Just to clarify , the real credit goes to the members of this forum where the original information was pasted up on the day of the broadcast.
This was then taken up by the Sikh Media Monitoring Group and led to the apology from the BBC (after an initial denial of course).
Please continue to flag up these issues and together we can prevent misleading information being broadcast to the masses.
Lord Singh kindly provided the comment for the article, after the apology was given.

I say all sikhs should boycott Virgin Active Gyms worldwide until sikhs are allowed in with kirpans. A facebook group should be set up spreading this message and a petition signed to overturn this rule.
If it's not overturned, they'll be losing a lot of business, sikhs all over the world are getting fit and healthy to be able to better focus on paath and naam and the loss of business might hit them abit.
there are loads of Sikhs that attend that gym as it is in west london, I terminated my membership on the spot in protest, they should too !

Thanks for the sound advice, and yes it is important to take it further to prevent this happening in the future as well as an opportunity to educate others. Kirpan is not a weapon.
Apparently when it is their own property they can do what they like. Whats next no turbans in the gym?

After being thrown out of one of their gyms for my kirpan accidentally showing, I wrote to VA and received the following, has anyone else had similar treatment at their gym ?
Thank you for your email of 11 September 2010, please accept my apologies for the delay in replying.
I can clarify our position regarding the wearing of a kirpan. Virgin Active as a company will not allow members to enter our facilities with any object that could be deemed a weapon. I understand you referring to your religion when discussing this matter with Amanda religion, however on researching this, I can see that we do not have a legal obligation to allow you to wear your kirpan.
May I take this opportunity to refer you to our club rules, specifically:
- You must be dressed in suitable attire at all times when on Club premises and appropriate exercise clothing is required whilst exercising in a Club. Guidance as to suitable attire may be obtained from the Club General Manager who may, at his/her discretion, require you to leave a Club premises or part of a Club premises, if your attire is not considered suitable.
On the date in question, Amanda consulted advice from Head Office and was advised that if you would not cooperate and remove the kirpan, that you should be requested to leave the premises.
I realise this may not be the response you were hoping for, however I trust I have clarified our position on this matter.
If you require any further information or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

he is in prison for life which means he must have done something very bad
he would also like to have visitors, from my correspondence he has a great love for Sikhi and really regrets being in the situation he is in

sadh sangat ji i bring you the sad case of a paji currently serving a life sentence in HMP Brixton. He has made contact with us through letters, and is looking for sangat to write to him. He is fairly young and has been trying to contact youth organisations and youth in general.

Paji has no internet access and only letters as a form of communicating, please empathise with his situation we have the luxury of sangat and internet etc.
Paji in particular has a passion for Gatka and has requested Gatka DVDs, I have sent the only two DVDs I have. A humble benti to all those that have any gatka DVDs could they please send to us or directly post to him.
Let's not forget our brother in prison.

Sadly, I noticed from some of these sikh singles match maker events that the men were very keen (happy to consider divorcees) but the ladies were rejecting guys on their jobs “he’s a bus driver” or “he’s not as educated as I am” were some of the comments passed.
