In an ideal world names would not matter, and the ideal behind the celebration would be of significance. We would all know why we were celebrating what we were celebrating. Sadly, this is not the case.

A couple of years ago, at work, I was asked why Sikhs celebrated Diwali despite not 'believing in' Rama and Sita etc. This did shock me, as until that time I was unaware that the knowledge of Bandi Choor Diwas was not infact common knowledge among Sikhs.

Bearing this in mind, and the confusion in Sikh minds regarding the puropse of the celebration, I think it has now become a neccesity to start calling the festival Bani Choor as opposed to Diwali, as the latter has created certain misconceptions.

While the name change is not inherently important to those of us aware of the real significance of the celebration, it has nonetheless become a neccesity as many are uncertain of this significance.

At the very least, if the festival is reffered to as Bandi Choor among Sikh circles, at least it would push people to question what this name actually means, and who was released and why. In this amnner, the 'new' name for the festival can act as a tool for educating those of us unaware of the real significance of this day for us.

gosh i feel dat sumtyms, now n then. THe way i fink of it is dat no1 is a frend of mine. only Guru Ji. Every1 else only befrended me 4 their own benefit. Guru Ji befrends us for OUR benefit. Theres a diff huna?

I see these down periods as a phase... it will go away soon trust me. Once u try ur best 2 put ur mind 2 gurbani (back 2 woteva stage u were @ b4.. if u get wot i min) then that phase will finish.

Sher ji, today is not a hindu vaisakhi, unless the months of the 'indian subcontinent' are also to be considered 'Hindu'? In which case please explain use the knowledge you have the relevance behind Guru Sahib using these 'hindu' months in bara maha? Maybe he should have used january february april too??

The akal takhat is controlled by the SGPC we all know that. As such the sgpc has no right to ask the panth or tell the panth to do anything.

So leave it out mate, about your 'official' sikh calendar!! lol

Just hope these people causing further splits in sikhi by interfering where no such action was neccesary get their due from guru ji!

Nonetheless Happy vaisakhi to one and all, individuals may decide to celebrate today and tomorrow because today is Vaisakhi and tomorrow is a day the SGPC have chosn to call vaisakhi- celebrate both days or celebrae the whole month! More we remember the Khalsa and do something positive to mark it, the better it is    :cool:   :T:

If thats your first try then you are doing AMAZING job.. It takes practice to have a perfect dumalla or turban. I think 7m is huge but it's normal size of what ppls use in Punjab. I wear peak style from 4m to 5m long turbey..

Also, in peak style turban, malmal is great but i think malmal kapra is really not recommended for Dumala, as dumala kapra needs to be rough ! (malmal means smooth, soft like silky thingy??)

Parshaad. wot dus it contain? Flour, Butter, Sugar. 3 Sources of highest amout of energy.

And parshaad, if u eat lil in guru ji;s darbaar, its then Gur Parsaad (guru's kirpa) if loads, then its just normal kara parshaad. (read form sant Niranjan Singh Ji's book)

I dont wanna say nething else coz this explains my thoughts..

In issues like this, where it is a case of too much of something, why not maintain the Religious something and cut the rest?
