  1. Yeh, it's not just a straightforward task, where everyone tries to justify a reason of who's responsible for what.

KARMA is from your lekha, which in turns molds and shapes your destiny.

However, this destiny is ONLY applicable if you maintain at the SAME current state of consciousness.

If you develop and evolve your soul/consciousness towards the higher states, then you, yourself change your own destiny !

For eg.. Kauda raksh, if he carried on and refused to realise God or refused to let his soul evolve higher, then his actions and pas karmic imprints would have led him to the appropriate lower destination of destiny. HOWEVER, he made the effort to listen, learn and realise, that made him ask for forgiveness

Thus, he was freed from all his destined bounds and shackles, and became ONE with supreme God conscious.

In short, your own destiny will hold strong according to your karmic actions/imprints/influences at any given state of TIME !

But , you can move out of this destined graph line, if you LEARN to evolve.

This is the REAL Learning of what SIKH actually means !!

Nice post! Hit the nail on its head there sir!

    Kid,

If you see yourself as a housewife,

dependant & abused by husband plus in-laws,

then quit studies & get married.

    Otherwise make something of yourself,

Finish studies, find a job, be independent.

    Get what you want.

    Choice is yours

    Dear brother,

I feel that you have just created such a bad image of a house wife within your post. A "housewifes" day does not stop like normal work does. To say to someone that becoming a housewife is basically doing nothing with your life is so wrong on so many levels. My great granmother was a housewife, my grandmother was a house wife, my mother was a house wife and my wife is a house wife. It is due to them, my families house exists as it does today. A "housewife" is worthy of praise, not defaming.

The gods given role of being a mother is a gift, only a mother will know the love towards her children, a woman should be married and receive this gift by being married to her husband in which they both will equally run their home in whatever role needs be. A sikhs life is in gristi, it's not all about "Finish studies, find a job, be independent.

Get what you want" as you put it. A sikh is never independent, as we are all dependant on Pramaatma.

  3. Dear sister,

I could only suggest that you concentrate on your studies and your dharam at present. Leave the whole internet business and try and explore the vast shabads of gurbani. Also, you sound like you have such a strong foundation of love for parmaatma already, build your life on that foundation, If you are going to chak amrit, the most important thing to do is to live sikhi, that means that when it comes to marriage, you should tell your mother and father that you want a amritdhari sikh as your husband with whatever other characteristics you desire, irregards of their caste. I hope and encourage my own daughter will take this approach. An amritdhari sikh should educate anyone who is diluting sikhi or have misconceptions, including parents with caste issues.

  4. Vadaiyan ji Babaji de janam dihare dian.

Before Sikhi many holy people did not wear dastaars but had long hair.

Either way they are no different from anybody that wears a dastaar, like our Gurus said everybody is equal.

Satkaar iko jehi honi chaidi, dastaar or not.

    WJKK, WJKF

totally agree with you sister, don't understand why people have to put an image of bhagat ravidas wearing a pag, never seen it before, the norms all image would be fine I think.

  5. I think what he did was the opposite of what that fool on the dating show last year did. He upped the profile of Sikhs among the general public and he came across as a humble and spiritual man. I am sure the money won't change him and for the millions watching the show for the last few weeks that he was on he has given Sikhs a positive image. Congratulations to him on winning the top prize on that show.

Yea totally agree, shame people dont shun Bhangra artists for their antics, but quick enough to shun someone like Roop Singh

  6. WJKK WJKF,

What a horrible position to be put in, im so sorry to hear the way your being treated sister.

I think you should talk to your husband about the issue with your father inlaw if you already haven't. Maybe you should try and come from the angle of actually not blaming him for your father-in-law's actions and having an argument with him, however stating that your not happy at the things being said. Really it comes down to the relationship you have with your husband, if you both are happy together, you should tell him to instruct his father he's happy with the outcome of his arranged marriage or love marriage and basically back off.

The thing is in marriage realistically, nothing's perfect! We have to build a foundation based on respect for one another, thats probably the most important thing. That the husband and wife are singing from the same hymn page. Your husband should realise that it is not the first year of marriage, it's actually your sixth, so he should realise that your not happy in a situation within the family. If your still living with your inlaws maybe you could suggest moving and getting your own house.

This is the problem in many houses across the community, no support or sound counciling from family members on both sides.

In this situation, dont forget god. As Akal purakh is the only support what is there constant in whatever situation. So, just talk to waheguru in your mind and ask for some guidance and help. He will her your call.

Also, I am in no way a professional in giving advice, but I cannot not reply to your plead as a Sikh. So stay strong, concentrate on the good things of your marriage like you toddler and try and work this out with your husband! Also remember waheguru!

  7. No I do not agree at all. Every person born into human form, takes janam due to their Karam of previous lives. To say I will take the paap of my father or mother is not valid, as we are judged on only our actions in life not any others. We can only wash our sins, not anybody else's so why would the paap of your parents Mann mat become yours? If your father murdered some one out of cold blood and threw his chance of mukhti away, how does that paap become the child's?

