What sort of love is this, which clings to duality? ਨਾਨਕ ਆਸਕੁ ਕਾਂਢੀਐ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ naanak aasak kaaNdhee-ai sad hee rahai samaa-ay. O Nanak, he/she alone is called a lover, who remains forever immersed in absorption. ਚੰਗੈ ਚੰਗਾ ਕਰਿ ਮੰਨੇ ਮੰਦੈ ਮੰਦਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ changai changa kar mannay mandai mandaa ho-ay. O my mind, why are you so sad? My True Guru is Perfect. ਮਨਸਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਭਰਪੂਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ mansaa kaa daataa sabh sukh niDhaan amrit sar sad hee bharpooraa. ||1|| rahaa-o. He is the Giver of blessings, the treasure of all comforts; His Ambrosial Pool of Nectar is always overflowing. ||1||Pause|| ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ charan kamal rid antar Dhaaray. One who enshrines His Lotus Feet within the heart, ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੨॥ pargatee jot milay raam pi-aaray. ||2|| meets the Beloved Lord; the Divine Light is revealed to him. ||2|| ਪੰਚ ਸਖੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥ panch sakhee mil mangal gaa-i-aa. The five companions have met together to sing the songs of joy. ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ anhad banee naad vajaa-i-aa. ||3|| The unstruck melody, the sound current of the Naad, vibrates and resounds. ||3|| ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥ gur naanak tuthaa mili-aa har raa-ay. O Nanak, when the Guru is totally pleased, one meets the Lord, the King. ਸੁਖਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੭॥ sukh rain vihaanee sahj subhaa-ay. ||4||17|| Then, the night of one's life passes in peace and natural ease. ||4||17|| Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee -Ang 375
  3. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ aasaa mehlaa 3. Aasaa, Third Mehl: ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਵਿਗਾੜਹਿ ॥ manmukh mareh mar maran vigaarheh. The self-willed manmukhs are dying; they are wasting away in death. ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਆਤਮ ਸੰਘਾਰਹਿ ॥ doojai bhaa-ay aatam sanghaareh. In the love of duality, they murder their own souls. ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਗੂਤਾ ॥ mayraa mayraa kar kar vigootaa. Crying out, "Mine, mine!", they are ruined. ਆਤਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਭਰਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੂਤਾ ॥੧॥ aatam na cheenHai bharmai vich sootaa. ||1|| They do not remember their souls; they are asleep in superstition. ||1|| ਮਰੁ ਮੁਇਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ mar mu-i-aa sabday mar jaa-ay. He alone dies a real death, who dies in the Word of the Shabad. ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮ ਜਾਣਾਈ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ustat nindaa gur sam jaanaa-ee is jug meh laahaa har jap lai jaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o. The Guru has inspired me to realize, that praise and slander are one and the same; in this world, the profit is obtained by chanting the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣ ਗਰਭ ਗਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ naam vihoon garabh gal jaa-ay. Those who lack the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are dissolved within the womb. ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇ ॥ birthaa janam doojai lobhaa-ay. Useless is the birth of those who are lured by duality. ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੀ ਦੁਖਿ ਜਲੈ ਸਬਾਈ ॥ naam bihoonee dukh jalai sabaa-ee. Without the Naam, all are burning in pain. ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੨॥ satgur poorai boojh bujhaa-ee. ||2|| The Perfect True Guru has given me this understanding. ||2|| ਮਨੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਬਹੁ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ॥ man chanchal baho chotaa khaa-ay. The fickle mind is struck down so many times. ਏਥਹੁ ਛੁੜਕਿਆ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ aythahu chhurhki-aa tha-ur na paa-ay. Having lost this opportunity, no place of rest shall be found. ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਵਾਸੁ ॥ garabh jon vistaa kaa vaas. Cast into the womb of reincarnation, the mortal lives in manure; ਤਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥ tith ghar manmukh karay nivaas. ||3|| in such a home, the self-willed manmukh takes up residence. ||3|| ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥ apunay satgur ka-o sadaa bal jaa-ee. I am forever a sacrifice to my True Guru; ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥ gurmukh jotee jot milaa-ee. the light of the Gurmukh blends with the Divine Light of the Lord. ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥ nirmal banee nij ghar vaasaa. Through the Immaculate Bani of the Word, the mortal dwells within the home of his own inner self. ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੪੫॥ naanak ha-umai maaray sadaa udaasaa. ||4||6||45|| O Nanak, he conquers his ego, and remains forever detached. ||4||6||45|| Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee -Ang 362
  4. ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ sorath mehlaa 3. Sorat'h, Third Mehl: ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਭਰਮਾਈ ॥ bin satgur sayvay bahutaa dukh laagaa jug chaaray bharmaa-ee. Without serving the True Guru, he suffers in terrible pain, and throughout the four ages, he wanders aimlessly. ਹਮ ਦੀਨ ਤੁਮ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਦਾਤੇ ਸਬਦੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧॥ ham deen tum jug jug daatay sabday deh bujhaa-ee. ||1|| I am poor and meek, and throughout the ages, You are the Great Giver - please, grant me the understanding of the Shabad. ||1|| ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ har jee-o kirpaa karahu tum pi-aaray. O Dear Beloved Lord, please show mercy to me. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਆਧਾਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ satgur daataa mayl milaavhu har naam dayvhu aaDhaaray. rahaa-o. Unite me in the Union of the True Guru, the Great Giver, and give me the support of the Lord's Name. ||Pause|| ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ mansaa maar dubiDhaa sahj samaanee paa-i-aa naam apaaraa. Conquering my desires and duality, I have merged in celestial peace, and I have found the Naam, the Name of the Infinite Lord. ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ har ras chaakh man nirmal ho-aa kilbikh kaatanhaaraa. ||2|| I have tasted the sublime essence of the Lord, and my soul has become immaculately pure; the Lord is the Destroyer of sins. ||2|| ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰਹੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੀਵਹੁ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਤਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ sabad marahu fir jeevhu sad hee taa fir maran na ho-ee. Dying in the Word of the Shabad, you shall live forever, and you shall never die again. ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੩॥ amrit naam sadaa man meethaa sabday paavai ko-ee. ||3|| The Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam is ever-sweet to the mind; but how few are those who obtain the Shabad. ||3|| ਦਾਤੈ ਦਾਤਿ ਰਖੀ ਹਥਿ ਅਪਣੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਈ ॥ daatai daat rakhee hath apnai jis bhaavai tis day-ee. The Great Giver keeps His Gifts in His Hand; He gives them to those with whom He is pleased. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਦਰਗਹ ਜਾਪਹਿ ਸੇਈ ॥੪॥੧੧॥ naanak naam ratay sukh paa-i-aa dargeh jaapeh say-ee. ||4||11|| O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, they find peace, and in the Court of the Lord, they are exalted. ||4||11|| Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee -Ang 603

  8. waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh bhai sahib ji.... well...i actually don't have any knowledge whatsoever about dasmesh pita ji's bani..im trying to learn more at the moment....but basically i just go to sridasam.org and all the sections of sri dasam granth are there for you to view.... but if im looking for a certain bani....and i guess some of the translation in advance...i just search using those keywords....and eventualy i find what im looking for...sometimes it take a while for me though...but eventually i find it...(i know this isn't a very good method at all) sorry i couldnt be of much help...you probably should ask someone who has good background knowledge on sri dasam granth sahib ji.... alls i can say is that is is breathtaking to read....absolutely amazing....waheguroo... please forgive any mistakes. waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh
