  1. True, true. The difference being that in my day youth would still end up going to the Gurughar - out of respect - regardless of whether they had a clue what was going on. At least they received some lahaa even on a subconscious level. Nowadays the kids simply don't bother going!

this is EXACTLY wat im tryna say bro, but for watever reason no one else can see wat im tryna say. If u listen 2 Bhai Sukha Singhs Katha, it stings u, such is the truth. Recently visiting my coconut cousins in newcastle (notoriously white area), i played em sum Bhai Sukha Singh katha, they were glued 2 it, and played it few times over again in their shop.

  2. His image should be up in all places in Punjab!!!!!

Sikhi prachar should strictly be done in punjabi. These days alll resources are available for a person to learn punjabi. Sikhi prachar should be limited to kids or new comers. Make effort to learn punjabi.

Rebel Singh, as per your replies, it will be okay for people in India to learn sikhi in Hindi language? (the same language that makes u uneasy?)

What will happen to punjabi if we encourage all future pracharaks to use English in gurdwaras ? Punjabi will then only be limited to Punjab ? The same state where it's residents see this language as third grade stuff.

so if a gorah/kalaa comes gurdwara, wants to listen 2 parchaar, but cant speak/understand panjabi, and neither can the giani, wat do they do?

Oh yea go 2 a mosque instead init. Its up 2 u deluded ppl, if u think overnight the youth r gona master panjabi and b brought into sikhi more. By learning panjabi @ panjabi school, and then listening 2 english katha like video below, they can then teach their future kids. Bhai Sukha Sing hhas got the formula right, time for the rest of u 2 realise. People dont like my opinion, the ndont, but im gonna b proven 100% correct.

  3. I hope we never lose "dictionary Panjabi words". There's a time and place for everything. Let's not dumb everything down. I may also not understand uber-advanced Panjabi but that doesn't mean I want it banished off the face of the earth. I'll just have to try that bit harder to try and understand what's being said.

naa 100% bro, i myself am gonna buy a book soon, called "mahan kosh", which is a famous panjabi dictionary written by Kahan Singh Nabha. I was sayin that by using these difficult words, no one is gonna understand a fliipin word thats sed, and again we'll walk out after eating langar, havin learnt nuthin. This is wats got our youth in a mess in the first bloody place.

Look read my after replies aswell my friend, panjabi will be taught in panjabi school, like it is now, but im jus sayin, that for coconuts (westernized apnay), it wud be easier 2 have talks done in english. I dont kno if u have realised, but the current panjabi youth cannot even speak a word of panjabi, what will they learn at gurdwaras from talks done in panjabi? Is it a coincedence that on the sikh channel, the highest viewed show ever on their were kam singhs youth show (in english)?

ive already made my stance on hindi, if sikhs outside of panjab speak in hindi at their gurdwaras, good for them.

  4. I saw a Sikh Channel interview last week with Gurinder Mann author of the book "Sri Dasam Granth Sahib : Questions and Answers" they also talked about the changes and dilution that the British influence bought to SIkhi. This was actually very Pro Dasam Granth, so it's not entirely true that Sikh Channel are anti Dasam Granth...

yea tru, coz the co-author of that book, bhai kamalroop singh appeared on last yr 2 talk bowt that book, so sikh channel being anti-dasam granth? im not so sure.

heres the video of that programme. BTW the book, is fantastic, i bought it wen it came out.

  5. Multicultralism can only work if you exclude Pakistanis and Somilians and similar people, filthy people who cant mix tobe honest who woul want with these

paaji, i'd agree with, except u say pakistani, but pak panjabi/pathans r generally decent ppl, its these mirpuris, who r without a shadow the most horrible human beings ive ever ever ever ever come across. Disgusting ppl, who have embarrased their country & their religion, wat other community has boys who openely sell drugs, dont work, have 10 kids in 1 house, mum/dad rarely work, yet own bmws/mercs. If they do work, its in their chicken/chip shop, which is a front for selling drugs and keep quiet when their boys groom 12 yr old girls and force their girls 2 wear salwar kameez.

  6. :huh2: Please please please , for sake of humanity , never use that word again ... non-believers the word has very ugly connotations attached to it , and is exclusive birthright of abrahamic religions ! I don't know why would a sikh even use that word ?

someone who believes in 'koi bole raam raam , koi khudae , koi seve gosaiya , koi allahe'

well im not the only sikh to have used that word, besides, no one else has a problem with it. infact i even heard it in a sikhi video yesterday on youtube, i c if i can remember which 1. Someone who doesn't believe Guru Granth Sahib as their guru is not a beliver. Some one who's dad isnt Guru Gobind Singh, cant be a believer in him.

  7. well ppl like ranjit singh dhadrianwale r very popular, why is this? its coz he does parchar in panjabi, but he does it in a way, where he gets to the point, talks sense, has a moral in his stories and doesnt use dictionary panjabi words, which havnt been used since 1908. Btw i never slandered parcharaks, but i sed ppl on stage, as in gurdwara committe ppl, and other guest speakers who put ppl 2 sleep.

naujawan like this guy navreet singh, whos speaks in easy-to-understand panjabi i dont mind

  8. In the 15+ years I have been listening to katha at our local guru ghar, never ever have I come across a katha vaachak "talkin rubbish goin around in circles, coz there memory is crap,"

We have no right to put down parcharaks who are doing lot of seva for the panth while all we do is moan and complain on an online forum.

well its probably different in canada, but in uk, its pretty much wat i experience. When my own mum tells me wat i have said previously on here, then i know i cant be that deluded, as she is 100% able in panjabi and english. My dad is more in agreement with u tho

