So then theres no point in moaning about how bollywood sterotypes Sardars right. "because there are so many like that!". Geezer only reason is because majority of Sikhs are from what you would call a jatt background. Lets be realistic most Sikhs are not amritdhari or even keshdhari (ok, you can argue the definition of a Sikh and we all no a Sikh is amritdhari, but we all know we class people as Sikh just because they have Sikh ancestory or identify with the faith. As only a small minority are Amritdhari).
JSinghnz, I say I'm a proud Sikh, but I'm only accepted as one by more orthodox Sikhs when is required. E.g would be when we need numbers then we are Sikhs otherwise we are not. (I do not grow kesh). Like census in UK, or 1984 rememberance rally 'come down to your local gurdwara if you never tied a turban and get someone to help, we want a sea of orange', or how about the riots in summer (don't know about Brum), but not many tyar bar tyar Singhs around.
Also i don't see the reason as to why if i have Jatt (Sandhu) heritage I should need to be ashamed of it, I'm not saying YO! look at me - mere Jatt AHH!, Like some Sikhs from certains backgrounds will be ashamed of their background. (like non-amritdhari). We all know Sikhi has no place for caste system BUT don't be so naive to even think it doesn't exist. Theres so many Gurdwareh based on caste, like just look at the Ramgharia Bunga's in vicnity of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Yes I know the history of why Ramgarhia is associated with a caste. As until Misl period their was no such caste association. It's all to do with Jassa Singh (not Alhuwalia), who lived in his fort named Ram Garh so all artisans espically tarkhans as was Jassa Singh Ramgharia, took it on. But unfortunately the point I'm making is even Sri Harmandir Sahib has in it's vacinty caste asssociation.
So you will not understand the conveyed message and carry on like a broken record that you are a so called member of a caste
and I am not naive. I am only trying to break this mindset of ignorant people like you.
Mod Note: Sangat ji, please refrain from using any derogatory words, remarks on the forum. Thank you.

Okay, if we stop talking about it and close our eyes hopefully it will go away.
Do you reckon I started this thread to make anyone stop or closing our to
this evil in our religion. I started this is to try to change our petty mindset
and be proud to call ourselves SIKHS.

Gurdssingh, that stereotype is true, it really isn't a stereotype anymore. People are doing bhangra on their parents jameen, cutting their hair and going into alcoholism.
Singh559, this discussion is about ignoring and snubbing all kind of stereotypes. This discussion is about changing our way of thinking. The whole idea
is to stop talking of caste and creed in our religion. FULL STOP.

That is exactly what I am trying to convey that there is no caste system in Sikhism but we have been divided on the basis of caste by our enemies.
I will see I have succeeded in getting this message across to you when you stop saying,"I'm actually married to someone who in caste system is higher status than me." and start saying I have no caste because I am a PROUD SIKH.

i don't think the video was that great. Only after about 5.20 mins was good - less than 1 minute of footage then the Gurbani.
It was just like the typical sterotypes people have of Jatts, (just like Sardars in bollywood movies), It was just Jatt bashing, common a dump guy who didn't have a conversation just read a script of we Jatts did this we did that. Come on it weren't a documentry just a rubbish attempt to show jatts in a bad light as it wasn't balanced as every thing was conteracted by the Sardar, it made him look more intelligent.
Only the Singh at the end talked sense.
Thank God, you saw some sense at least. When will you grow out of your bashing syndrome and learn to call the spade a spade.

I cant really see the point myself..pointless circus act. Ok it does take skill and no doubt a lot of practise some of those stunts can easily go wrong. They are hardly warriors though. Stick them in a ring with any amatuer boxer, kickboxer, martial artist and I bet they wouldnt last long.
Would you ever see old school Puratan Singhs doing "circus" acts like this ? No...because it's pointless.. Khalsa train for warfare and uphold of dharam not for enterntaining crowds..
Of couse it is pointless to see anything positive by some people but that's life.

Thanks for the feedback, Sikh Sangat.
Let us all pledge to remove this curse of casteism from our religion.
Casteism was promoted in our religion by our enemies to divide and weaken us.
We all need to wake up and understand this move of our enemies within and outside our fold
and abolish this stigma once and forever.

One of the best documentaries ever on caste system in Sikhism and the need to abolish it from our religion.
We need to make all efforts to snub and insult anyone who calls himself a Jatt Sikh, Bhapa Sikh, Khatri Sikh and so on
instead of being PROUD TO BE A SIKH.

Modern day -Fat guy who eats all day and has bad gas.............................
Just describes your user name. So does not surprise me that your views reflect that they are coming from your stomach instead of the top storey.

It was a fantastic effort never seen before. It showed guts and glory. It showed masculinity, strength and there was nothing gay about it.

There was a program on SikhChannel today and Italian JatheBandis have a meeting with Italian AirPort Authorities this week.
Please keep the sangat informed of any further developments in this case.

Let us talk action, Sikh Sangat. Can someone get us an email address of the Minister in charge of the Italian airports to whom all of us can write to protest against this attack on our identity.

Amitabh has written a letter to Akal Takht pleading innocenc The Jathedar has asked for evidence from Sikh organisations in this case.

When will this idiocy of the Italians and other Europeans/Americans stop? Sikh Sangat from all over the world needs to take strong action against the continuous violation of our human rights. All Sikh organisations have to take a united stand and put a stop to this nonsense once and for ever.

Very well written and thought provoking article.
Each one of us who thinks he or she is a Sikh has a responsibility to show the world that Sikhism is the greatest religion in the world
and is the remedy to all the maladies affecting humanity today. We need to lead by example and become leaders in what ever sphere
we are in, be it studies, professions, business, politics, sports etc. Then only will RAJ KAREGA KHALSA.

I cannot understand why even simple things cannot be understood by the readers here. Akal Takht has taken the right step because Manpreet Badal has
dared to challenge the authority of the Akal Takht by visiting Chuha Sauda. Akal Takht had directed all Sikhs to boycott the bastards in 2007. Whoever
disregards the directive should be thrown out of the Panth. That includes the core committee of SAD if they have interacted with the bastards after 2007.

Absolute rubbish.
This is one man standing up for himself, if you look at the reaction of the viewers you will see empathy.
Like the Iraqi shoe thrower, he fights against tyranny the only way he knows how.
To try and score cheap political points achieves nothing but undermines this brave man's stance.
Very well said. The whole world is praising his bravery but here we have some writers insulting his courage.

Assistance Needed - Death Of A Friend

Go to their house and offer your condolences to the family.
Ask when the funeral is and if it suits you, you can go to that.
After a few days, the family usually has a prayer ceremony at the local Gurudwara
which you should join.