Everyone is accountable only to their paap as you can only claim mukhti for yourself, not anyone else!

  8. What a sad state of affairs, us sikhs all around the world have done so well financially, yet were more concerned with the gold big khanda round are necks, personal reg plates on are pricey cars, lavish weddings and the whole hog of other things.....wouldn't it be great if sikhs round the world donated a dasvand to a trustworthy organisation that sangat could vote in around the world on an international charity status, then this organisation, backed by world sikh sangats dasvand could be giving these hard working people the money they require as a loan, which in turn they would have to give a dasvand back to the organisation when the loan is settled as a non profitable organisation. We fail on so many levels as sikhs : (

  9. Thats not good advice that you received.

Its like trying to compare the shaheedee of Bhai Matee Daas to Bhai Satee Daas (GurSikhs who gave shaheedee with 9th PaatShaah). One of the GurSikhs had his mind imbued with Satnaam Waheguroo jaap while the other with Sri Japjee Sahib.

All Bhai Manj did was sewa but in end SatGuru gave him such blessings that we can't imagine.

Whether its reading Gurbani, keertan, katha or even sewa there a number of qualities that you need if you want the full benefit:

    Sharda - faith

    Bavna - love

    Nirmarta - humility

    Ekagarta- focus/concentration/one mindedness

    Saavdaan- attention/perseverance

These all come, ultimately with Guru's kirpa, but you just keep on going with whatever you are doing.

Absolutely right sir- totally agree with you !

  10. Aside from agreeing with SikhiSeeker Ji and Cisco Singh, the other important point is that via use of the term "Kirpan" Guru Sahib referred to any shastar through which the Khalsa Panth can do the "kirpa" of innocent suffering humanity in their defence. Thus any usable shastar in the instance where, for example, someone does not have access to what has recently been commonly known as a kirpan counts as a Kirpan in the way Guru Sahib referred to Shahstar in the hands of the Khalsa Panth.

Thus a gun, a spear, a sword, a knife, an axe, etc, etc all count as Kirpan in certain circumstances. When Guru Sahib advised the Khalsa Panth to be tyaar bar tyaar with access to 5 shastar always, that is what has morphed in the minds of some into the suggestion of 5 kakkars (however blunt or miniscule or unuable a a so-called micro-adornment-kirpan may be) are the requisite, when in fact Guru Sahib emphasised the Kirpan must be usable in the defense of Sarbat Da Bhalla. Furthermore, if we find African Sikhs who keep unshorn dreadlocks, Guru Sahib never meant for such members of the Khalsa Panth (from Africa) to necassarily always keep kangha should they keep Kes (in the form of uncut dreadlocks) and true Kirpan (usable shastar) as is mandatory for the Khalsa Panth.

Agree with your post brother, the issues with 5 kakkar again is another topic which confuses many Sikhs. Right or wrong, it is just another point that is not clear for anyone looking in on sikhi and wanting to become Sikh. My topic on where we have taken sikhi today raises many points of the different views all Sikhs have on Rehat. I'm worried that in the near future, any Sikh who wants to practice their Shastar vidya and participate in hunting or jhatkaa, they will be shunned as it seems people are not acknowledging the shakti side of our dharam which coincides with Bhakti.

How many of amritdhari's know the degree of force at which a Shastar/kirpaan has to be swung to inflict a fatal blow? How many of us can strike our kirpaan at the desired target accurately?

I would encourage Sikhs to remember we are a religion what utilises both Bhakti and shakti, we can debate and show our knowledge in dharmic issues and topics, which indeed is a merit. But how many of us are Tyar bar Tyar Sikhs as my brother UKLONDONSIKH rightly stated, who can physically defend our dharam?

We cant talk our fellow soldier to death in war lol, never mind not being physically strong enough, maybe we are now emotionally not strong enough for what a jang stands for and what has to be done!

  11. Someone said to me that the ultimate message of gurbani is to meditate on naam and that the general jist was har ka naam thiayo

He also said that a gursikh doing simran is untouchable (i.e gursikh who does a life time of kirtan (who understands it too)) will not match a gursikh doing a lifetime of gurmantar.). Is this true? Should I give up kirtan and mool mantra jaap if so?

    Thank you

    Dear brother,

I encourage you to do gurmantar as I encourage you to do Kirtan, also do not forget that service of people in need, is the service of akal purakh, you can sit in a room and jap naam many many times for hours, but you could also spend that free time helping the community where help is needed, holding naam in your mind at the same time, putting the message of Kirtan into practice, sharing sikhi with others in the actions you do!

  12. I agree with the majority of posts made, I think any movement towards some form of rekindling the knowledge of weaponry is a plus, whether it is gatka or any other form off Shastar vidya as many of us at present either are to thin to pick up a kirpan and wield it with the right force or too large in weight to actually be bothered.

