  1. Thanks guys

I tried to get the points across and we had some great feedback, hopefully we can continue this conversation

I think everyone is pretty much agreed on the fact that gurdwara comittees are failing to engage the youth and are failing in a big way so they need to change

I think the biggest thing we can do as sangat is to withhold their money and only support projects they think will help the community, rather then backing ridiculous building extensions they should find projects that are engaging young people and supporting the community in a positive way or use your money to setup these initiatives yourself.

The sangat should be vocal and make sure that the committees are aware of what the sangat wants and needs are.

Its time for change but change only comes if, rather then have defeatist attitude, we campaign and strive for it - rally people who are like-minded

make sure all the sangat are agreed and wants to see this change and the comittees will have no choice but to bow to the demands of the sangat.

  2. We have been asked to take part in a show on sikh channel tonight sunday 29th September

On how gurdwaras should be supporting the youth

Some ideas we will be discussing

    - classes held in gurdwaras

    - youth clubs

    - social workers available in gurdwara

    - english translations

    - martial arts classes

    - english speaking gyanis

    - financial support for youth projects

Would very much like to ask if anyone has any particular issues they would like us to raise

And would also appreciate any feedback after the show.

  3. Anyway back on topic, Shastar Vidiya classes are first and foremost martial arts classes your not going there for religious education, spirituality lessons. You are there to learn a combat system and the history and tradition that the system is derived from.

    I think what concerns people is that once someone starts to go to these classes there seems to be;

    - a gradual disintegration of spirituality and dharam

    - abandoning of paath or kirtan : as if it is something that is not needed as a warrior and only for saintly people

    - they start to distance from their sangat and close friends into an isolated group of people from the akhara

    - have a belief that other mainstream Sikhs are in some way inferior or are living a British lie and do not know the real Sikhi which is sanatan

    - a gradual change in turban style and behaviour to mimic that of their new leader ; a very cocky and arrogant attitude

    - they seem to propagate this myth that all other mainstream Sikhs are mindless brainwashed extremists

    - a tendency to bring up controversial topics just to provoke a reaction

    - some will start to partake in alcohol or casual marijuana use

    - will not accept any criticism aimed towards Nidar

there are a few others but it seems cisco you have proven the point i have been trying to make all along.....

if Nidar's shastarvidiya classes have no spirituality or dharam then they cannot be the "Martial way of Guru Gobind SIngh ji"

as sometimes Guru would abandon all logic of warfare and traditional battle tactics by sitting down to do Asa Di Vaar while in battle situations

and sending his sons out to fight knowing full well there was no chance they could win the battle, instead they conquered the world

by sacrificing this body, but never abandoning the light of allegiance and love to God.

how can a man who says there is no need for warriors to do prayer be a Sikh of Guru Gobind Singh ji who said in bhai Nand Lals Tankhanama that a Sikh should not eat without doing japji, should not pass evening without rehraas, and should not sleep without doing Kirtan Sohila.

Then there is the most famous story of Bhai Dalla who egotistically kept boasting to Guru Gobind Singh ji about his great warriors. Guru Gobind Singh ji asked him to present his warriors so that he could test his gun, dalla and his warriors stalled and noone came forward, but two Singhs who were doing seva in the Langar came running offering themselves as targets, even fighting each other for the chance. showing dalla that it was not great warriors but those who were willing to give their head, wealth and all in return for the Love of their beloved.

This story reminds me of the Shastarvidia going on about their ancient "original" art and last Sikh Warrior status symbol, referring to their many interview battles in the magazines and newspaper articles.

It is this lack of Dharam and spirituality which is the problem with Nidar! and why we advise our young people to stay away from him.

Guru Gobind Singh ji made us Sant-Sipahi

Guru Hargobind Sahib ji wore two Swords - Miri and Piri - teaching the Sikhs that both need to go hand in hand, Spirituality and Sikh warfare go hand in hand.

the bola of the Nihang Singhs goes....

