This is a Pakistani practice to celebrate the birth of Guru Nanak, who is the spirutual leader of the sikh comunity in Pakistan.

Every year the Sikh community in India and Pakistan and other parts of the world celebrate and pay homage to this holy figure who believed in one Almightly and preached that He can always be found in our prayers and on the path of righteousness.

  5. Warlike sports of the Nihangs

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Originally known as Akalis, the Nihngas or Nihang Singhs are endearingly designated as Guru's Knights or the Guru's beloved. They still carry the military ambience and heroic style that was cultivated during the lifetime of Guru Gobind Singh. Nihangs constitute a distinctive order among the Sikhs and are readily recognized by their dark blue loose apparel and their ample, peaked turbans festooned with quoits, insignia of the Khalsa and rosaries, all made of steel. They are always armed, and are usually seen mounted heavily laden with weapons such as swords, daggers, spears, rifles, shotguns, and pistols.

The word Nihang can be traced back to Persian nihang (alligator, sword) or to Sanskrit nishanka (fearless, carefree). In the former sense, it seems to refer to the reckless courage members of this order displayed in battle. In Guru Gobind Singh's writing, // Sri Bhagauti Ji 47, it is used for swordsmen warriors of the vanguard. Whatever may be the origin the word Nihang, it signifies the characteristic qualities of the clan- their freedom from fear of danger or death, readiness for action and non-attachment to worldly possessions. During the eighteenth century, one of the confederate armies of the Dal Khalsa, constituted of the Nishanvalia misl chief, Naina Singh, whose style of tightly tied tall turban with a dumala gained currency and those who adopted were called Akali Nihangs.

Yo if i am not mistaken but in the last part of the video is the Nihang swearing?

  6. Yeah i saw it as well. I was shocked. Luckily for us they didn't interview him or keep him on camera two long. But still I mean don't we have enough to deal with, with all this osama bin laden crap. We have to now fight off these stereotypes. Jai Tegang, yes he is human and he may have a sickness of wanting to sleep with 12 year olds. Which in itself we can all see whats wrong with that, but ontop of that he is wearing guru ji's saroop. I mean cut your hair shave do something. We don't realize that we are embassadors for every other dari kesh wearing person out there. Everything we do reflects either positivly or negativly on every single other sikh. If you watched the sikhs on the street video it shows how much we lack in getting our positive image across. I mean there are less jews then sikhs yet everyone knows about their faith. We really need to do some damage control for all this osama and other bad press we have been facing. Oh and illi he was not a gursikh, u can tell that by his actions.

Hey Quest4Akal thanks for stating ur comments really respect that, I can't count the number of times i have gone thru those situations and i am very sorry for saying he was Gursikh, my mistake.

  7. that seems to be the norm nowadays unfortunately...

when u say Gursikh, you talk about an Amrit-dhaari person?

I don't know if the person was Amrit Shak but he had long uncut beard and was wearing a big nice indian style pugh.

Sangat ji, last nite I was watching this show called The Big Idea With Donny Deutsch on cnbc and last nite's topic was sex pervert stings. I was so shocked to see that they busted a Gursikh. I don't want to outline the details on what the whole catch of the show was and how they lured these individuals into walking into this trap but it was sad & shocking!!!

Any form of superstitions or believing in bad luck is anti gurmat/sikhi.

What ever happens to a person in their life is wirtten on the forehead according to their pre-ordained destiny.