  9. In my local gurdwara many non-believers have come, but wen they dont understand wat is being on said on stage, its embarrasing, coz a gurdwara shud cater for the people. Soooooooooo many people have turned 2/back 2 sikh religion in recent years coz of the internet, as there is english parchaar all over the gaff, and its made it easier for them, wen they read translations. Also every granthi/giani who cant speak english in the west shud not be given the job, as they r crucial for peoples journey. If Linden didnt have that english speaking sevadaar/giani at his gurdwara, it wudd set him back a looong time. Look at how muslim will do everything they can 2 help non-muslims learn about their religion, by translating their txts into that persons chosen language, they made the job 1 million times easier. In my gurdwara the gianis cant even say "have a nice day", embarrasing, yet they know how to say, the "akhand path cost xxx pounds" and "2 have an anand karaj it cost xxxx pounds".

  10. ^ I agree that English needs to be spoken at Gurdwara to cater to younger generation and other who do not understand Punjabi. But you have certainly gone too far by calling Punjabi boring and our precious kathavachaks "boring old farts on stage talkin nonsense". Events in English need to accompany Punjabi classes so that interest in Sikh is developed along with a deeper understanding of how important the Punjabi language is.

What I usually see is only events in English taking place with absolutely no emphasis on importance of Punjabi. Hello!!!! if you can't read and understand Punjabi, how will you do paath?!!! If the trend that has started keeps up, then in a couple of generations people in the west won't be able to read Gurbani in the original form. Let's be honest, reading translations and/or transliterations comes no where near reading Gurmukhi. Punjabi is far far far superior to English.

well mr mod, i dont hate panjabi, i read n write in panjabi, coz of panjabi school back in the day, which is where kids STILL learn panjabi today. So by speaking english on stage, but learning panjabi in panjabi school, kids in the future wont lose panjabi language wud they? BTW i find it funny how u ignored how i said i loved panjabi. If i hated panjabi i wouldnt have gone thru the trouble of listening 2 panjabi songs/panjabi movies with subtitles and making my panjabi improve by over 50/60%, as ive mentioned on another thread.

The "boring old farts" comment, i stand by to the max, everyone knows it, coz wen we see old 80 yr old men on stage talkin rubbish goin around in circles, coz there memory is crap, then they shudnt b there. On days like vaisakhi, wen a lot of the sangat r kids, english must b spoken. I remember goin 2 a famous sikhs' wedding, and the kirtan was narrated in english, sung in panjabi (obviously), the stage announcements n chitchat was in english, and everyone was facing the front. No one was fiddlin with their socks/mobiles. Says everything, ive seen it with my own eyes, so i stick by it.

If people dont agree with me, fair enuff, i dont mind, unlike others on here who start crying if people just speak straight up.

  11. Well basically, I made a short film for a school assignment and it's about a Sikh's life.

    I need a backing song/music. I don't know what to use though.

Any song/music out there you can recommend?

hey, i recommend a recently released track about 2 smaller sahibzadas. im saying this track, coz its got a wicked beat and music to it, and its really catchy n overall decent track.

    Diljit - Gobind De Laal

or there is also a track by Tigerstyle - Jhoolde Kesri Jhande

if you or any1 would like these songs on mp3, send me your email via personal message, and i will send them.

  12. Good stuff, but it re-iterates wat ive been barking on about for ever and ever, ENGLISH MUST B SPOKEN @ GURDWARAS in the west! WE live in england, how do u expect non-belivers, like linden was previously, to take an interst in sikhi and try 2 help themselves, when all that is spoken on stage is boring dull panjabi with dictionary words none of have ever heard of of? Dont get me wrong, i love panjabi, its right up there with spanish and persian etc, but if sangat in gurdwaras in south america speak only in spanish, then why cant we speak in english?

Look in the video at how many times brother Linden kept sayin ppl were speakin panjabi on stage and speeches, and he didnt have a scooby at wat was being said! This is why gurdwara attendances are gettin smaller and smaller every year, coz ppl dont wana hear boring old farts on stage talkin nonsense. Speak in english, so kids, teenagers and mid-age ppl can understand. Gurdwaras in coventry n other west midland gurdwaras have been taken over by young sikhs on their committees, and they have turned the gurdwaras into english speaking only and the sangat is getting bigger and bigger. I hear in canada, young naujawan have taken over various gurdwaras too, what the results are im not sure, maybe some 1 from canada on here, can confirm wat the results have been, thanks.

  13. i have heard that during one of the many gruelling battles Guru Gobind Singh was involved in, a sikh asked Guru Ji, wat will happen 2 these evil persons (Mughal Soldier setc) whom we are fighting (some of whom were not evil, but majboor/helpless 2 pay the bills, and r told wat to do). Guru Gobind Singh, if i remember correctly, he said, that every dushman soldier that i kill with my arrow/my khalsa kills, will take birth in a sikh parivaar, in their next life.

This i presume is because to save their souls of the previous actions.

if i told the story wrong i do apologise.

  14. Hmm, I think it is either a tshirt or the head scarf thing (that gurdwaras hand out to mone) with a khanda on and since the guys are naked, the wearer of the tshirt is using the tshirt to hide his modesty. It is stupid and ignorant especially if he comes from a sikh background.

dont be silly, how can that be a gurdwara rumaal, its a nishan sahib, a mini one, that have been hung outside gurdwaras across the world, coz of the whole rajoana pledge orange campaign.
