  1. Focus on gurbani and rest of all puzzling questions we all have will get away slowly. Sikhi is patience wala dharam.

That's a optimistical way of looking at it, however we cant just put are heads in the sand and ignore these issues. As you can already see, no one wants to really discuss these controversial issues as it may shine light on the way of life we live.

  2. Hi!

I need motivation to lose about 2 stones and am wondering if anyone on here is the same?

Is anyone on here on My Fitness Pal?

    Sister,

Too lose weight is very simple if you follow this : eat less-excersise more. So eat healthy, if you eat meat, only lean meat. Exercise a minimum of 30 mins a day... Also as I found out when I started weight training in the gym, my partner (my brother) was no partner at all... It becomes an excuse no to go to the gym when one half does not feel like it lol, so the best partner is guru Gobind Singh instructed you a Sikh should have a strong and healthy body ready to engage in battle, so keep our guru as your training partner.

    Theres no one better

    Keep it up!

  3. Perhaps the Guru didn't create one khalsa as we would like to think but created one in the way he created one entire community and every community has a cross section of different qualities. Like you have the soldiers, then the arms makers, then the writers, the preachers, but everyone has the ability to overlap if necessary. The diversity probably existed early on but the diversity of jathas is different, not as bad as people make it out to be but bad sometimes when we don't unite on issues like turban searches- since people only want their group to take the lead on it. The jatha-bandis can create great rivalry and when organizations rival one another the quality of the product or service has to increase otherwise they are out of business. All of this will benefit the quality of the parchar. People are ready to defect from one group to the other if parchar betters, and I don't see much reason to be tied down to one jatha as long as they follow the basic principles of sikhi, we don't need to always get so technical on little things when we don't get done with the big things. When sikhs lived in jungles some sikhs did act on their own to counteract mughal and afghan resistance, to deal with mercenaries that were sent after sikhs.

But besides all of that we shouldn't forget the most important part of sikhi is to be a great human being. To be good to other people, to speak with sweetness, to curb anger, to speak not blandly, not to harm others.

I can see the angle you are coming from, basically that we are a body, running of an engine made up of different engine parts, to which I can understand if all these individual groups understand the role of the other. Which they don't, Hence why their is not one body, one Panth, one movement.....its a case of my sikhi is better than yours like how children argue. This is because of the very reason of grouping which is created as we still see a difference in one another.

My previous thread on Rehat Maryade was closed for some reason, but the various Rehat Maryade cause confusion, why did these x people have the right to make their Rehat Maryada based on their opinion, should we of not just based it on the hukum of Guru Gobind Singh?

If your for example a English person looking in from the outside, we claim many things within our religion, no caste, one path, equality etc.......but really we don't now have any number of these gret things. We are proud to be Sikh and we tell everyone, but we ourselves have brought the dharma to where it is today, because we have no unity on anything, we in majority stay in our set groups, caste, jathebandi, Maryada and preach to other people were great Sikhs when i fact were to bling to see our ahankar and work together to build a solution. I do agree, their is unity on issues like bhai rajoana, however it finishes there.

Basically, we have created numerous paths which we think are right, based on our own bhudhe and self belief.

  5. This is so interestin to me. I used to h8 'pakis' but they wer just the victims of the mongols . We shud feel sorry for them as they wer forced into slaveryo

Yes it is very interesting, but please Sikha do not use racist terms as we all know how we would feel if we saw someone using racist term to Sikhs on Muslim sites? So please represent sikhi at all times. Also at that point of history, there would of been no Pakistanis as Pakistan was made in 1947.

  6. I'm sick and tired of reading topics of people complaining. If YOU see beadbi or a problem then do something about it! What is the point in watching then going on a forum to moan about it?! We can all sit behind a computer screen and complain. But guess what? That doesn't get us anywhere. So use your brain and go and tell people, put a ramaal on a child, do something! I don't know who's thicker, you for complaining or them.