  9. ਤ੍ਵਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ਸ੍ਵੈਯੇ BY THY GRACE. SWAYYAS ਦੀਨਿਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਸੰਤ ਉਬਾਰ ਗਨੀਮਨ ਗਾਰੈ ॥ He always Sustains the Lowly, protects the saints and destroys the enemies. ਪੱਛ ਪਸੂ ਨਗ ਨਾਗ ਨਰਾਧਿਪ ਸਰਬ ਸਮੈ ਸਭ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੈ ॥ At all times he Sustains all, animals, birds, mountains (or trees), serpents and men (kings of men). ਪੋਖਤ ਹੈ ਜਲ ਮੈ ਥਲ ਮੈ ਪਲ ਮੈ ਕਲਿ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ॥ He Sustains in an instant all the beings living in water and on land and doth not ponder over their actions. ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਦਇਆ ਨਿਧਿ ਦੋਖਨ ਦੇਖਤ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਦੇਤ ਨ ਹਾਰੈ ॥੧॥੨੪੩॥ The Merciful Lord of the Lowly and the treasure of Mercy sees their blemishes, but doth not fail in His Bounty. 1.243. ਦਾਹਤ ਹੈ ਦੁਖ ਦੋਖਨ ਕੌ ਦਲ ਦੁੱਜਨ ਕੇ ਪਲ ਮੈ ਦਲ ਡਾਰੈ ॥ He burns the sufferings and blemishes and in an instant mashes the forces of the vicious people. ਖੰਡ ਅਖੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸੰਭਾਰੈ ॥ He even destroys them who are mighty and Glorious and assail the unassailable and responds the devotion of perfect love. ਪਾਰ ਨ ਪਾਇ ਸਕੈ ਪਦਮਾਪਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਅਭੇਦ ਉਚਾਰੈ ॥ Even Vishnu cannot know His end and the Vedas and Katebs (Semitic Scriptures) call Him Indiscriminate. ਰੋਜੀ ਹੀ ਰਾਜ ਬਿਲੋਕਤ ਰਾਜਕ ਰੋਖ ਰੂਹਾਨ ਕੀ ਰੋਜੀ ਨ ਟਾਰੈ ॥੨॥੨੪੪॥ The Provider-Lord always sees our secrets, even then in anger He doth not stop His munificence.2.244. ਕੀਟ ਪਤੰਗ ਕੁਰੰਗ ਭੁਜੰਗਮ ਭੂਤ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਭਵਾਨ ਬਨਾਏ ॥ He Created in the past, creates in the present and shall create in the future the beings including insects, moths, deer and snakes. ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵ ਖਪੇ ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ਨ ਭੇਵ ਲਖਿਓ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਸਿਓ ਭਰਮਾਏ ॥ The goods and demons have been consumed in ego, but could not know the mystery of the Lord, being engrossed in delusion. ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਕਤੇਬ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਹਸੇਬ ਥਕੇ ਕਰ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਆਏ ॥ The Vedas, Puranas, Katebs and the Quran have tired of giving His account, but the Lord could not be comprehended. ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਉ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਕਿਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਪਦਮਾਪਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥੨੪੫॥ Without the impact of perfect love, who hath realized Lord-God with grace? 3.245. ਆਦਿ ਅਨੰਤ ਅਗਾਧ ਅਦ੍ਵੈਖ ਸੁ ਭੂਤ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਭਵਾਨ ਅਭੈ ਹੈ ॥ The Primal, Infinite, Unfathomable Lord is without malice and is fearless in the past, present and future. ਅੰਤਿ ਬਿਹੀਨ ਅਨਾਤਮ ਆਪ ਅਦਾਗ ਅਦੋਖ ਅਛਿੱਦ੍ਰ ਅਛੈ ਹੈ ॥ He is endless, Himself Selfless, stainless, blemishless, flawless and invincible. ਲੋਗਨ ਕੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਹਰਤਾ ਜਲ ਮੈ ਥਲ ਮੈ ਭਰਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਵੈ ਹੈ ॥ He is the Creator and Destroyer of all in water and on land and also their Sustainer-Lord. ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਦਇਆ ਕਰ ਸ੍ਰੀਪਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਪਦਮਾਪਤਿ ਏ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੪੬॥ He, the Lord of maya, is Compassionate to the Lowly, source of Mercy and most beautiful.4.246. ਕਾਮ ਨ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨ ਲੋਭ ਨ ਮੋਹ ਨ ਰੋਗ ਨ ਸੋਗ ਨ ਭੋਗ ਨ ਭੈ ਹੈ ॥ He is without lust, anger, greed, attachment, ailment, sorrow, enjoyment and fear. ਦੇਹ ਬਿਹੀਨ ਸਨੇਹ ਸਭੋ ਤਨ ਨੇਹ ਬਿਰਕਤ ਅਗੇਹ ਅਛੈ ਹੈ ॥ He is body-less, loving everybody but without worldly attachment, invincible and cannot be held in grasp. ਜਾਨ ਕੋ ਦੇਤ ਅਜਾਨ ਕੋ ਦੇਤ ਜਮੀਨ ਕੋ ਦੇਤ ਜਮਾਨ ਕੋ ਦੈ ਹੈ ॥ He provides sustenance to all animate and inanimate beings and all those living on the earth and in the sky. ਕਾਹੇ ਕੋ ਡੋਲਤ ਹੈ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਸੁਧ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਪਦਮਾਪਤਿ ਲੈਹੈ ॥੫॥੨੪੭॥ Why dost thou waver, O creature! The beautiful Lord of maya will take care of thee. 5.247. ਰੋਗਨ ਤੇ ਅਰ ਸੋਗਨ ਤੇ ਜਲ ਜੋਗਨ ਤੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਬਚਾਵੈ ॥ He protects in many blows, but none doth inflict thy body. ਸੱਤ੍ਰੁ ਅਨੇਕ ਚਲਾਵਤ ਘਾਵ ਤਊ ਤਨ ਏਕ ਨ ਲਾਗਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ The enemy strikes many blows, but none doth inflict thy body. ਰਾਖਤ ਹੈ ਅਪਨੋ ਕਰ ਦੈ ਕਰ ਪਾਪ ਸੰਬੂਹ ਨ ਭੇਟਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ When the Lord protects with his own hands, but none of the sins even comes near thee. ਔਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਕਹਾ ਕਹ ਤੋ ਸੌਂ ਸੁ ਪੇਟ ਹੀ ਕੇ ਪਟ ਬੀਚ ਬਚਾਵੈ ॥੬॥੨੪੮॥ What else should I say unto you, He protects (the infant) even in the membranes of the womb.6.248. ਜੱਛ ਭੁਜੰਗ ਸੁ ਦਾਨਵ ਦੇਵ ਅਭੇਵ ਤੁਮੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥ The Yakshas, serpents, demons and gods meditate on Thee considering Thee as Indiscriminant. ਭੂਮਿ ਅਕਾਸ ਪਤਾਲ ਰਸਾਤਲ ਜੱਛ ਭੁਜੰਗ ਸਭੈ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਆਵੈ ॥ The beings of the earth, Yakshas of the sky and the serpents of the nether-world bow their heads before thee. ਪਾਇ ਸਕੈ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਹੂ ਕੋ ਨੇਤ ਹੀ ਨੇਤਹ ਬੇਦ ਬਤਾਵੈ ॥ None could comprehend the limits of Thy Glory and even the Vedas declare Thee as `Neti, Neti` ਖੋਜ ਥਕੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਖੁਜੀਆ ਸੁਰ ਹਾਰ ਪਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਾਥ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੭॥੨੪੯॥ All the searchers have got tired in their search and none of them could realize the Lord. 7.249. ਨਾਰਦ ਸੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਨਨ ਸੇ ਰੁਮਨਾਰਿਖ ਸੇ ਸਭ ਹੂੰ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਾਇਓ ॥ Narada, Brahma and the sage Rumna all have together sung Thy Praises. ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਨ ਭੇਦ ਲਖਿਓ ਸਭ ਹਾਰ ਪਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਾਥ ਨ ਆਇਓ ॥ The Vedas and Katebs could not know His sectet; all have got tired, but the Lord could not be realised. ਪਾਇ ਸਕੈ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਰ ਉਮਾਪਿਤ ਸਿੱਧ ਸਨਾਥ ਸਨੰਤਨ ਧਿਆਇਓ ॥ Shiva also could not know His limits; the adepts (Siddhas) alongwith Naths and Sanak etc. meditated upon Him. ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਮਨ ਮੈਂ ਜਿਹ ਕੋ ਅਮਿਤੋਜਿ ਸਭੈ ਜਗੁ ਛਾਇਓ ॥੮॥੨੫੦॥ Concentrate upon Him in thy mind, whose Unlimited Glory is spread in all the world.8.250. ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਕਤੇਬ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਅਭੇਦ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਸਭੈ ਪਚ ਹਾਰੇ ॥ The Vedas, Puranas, Katebs and the Quran and kings…all are tired and greatly afflicted by not knowing the Lord`s mystery. ਭੇਦ ਨ ਪਾਇ ਸਕਿਓ ਅਨਭੇਦ ਕੋ ਖੇਦਤ ਹੈ ਅਨਛੇਦ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ॥ They could not comprehend the mystery of the Indis-criminate Lord, being greatly aggrieved, they recite Name of the Unassailable Lord. ਰਾਗ ਨ ਰੂਪ ਨ ਰੇਖ ਨ ਰੰਗ ਨ ਸਾਕ ਨ ਸੋਗ ਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਤਿਹਾਰੇ ॥ The Lord who is without affection, form, mark, colour, relative, and sorrow, abides with thee. ਆਦਿ ਅਨਾਦਿ ਅਗਾਧ ਅਭੇਖ ਅਦ੍ਵੈਖ ਜਪਿਓ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੯॥੨੫੧॥ Those who have remembered that Primal , beginningless, guiseless and blemishless Lord, they have ferried across their whole clan.9.251 ਤੀਰਥ ਕੋਟ ਕੀਏ ਇਸਨਾਨ ਦੀਏ ਬਹੁ ਦਾਨ ਮਹਾ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ Having taken bath at millions of pilgrim-stations, having given many gifts in charity and giving observed important fasts. ਦੇਸ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਕਰ ਭੇਸ ਤਪੋਧਨ ਕੇਸ ਧਰੇ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ Having wandered in the garb of an ascetic in many countries and having worn matted hair, the beloved Lord could not be realised. ਆਸਨ ਕੋਟ ਕਰੇ ਅਸਟਾਂਗ ਧਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਨਿਆਸ ਕਰੇ ਮੁਖ ਕਾਰੇ ॥ Adopting millions of postures and observing the eight steps of Yoga, touching the limbs while reciting the mantras and blackening the face. ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਅਕਾਲ ਭਜੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਅੰਤ ਕੋ ਅੰਤ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥੧੦॥੨੫੨॥ But without the remembrance of the Non-temporal and Merciful Lord of the lowly, one will ultimately go to the abode of Yama. 10.252.   11. (ਭੈਰਉ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ) ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਮਾਈ ॥ gur sayvaa tay bhagat kamaa-ee. Serving the Guru, devotional worship is practiced. ਤਬ ਇਹ ਮਾਨਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥ tab ih maanas dayhee paa-ee. Then, this human body is obtained. ਇਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਦੇਵ ॥ is dayhee ka-o simrahi dayv. Even the gods long for this human body. ਸੋ ਦੇਹੀ ਭਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥ so dayhee bhaj har kee sayv. ||1|| So vibrate that human body, and think of serving the Lord. ||1|| ਭਜਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭੂਲਿ ਮਤ ਜਾਹੁ ॥ bhajahu gobind bhool mat jaahu. Vibrate, and meditate on the Lord of the Universe, and never forget Him. ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਏਹੀ ਲਾਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ maanas janam kaa ayhee laahu. ||1|| rahaa-o. This is the blessed opportunity of this human birth. ||1||Pause|| ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜਰਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਨਹੀ ਆਇਆ ॥ jab lag jaraa rog nahee aa-i-aa. As long as the disease of old age has not come to the body, ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਕਾਲਿ ਗ੍ਰਸੀ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਇਆ ॥ jab lag kaal garsee nahee kaa-i-aa. and as long as death has not come and seized the body, ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਬਿਕਲ ਭਈ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥ jab lag bikal bha-ee nahee baanee. and as long as your voice has not lost its power, ਭਜਿ ਲੇਹਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਨੀ ॥੨॥ bhaj layhi ray man saarigpaanee. ||2|| O mortal being, vibrate and meditate on the Lord of the World. ||2|| ਅਬ ਨ ਭਜਸਿ ਭਜਸਿ ਕਬ ਭਾਈ ॥ ab na bhajas bhajas kab bhaa-ee. If you do not vibrate and meditate on Him now, when will you, O Sibling of Destiny? ਆਵੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਭਜਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥ aavai ant na bhaji-aa jaa-ee. When the end comes, you will not be able to vibrate and meditate on Him. ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਅਬ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ jo kichh karahi so-ee ab saar. Whatever you have to do - now is the best time to do it. ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਹੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ fir pathutaahu na paavhu paar. ||3|| Otherwise, you shall regret and repent afterwards, and you shall not be carried across to the other side. ||3|| ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੋ ਲਾਇਆ ਸੇਵ ॥ so sayvak jo laa-i-aa sayv. He alone is a servant, whom the Lord enjoins to His service. ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਪਾਏ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ॥ tin hee paa-ay niranjan dayv. He alone attains the Immaculate Divine Lord. ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਕਪਾਟ ॥ gur mil taa kay khulHay kapaat. Meeting with the Guru, his doors are opened wide, ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੋਨੀ ਬਾਟ ॥੪॥ bahur na aavai jonee baat. ||4|| and he does not have to journey again on the path of reincarnation. ||4|| ਇਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਰ ॥ ihee tayraa a-osar ih tayree baar. This is your chance, and this is your time. ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤੂ ਦੇਖੁ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ॥ ghat bheetar too daykh bichaar. Look deep into your own heart, and reflect on this. ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਜੀਤਿ ਕੈ ਹਾਰਿ ॥ kahat kabeer jeet kai haar. Let the Lord's Name be the seed, contentment the plow, and your humble dress the fence. ਭਾਉ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਜੰਮਸੀ ਸੇ ਘਰ ਭਾਗਠ ਦੇਖੁ ॥੧॥ bhaa-o karam kar jammsee say ghar bhaagath daykh. ||1|| Doing deeds of love, the seed shall sprout, and you shall see your home flourish. ||1|| ਬਾਬਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ baabaa maa-i-aa saath na ho-ay. O Baba, the 'wealth' of Maya does not go with anyone. ਇਨਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ in maa-i-aa jag mohi-aa virlaa boojhai ko-ay. rahaa-o. This Maya has bewitched the world, but only a rare few understand this. ||Pause|| ਹਾਣੁ ਹਟੁ ਕਰਿ ਆਰਜਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਵਥੁ ॥ haan hat kar aarjaa sach naam kar vath. Make your ever-decreasing life your shop, and make the Lord's Name your merchandise. ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੋਚ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਂਡਸਾਲ ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਰਖੁ ॥ surat soch kar bhaaNdsaal tis vich tis no rakh. Make understanding and contemplation your warehouse, and in that warehouse, store the Lord's Name. ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਸਿਉ ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰਿ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ਮਨ ਹਸੁ ॥੨॥ vanjaari-aa si-o vanaj kar lai laahaa man has. ||2|| Deal with the Lord's dealers, earn your profits, and rejoice in your mind. ||2|| ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਸਉਦਾਗਰੀ ਸਤੁ ਘੋੜੇ ਲੈ ਚਲੁ ॥ sun saasat sa-udaagree sat ghorhay lai chal. Let your trade be listening to scripture, and let Truth be the horses you take to sell. ਖਰਚੁ ਬੰਨੁ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਮਤੁ ਮਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਕਲੁ ॥ kharach bann chang-aa-ee-aa mat man jaaneh kal. Gather up merits for your travelling expenses, and do not think of tomorrow in your mind. ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਕੈ ਦੇਸਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਤਾ ਸੁਖਿ ਲਹਹਿ ਮਹਲੁ ॥੩॥ nirankaar kai days jaahi taa sukh laheh mahal. ||3|| When you arrive in the land of the Formless Lord, you shall find peace in the Mansion of His Presence. ||3|| ਲਾਇ ਚਿਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਕੰਮੁ ॥ laa-ay chit kar chaakree man naam kar kamm. Let your service be the focusing of your consciousness, and let your occupation be the placing of faith in the Naam. ਬੰਨੁ ਬਦੀਆ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਵਣੀ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਆਖੈ ਧੰਨੁ ॥ bann badee-aa kar Dhaavnee taa ko aakhai Dhan. First, Allah created the Light; then, by His Creative Power, He made all mortal beings. ਏਕ ਨੂਰ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਕਉਨ ਭਲੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਦੇ ॥੧॥ ayk noor tay sabh jag upji-aa ka-un bhalay ko manday. ||1|| From the One Light, the entire universe welled up. The One True Lord abides in all; by His making, everything is made. ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ਸੁ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਨੈ ਬੰਦਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥ hukam pachhaanai so ayko jaanai bandaa kahee-ai so-ee. ||3|| Whoever realizes the Hukam of His Command, knows the One Lord. He alone is said to be the Lord's slave. ||3|| ਅਲਹੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਗੁੜੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਮੀਠਾ ॥ alhu alakh na jaa-ee lakhi-aa gur gurh deenaa meethaa. The Lord Allah is Unseen; He cannot be seen.   19. i agree...since there are so many sikhs in uk....if they are mobilized properly and with united front...they can comprise strong lobby group in uk... but i can't talk too much on this...im kind of clueless on the uk scene...i mean im sure there are some sikh orgs working on this right now...?? having a strong voice in the media is essential...it doesn't help sikhs at all when the televisions flash all these photos of bin laden on the nightly news.... ppl see this...they then demonize the turban and associate with terror.... but its actually really ridiculous....the ppl who do these acts of terror dont wear turbans.... i get really annoyed actually....these guys do these evil acts of terror....and then sikhs are left to take the wrap for it... so educating ppl about sikh identity in the media is a must... good point also...uk is indebted to the thousands of sikhs who gave their lives fighting in both world wars....
