  1. (i) No serious discussions , everybody just wants to be proven right - petty ego gratification , when whole point of sikh spirtiuality is to go beyond your haume

(ii) Very sloppy censoring on parts of MODS, today Ising1699 made some good points on Ramchander thread without being desrespectful or personal - which were all removed (again very unsikh - Guru Teg Bahadur sacrificed his life for freedom of expression ), In the end SS will become a group of 'sikhs' with a very narrow view of sikhism that confirms their tunnel vision .

Really sad to see you leave. I quite liked your posts veer.

And cold showers- i cant bring myself around to having cold baths but after i cold shower, i feel so refreshed and alive. So i see sense in what your saying :)

Some people just need to be a little open minded...seem to think they know everything. The thing about arguing with idiots veer, they will only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. Not calling anyone an <banned word filter activated>...its how George Carlin put it. :)

I.d.i.o.t. is a filtered word? Jeez

  2. The damdami bir that guru ji gave Gaddi to is our true guru. All the bani in the damdami bir right now is all our guru. There is no kachi bani in it right now.

The banis such as Karninama or naseehatnama are other banis of guru ji that were not added but are his banis.

So veer are all current birs copys of the Damdami Bir? I.e. the local gurdwara in england

  3. Homosexual and gays will never be the way forward. Because we can't have future generations or be reproducing if everyone was gay !!

In terms of sikhi, we are to treat all as equals in terms of all castes in society. In guruji's times they were specifically addressing the ''Untouchable'' castes. No jaat paat, no ucha or neemha (higher or lower), no rich or poor...etc...

However, in todays age, we sometimes treat gays as the untouchables and this is a 'NO,NO' according to Guruji.

Why people are born this way is no different to why people in the gutters have babies. Whether it is previous karma or his Hukam, we should leave it at that, but whatever situations Guruji places in front of us, we have a duty to handle and deal with them as per Gurmat and Sikhi.

We can't make assumptions on their previous karma and sins and then decide to rightfully prejudice against them.

Its not about everyone becoming homosexual and thus the human race becomes extinct lol. Its about some individuals embracing who they are rather than hiding or lying about their sexuality just to please society. Homosexuality is no new phenomenon.

People are born homosexual in the same way that people are born hetrosexual. Suggesting that homosexuals are born a certain way due to past karam implicates that they are inferior and therefore unequal. Your views please.

The below post was posted a while back in gupt and subsequently locked, no reasons given. Though its not my place to comment on the posters sexuality, i do think he made some valid points worth discussing. Also, if for some reason admin think this post should be locked, please give reasons. Thank you.

    " Hello All,

Before I get to my question, I'd like to give some background as to where it's coming from. I am a western born and raised proud Sikh male. I am not amritdhari, as I don't believe I will be able to follow the strict "rules" constructed by society and applied to those who choose that path.

I am also gay and therein lies the issue. From my research, I have come to understand that the Gurbani is silent on the issue of homosexuality. However, the Akal Takth has taken a heavy stance against it (I find this ironic since Sikhi is a religion founded on the basis of acceptance and equality. Telling people there's no such thing as homosexuals and they don't deserve the support of the community is the last thing I would expect from a leader of the faith.)

Recently, I have been contemplating telling my friends and family of my sexuality. I understand this will cause them much pain, but it is who I am and people deserve to know the "real" me, and I also deserve to be proud of who I am (by hiding it, I'm making it out as something to be ashamed of; which I don't believe it is). Also, the idea of marriage is becoming a larger issue in my life, and there is only so much time that I will be able to manage to put it off.

I have 3 questions which I'd like opinions about:

    1) How would you react to the knowledge that someone you were close to was gay?

    2) What are your thoughts on the consequences of the combination of my sexuality and religion?

    3) What are your thoughts on the Akal Takth's stance against gay marriage and homosexuality?

Now before people ask: Yes, I have tried "not to be gay", but it's not a choice. Trying is akin to pretending; which is lying; which is wrong. Also, have you "tried" not to be straight?"

  5. Please see below on how Halal meat in a democracy has been sneaked through the back door from a major British supermarket:-

Thank you for your response to my colleague XXXX email.

I am sorry to hear that you feel our reply cannot be trusted.

Please allow me to assure you that like all other major UK supermarkets, we source from suppliers who serve Muslim as well as non-Muslim customers. Some of these suppliers process all their meat to Halal standards. For example, all our New Zealand lamb meets Halal standards. In these cases, all of our processes still meet the same stringent animal welfare requirements and all animals are stunned prior to slaughter whether the meat is sold as Halal or non-Halal.

With this in mind we also understand that some customers do not want to eat meat that has been blessed. For these customers, we are able to guarantee that our British Organic lamb as well as British Organic, Willow Farm and Finest Free Range chicken has not received a Halal blessing.

Thanks again for taking the time to get in touch, I do hope the above information is helpful.

    Kind regards

    XXXX Customer Service

The above is not case of whether Sikhs should be eating meat or not as Gurbani is clear we as Sikhs should NOT eat meat. The issue is how one religion is forcing it's will on the majority and companies lacking the courage to be accountable & transparent to its consumers.

This is an example of companies and supermarkets seeing a gap in the market and fulfilling customer needs. All about $$$$$$

  6. maybe a witty reply before getting angry...

eg. if someone says 'ohh singhaaaaa!'..maybe something like ''oh kidda freeeshy!!, pind teek taak ya?!! maaja (cows) the ki hal ya, bibi te baba teek ya?"

combine this with a firm playful slap on the back (preferably resulting in them stumbling over a bit) and a loud laugh and 'bruaaah'!

This satire will play into their stereotype, result possibly in them gettin a little embarassed, but the downside is it is not really befiting a GurSikhs response! PS this requires the singh to have a little jaan/strength as well, so start lifting weights before getting angry at monees

could be comical for all concerned thou!

Lets not throw them all in the same pot :) I cant say i've experience such behaviour from muslims or people of other faiths. I have actually experienced it from people "sikhs" or punjabis (not quite sure how to describe them).
