  1. i am gona ask you straight out because i bet everyone wants to know are you a sikh or a muslim, no offence.

Insh'Allah is not a 'muslim-only' term. Learn what it means :) he could be spanish, could be middle eastern or perhaps a jew or christian from the middle east or just someone who understands the word and uses it at His will.

  2. As an amritdhari, or kesdhari even, we stand as ambassadors for our nation. I personally would not enter pubs or such places because of that. I dont drink so what reason do i have going into a pub? I dont smoke so what reason would i have going into a cegar shop? I dont use prostitutes, what reason would i have going into a brothel or strip club?

All three of those can be places to socialise but as an ambassador of my nation, I just wouldnt go to any of those places. Sarbans dani pita has given us his roop. When we take up that roop, theres a part of us we have to leave behind. We must remember the responsibility which comes with the image.

People see a Singh going into a pub and they assume Singhs drink. He may be having an apple juice and people will assume his having whisky. He may be having water and people will say its vodka.

People talk about people behind their backs anyways. Nothing you can do about that.

  3. You wouldn't last 12 hours on this site if made a moderator, so please spare us the lecture. We do not approve of racism, and have warned hammertime on more than one occasion in the past. Why am I even telling you, I don't report to you, do I? At the same time, we cannot obstruct the flow of news about what is happening. And in case you didn't read our messages in older posts, let me repeat them for you. The moderators of this forum are living human beings who have a life outside of their computer screens and away from Sikhsangat.com. It would be foolish to expect us to keep an eye at all times on all posts made in all threads. If something irritates you so severely, smash the REPORT button below the post that you find extra spicy and we will do the needful.

Why are you telling me? I didnt ask.

Like plenty other words have been banned, why aren't the racist terms banned? Simple.

  4. When quoting shabas, we should quote the ang numbers where possible.!!

Above is ang 70 from what I gather-

Just a little comment below that I had made previously elsewhere with reference to this shabad.-

Has there ever been a moment in your life, even if it was for a few minutes- when you felt so loved and connected with everything around you?

A moment where you suddenly felt that you realized everything and you were a part of this WHOLE universe and this same universe was a HUGE part of you ??

It's a feeling where you suddenly feel blessed and want this whole blessing to be experienced by everyone and everything around you.

If you have had this short lived feeling of anand or bliss, then this is the only thing that remains permanently engrained on your soul.

When you feel pushed or on the edge, just try and connect to that same moment and in an instance you can forget what you were fretting about.

The above shabad tells us to remember and connect with him for that moment.

It's not just remembering in mind, but it is connection of the whole mind, body and soul. It's more than just surrender and submitting, it's actually becoming ONE and like with him.

When this happens you feel that you ARE the Universe and the Universe is you, so all this worry is just a product and weakness of your mind.

Remember, you are NOT your mind, you are beyond and much bigger than that. it's just that your mind has a clever way of convincing and conquering you.

    Thanks veerji

  5. All this is ok here but how do we get the message to the wider Sikh community who do not come to these sites nor hardly go to the Gurdwara.

Also using the term Paki does not help the cause at all. I am surprised the moderators allow it.

Moderators are sleeping veerji. They ovz dont give 2 shits.

Sent me a lengthy email explaining their stand against racism and how they're none bias blah blah. Clearly total bakwaas since this is like the hundreth post by hammertime with excessive use of the term he loves to use. Blatant anti-islamic/ anti-muslims comments all over the shot here. What exactly are we teaching our youth?! And none sikhs? And those muslims who may be seeking our Guru Sahibs guidence stroll on here to find that we're no different to their own. Well bravo

  6. The pictures or artist's impressions we have are pretty accurate and good.

Yes, they may have the nose and cheekbones wrong or many other small factors, but at the end of the day we can tell the difference between Guru Nanak ji and Guru Gobind Singh ji !

Ask anyone who has had darshan and they will tell you 'how else would have they known who they saw ? and that the paintings and pictures are good enough for all of us'.

Me personally, I would be a little lost if I had NO idea what they looked like !

and the proportions you mention of hand and feet may be completely wrong, but does that matter ???

If and when you have darshan, are you going to say ''your hands and lips are different to the pictures!!''

How can you say they're pretty good and accurate? Accurate- I cant comment on since iv never had darshan but good? From an art perspective...I would disagree. Look at classical portraits of kings and queens, compare them, can you see the difference between good and bad art?

You can tell the difference between the portraits because of the different characteristics or things shown in the paintings. Doesnt mean they're a true representation.

How do we know that when you have darshan that the darshan are not what you want to see?

Yes the proportions matter because the paintings are completely wrong! Look show one of those paintings to a professional and see what he has to say.

Haha the last bit made me laugh.

Ps. I am not commenting on the depictions but the paintings and the art itself. It has no true likeness. And from an art perspective, they're clearly by amateur painters.

Pul chuk muaf ji. No intention of hurting anyones sentiments.

  7. I think people that do bow to photos of Guru Sahibs (I don't bow, but I do have pictures of Guru Sahibs in my house because I like them) aren't lowering their heads to a particular accuracy of likeness, but more about what the likeness represents in terms of everything Guru Sahibs were and stood for. At least I hope that's how they see things. I'd hate to think someone is waving some toof in-front of a picture of our Gurus, because just no better than idol worship. Isn't it?

Veerji I agree with that and very nicely said. But people do bow to these paintings and do the whole toof bati etc to them. In our Gurdwara Sahibs we have these paintings up in Darbar Sahibs so how can we condone these blind rituals? Why do we need a painting to help us focus as some have said when we have Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj sampuran satguru right in front of us?
  8. How do we know that the paintings we have look anything like our Guru Sahib? An artist creates a painting based on his/her likes/dislikes, precedent influences...etc and so its an impression unlike a photograph. So if picasso created a painting saying it was of Guru Sahib in his cubist or surrealist style, would we also respect that?

Theres a few paintings that have been posted on here saying that the artist had actually painted Guru Sahib in person. The paints have no distinct features of a person. Yes theres ears and eyes and a nose and legs and feet and hands but there all out of proportion- so are we saying this is how our Guru Sahib was?

If it was a photo- ok...its a genuine portrait but these are paintings! Most of them by amateur painters. Theres no likeness to reality.

  9. and the Gurdwara sahibs in india? we have completely destroyed our heritage. we've concreted and tiled over our historic frescos. we've bulldozed many historic structures of great significance. we've marbled and bricked up every square inch including the trees and miraculously expect them to survive. we dont care about our history, our heritage and certainly dont care about our future. what we do care about is our 'korsi' and we will do anything to keep it. as long as we are gulaam, nothings going to change.

  10. the matrimonial programme.

the poor camera work. when the cameras still running and the presenters are still there completely oblivious having their convos...lol kind of funny actually.

when they just keep repeating the same stuff.

when wollies phone in and leave their tv on and say hello like a gazillion times. the presenters just like apne tv de avaaz band karlo ji. n they still dont get the message.

the lame adverts. sofa factory, claim today...

forever seeing oldies with their dodgy habits and accents and their appauling english. rarely seeing well versed youth or programmes aimed at youth.

and that punjabi alphabet programme with those cartoon kids skipping in the medows. arghh that song is so annoying!