    Guru de Sikha,

    ਰੋਸੁ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਸੰਗ ਕਰਹੁ ਆਪਨ ਆਪੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ रोसु न काहू संग करहु आपन आपु बीचारि ॥ Ros na kāhū sang karahu āpan āp bīcẖār. Do not be angry with anyone else; look within your own self instead.

    ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਨਾ ਜਗਿ ਰਹਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ होइ निमाना जगि रहहु नानक नदरी पारि ॥१॥ Ho▫e nimānā jag rahhu Nānak naḏrī pār. ||1|| Be humble in this world, O Nanak, and by His Grace you shall be carried across. ||1||

Why so much anger? Why say personal insults? Is that a demonstration of how passionate you are about your faith? If it is, anger or insults are not the way to vent your passion? The reason I added this topic was to discuss it with the other sikhs and understand wider opinion. Sitting behind a computer screen for some, is doing something about it as it creates awareness, are you not on here to find out what's going on in our panth on a wider geographical scale yourself? Also, I put the topic on to be discussed and find the best possible solution, which we can all replicate and try and introduce to our local gurdware. There is no reason for you to insult someone like you have, based on them not doing something how you would, all behind a computer screen, so my fellow sikh, do you think it is in a sikhs characteristic to cuss someone discussing a panthic issue?

  8. Again, I don't think in my opinion it's ok for a child to be exempt from this rule, obviously when a child is young, from birth to about 4, I agree they don't understand, however it becomes the parents and families responsibility that their child's head is covered. Even though a child is very innocent , in the sense that they can't really help or do much for themselves, that child has been born due to its Karam of previous life's to gain the life of human form. Our soul only reaches this janam to claim mukhti. So we should understand deeper meanings, by us being the parents and now not covering our children's heads because it ain't a "biggy" demonstrates how westernised our view on our own religion has become. It is simply Beadbi. I don't understand why we need to be so relaxed about this, I'm sure this doesn't happen in a Mosque or a Synagogue,

I don't believe some Giani or some random person should show the child or family up byembarrassing them. But a quite suggestion should be made. We all know that every persons head should be covered, but we really are not bothered enough to enforce it. People's spiritual growth or spiritual stunting happens on a day to day basis, but when going to the gurdwara, we are entering the guru's darbar where the guru is Prakash? We're not going to church where this rule is permitted, we're going to a gurdwara where the guru's insisted for everyone's heads to be covered!

A child in the uk generally has to wear school uniform by the age of 4, yet we find so many excuses to come up with a reason not to cover our children's heads in the gurdwara rather than just fix the problem as a parent has to say yes and no all day long, but in the gurwara, just forget it, it's alrite!

If we're ok on accepting this beadbi of the Guru Granth Sahib, then what beadbi is also going to come next and be relaxed?

  9. I'm not very surprised at the involvement I the British Government as they have robbed and raped many countries in the world, it's their robbing and raping of countries what made the money to fund the Great in Great Britain. My grandmother said, when they walked from Lahore to patiala in 1947, the English soldiers would literally watch them walk by without offering any assistance. It was due to the courage of the Gurkas and obviously the courage of themselves that many people reached the other side relatively unharmed, just how the British forces looked on then, they have once again spat in the face of sikhs, who for some reason feel some form of allegence to Britain. Even after so many years of abuse. Yes we are the most integrated immigrant community in Britain, but maybe we should of took a leaf out of the Jewish community and Muslim communities book and held back abit as our religious outlook has a been westernised, whereas the Jewish and Muslim community kept their religion as the most important aspect of them, rather than "fitting in".

  10. Haven't seen the show, am only talking about their website.

Site is just a medium, it depends on you whether to respond based on caste or not.

Browse the profiles which state "caste no bar".

    Why make a FUSS !

Were you rejected due to caste or class ?

Just remember it as a learning experience, not as failure.

A Gursikh will accept it as God's Will and let Dharamraj make pseudo- BHEKHI sikhs pay for it.

The reason I am kicking up a FUSS with you brother is because I came on here to discuss sikhi, not to see caste based shows endorsed on a "pro sikh" TV channel and then find it also on here by you described as a " matrimonial show helping young SIKHS".

