  1. Thereafter, Guru ji pronounced, ‘on your rebirth in the Khalsa Panth, your previous lineage, caste, creed, calling, customs, beliefs and superstitions, etc. stand annulled from now onwards. Transforming you into the Order of Khalsa, I have endowed you with the apparel of the Almighty God, you shall have to keep its honour. Before administering this nectar of steel, I also bestowed you with five kakaars (Ks, i.e. defining emblems). You have never to keep them away from your body even by mistake. I gave you, at the start, a blue keski, kangha, kirpan, sarbloh ka kara and white kachhehra. In the event of the loss or misplacement of any of these, get its infringement pardoned in the Sangat by going to Gurdwara without any delay.

Guru Kian Sakhian, Bhatt Sarup Singh Kaushish, 1790.

  4. paji

if u cannot read gurmukhi fluently get a romanised gutka where punjabi words are in english eg "ik on kar saat naam" etc.

i think u will come to a stage when u think you are ready to have amrit. i think befor that comes a stage where u just WANT to take amrit (but know deep down ur not ready), thats where i am :)

i think the biggest issue u may have is that with your wife, its quite complicated, perhaps you should discuss it with the panj or a very knowledgable gursikh (not some random ppl on the net, although i know there are plenty of gursikh here, but its probably better in real life)

  5. one leg in one leg out? come on! u make these things like rituals they dont actually mean much u just force the habit on urself. u dont need the symbols to remind u ur brain can do that. besides once it becomes a part of u it wont really remind u of anything because it'll become hard to notice its even there. instead of making the symbols remind u to be a good person maybe u can just make ur thinking habits change in ur mind

jassika, didnt you read what i wrote.

unless youve read all the rehatnamas, studied the history of the rehat, talked to brahmgyanis, gurmukhs and mahapurkhs on the issue, you are in absolutely no position to call the rehat maryada that has been and is followed by millions "like rituals".

plz, have a little bit of respect. let your ego give in just for one moment and give your guru the benefit of the doubt over your own mind.

FYI rehatnama bhai desa singh "never be seperated from your kachh or kirpan"

bhai daya singh rehatnama "it is said of a singh that whenever he takes one leg out of his kachh, he must always have the other leg in another kachh".

the kacch is also meant to reach just above the knee.

  6. yo jassika im not being cold ye

but u need to go down to the simple stuff for a bit......dont worry about monkeys have periods.........the panj kakkars are not things to be taken on and off like clothes are.....they are not just symbolic......

plese do a bit of research, talk to some gursikhs, try to find a really spiritually developed gursikh and chat to him more. cuz its worrying when u have todays youth thinking, its ok to take off your kachereh, cuz they are just symbols and u cant see them anyway

sorry if i came across as harsh

btw im not in a position to say anything about this topic.....hahaha.......why dont you go and ask the panj pyare for their advice before u take amrit?

  7. wjkk wjkf

apologies if u thought i was criticising/looking down on shaheed bhai mani singh....was just tryna work out why.......becuz i can understand banda singh bahadurs odd quirk.....eg not eating onions (becuz he previously a bairagi hindu)......bt this part of history has always confused me........still who am i to question

kulpreet u have raised some good points.....thnx man

  8. could someone explain me the line in guru gobind singhs bani (swayias or chaupai) "the hindus have set up false religions".

please read the quran for yourself. its not exactly a long read so you should be able to handle it. then you can come to an informed decision on whether or not it speaks the truth.

there is truth in all religion, because praising god by nature is a "true" act, but there are plenty of contradictions between gurbani and hindu scriptures or gurbani and quran, one obviously has to be right on an issue, so the other must obviously be wrong.........?

  9. sorry i didnt make this clear at all.

i *think* it was in 1721, but dont quote me.

bhai mani singh had the idea, that perhaps he should rearrange all the gurbani in the guru granth sahib. usually it is arranged by raag. he thought he should rearrange the entire guru granth sahib (this is all happening after guru gobind singhs passing) by AUTHOR - ie first all guru nanaks bani, ending with guru tegh bahadurs, then bhagats, bhatts, etc.

as u can imagine, the generally sikh sangat were incredibly p**sed off with this idea so it didnt go ahead. people said he should be cut into pieces for attempting to mutilate gurbani.

nevertheless bhai mani singh still gave the biggest sacrifice and redeemed himself with shaheedi.

i can understand that even great gursikhs make *little* mistakes in their lives and make up for it (eg banda singh bahadur) but WHY ON EARTH would bhai mani singh want to mess about with gurbani?

after all he was the scibe of guru gobind singh, so he would be aware of the importance of gurbani and the sggs. why would he have such a crazy idea being such a great singh?

hopefully my question is clearer now - what possessed bhai mani singh to think about messing up the guru granth sahib?

  10. why did shaheed bhai mani singh want to move about all the material in gurbani (ie arrange by author rather than by raag)??????

surely being such a scholar and the scribe for guruji he knew a ) what the current system was and B ) that gurbani should not be messed with?

i never quite understood this one.