Bani Bana Pankh Pashano, Singh Guru ka Panchi Jano, pehlo bani fir bana

Spirituality and uniform, recognise as two wings, Know a sikh of the guru as a bird that can fly, but first must come Spirituality and then Uniform

  4. i do believe that we need to make change in the Sikh community and organisations and the best way to do it is with our MONEY

if a gurdwara asks you for building fund then ask them what they are doing for the community or the youth - and ask them what use are big buildings when there's no parchaar

we were recently told by a gurdwara they wouldn't pay for a kirtan teacher because they need money as they want to extend the building

to which i said "what use is a building if there's no sangat"

when gurdwara people ask sangat for money everyone feels obliged because its religious and we should give, but i say DONT

give it to Khalsa Aid, SOPW, widow colony,Sikh Helpline, Basics of Sikhi, , Sikh awareness society . anywhere that is actively doing something to help the community

and tell the gurdwara comittees we DO NOT NEED MASSIVE BUILDINGS !

if we don't give them the money then they cant make useless empty buildings.

  5. I just love this video ! this is the shorter version and far more interesting

    https://vimeo.com/67993514

I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but this is an absolute genius level of comedy

any credibility that was left was smashed by this video,... hehhehehee

plus I love the bit, where his student prophesises the reincarnation of the yet unborn legend of Shastarvidiya, that will one day walk through the doors of the akhara and save shastarvidiya for all mankind.

and his son is a legend....

...brilliant ! whoever made this video should get an award !

one thing which struck me as odd is that whenever Nidar does a demo with his students, they all tend to 'pull their punches hold back and kind of are programmed to let him do his thing and ensure he looks good'. there are many occasions where they could just make a strike from behind or show that he has prematurely turned his back to an opponent with a simple strike to the head or neck, but they just hold back

also why is he teaching his students to fight from within the middle of a group of attackers, throwing out strikes randomly like a madman, surely you should pick one assailant and try to put him between you and the rest of the group, get on the outside so you are in a much better position to make an escape or be able to retaliate in any realistic way. and some would say you should never get into that situation in the first place.

the fact that Nidar went on national media and said he is the last shastarvidiya master, is a besti to his students, because it implies that none of his students are really good enough or have the potential to take over after him, so he is having to resort to advertising in mainstream newspapers looking for a potential candidate, who can show more promise then his current 'supposedly' useless students.

  6. Pretty Ironic ! hehehehhe

A 23-year-old man was hit with a brick, stabbed and robbed after picking up one of the first copies of Grand Theft Auto V at midnight.

The victim was attacked after he left an Asda store in north London just 80 minutes after the notoriously violent video game went on sale.

He was stripped of his mobile phone, watch and his copy of GTA V near the supermarket.

The man is now recovering in hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "The victim had been shopping and was on his way home when he was hit with a brick.

"He was then stabbed and robbed."

Police, who were called to Princes Avenue in Colindale at 1.22am, said the motive for the attack was unclear.

GTA 5 torture row: Teachers slam scenes of extreme violence in most expensive game ever made 17 Sep 2013 00:00

In the 18-rated violent crime game’s most shocking scene yet, the player is instructed to pull out his victim’s teeth with a pair of pliers

    620-GTAV-1-2277596.jpg

A brutal scene in a new computer game where players carry out gruesome torture techniques has been condemned by teachers.

Today sees the official release of Grand Theft Auto 5, one of the most highly-anticipated games of all time.

But it has sparked fears from the Association of Teachers and Lecturers about the impact of its extreme violence on youngsters.

In the 18-rated violent crime game’s most shocking scene yet, the player is instructed to pull out his victim’s teeth with a pair of pliers.

Gamers then perform the controversial ‘water boarding’ torture technique by pouring a flammable liquid over a victim tied to a chair.

Players then smash the victim’s kneecap with a monkey wrench and give him electric shocks using spark plugs as he pleads for mercy.

Alison Sherratt, president of the Lecturers and Teachers Association, insists such extreme violence should not be included in video games.

She said: “Up until now we’ve been warning of the dangers of children seeing these games but saying it’s the parents responsibility to keep children away from these video games.

