This has long been on my mind, so i thought to share with sangant........with waheguru blessing this paapi with Amrit di daat, just coming up to one year now......i was reflecting on the journey waheguru took me on............and the most visable thing was........that physically........i was one my own..........(but Guru was hamesha ang sang) what i mean to say is.........i would go to listen to katha at Gurdwara, and often would leave feeling abit dazed and the parchaar was (at that time) very deep and i was unable to understand it.........

Now a few weeks ago, one of my mates, (who is a Rhadaswami) brought her "Master "Maharaj" Charan Singh" dvd to my house............i was very duboius as to her intentions but i sat down and watched it never the less..........i was quite amazed at the 3 divans i watched............i have no clue about Rhadaswamis and their beliefs..........but the parchar that this so called "Master" did was actually quite acurate and more importantly very easy to understand..................

I laughed with my friend and sed well "i realy enjoyed the prechar..........hes does realy good katha" so in my eyes i saw nothing more that a katha vachik, (without implying any dis-respect to the mahan - katha vachiks of the Sikh Panth) BUT to people like my friend..........they see "this amazing person" who is revealing the word of God and flock behind him like lambs..................the worry her is the the REAL mster Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji is being passed of as noting more that a "book" not just in non-sikhi groups............but scarily in our very own sikh kaum.............This silent and deadly assasination of our living Guru is sad but what can we as gursikh do to remind people.........."sab sikhan ko hukam hai GURU maneyo GRANTH" and not some person, who, with all due respect has done Kauge of Bani but them proceeds to act as they are to Key to getting closer to God?

So the question i guess im asking is................what is happening to sikhi parchaar? what changes have to be made to ensure sikhs are made aware of What sikhi actually is?

I mean u have Great MAHAN gursikhs like Giani Thankur Singh who are awaking sikhi inside many people, but how can we, help spread this message furthur that one Has a Guru that is Living today, in the roop of Guru Granth Sahib Ji.........and They are the True Path to God?

1984 riots: Four sentenced to life imprisonment

New Delhi, Aug 27: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sentenced four persons to life imprisonment for their involvement into the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that followed the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 21,000 each on Lal Bahadur, Ram Lal, Virender and Surinder Pal Singh after holding them guilty of rioting, murder and conspiracy.

Eighteen years after a trial court acquitted the four citing lack of evidence, a Division Bench of Justice Manmohan Sarin and Justice S L Bhayana reversed the order and convicted them.

"We may observe here that the liability of the members of unlawful assembly who knew that an offence was likely to be committed in prosecution of the object for which they had assembled is equal to those who commit it," the Bench observed in a judgement on an appeal filed by the state challenging the trial court's acquittal order.

The Bench also said "it is a case where the members of one community were singled out and were murdered and their properties were burnt and looted. Such lawlessness deserved to be sternly dealt with".

According to the prosecution, an FIR was lodged after a complaint was received from Harjit Kaur alleging that her husband and father-in-law were burnt alive by a mob in Sagarpur area on November 1,1984.

When the mob attacked her house and looted the properties, Kaur, her husband Rajinder and father-in-law Sardool Singh had taken shelter in a neighbour's house, as per the prosecution.

BJP cautions writers against speaking in favour of separatists

New Delhi, Aug 26: BJP on Tuesday cautioned "eminent journalists and writers" against speaking in favour of "separatist forces", suggesting that the freedom of writing and speech cannot be at the cost of the country's sovereignty.

"The party would like to caution the so-called eminent journalists and writers who are going out of their way to endorse the separatist idea of an independent Kashmir. The party feels that the freedom of writing and speech cannot be at the cost of the integrity and sovereignty of the country," party spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad told reporters here today.

Freedom of a citizen cannot be misused to challenge the very national identity because of which we exist as a democratic country, he added.

Booker prize winning author Arundhati Roy had come under attack from the Congress as also the BJP over her controversial statement on Kashmir with the ruling party dubbing her a "loose cannon" and the main opposition saying that her remarks were "nothing short of sedition".

Roy had said in Srinagar recently that the people of Kashmir have made themselves abundantly clear that they want complete freedom and the government should pay heed to their demand.