  20. waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh well...im pretty sure sikhs would face some sort of backlash if there was to be an al qaida attack in uk...even tho sikhs are largest minority community there... many already faced racism after the 7/7 attack i can say from persoanl experience....im from california...and after the 9/11 terrorist attack....i was still in high school then...and of course kids are not as mature then...but i got called osama bin laden on a daily basis...and had ppl tryin to pick fight with me all the time...cuz i was the only sikh in the school...and im from a small rural town...which made it even worse....that was seriously bad time right after 9/11.... now couple years later...things have eased up a little i think...that plus ppl are more mature at the university...but still...ppl get very nervous when i walk on the subway...or the bus system.... its even worse if they see your sri sahib...haha.... but i dunno...in US majority of ppl have no clue who Sikhs are...they usually assume im muslim.... im guessing more ppl must be educated about Sikhi in the UK where Sikhs are more represented in the population..?? so hopefully there wouldn't as big of a backlash... let's just pray to Akal Purakh Ji that we don't have to face such a situation... please forgive any mistakes waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh

But at the end of the day, it is also a tree. The evergreen Dukhbhanjani Beri, its branches preening into the waters of the sarovar at the Harmandar Sahib in Amritsar since centuries, has now caught the fancy of forest scientists, who have not only produced its clones but are also undertaking a DNA study to see what makes it so resistant to vagaries of time. The plant appears much older than the chronicled history of the common ber (Ziziphus jujuba) —the tree that bears the small sweet-sour fruit that is a favourite of kids across the subcontinent and finds common mention in folk literature. Many believe it possesses miraculous powers, many collect the leaves or the fruits that drop down, and most touch it and bow before it. Under normal circumstances, beri plants need regular manuring, pruning and pest control, but the Dukhbhanjani Beri is surviving on without any such care. Historians believe that all three beri plants on the Harmandar Sahib premises — the Lachi Ber, Dukhbhanjani Ber and Ber Baba Budha Ji — were there before the shrine was raised. Branch cuttings from the sacred plant were brought from Amritsar some time back to the Forest Research and Training Centre at Hoshiarpur. which raised saplings from those and handed them over to the Genetics Division of the Indian Council of Forest Research and Education (JCFRE), Dehradun.Scientists have prepared clones of the plant using the rooting system of multiplication and now DNA fingerprinting is being done to identify its characteristics and see if it differs from common ber plants. The beri, or the Indian jujube, is a native of the Yunnan province in southern China, Malaysia and Australia. In India, there are about 90 varieties of this plant which have the ability to withstand water-logging as well as drought, but the one under study has shown exceptional resistance. Demands for the cloned plants have started pouring in. Ten clones are ready and under observation in Dehradun and at least one will be sent to the gurdwara at Hazoor Sahib in Nanded .

The poisonous fruit seems sweet to the demented mind, which does not know the difference between good and evil. ਗੁਨ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਢੀ ਅਨ ਭਾਂਤੀ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਫਿਰਿ ਤਾਨਿਆ ॥੧॥ gun tay pareet badhee an bhaaNtee janam maran fir taani-aa. ||1|| Turning away from virtue, his love for other things increases, and he weaves again the web of birth and death. ||1|| ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜਾਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਜਲਤ ਜਾਲ ਜਮ ਫੰਧ ਪਰੇ ॥ jugat jaan nahee ridai nivaasee jalat jaal jam fanDh paray. He does not know the way to the Lord, who dwells within his heart; burning in the trap, he is caught by the noose of death. ਬਿਖੁ ਫਲ ਸੰਚਿ ਭਰੇ ਮਨ ਐਸੇ ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਨ ਬਿਸਰੇ ॥੨॥ bikh fal sanch bharay man aisay param purakh parabh man bisray. ||2|| Gathering the poisonous fruits, he fills his mind with them, and he forgets God, the Supreme Being, from his mind. ||2|| ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸੁ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਧਨੁ ਦੀਆ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਨ ਏਕ ਮਏ ॥ gi-aan parvays gureh Dhan dee-aa Dhi-aan maan man ayk ma-ay. The Guru has given the wealth of spiritual wisdom; practicing meditation, the mind becomes one with Him. ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਮਾਨੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਨੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਏ ॥੩॥ paraym bhagat maanee sukh jaani-aa taripat aghaanay mukat bha-ay. ||3|| Embracing loving devotional worship for the Lord, I have come to know peace; satisfied and satiated, I have been liberated. ||3|| ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ਸਮਾਨੀ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਅਛਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਿਆ ॥ jot samaa-ay samaanee jaa kai achhlee parabh pehchaani-aa. One who is filled with the Divine Light, recognizes the undeceivable Lord God. ਧੰਨੈ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਧਰਣੀਧਰੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਨ ਸੰਤ ਸਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੪॥੧॥ Dhannai Dhan paa-i-aa DharneeDhar mil jan sant samaani-aa. ||4||1|| Dhanna has obtained the Lord, the Sustainer of the World, as his wealth; meeting the humble Saints, he merges in the Lord. ||4||1|| Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee -Ang 487
  23. ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ raamkalee mehlaa 5. Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl: ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਰਤਨੁ ॥ ka-udee badlai ti-aagai ratan. In exchange for a shell, he gives up a jewel. ਛੋਡਿ ਜਾਇ ਤਾਹੂ ਕਾ ਜਤਨੁ ॥ chhod jaa-ay taahoo kaa jatan. He tries to get what he must give up. ਸੋ ਸੰਚੈ ਜੋ ਹੋਛੀ ਬਾਤ ॥ so sanchai jo hochhee baat. He collects those things which are worthless. ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਟੇਢਉ ਜਾਤ ॥੧॥ maa-i-aa mohi-aa taydha-o jaat. ||1|| Enticed by Maya, he takes the crooked path. ||1|| ਅਭਾਗੇ ਤੈ ਲਾਜ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ abhaagay tai laaj naahee. Nectar seems bitter to you, while the poison seems sweet. ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਨੈਨਹੁ ਡੀਠੀ ॥ saakat kee biDh nainhu deethee. Such is your condition, you faithless cynic, which I have seen with my own eyes. ਕੂੜਿ ਕਪਟਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਰੀਝਾਨਾ ॥ koorh kapat ahaNkaar reejhaanaa. You are fond of falsehood, fraud and egotism. ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਤ ਜਨੁ ਬਿਛੂਅ ਡਸਾਨਾ ॥੨॥ naam sunat jan bichhoo-a dasaanaa. ||2|| If you hear the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you feel like you have been stung by a scorpion. ||2|| ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਝੂਰੈ ॥ maa-i-aa kaaran sad hee jhoorai. You continually yearn for Maya, ਮਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੈ ॥ man mukh kabeh na ustat karai. and you never chant the Lord's Praises with your mouth. ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥ nirbha-o nirankaar daataar. The Lord is fearless and formless; He is the Great Giver. ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਕਰੈ ਗਵਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ tis si-o pareet na karai gavaar. ||3|| But you do not love Him, you fool! ||3|| ਸਭ ਸਾਹਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥ sabh saahaa sir saachaa saahu. God, the True King, is above the heads of all kings. ਵੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥ vaymuhtaaj pooraa paatisaahu. He is the independent, perfect Lord King. ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਲਪਟਿਓ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਗਿਰਹ ॥ moh magan lapti-o bharam girah.   24. ਕਬੀਰ ਰੋੜਾ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੁ ਬਾਟ ਕਾ ਤਜਿ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ kabeer rorhaa ho-ay rahu baat kaa taj man kaa abhimaan. Kabeer, let yourself be a pebble on the path; abandon your egotistical pride. ਐਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਤਾਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੧੪੬॥ aisaa ko-ee daas ho-ay taahi milai bhagvaan. ||146|| Such a humble slave shall meet the Lord God. ||146|| ਕਬੀਰ ਰੋੜਾ ਹੂਆ ਤ ਕਿਆ ਭਇਆ ਪੰਥੀ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਇ ॥ kabeer rorhaa hoo-aa ta ki-aa bha-i-aa panthee ka-o dukh day-ay. Kabeer, what good would it be, to be a pebble? It would only hurt the traveller on the path. ਐਸਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਉ ਧਰਨੀ ਮਹਿ ਖੇਹ ॥੧੪੭॥ aisaa tayraa daas hai ji-o Dharnee meh khayh. ||147|| Your slave, O Lord, is like the dust of the earth. ||147|| ਕਬੀਰ ਖੇਹ ਹੂਈ ਤਉ ਕਿਆ ਭਇਆ ਜਉ ਉਡਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਅੰਗ ॥ kabeer khayh hoo-ee ta-o ki-aa bha-i-aa ja-o ud laagai ang. Kabeer, what then, if one could become dust? It is blown up by the wind, and sticks to the body. ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਚਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਉ ਪਾਨੀ ਸਰਬੰਗ ॥੧੪੮॥ har jan aisaa chaahee-ai ji-o paanee sarbang. ||148|| The humble servant of the Lord should be like water, which cleans everything. ||148|| ਕਬੀਰ ਪਾਨੀ ਹੂਆ ਤ ਕਿਆ ਭਇਆ ਸੀਰਾ ਤਾਤਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ kabeer paanee hoo-aa ta ki-aa bha-i-aa seeraa taataa ho-ay. Kabeer, what then, if one could become water? It becomes cold, then hot. ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਚਾਹੀਐ ਜੈਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਹੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੪੯॥ har jan aisaa chaahee-ai jaisaa har hee ho-ay. ||149|| The humble servant of the Lord should be just like the Lord. ||149||