“But this scene takes things a step too far and the games makers need to consider what they are producing.

“Children in our playgrounds are displaying more violence and we have conducted polls and found they are viewing games like GTA.

“My concern is that little brother or sister walk in to the room and start watching something like this because an older brother is playing it.

“They don’t understand the difference between reality and fiction because it’s so awfully graphic and real. and they do copy it.

“They imitate what they see and this scene is taking it way too far."

Labour MP Keith Vaz says he is “astonished” by the controversial torture scene in GTA 5.

The chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee has tabled a number of Early Day Motions calling for a curb on gaming violence in the past - including after Anders Breivik’s 2011 massacre.

Mr Vaz said: “I am astonished at the level of violence depicted in this game.

“It is worrying that this type of content could be accessed by young people, particularly considering the previous links to real-life violence.

“It is important that the video game industry takes steps to fully inform the public about the level of extreme content.

“Responsibility also lies with parents to ensure that their children do not access these types of games until it is appropriate.”

The Lecturers and Teachers Association has carried out interview research it claims shows video games are increasing violence among primary school-aged children.

Ms Sherratt added: “We’ve had children crashing into others in toy cars in the playground.

"When asked about it they say they have been watching Grand Theft Auto. They are quite open about it. And these are children of nine and ten.”

Players choose one of three career criminals to play as before, shooting, stabbing and crashing their way through meticulously recreated American cities.

With a £170 million budget which dwarfs even Hollywood blockbusters, GTA 5 is easily the most expensive game ever made.

More than 25 million copies are expected to be making their way into homes around the world generating a staggering £1billion for Scottish creators Rockstar North during the first year alone.

Amazon is currently investigating after some customers who ordered their copy online received it earlier than its strictly enforced deadline of today.

The online retailer said only “a small number” of customers had been affected, adding: “We have established processes in place to deliver new titles to customers on their release date and are looking into the circumstances that led to a small number of customers receiving this game earlier than intended on this occasion.”

The franchise’s remorseless crime and violence have attracted criticism from campaigners who claim it leads to real-world violence.

However, a recent high profile study published in Springer’s Journal of Youth and Adolescence found no link between youth violence and video games.

Rockstar North has not yest commented on the controversial torture scene.

  8. Tomorrow GTA 5 will be released - its an 18 rated game but i am still shocked at how many parents let their under-age kids play games like this and games like Call of Duty.

the ESRB has stated the reasons for its Mature content classification as

“The game includes depictions of sexual material/activity: implied fellatio and masturbation; various sex acts that the player's character procures from a prostitute—while no nudity is depicted in these sequences, various sexual moaning sounds can be heard. Nudity is present, however, primarily in two settings: a topless lap dance in a strip club and a location that includes male cult members with exposed genitalia in a non-sexual context.
“Some sequences within the larger game allow players to use narcotics (e.g., smoking from a bong, lighting a marijuana joint); cocaine use is also depicted. Players' character can, at various times, consume alcohol and drive while under the influence. The words “f**k,” “c*nt,” and “n**ger” can be heard in the dialogue.”

Now i'm not against games, i am an avid gamer and have pretty much played every major game to be released within the past 15 years, but i find that these games are really unsuitable for young children. When i was younger my parents didn't know anything about games, they just thought it was donkey kong and line tennis. So when games got really realistic they didn't have a clue the sort of stuff i was playing. But even then, back in our day Wolfenstein wasn't so realistic and didn't have the same impact as modern games which have real human looking characters and realistic blood damage effects.

These days you have realistic looking characters and in gta's case quite misogynistic content which degrades women and gives the wrong kind of message to young people about how women should be treated. Also a problem is these children being introduced to themes and concepts that are presented not within historical or educational context but in a very gung-ho kill as much as you can kind of attitude.

i guess for a sensible adult these games can be ok, and its not real so its just a bit of escapism - but for children this game can be quite damaging towards building their initial ideas on sex and morality- i think that older siblings and cousins must also be careful not to play these games around younger siblings.

another issue is online gaming - you can check who your kids are playing with when they come over to your house but online they just wearing a pair of headphones and you don't know who's playing with them and what they are saying. A lot of the time there is some very offensive cursing and swearing between players which can be switched off so your child can play online without having to listen to it.

