  1. Dastar is the term for any kind of turban you wear = a gift from Guru Ji.

Keski is what you wear under your normal turban, altough some wear only a Keski. It is a small cloth, usually from 3 to 5 m long.

    Nina.jpg

Most Sikh bibian who wear a turban opt for a Keski. Many Singhs wear a Keski too.

Dumalla is what Nihangs wear, nowadays AKJ and Taksali youth in Europe also started to wear Dumallas. It is a larger turban minimum 5 m long.

    Normal Dumalla (without any accesories)

There also exists variaties between the Dumallas; such as Chand Tora dumalla (Nihangs wear this), etc. But the one above is the simple dumalla.

  2. Chaupa Singh Rehatnama has additions. Two parts are easily distinguishable - they are about Brahmins and are out of place in the context of the Rehat.

Some parts of the Rehatnama are found in Bansawlinama - 1769.

But I don't think internal evidence is enough to say something is authentic. Rehatnama Prehlad Singh says written in 1695 in Abchalnagar when Guru Gobind Singh was there. History shows that Guru Ji didn't go to Abchal Nagar uptil 1708. So don't only rely on internal dating.

Chaupa Singh Rehatnama is too big, I am sure much has been added lateron. I got few articles analysing it (in Punjabi).

DalSingh - MS770 is oldest manuscript which contains Nasihatnama. It is a large manuscript and one chapter of it is Nasihatnama. Older copies probably existed but are non existent today.

(BTW, You can find old Nasihatnama manuscripts with 20 stanzas, 35 stanzas, 43 stanzas or even 62 stanzas.)

  3. The prophet Mohammed, married Aisha when she was an infant at the the request of Aisha's father, to cement his bond with the Prohpet. What greater way than through marriage, her father thought. Look please do not say things like, it is has offensive overtones. No one has exact proof of prophet Mohammed's life and actions. All we know is the marriage was consumated after Aisha reached puberty. Some say 12. You were not there so how can yuou comment? Please note in those times people did marry at very young age, not pre puberty but on reaching very soon they were married.

Brother, half knowledge can be deadly.

    1. Muhammad married Ayesha when she was six years old and consummated it when she was nine.

Sahih Muslim Book 008, Number 3310

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 64

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 65

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 88.

    2. Muhammad HIMSELF asked Aysha's hand. Aysha's father was like a brother Muhammad, and Arabs didn't marry brothers daughters. But Muhammad convinced him in doing so.

    Sahih Bukhari 7.18

    Narrated 'Ursa:

The Prophet asked Abu Bakr for 'Aisha's hand in marriage. Abu Bakr said "But I am your brother." The Prophet said, "You are my brother in Allah's religion and His Book, but she (Aisha) is lawful for me to marry."

    3. Aysha wasn't into puberty yet. She was still playing with dolls.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 8, Book 73, Number 151

    Narrated 'Aisha:

I used to play with the dolls in the presence of the Prophet, and my girl friends also used to play with me. When Allah's Apostle used to enter (my dwelling place) they used to hide themselves, but the Prophet would call them to join and play with me. (The playing with the dolls and similar images is forbidden, but it was allowed for 'Aisha at that time, as she was a little girl, not yet reached the age of puberty.) (Fateh-al-Bari page 143, Vol.13)

Request to moderators: Please do not edit this post, I have provided facts for my claims.

  4. Many (not all) early Rehats don't mention Kakkaars by name but refer to them such as; don't shave your beard (= kes), do not sleep naked (= kachehra), etc.

Well many manuscripts are in several universities in Punjab and also Uttaranchal, nobody cared to research about them. There is one early 1700s Rehatnama which is in Patiala. Most of the Rehatnamas known to us are fake: even Padam says that in his book.

Just go to Tankhahnama in Padams book and you will find MS770.

(It is the second Rehat - from page 56 onwards.)

  5. You yourself agree that GurBani is Nirankaar (God). Guru Nanak Sahib was a medium to utter Gurbani - they weren't God themselves.

I feel something is not correct in those translations - since the very mool mantar you quote states Ajooni. And the same Guru Arjan Sahib says So Mukh Jalo Jith Kahe Thakur Joni.

Then Gurbani from SGGS (which you say is Nirankaar) also says Satgur Mera Sada Sada, Na Avey, Na Jaaey.

  6. No, Guru Nanak Sahib were not Parmatma (God) but one with God. There is a difference between that.

Guru Sahib howhever knew The Truth since their birth. They uttered Bani since the age of 5. Whereas others such as Bhagat Ravidas, Bhagat Naamdev, Bhagat Jaidev, Bhagat Kabir, etc had to do Khoj to find Waheguru (God). This shows Guru Nanak Sahib were specially sent by God.

Some Tuks from Bani to back up the above:

    Hao Dhadhi Bekaar Karai Laiyaa

Raat Dihai Kai Vaar Darahu Furmaiyaa

    Dhadhi Sachai Mehal Khasam Bulaia

    Sachi Sifat Salaah Kapra Paiyaa

    Sacha Amrit Naam Bhojan Aiyaa

Gurmati Khadha Raaj Tin Sukh Paiyaa

    Dhadhi Kare Pasao Sabad Vajaiyaa

    Nanak Sach Salahi Puraa Paiyaa

I was a minstrel, out of work, when the Lord took me into His service. To sing His Praises day and night, He gave me His Order, right from the start. My Lord and Master has summoned me, His minstrel, to the True Mansion of His Presence. He has dressed me in the robes of His True Praise and Glory. The Ambrosial Nectar of the True Name has become my food. Those who follow the Guru's Teachings, who eat this food and are satisfied, find peace. His minstrel spreads His Glory, singing and vibrating the Word of His Shabad. O Nanak, praising the True Lord, I have obtained His Perfection.

    (M:1, 150, GGS)

Besides Guru Sahib were in direct contact with God - JAISI MEH AVI KHASAM KI BANI, TAISRA KARE GYAN VE LALO. (O Lalo, I narrate to you Bani the way it comes to me from God)

  7. I got the oppertunity to write on this subject - well I chose this from many others - since the subject affects my faith.

The article is mainly about Burka ban in some schools European countries. I got to analyse it and give my opinion.

I just wanted to ask fellow Sangat to give me few of their ideas which I could add in the text - without sounding like an extremist to my teacher ;D

(Please keep in mind that the article says one can wear religious symbols anywhere but not in school.)
