  1. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh!

    Dear Sangat:

For the month of march, Bhai Heera Singh was nominated to be the youth of the month, and after asking the interview questions it was posted on the UnitedSikhs.com website. There are many reasons why Bhai Heera Singh was selected for youth of the month, coming from such a different path into the path of Gursikhi, guru sahib has truly blessed him.

One of Heera's unique qualities is that he gave a place to stay to one of the SikhSangat.com members 'curious_man', not only that he gave him food, and transportation to places, doing so much for someone who you don't even know personally takes alot, it clearly shows Heera's personality traits.

    Congratulations! And keep on inspiring.

We are gettings emails, PMS, topics on SS board and all are pretty stressing to deal with "Why i am under moderation". Our old rule was to INFORM other moderators whether to put a particular ID under moderation or not. But that was time consuming, so we changed the rule and gave more power to mods/admins to ban the member ONLY IF he/she brokes the rules and guidelines BUT inform the affective party via PM by their own id. Since SS is growing day by day, that rule is getting useless; so we decide to introduce the "Warn Level," system. Every member will see the icons/bar under their username and the default value of warn level is 0. Nothing to worry about it, your id will not have any change by this. There are three levels and on/after 3rd warning member's id will get blocked by the system. The good thing about the system is that it force admins/mods to give the reason to the member why he/she is getting each warning. If you think you do not deserve any particular warning(s), you can send email to contact@sikhsangat.com and Admin will reply you within 7 days.

Mods are asked to revise/re-read rules and guidelines so that we can keep the quality of the forum

You probably noticed the huge banner on the right side of the forum asking for your help. We started the charity program for our Ustaad ji's family back in punjab. One of our sewadars will be visiting bhai sahib's family and handing over the sangat's bhaetaan. We will tell them that their son is not forgotten by us.

Pls. visit SikhGiving.com and help us reach our target. We sent emails to our high contacts that we know but so far none of the high ppls pitched in. On the other hand, it's very pleasant to know that so far all sewa is donated; is given by the youths. Thanks for our brothers and sisters who already donated !

So TODAY.... you can make the difference ! Spread the Word Around !

    Waheguru jee ke fateh..

In the past we received one complaint from Bhenji regarding some member was asking for information like "ASL" or IM ids using SikhSangat PM system and so on. Even though it was one complaint, we took the step of not having any thread which ask for personal information; like phone number, ids etc. (Issue date : Mar 13 2005, 11:32 PM, see bottom of the post for more information)

Recently we got two PM's, one is from phaenje and another is from singh (who is concerned) on the same problem above. We cannot do anything about this sensitive topic because we never know who is doing what. It's usually the member's responsibility to inform us about the particular member who is looking out for hook-ups with other members on this forum.

    Action by us ?

Everybody knows that Admin id is being used by male sewadars (Khalsa, Balait, S1ngh & SSCOM) and its understandable that some things can't be discussed with opposite sex. To be straight forward, some phaenjeea are shy or maybe they feel it's not good to tell about it to anyone. Just to inform sangat again that We do have Kaur sewadar on this forum and you can let her know about any stuff. She can be reached @ Kaur@sikhsangat.com

So do contact us if you think someone is bugging. Till this date we only got two complaints from kaurs but we are getting bad reports from outside world but that’s not confirmed yet and we cannot confirm it unless it comes direct from person who is involved in it. We don't know whether the problem exist or not but we would like to take the precaution. Again we cannot do anything unless you inform us. We really thank those two bibian who trust us and informed us about particular members.

To those members who are involved in sending unwanted moves, they will be banned without warning. So whether you asking for friendster/Hi5 id or whether you asking for date, DON'T USE SIKHSANGAT.COM !

Our previous action regarding this issue:

    Issue Date : Mar 13 2005, 11:32 PM

Members are advised not to add other SikhSangat.com members to messaging clients such as Yahoo!, AOL or MSN Messenger without prior consent from members through the SikhSangat.com Personal Messaging service available on the forum. Contact information is given at individuals own risk and should be aware that other board members will have the option of e-mailing or messaging users with the information provided.

  5. is it only for shabad kirtan or can we put dharmik songs on if we want too??