I play games like call of duty and battlefield but never in front of my kids, until they reach a maturer age where they can understand the context within which the game is being played.

my benti to parents is that they check carefully what games they buy for their kids and make sure the content is suitable, and also play games with your kids but restrict their time or use it as an incentive to complete homework or do other tasks.

I do believe that games are a powerful medium and can help in engaging young children and can be great fun played in a family atmosphere. Here are some suggestions for kids

    little big planet 1&2

    Lego adventure games

    Rayman legends

Disney games (toy story, universe, )

    Kinect games

racing games such as need 4 speed & burnout

Sports games such as Fifa or Pro evo

and for the older lot halo 2 ,3 or 4 is good as a shooter as it more fantasy based and involves shooting aliens, not realistic looking humans.

  9. back to grooming topic - once a victim does go to the police they need help and protection from their community

Brierfield sex grooming gang member is jailed

    10:00am Saturday 7th September 2013 in News

A BRIERFIELD man who tried to scupper a major sex abuse trial by cajoling the teenage victim into writing a retraction letter has been jailed for four years.

Qasim Hussain took the girl from Brierfield to Bradford to pen the bogus letter, shortly before she was due to give evidence of being abused at an East Lancashire property.

The ‘respectable’ family of the 20-year-old were left devastated to discover what Hussain had become embroiled in, Preston Crown Court was told.

Prosecutor Amanda Johnson said police also raided the family home in Townley Street, Brierfield, at the end of May 2012, discovering six wraps of cocaine in an outhouse and three sets of digital scales, one smeared with traces of the drug.

The court heard Hussain also tried to con the authorities while on bail in separate criminal proceedings.

He claimed he needed to return to Brierfield while a bail address in Bolton was being renovated. But enquiries made with his landlord exposed this as lies.

Hussain, formerly of Townley Street, but later of Bacup Road, Rawtenstall, was found guilty of perverting the course of justice in relation to the girl after a Burnley Crown Court trial.

He admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to supply and the further charge of perverting the course of justice.

Mark Stuart, defending, said: “His family has never been to court before and the cannot believe that a boy of theirs who has been brought up properly has done the things he has done.”

Sentencing judge Jonathan Gibson was given reference letters from two councillors and a local youth worker.

Jailing him, the judge said: “You were convicted by the jury of an extremely serious perverting the course of justice offence.”

Six men were originally on trial for abusing the girl, then aged 12, in Brierfield but five men walked free after the girl changed her statement.

Mohammed Imran Amjad, 26, of Halifax Road, Brierfield, was jailed for four years and three months earlier this year after admitting to child abduction and sexual activity charges relating to the girl.

His brother, Furqan Amjad, 23, also of Halifax Road, was imprisoned for 15 months after admitting to perverting the course of justice. He was said to have bombarded the youngster with 350 text messages.

  10. this is a very important document that everyone should look at - there should be no doubt that we protect our young people from anti-panthic cults like these

Here is a letter from The Council of Sikh Gurdwaras in Birmingham (CSGB) which represents all the Gurdwaras in Birmingham to the Khalsa Jatha Gurdwara in Shepherds Bush who have been up until recently holding Snatan Hindu-Sikh Shastarvidiya Classes taught by Nidar the fake Nihang who has been exposed as a liar claiming to be the last Sikh warrior. The letter also clearly states that Nidar has been banned from teaching or preaching his ideology at all Birmingham Gurdwaras.

