hey mark... welcome
Hi there! Thank you. I couldn't help joining the hot debate!

What do you mean by your remarks about Pendu people? My perents are from the Pends. They are as pendu as pendu can be and they are very decent and honest people.
This is a very popular word in usage by Sikhs born abroad, particularly, in Canada. I have hear it many times from my wife's side of the relatives. I thought Sikhs use this word to differentiate between the educated and not so educated segments of society.

You only became a Sikh to marry one?
You guessed it right! No, I am only joking! I spent six months in India during my gap year when I was only 18. I visited Amritsar with some friends, had a very spiritually uplifting experience while there. I decided this is what I wanted to follow and immediately spoke to some amritdhari people there. To my astonishment, I discovered that I have always been a sikh at heart even though I was not born as one. I was already into sikhi five years before I married. My main objective was to pass on what I had been blessed with to my children, my next generation, so there was no point in my marrying a non-sikh. The message of sikhi had to be passed on and I am happy to say our children are sikhs too. They are very lucky.

Everyone knows this already. Rajiv Gandhi also converted to catholic religion to marry her. Catholics can only marry in their church if they marry a catholic. He should really have been named Rajiv Khan Maino Gandhi.

"......... Rajiv had to convert to Catholicism himself in order to marry Sonia. This is because Sonia is a baptized Catholic and the Catholic Church would not solemnize her wedding to Rajiv unless he specifically converted to Christianity. That Priyanka was raised in a strictly Christian setting is apparent from her choice of husband and her voluntary participation in missionary work for the Missionaries of Charity. Priyanka's earliest role models include her imperious grandmother Indira Gandhi, her father Rajiv Gandhi and the most unabashed proselytizer of them all, Mother Teresa."
That's what made me change my religion to sikhi!

In the UK or Canada, most of the "Gorey" Sikhs are not 3HO, the majority usually learn about Sikhi, through some blessings. The first Gora Sikh was Max Arthur McAuliffe, before 3HO even existed. Martin Singh also. Became a Sikh without 3HO influence. It's really on relevant in America.
Thanks.

Very racist subject. Brown sardanies look nicer in or out of the sikh clothes. :biggrin2:
My wife is a 'brown sardarni' as you put it, and she is a very beautiful lady. You should ignore the person who initiated this topic. It was a stupid thing to do with equally stupid (burlesque) message for the desi ladies to learn from the picture.

That is also promoting a form of racism, just because you feel one race looks nicer doesn't mean you should just say it on a form, especially in a religion that says,"Recognize all other women other than your wife as mothers and sisters. Do not engage in marital behaviour with them." 52 Hukams.
It is a way of promoting racism. The person should not have posted the picture and added comments for the 'desi' ladies to learn something from it. This is very insulting thing to do for the desi ladies. I am married to a desi lady and she is very clever and stunning looking. She does not need to be told to learn something from this picture depicting a gorie lady. She is a bright person.

Just to be fair, not all white Sikhs are 3HO, some of them just came to Sikhi another way than yoga. I personally met a non-3HO white Sikh, it's just the most popular.
Majority are 3HO sikhs sorry to say. Harbajan does not represent what you call your normal sikhi. I abhor people that try to put 3HO sikhs on the pedestal just becaus they happen to be gorehs. This is done mostly by those that have their roots in punjab sadly! In fact, if you study them properly they are not sikhs but hindus in the disguise of sikh bana, because they don't do anything which resembles your normal day to day sikhi who are amritharies. I became a amrithari sikh by going to my local gurudwareh where I lived 20 years ago and I see the difference.
The person that started this topic should have had some sense before starting this debate. People are bound to interpret or react to his or her motive for doing so in different ways.

what's the magic of Turban? It purifies you, your personality ,stops you to do wrong things, keep you away from bad company and you are always enjoying your life with those people who believe in spending their life reasonably and meaningfully.....I felt that thing inside me and the same feeling I m giving to the other people now ... That's why whenever it comes to judge the good qualities of any guy ..A turban guy will become the best choice .........
I agree. Nice one.

I had a rough idea and often wondered why would they use it to this extent when it meant bad.
