  1. Does anyone remember seeing Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji at the Birmingham Sanjha Smagam??

is this the same Giani Ji who has now become the Jathedar??

Vedanti quits, Gurbachan Singh to be Takht Jathedar

    Kurukshetra, August 5

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) that assembled here today accepted the resignation submitted by Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti and appointed Giani Gurbachan Singh, head granthi of Harmandar Sahib, as president of the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs.

The meeting of the SGPC was held at Gurdwara Sri Hargobind Sahib and was presided over by Avtar Singh Makkar and attended by 13 of the 15 members. Vedanti had yesterday submitted his resignation to SGPC general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur and executive member Rajinder Singh Mehta, in which he cited health reasons for resigning from the post.

The resignation was today read out by Makkar before the SGPC members and was accepted by 11 of the 13 members present during the meeting. Karnail Singh Panjoli and Gurwinder Singh raised objections against the resignation, alleging that Vedanti was being forced to resign as SAD chief Prakash Singh Badal wished so. Bhajan Kaur and Santok Singh did not attend the meeting.

Panjoli alleged that Vedanti had fallen off the good books of Badal for his having raised the demand for a separate state for the Sikhs during his recent visit to the US and for having asked Sikh MPs to support Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the N-deal issue in Parliament.

Panjoli said the manner in which Vedanti had been “forced to resign” without having been allowed time to put up his point of view was unacceptable.

Makkar told The Tribune that Vedanti had stated in his resignation that due to ill-health he was unable to continue as Akal Takht Jathedar and had requested the SGPC to appoint the next Jathedar of the Takht.

He said it had been decided to appoint Giani Gurbachan Singh as Akal Takht Jathedar and he would be sworn in on August 7 in the presence of various Sikh organisations.

He, however, refused to divulge the reasons behind Vedanti’s resignation.

Vedanti had been appointed Jathedar of Akal Takht in 2000. Recently, he came under attack from a number of Sikh organisations for his having failed to handle the Sikh-dera row with a “strong hand”.

  3. How is the Sikh Federation the first and only political party of the Sikhs?

How can they represent me if I haven't voted for them?

If you all think about it, they don't really represent the Sikhs, unless all the Sikhs or a majority of Sikhs have voted for them.

Which organisations or which individuals have voted for the Sikh Federation to represent us?

I mean i'm not against anything the Sikh Federation have done to date, but before claiming that they represent the Sikhs, I think they should consult Sikhs or organisations within the Ubited Kingdom.

  5. Phaldip Singh is a great role model for us all

From his early school days, he has always stood out as a humble and loving human being. He has always reminded me what Saints like Sheik Farid have said in Guru Granth Sahib Ji 'Farida Bhure Da Bhalla Kar, Gusha Man Na Hundawo'.

I have a few photographs which I would like to share with you all, which have been collected for a publication in Feb 2006.

(Phaldip has asked me to acknowledge all photographers in the publication, therefore I feel it applies to this post as well)

Photographs by Aman Singh, Royal London Photographers, GNNSJ, Midlands Institute of photography.

In the photographs you can see Phaldip with: Bhai Sahib Bhai Mohinder Singh - Mukh Sewadar GNNSJ, Bhai Sahib Bhai Jeevan Singh Ji - AKJ, Baba Harnam Singh Ji - Damdami Taksal, and people from various conferences including the Bosnian Mayor who allowed him to take his Kirpan into all government buildings, even though they had never seen or heard of the kirpan before.

I have added pictures of Tony, The Queen, Duke, and Paddy, becuase Phaldip was speaking at the Cathedral last month along with these prominent figures from the UK. (These were taken from a website)

Phaldip, I hope you won't mind me sharing these pictures. I feel that the Sangat should have an insight into what your doing for the Panth.

Youth Leader of Birmingham beats thousands to reach

    National Awards Short List

A Prominent Youth Leader of Birmingham, Phaldip Singh Khela, 21, has been shortlisted from thousands of entries to win a prestigious Whitbread Young Achiever Award. Phaldip who is President of the World Youth Leadership Network in Europe, has been responsible for setting up a number of community projects locally, nationally and internationally.

The Whitbread Young Achiever Awards recognise and reward the achievements of 16-25 year olds, who are actively engaged in local community projects.

On 23rd November, the winners from each of the four categories – Community, Sport, Arts and Environment, will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony hosted by TV Presenter, June Sarpong at the Vinyl Factory in London. Each winner will receive £2000 in cash, £250 in leisure vouchers and a package of ‘money can’t buy’ opportunities.

The money, along with a 12-month follow-on support programme, is given by Whitbread to allow the winners to sustain their ideas and give them inspiration to go even further. Last year’s winners experiences included a day with the editor of the Guardian, shadowing a government minister, producing a BBC science programme and an invitation to an international summer school in India.