    Our Ref: DPB/NSSBG
    Date: 31/07/2013
Dear honourable and respected President and Management Committee
Central Gurdwara (Khalsa Jatha) Shepherds Bush, London
Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh
We write to you with deepest respect and humility for the historic platform that
Guru Ji has blessed you to serve.
We have been contacted by various members of the Sikh community who have
visited Central Gurdwara with veneration, but have asked us to formally share
concerns with you, of which you may not already be aware, in relation to the
teaching of Shastar Vidya at Sheperds Bush Gurdwara Sahib, which we
understand is administered under the tutelage of a Gatka Akhara headed by
    Nidar Singh.
For some years now there have been substantial anxieties about the nature of
practices passed on by, the ideology espoused and preaching done by Nidar
Singh and/or his associates. Many people, some of whom have been former
students and close associates and social friends with him and those close to
him, have raised concerns that they have found the teaching of Shastar Vidiya
to be misleading to vulnerable and impressionable young people who may
come to learn this Sikh martial art. For example many young people have laid
witness to the propagation of the use of Alcohol and Marijuana and even the
practice of removing bodily hair for amritdharis. There are incidents shared
where Sikhi aspirants who never drank or consumed drugs, are now socially
active in these practices; more concerning, however, is that the social practice
is often taking place within the same social group that the Shastar Vidiya akhara
students form, rather than a circle that some students may frequent
    inadvertently.
There is direct evidence of Nidar Singh and his associates actively propagating
contra Khalsa Panth ideology by actively promoting a “Snatan Hindu-Sikh
ideology” and stating that Sikhs are part of Hindu religion, not unique and
separate (i.e. not a vakhri kaum or nation from Hindu ideology) which
undermines the foundation of the establishment of the Khalsa Panth. Please
see attached quotations from his websites (www. 1
www.) on which Sikh history is distorted by attributing misquotes to
historic figures, and misrepresenting key historic events, in order to substantiate
    this Snatan ideology.
In this respect all Sikh Gurdwaras in Birmingham and the surrounding areas,
since becoming aware of the nature of Nidar’s beliefs, his teachings and
practices have banned Nidar Singh from teaching at the Gurdwara Sahibs
including Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara, Wolverhampton
These moves were initiated by Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Handsworth Wood,
Birmingham cancelling classes taught by Nidar in early 2012, which culminated
after a large meeting of over 150 people of broad backgrounds and jathas. After
which the Committee of the Gurdwara Sahib took a decision to deny a platform
to the anti-Sikhi ideology that is presented through Nidar Singh and his network,
and the danger they pose to our youth to take them away from Guru Granth
    Sahib ji’s philosophy.
We hope that you will take this correspondence in the spirit intended, and we
trust that along with other Gurdwara Sahibs, The Council of Sikh Gurdwaras in
Birmingham, Sikh Societies and jathe bandies (as per attached documents),
that the committee of Shepherds Bush Gurdwara Sahib distance themselves
from Nidar Singh and ensure the protection and safeguarding of the sangat who
come to spiritually and physically excel in Guru Ji’s sanctuary.
Please support these steadfast efforts to deny any group or individual a platform
at any Gurdwara Sahib, to spread ideology that in itself contradicts Sikh
teachings and practice, and takes Sikhs away from Guru Ji.
We are available to provide any further evidence or support you may require.

  11. This is a really interesting view on the subject and this time its a muslim imam who is also sharing the same concerns.

the same Imam - Dr Taj Hargey who features in this article:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Oxford grooming ring was promoted by imams who encourage followers to think white women deserve to be “punished”, an Islamic leader has claimed.

Dr Taj Hargey, imam of the Oxford Islamic Congregation, said race and religion were inextricably linked to the recent spate of grooming rings in which Muslim men have targeted under-age white girls.

Earlier this week seven members of a child sex ring from Oxford were found guilty of forcing under age girls to commit acts of "extreme depravity".

Their victims, aged between 11 and 15, were groomed and plied with alcohol and drugs before being sexually assaulted and forced into prostitution. They targeted "out of control" teenagers.

Dr Hargey said that the case brought shame on the city and the community and is a set back for cross community harmony.

But worse still is the refusal to face up to its realities, he wrote in the Daily Mail.