  11. I do not agree that by wearing any specific colour, the intensity of any kind of feelings decreases or increases.
paji i am not too worried about the significance of why red and green are not to be worn.

i am generally very cynical on each part of the rehat until i have been given historical proofs that they are part of the maryada. once i am sure of this i do not question it at ALL.

it is irrelevant what the meaning was - the khalsa uniform does not include red or green. so we do not wear it.

All natural colours are part of KUDRAT like our blood which is RED so is it full of KAAM ? Trees (most) are Green , r they belongs to Muslium only ?

animals dont have anand karaj before they produce offspring, does that make all animals kurehitees? :) its not possible to compare khalsa code of conduct to the natural world.

    I am

not against any Rehitnaamaa but Sadh Sangat Jee try to understand the time period under which all these Rehitnamama and Dasam Granth were written, the time of wars.

should chandi di // and other such gurbani be abandoned because they relate to a warlike situation which we are no longer in? there is no doubt that the original purpose of the KARA was to deflect strikes of a sword. now this is not an issue why not remove the kara?

like it or not, khalsa are meant to be a sipahi - soldiers who do not go lax even for a moment :@

The chances for dilution in these writings were high , as per my little knowledge this was one of the reasons why Guru Gobind Singh Jee did not kept his own bani in SGGS Jee.

why didnt guru gobind singh add jaap sahib, akal ustat, gyan prabodh, 24 incarnations, 404 stories into the guru granth sahib when they have nothing or very little to do with war?

furthermore how should we decide which parts of the rehat to remove and which parts to leave? is this not picking apart the rehat according to our own whims? do we know what is better than the guru does?

Earlier also in one of the posts it was said that as per Rehitnaama eating ONION is not allowed. I think we need to think abt these kind of things.

    bhai sahib you are

incorrect. the only injuction against onion comes in banda singh bahadurs hukamnama. this is because he was previously an ascetic hindu hermit so some past values were still stuck to him. in no rehatnama does it say, dont eat onion.

tanakh-nama bhai nand lal (oldest rehatnama, a copy of a copy is dated a bit earlier than 1720?)

"who clothes himself in red, or who uses snuff, will be desolated by yam, says gobind singh"

i dont want to take the chance of being desolated by yam ohmy.gif

  12. that riduculous notion that u shouldn't eat food prepared by anyone that isn't amrithdhari if ur amrithdhari.

the concept of bibek is part of the rehat.

the concept of bibek has been called ridiculous.

calling something ridiculous is making fun of it.

therefore you have made fun of part of the rehat.

    rolleyes.gif

  13. i have been to DTF and i never saw any sarbloh kirpans altho i saw it on the website once for like 35 quid......mayb i didnt look hard enuf ...... :@

    however

if someone really wants a DECENT kirpan they should wait until they go to india......and i can guarantee u that you can get whatever kirpan you want there for a really cheap price and it will defiantely be sarbloh....just go to metha chowk, tell them what you want and they will handmake it just for u :)

  14. smart singh

rethink your comments about amritdharis eating from amritdharis being rediculous

read the rehatnamas? historical accounts? r u urself amritdhari? got darshan from guru gobind singh yet? has ur dasam duar opened? no? if not then i wouldnt make fun of any of the rehat, k? :)

  15. altho i havent checked the article i can confirm baba nihang nihal singh is a 100percent gursikh

he got darshan of guru har rai one day telling him to stop jhatka so hes got a vegetarian cru of nihangs now :)

and i think he met baba jarnail singh bhindranwale aswell

  16. ok on one side its important not to rip any religion cuz it is bad for ur own spirituality

    BUT

if anyone believes that islam really does teach the concepts of equality, tolerance etc the same way sikhi does (or the same modern human rights do) they need to have a better study of the religion

    for example

if i were to quote hadiths where some pregnant woman composed verses similar to the quran so someone killed her and mohammed praised him, what would you say?

or if mohammed said its perfectly ok to take as many slave women you have captured from villaages for yourself, what wud u say

or if there was evidence that mo had simply committed genocide by wiping out an entire area of jews, again what wud u say?

it is important not to just rag another faith but come on the facts are there. your a "kaffir" whether u like it or not.........

  17. i dont agree with the hatred preached on that website but i can certainly see where they are coming from.

i have read the quran and studied many hadiths. within the hadiths (saheeh or reliable ones) which give us instances where mohammed condoned rape of slaves, murder, lies, and many other inhumane acts.

it is for this reason that in bachittar natak guru gobind singh says that the prophet set up a cult.

come on, look at the world now and the amount of violence. most of it (or a large proportion) in one way or another is related to islam. im not bashing "muslims" as sufi muslims are safe generally, but the quran definately preaches hatred, otherwise we wouldnt have muslims converting sikhs in the uk, and killing sikhs for 100s of years