    124981[/snapback]

You can put anything decent you want, providing it goes in the correct forum. Like if its some funny video and is ok then you can put it in news/fun section. If its a shabad then put it in the Gurbani Section.

Due to the fact that some users might be using Firefox and firefox doesnt like to use Window Media player 9 we had to design this feature in such a way that it is compatible to both browsers. Therefore Firefox users will be able to view the videos and listen to the audios but the design of the player will be old window media player and they may see a little ugly looking scroll bar, where as Internet explorer users will see a nicly themed media player.

  6. We have added a new feature to the forum allowing Audio and Video files to be played in topics and posts. This means that any file that is playable through Window Media player can be played. The media file has to be online and it can simply be linked to the topic/post via the WMP tag.

    Usage example:

[WMP]Link to an online file that can be played through window media player[/WMP]

    e.g.

    [WMP]http://www.sikhifm.net/audio/sanjha/smagam2005/monday/bhai_sukhjinder_singh_-_deenan_kee_pritpaal.mp3[/WMP]

  7. We checked and traced the ip and sadly it exactly matched the only one ip address of the another famous sikh of uk, who is also the rare member of this forum. We will keep watch on this IP and any more wrong steps, we will ban it.

    Topic Edited & Closed!

It turned out that a visitor (cousin) of our member's house was playing around on his computer and thus found this board. He will be careful next time.

  8. Send us full details including contact information of the member and our guru jee will bless us to do something for our sikh member. Please send us the details to Contact@sikhsangat.com. We will setup the system where all can contribute. It's request to members not to post the name of the person on public forum in such cases. Thanks

  9. Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh!

    Dear Sikh Sangat,

A small but useful tool has been added to SikhSangat for anyone who wants to upload a file to be shared for the rest of the sangat.

    SikhSangat.com Upload Directory

You can chose the the file you want uploaded, and click 'Upload'. Your uploaded file will appear in the 'Uploaded Files' list. Then you can copy paste the link in a post.

  10. Gurfateh

It has come to our Attention that members are posting topics to do with Meat, Becoming Vegitarian etc however in some circumstances we have seen users abuse the gupt privilege. An example of this is in Meat topics where one user is posting from both Sides, Pro and Against.

This post is simply a reminder to everyone that even though Gupt forum ensures annominity from the members, it doesnt offer the same from Moderators and Administrators. Therefore its really easy for us to see the type of posts a gupt member makes in Gupt Forum and what their registered username is.

We do not check who is posting in Gupt forum and what their registered username is, unless the gupt user acts suspiciously. Therefore we would like to request everyone to treat the Gupt forum the same way as the rest of the forums and only post topics that require the user to remain anonymous. Any future topics that dont require the user to remain anonymous will be removed.

  11. Good Day to you

I am an ex Royal Marine. On one of our ex service websites it has been pointed out that a young Sikh lad is going through training at the moment.

The question has been posed on our site about what he does when required to wear a steel helmet or a gas mask for example.

Can he remove his turban under such circumstances, or what can he do ?

Hope you can give me some information on the subject.

    Thank you

    Edward McGinnis

Please send the information to contact@sikhsangat.com and we will forward your message to the person with your contact information (ex. email address)

  12. Gupt Forum Announcement

"Thank you to everyone who have contributed to the testing of the Gupt forum in the past month. The trial has gone extremely well and is already becoming an integral part of the SikhSangat.com Forum.

The Administrators and Moderators of the forum have recently decided to keep the Gupt forum however, we have decided to make it an intermittent feature. This means the Gupt forum will only be available during certain times and for a certain period of time. This is to encourage more n more members to join the forum and become part of the growing Sikh Sangat online.

Gupt forum will be fully open during the time period of 1st and 3rd week of each month for anonymous posts. Then this section will be disabled for new threads and it will be read only archive for the 2nd and 4th week of the month however it will still be viewable to all members and non-members.

In addition to the above changes, All new topics in the Gupt forum will be approved by the moderators to keep the quality of the topics on the forum high. Replying to Topics in Gupt forum category will remain unmoderated, and will not require approval, only the new toipcs posted under Gupt category will need approval.

We again thank each and every one of you for your continued support and help in making the SikhSangat.com Network a growing success."