Brother the answer to your question if I was rejected due to caste or class? What sort if question is that and what relevance has it got with what we have been talking about? Are you simply trying to patronise me? I wish to take amrit and when I do, I will make sure that I will do everything in my power to kick up a FUSS when people promote caste! Especially the ones with Singh and Kaur in their names.

Also, a gur sikh would not allow it as gods will, that is the reason why the khalsa wears a kirpan, to stand for justice especially when it comes to their own dharam, that's why all the gurus stood against it! However as you said if the guru's and the shaheed can see what the sikh kaum has become today, we will just reply, what's the big FUSS, doesn't matter that they died and were persecuted over their sikh principles which they never gave up? They must of had been rejected due to caste or class to do and cause all that fuss, rite Singhbj Singh

  11. there is already been enough debate regarding this, searching forums might give you your answer then posting topics like these

not interested in going thru this again

Brother, if you are not interested and do not wish to participate as you may have discussed this topic before, simply don't participate. However I haven't, I don't wish to go through topics of a similar nature, as it's already being discussed here, until the moderators deem it necessary to lock it.

  12. From the various suggestions on the topic, if the Khalsa was made only 315 years ago, which isn't very long at all, why have we become so confused? Should there not be various Rehat Maryade from a number of jathedar and just simply one? Im my understanding, Shiri Guru Gobind Singh Ji made the Amrit for one unifying nation. So why should we have to choose one Rehat over another, taking Amrit from one taksal and not the other? Is this really what we have come too in such a short time?

If the SGPC Maryada is invalid, why do Sikhs from all over the world rally and get the Akal Takhat to set the Maryada, which every Sikh should follow?

  13. Can you present the documents that states SGPC Rehat Maryada received the stamp as the final Rehat Maryada for all Sikhs? The Sikhs involved in making the big decision of whether to accept the SGPC Rehat were all broken up. Many Sikhs walked out on this decision and many expressed their view that thiis can never be the final Rehat Maryada for the Sikhs. The final decision that came out of this meeting was that this matter of Rehat Maryada will be taken up again at a later date. This later date never came and today many cunning Sikhs want rest of the Khalsa Panth to believe this is the final and only Rehat Maryada for Sikhs.

You asked me if I could produce the document which the SGPC Maryada has the final stamp by Sikhs? I'm not suggesting that this is the Rehat Maryada of all Rehat Maryade and no I obviously cant produce that document.

  14. you are the one who pointed out the cancer (caste) prevailing within the sikhs today.......I do wonder how we sikh start crying when someone calls us hindu or branch of hindus....but somehow we have proved it with our own minds and behaviour . nobody calls himself/herself singh/kaur today .our families teach us about our gotras castenames...not about singh/kaur....

Yes I agree, but as we are parent generation now, we should learn from their mistakes and do the the opposite, teach our children about Singh and lair and not jaat/paat.

  15. Dear sadh sangat ji, please educate and enlighten me as there are many gur sikhs on this site who have been granted gian from the guru. I have many questions which I need enlightening on by the sangat through debate, I hope the topic is not locked by the moderators as I'm not debating the meat issue, more so that if we did all stop eatin jhatkaa, then is it justified to use tableh and ranjit nagareh in the darbar. The reason I ask this, as I have stated in other topics, Shiri Guru Gobind Singh Ji ordered the construction of the Ranjit Nagara, the skin would of been from a goat/goats which would of been jhatkaad. Also should we stop buying leather product e.g shoes, belts, brief cases, jackets, and wallets etc? Should women who wear make up be told it is an animal based product at the same time when a sikh says we shouldn't consume meat.

Basically, is it justified to use animal based products when people say we should be strictly vegetarian, also in singing the divine shabad of Shiri Guru Granth Sahib ji whilst beating the skin of a dead animal, is this not contradictory and is it justified? I would like to add a vaar I read from dhan dhan bhai gurdas ji

An elephants flesh is not edible for he is full of pride,

The lion is also full of pride of its strength so no one eats it either,

Humble is the goat it gains honor in the here after and this world,

In all celebrations is it [the meat], acknowledged,

It [the meat], sanctifies religious gatherings and feasts,

Its meat is Pavitar [good/sacred] for the householder,

From its entrails [tendons] is string for instruments made that when they play, attracts holy men in meditation

From its skin are shoes made, which holy feet wear as they go to seek holy protection [to Guru].