Guns or firearms were pretty much common in the 18th century but what I have heard that singhs in the 18th century were very expert in swordsmanship but if guns were pretty common in 18th century, dint it undermine the importance of a sword in wars ?

Whenever I see any puratan shastars, I see mostly kirpans(of various types) and khandas, but very few guns.

puraatan sikhs used to be armed with matchlocks (primitive guns) in addition to chakras, kirpans etc

I was at a wedding at the weekend and overheard a couple of fella's chattin about how they eat all animals, except cows. They were also sayin how they dont eat meat on certain days. I'm totally confused, what is this all about? I would have asked the guys but before I could say anything they were carried away by the rail gaddi :lol:

maybe because back in the day (and even now) sikhs earned their livelihood off the land and used cows to plough the fields, produce milk and the cow dung which was/is used as a source of fuel.

cows are a centrepiece to people earning their living and coupled with the holy status given by the hindu majority, cows are treated with respect by common folk. therefore eating beef is frowned upon in general indian society.

Dera Baba Nanak, June 28, (ANI): External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said that the building of a tarred corridor between the Dera Baba Nanak in India and the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan’s Narowal District, could serve as a possible confidence building measure (CBM) between the two countries.

Mukherjee was visiting Dera Baba Nanak at the invitation of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to assess the feasibility of the corridor to facilitate pilgrims.

Mukherjee said it was necessarily to create a good relationship with Pakistan, as We have already opened two routes with Pakistan and are ready to open more routes so that more people come and know each other, and remove existing misunderstandings.

The minister announced that the Indian Government would send a group of experts to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of the much in demand corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to Kartarpur Sahib. He said the team would submit a report to the government, following which the matter would be discussed with Pakistan.

If Islamabad agreed to proposed project, it would be immediately implemented, he added.

Mukherjee visit to the border was welcomed by various Sikh organizations.

Badal thanked Mukherjee for his favourable response to the request forwarded by the entire Sikh community.

Mukherjees green signal meant that the proposed corridor would soon be a reality, Badal said.

Badal said that once the corridor was in place, Sikh devotees could enjoy a hassle-free pilgrimage, instead of taking the circuitous journey via Wagah, Lahore and Narowal.

The region would also experience heightened economic and tourism activity as a result.

The corridor to the holy shrine would in time turn out to be a corridor for peace and prosperity, claimed Nirmal Singh Kahlon, the Speaker of the Punjab State Assembly.

Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Wadala, the president of the Kartarpur Langha Committee, said: It would be a dream come true. We have been struggling for many years to get this corridor and wish that the visit of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will bring fruit.

Dr. Pritpal Singh, the convener of the American Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (AGPC), described it as a long pending demand of the Sikh Diaspora.

Talking from the United States, Dr. Singh said that they would also appeal to the Pakistan Government to respond positively to build the corridor without any further delay.

He also offered the help of the AGPC in funding the cost of the corridor.

Dr. Rajwant Singh, the president of a Washington-based NGO, said that it would really be a happy moment for the Sikhs if the Government of India moved in the direction of building a corridor between the two countries.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar also welcomed the Indian Government initiative.

KanwarPal Singh, a spokesperson for the Dal Khalsa, also welcomed the announcement made by Pranab Mukherjee.

The Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib is situated in Pakistans Narowal District, where Guru Nanak spent more than 18 years of his life.

Sikh pilgrims have been demanding a safe passage to the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib from Dera Baba Nanak for years. (ANI)

The jews are so few in numbers and they handle their issues so well. Why can't Sikhs be like that? A recent look at mumbai happenings makes everything clear.

There are too many divisions in Sikhi and the panth isn't unified like in Judaism. We've only been around for about 300 years, so give it time and things will start to come together.

Jews also have divisions (ie divisions between orthodox and non orthodox) and the fact that many jews have moved away from the faith. But the only thing that unites them is the fact that they have a common cause to follow (against anti semitism) and they are also a sovereign people with a jewish state.

Sikhs at the moment are not sovereign, and with the present lack of leadership in the quam we are unable to rally around a common cause.

JD cunningham hit the nail on the head when he said that sikhs are united when they are fighting a common enemy, however in the absence of an enemy they start to bicker and fight amongst themselves.