The minimal amount of sikhs actually posting their view on this debate maybe a reflection of the actual opinion of the majority of sikhs, that it is not now necessary, however in my opinion the khalsa panth and Bhakti/shakti go side by side as our guru intended, so my question is, who are we now to differ from this and why is it happening?

We all debate on the Bhagti of our dharam, but why do we not discuss the shakti?

  13. Great question. Unfortunately for the vast majority of SIkhs the Kirpan has become purely symbolic. It's has become a "trinket" to carry as one of the 5K's.This goes hand in hand with the general disregard of the warrior lifestyle within the Kaum at large.

The Sant-Sipahi ideal coined by Guru Hargobind Maharaj and later embodied into the Sant Sipahi Khalsa Fauj by Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Mahaharaj has been left by the wayside. This has gradually happened ever since the loss of the SIkh Kingdom and times of peace. People think there is no need to have martial training or carry weapons in this day and age.

With it a lack of discipline and diregard for personal fitness, health and well being has also entered the panth. I would say hardly any Amritdharees have any knowledge of shastar or their usage, the Kirpans they carry are probbaly blunt and have most likely never been removed from their sheaths.

It is Guru Sahibs Hukum for Sikhs to be maintain physical fitness, make their bodies strong and engage in martial trianing. This is compulsory non-nerotiable. However you will learn the correct usage of shastar from gatka, do not waste your time with circus enterntaners tricks, learn a real combat art form..I have quoted several in the past..Panantukan, Kali, Eslrima, Silat, BJJ, Filipino Dirty Boxing, krabi krabong.

Although the Kirpan is an article of faith..puratan SInghs used to observe a rehit of 5 shastars.

Even in recent times, if we look at the Delhi riots of 1984, a lot of lives could have been saved had Sikhs carried shastar and been skileld in their usage, "tyar bar tyar" - Is what Khalsa should be "always ready". With racist attacks on the inrease every man, woman and child should take up physical fitness trianing and study of combat art forms.

There is a 50/50 equal realtionship between physical shakti and spirituality both must be maintained, It is the duty of Sikhs to uphold Dharam and protect the weak and down trodden this cannot be done with spiritual shakti alone.

wow great post brother, your thoughts echo my exact thoughts! May Akal Purakh bless you my brother! It would be great to hear some of our sisters opinion on this as they are our equals too, so come on sisters where are you all?

  14. WJKK, WJKF

    Dear sadh sangat ji,

After reading a recent topic, I was wondering whether many sikhs know how to use a Kirpaan, engage in combat training or know how to handle a gun? I know the definition and spiritual meaning of a Kirpaan, however are we maybe forgetting its physical purpose? Are we still a martial race in large? As to utilise a talwar or grapple, you need some form of experience in combat. How many how us engage in gatka along side doing our Paath? Many sikhs have become unhealthy and even obese in satisfying the cravings of their Mann and taste buds with fatty snacks and the extra portion of aloo gobi or kfc and fries, do we not have an obligation to our guru to stay fit and able bodied as long as we can?

Is physical shakti also not important as spiritual Bhakti?

What are other brothers and also sisters views on this?

Dear Mehtab Singh, Sikhkosh and uklondonsikh,

I wanted to bring to your attention this sufi Kalaam sung by the late sufi ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. It demonstrates the truth of waheguru in some of its beautiful lyrical content and also has references to the prophet Muhammad, as In debate, it was suggested that sufi's reject the prophet Muhammad, which clearly is not so and evident in the quwalli.

A respectful and humble benti to my sikh brothers and sisters, please do not start an insult thread on this quwalli, ustaad NFAK, it's lyrical content or the prophet Muhammad. There is a certain way a sikh of guru gobind Singh ji should conduct themselves at all times, and silly comments about the above mentioned will not be hopefully tolerated by the moderators of the site.

  16. UKL = Paji 95% of what you have posted is correct. However, i have just highlighted some important points where I strongly disagree with you. VJKK VJKF

    WJKK, WJKF

Again, nice post veer ji, obviously I disagree with slavery, rape and murder and injustice done to any insaan and as I stated, I have no issue with shiekh baba farid being Muslim, also im aware of the Sunni/Shea divide and in my research, I have only come across Sufi Muslims. The points which I have brought up are only points in my opinion on what yourself, Mehtab Singh and Sikh kosh have suggested.

Parchar and dawa are two very different things, I think you may of misunderstood me on this one. Every Sikh should be a pacharak of his faith, but i dont believe Sikhs should break down another's faith in what ever instance, our faith speaks for itself as again we do not have no concept of kafir.

The beauty of our Parchar is that we simply sing the praises of waheguru and as great musicians can make people happy, bring tears to people's eyes with emotion, make people dance with joy and put people to sleep with a soothing melody, guru nanaks Kirtan and Parchar awoke peoples sleeping souls and re-united them with the one, some call him ram, some call him Kudah, some call him Gusain and some call him Allah, he is still the same being, known by all who are faithful.

Always good to read your posts veer, keep it up!