With its skin are bound drums with which Kirtan [religious songs], are sung,

Hence, they [goat-skin bound drums] give great comfort.

The holy gathering is coming into the Gurus protection.

(Bhai Gurdas Jis Varan, Bhai Gurdas, Vaar 23, Pauri 16)

Sangat ji, I wish not to offend anyone, only to draw light on my reservations. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

  16. Tabla, and some Chaurs are made from Animal parts and they are used in the gurdwara's... yet there is so much fuss about vegetarianism..

    Good Point Sikhiseeker

    Veer Mannat Singh,

It's an confusing issue to me, it's like with the Ranjit Niigara, when guru gobind Singh ordered its construction, the goat/goats would have been jhatkaad, rite? Also when shaheed bhai jeevan Singh was the first person to backhand the ranjit Niigara, it was for the purpose of celebration the win of a jang, which inevitably means the slaughter of fellow humans whatever their issue? Are people forgetting that the kirpan is also a

Sword, used to kill? Yes I know its represents justice and spirituality, but at the end of the day. It is used to decapatate someone's son, brother, father, grandfather, nephew......are we forgetting we are a martial race? You can't just know how to fight in combat without training rite? The body would physically be inadequate? So we would have to train. I believe in Bhagti, but I also believe in shakti.

  17. As a person who wants to take Amrit, is the SGPC Rehat Maryada valid? The reason I ask this question is because, if you were from the outside looking in, people's beliefs and opinions differ from that of the set code of conduct? Does that not then make us look silly to the outside world? Should a new Rehat Maryada be drawn up?

  18. I am not talking about myself, you or anyone but in general.

Lets be realistic how many guys or girls have the guts to go against or leave parents.

If at all someone revolts, it is due to love not Gurmat.

Why are you forcing others, by default it is parents who find a Compatible match for kids.

If kids want to do as they please then parents should kick them out like true westerners.

Only one in a million is self made rest all enjoy fruits of seed sown by parents.

Veer, I find it extremely hard to understand your point. My angle is from a sikhi angle, you originally posted about the matrimonial show rite? I personally dont think that show should be advertised under the Sikh banner as it were, because it is caste based. This website has a no for the meat issue, i feel the same should be done when it comes to shows like the matrimonial show.

If your parents are wrong and making you so something which is against gurmat it becomes manmat. So you would follow this blindly because it came from your mum and dad? I just dont understand that. Parents can be corrected if they are wrong.

I agree with you that the majority of desk marriages are arraigned by parents, but i dont believe in caste based marriage. I believe in Sikh based marriage.

Why would you promote a website which is caste based?

Also, I am not forcing anybody, it is as per gurmat!

  19. sikh should not eat meat gurbani says hak praya nanaka us soor os gaay, gur peer hama ta pareh jah murdaar na kaheh. " The consumption of that which doesn't belong to you is like eating the forbidden foods of the hindus and muslims. The Guru will only help you if first you give up those things that belong to others. This can be in any shape or form such as others legal rights, others money or assetts or flesh.

eat meat you amass more dukh for yourselves Sant Harnam Singh Rampurkheriwale

Veer ji, why is it ok to use animal carcasses? I dont understand. As Sikhs, if we were meant to be vegetarian, should we use products which have been made from an animal?

  20. Yeah i may not be amritdhari, but at least we dont promote caste especially on Sikhi channel. Too right its daft, double daft. Anybody that is lookin for caste marriage can go on any other site.

Make me so angry to see that aunty too promoting it.

Worst program on that channel i say. Confuse the community even more. That money could be spent elsewhere thru different means.

That program got nothin to do with Sikhi, its a community program, oh yeah i forgot sangat tv for the community, then wheres the other religious castes?

    One word for it Bakwas.
