As we have seen lately all around the world in major cities there have been peaceful protests in remembrance of shaheeds of 1984 and to get recognized justice for the attacks. Majority of these events have been attended by thousands of Sikhs and often take up many blocks in the downtown core of major cities... NYC, London, Vancouver, etc...

Just want to hear Sangats opinion... How much affect do these demonstrations that happened, and have been happening for many years have on the Indian Government? Is the Indian Government realizing the mass events that are happening, are they realizing that justice is still needed to be granted? Are these demonstrations doing anything for the Khalistan movement?

Video shows Paathi who is the president of the Gurdwara as well watching youtube during his raul in akhand paath sahib.

Akhand paath should be read and listened to by the sangat, and not merely read as a ritual to make money for gurdwara's. No one is getting laha of more than one akhand paath being read at the same time. Sangat needs to stop this from happening around the world, gurdwara's are turning into money making machines and too much beadbi happens with numerous akhand paaths happening all at once. Gurbani is not ritualistic verses like brahmin veda's... Gurbani is a our guru, our teacher for our lives and we are doing so much beadbi in Akhand Paath's.

    Sangats views?

  3. Alot of the elders in the gurdwara's are not willing to allow the youth to do alot of the sewa. I have even personally been spoken rudely to by elders over issues that don't really matter, like one time I took an extra napkin, and the elder baba asked me what I was doing? These are the types of things that youth are discouraged to going to the gurdwara more often. Also I find the katha vachaks that speak punjabi are often very hard to understand and I am very fluent in punjabi, the youth would never understand what they are saying clearly. For the youth I think we often making sikhi hard to approach, which it really shouldn't be!

  4. Veer ji, why is it ok to use animal carcasses? I dont understand. As Sikhs, if we were meant to be vegetarian, should we use products which have been made from an animal?

Tabla, and some Chaurs are made from Animal parts and they are used in the gurdwara's... yet there is so much fuss about vegetarianism..

  5. Share ... for most people its weight loss.

    Guru Nanak devji says '

"Dhrig eheva jeeveiya jit khai vadaiyaa pet"

Having pot belly is not just a health concern , its also against gurmat as it symbolizes indulgence in pleasures of tongue.

    It also goes against -

"Alap ahaari sulabh si nidra " and "thora save thora hee khave"

From my experience I alwyas had a pot belly before i went vegan .... animal fats are extremely hard to burn off ......so quit that dairy and see ur didh disappear ... and the cows will be so much happier too...

A large stomach could mean more than simply being indulgent... It could be because of health reasons... Also someone who has a good metabolism and is skinny but indulges in eating just doesn't have the physical appearance of indulgence...

It's wrong to compare physical body traits to gurmat... Gurmat is about u being a Good person... A good sikh with a pot belly, who cares I just see a good sikh!

I do understand setting New Years resolutions for weight loss but no need to associate it with gurmat!

  6. Agreed after taking amrit and eating no more meat etc, i too noticed the loss of weight and reduction in my stomach size, also i noticed food seem to get digested a lot quicker as in stomach not full or bloated as long as before. best thing i ever did taking amrit and i thoroughly recommend it, go on what are you waiting for ! :biggrin2:

LOL ever since I became Vegetarian - I never lost any weight! Remember Pizza and Chips and sweets are vegetarian too :stupidme:

My Apologies as this doesn't directly have anything to do with Sikhi.

I know a lot of Sangat here are from UK, So...

I am a Singh in Canada Born, who has gotten the opportunity to live in UK for next couple years. I am just wondering a little bit more of life there.

I am quite excited as I know sikhi is full chardi kala in England!

    I am wondering...

How is job/economy in UK, and how hard it is it for a Keshdhari sikh to get a job in UK, is their still discrimination?

What is best city to live for new comer (some where accommodation is not too expensive, lots of jobs, gurdwaras etc) Also would hope close enough for day trips to London.

Is london really that expensive to live?

Any other suggestions or tips on relocating to UK from Canada?

Thank you so much in advance.

  8. I went to Darbar Sahib in February of this year, and the SGPC Sarai's wouldn't give me a room... they said they won't give to a guy alone.. and I was a NRI from Canada, but still they said no.

I then walked around and found Guru Gobind Guest house.. and the people were so nice, and they gave me a room and I had a window view of darbar sahib. I would recommend this place to every one visiting darbar sahib...