The activities of the Oxford sex ring are “bound up with religion and race” because all the men - though of different nationalities - were Muslim and they “deliberately targeted vulnerable white girls, whom they appeared to regard as 'easy meat', to use one of their revealing, racist phrases”, Dr Hargey said.

That attitude has been promoted by religious leaders, he believes. “On one level, most imams in the UK are simply using their puritanical sermons to promote the wearing of the hijab and even the burka among their female adherents. But the dire result can be the brutish misogyny we see in the Oxford sex ring.”

People tiptoe around the issues and refuse to discuss the problems exposed by the scandals such as those “from Rochdale to Oxford, and Telford to Derby”, he wrote.

In all cases the perpetrators were Muslim men and the victims were under age white girls.

To pretend it is not a problem is the Islamic community is “ideological denial”, Dr Hargey said.

“But then part of the reason this scandal happened at all is precisely because of such politically correct thinking. All the agencies of the state, including the police, the social services and the care system, seemed eager to ignore the sickening exploitation that was happening before their eyes.

“Terrified of accusations of racism, desperate not to undermine the official creed of cultural diversity, they took no action against obvious abuse.”

The men were allowed, he said, to come and go from care homes by the authorities, and if the situation had been reversed with gangs of white men preying on Muslim teenagers ”the state's agencies would have acted with greater alacrity.”

True Islam preaches respect for women but in mosques across the country a different doctrine is preached - “one that denigrates all women, but treats whites with particular contempt,” the Imam said.

The men are taught that women are “second-class citizens, little more than chattels or possessions over whom they have absolute authority," he claims in the column.

“The view of some Islamic preachers towards white women can be appalling. They encourage their followers to believe that these women are habitually promiscuous, decadent, and sleazy — sins which are made all the worse by the fact that they are kaffurs or non-believers.

“Their dress code, from miniskirts to sleeveless tops, is deemed to reflect their impure and immoral outlook. According to this mentality, these white women deserve to be punished for their behaviour by being exploited and degraded.”

Such cases can only be prevented in the future if Britain abandons the blinkers of political correctness, he concludes.

  12. This is City Sikhs Networks statement - they are very left and in denial in some areas, have said good things in other areas

The City Sikhs Network is appalled by the sexual grooming of Sikh girls and young women by men of Pakistani origins as reported on BBC1′s Inside Out on Monday evening. Such harrowing acts sadly take place within many communities, as the recent cases in Oxford, Leicester and Telford have shown. It is imperative for all people, regardless of background, to tackle sexual abuse and help the victims of grooming.

However, these are not the acts of religious people. These are the acts of criminals, purely and simply. No religious text supports or condones child sexual grooming, and anybody who commits such acts cannot be said to be a member of a religious faith. They are criminals who should be punished severely by the justice system.

The City Sikhs Network is also adamant that the children who have been groomed in this way are not to blame for such acts. We need to support young people of any background who have been subjected to sexual grooming in order to protect such individuals, and we ask all people who have been affected by this to come forward and report such acts to the Police to prevent any further criminal acts.

If you are a victim of sexual abuse or grooming, ChildLine provides confidential support 24 hours a day. Please visit www.childline.org.uk or call 0800 1111.

Param Singh We live in a country which values freedom of speech and where people are free to express their individual thoughts , ideas, concepts, visions, research and knowledge. Every persons perspective is different in some ways. Difference is a good thing because it is how people and society develop and grow.

A month ago Param Singh was arguing with us calling us racists for even mentioning this issue - today i asked him why he didn't believe us and it took the BBC to do a documentary for him to acknowledge it and he replied with i never denied it and islam isn't evil - to which i replied no one is saying that we just saying there's a problem and how are we going to deal with it

then i asked him what does he and Shitty Sikhs see as the way forward to help the community in this aspect and i'm still waiting for a reply. the Shitty Sikhs Network don't represent or reflect the Sikh community anyway so i don't think anyone cares about what they say and doubt they will do anything to help the situation other then turn up to a few meetings and be the token turban people to give the impression of diversity.
