Congress dominates indian politics. Congress has never liked sikhs. indira grew up learning politics from her father nehru who of course never liked us either.

Akali Dal, leading political party in punjab, opposed congress and the oppression of punjabis. When indira got all power happy and suspended democracy to continue her reign, Akali Dal actively opposed this. Obviously when your in power, you dont want people opposing you its just a spanner in the works. Congress also wanted more control over punjab since it has always been the bread basket of india and has the highest per capita income. Now, the notion of "bharat maa" is highly stressed in indian society "jana gana mana", "vande mataram", "mahatma gandhi", "hindustan" etc in schools, film, just about everywhere. Anyone seen to be breaking away or causing harm to this "maa"/goddess is a traitor/the enemy. So all indira had to do was label the sikhs as dissidents. Since there was only 1 tv channel, doordarshan (government owned), 1 radio station, doordarshan (government owned) and only a handful of newspapers, majority government owned/funded, labelling the sikhs as dissidents/traitors/terrorists/separatists, was not going to be a hard job...

To me, a vegie diet makes no sense since using dairy products still causes animals so much distress. A cow produces milk for its offspring. Not humans. Back in the day it was a different story. Today, with commercialism and all that, cows are fed all sorts to change their hormones thus enabling them to produce milk around the clock. Otherwise i cow would only produce milk for a couple years after birth.

a lot of the time, malf calves are either killed or left for the veal industry...both as evil as each other. Cows are beautiful animals... treated like <banned word filter activated> tho...sad world.

also the health benefits of milk are not 100% proven. They could be equally adverse...do some googling. Soya milk is like pure protein without all the rubbish. Dusnt taste the same tho

Don't forget, Amritdharis are NOT vegetarians. For example vegetarians, by definition, eat fish, thus many products that have a 'vegetarian' label on them are not actually suitable for Amritdharis. Amritdharis are somewhere between vegetarians and vegans.

Sounds amazing! The 3HO bunch have an event in france few times a year i think where sangat go over to stay with a bunch of sikhs on their farm, learn how to grow crops using all these eco techniques, eat what they grow, kirtan in the open under the sun/ stars and yoga obviously...(3ho) lol

They're opening a meat storage facility, NOT an abattoir. There would be no abnormal smells or sights. And they already have such a facility in the vicinity. This is bradford we're talking about and the gurdwaras in an industrial estate! What do they expect.
