIZE ETC.

Each local authroity coucnil are encouraged to formulate their own policy based on National guidelines. in some polcies there is a restrictionon size, others not. It normally depends on which' Sikhs' were involved in discussions etc

But one thing, what the police officer told you is legally wrong.

Legally speakign the offensive weapons act makes it clear that the kirpan can be worn pubilcally in the uk. (there is no mention or coverign it up or not).

The only' ambigous area of the policy is that, while publically, you can wear it, if you are on private grounds, the owner etc if they make a good case in terms of a possible health and saftey concern, then they have a case.

in uk there are a few cases happening. Recently Gursikhs from Midlands ensured that a kirpan can be worn into footbal lgrounds providing a policy is followed).

This took over a year to win, but with negiotiaion and making others aware, then agencies etc haven't really got a case to argue.

Need to be careful, we were recently in discussion with an acency who had banned siri sahibs from their venue, one of their compromises was that we could wear 'a symbolic' one aroudn the neck.

    This was rejected.

We need to be pround of the full sized siri sahib we have :D not compromise with smaller versions :@

    Sangat Ji

When 'a clash' happens, we always start jumping up and down.

Wouldn't be a better logic to accept 2 programmes on the same day and invite Ragis from the atam Ras programme to come to the Rain-sbai and do kirtan.

I know Bhai Harjinder SIngh ji has done kirtan at rain-sbais before.

This way sangat who are followign atam ras up and down the country might also come to rainsbai.

Lets make things easier for ourselves and not complicated

also, both programmes should NOT have clashed with the world cup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

England could be playign on that day!!!

The worl cup was planned long before both programmes!!!

    How dare you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hahahaha

    Only joking :@ )))))))))

Have fun whereever you go :) ))))))))))))))))

Do ardas, but also, ask your parents to ring the numbers on the poster and speak to the sevadars, they may be able to reassure them.

If that doesn't work, then there's sevadar in all the major towns, so they could even meet your pareenst face to face, once your parents met teh Gursikhs, this would be more reasuurance.

So speak to your paremts and contact the sevadar

    hope this helps

  10. Guru di kirpa, hopefully it has been called off,

but sangat jio, this issue has been goign on for the last two yrs, and now the wedding season is about to start again, so we need to look at a bigger strategy.

The Gursikhs from R4G has spent the winter distributing leaflets at Gurdwaras etc, but this message has to go more mainstreams,

Asian wedding magazines, wedding planners, freelance Granthi, all major sikh orgs in UK, HOTELS ASSOCIATIONS ETC,

otherwise the sngatt is gonan have another busy summer travellign up and down the country to stop this beadbi
