  1. Traditionally the couple meet for the first time on their anand karaj, but with divorces on the up the youth nowadays want to know their potential partner beforehand. Times have changed and I believe for the better; equalityis actually being practiced. Back to the issue: I see no wrong doings here, especially if the bhenjee is of the marrying age.

And sorry KFI but who the hell are you?

    Your people skills somewhat lack.

    I agree Flirting is thuggi.

  2. Fateh bhenjee

I thought I shed some light on to your situation (in a practical sense).

    • Firstly, if the guy likes you then he definitely would have said it if nothing more.

    • Secondly there will be a good explanation as to why things are stalled - maybe you lack an essential component which prevents him approach your parents for marriage? (or vice-versa)

    • Thirdly, this might be an awkward time to propose anything - already lots to do (busy with college) or nothing to do (unemployed).

I can see how if someone else proposes to him may eventuate in you having feelings of missing out. The guy is right to say all is in bhaana.

Since you have asked for help/advice my suggestion is to ask him in a poised and fairly laidback manner of what he thinks about the possibility of marriage and what obstacles exist (if any). Keep your composure and not show any emotions, hopefully you in return will get a honest and constructive response.

You never know bhenjee, you might be engaged next week :D

    Fateh.

  3. Everyone who knows me, will know how much love I have for Taksali Singhs.

I first took amrit in Derby organised by damdami taksal sevadars, however as all sikhs in their spiritual progression want help, I went back to see my panj pyarey (at a rehansbai keertan).

Guru ji did bakshish on me and granted me with naam driddh

Its funny how I get fellow taksalis come up to me and start 'jatha bashing' towards akj, whom organised the second amrit sanchar i became pesh. My big blue round gol pag is cool, looks like bhindrawale style! :D

  4. We should have a universal turban day for EVERYONE! all us sikhs can tie turbans for non-sikh friends and those 'sikhs' that dont wear turbans! it will be a universal experience!

It would also give a chance to some people to wear a dastaar with an excuse, who may be under pressure for being told not to!

possible days would be on vaisakhi and guru nanak dev jis gurpurab.

    what does everyone think!

  5. Summer is here soon, so get practicing before you get back to school. When I used to go back to school after summer holidays, my classmates always changed somehow: some changed for the worse and some for the better. My point is that I expected changes after summer so this is an ideal oppurtunity to change and perfect your dastar - and impress your mates when you go back to school. When I first wore a dastaar I practiced it evey day of the summer holidays as I wanted it to be perfect and to tie it in a reasonable amount of time each morning. Come september of that year and I forgot that I was wearing a dastaar for the first time to school since I was wearing it for the past 4 weeks non-stops whilst going shopping, gurdwara, trips, cinema, and at home.

I have no doubt your mother will support you if shes always thinking for your best. Most parents are usually overwhelmed if their kids are inclined towards sikhi and often want them to surpass their achievements blush.gif

  6. Before over-parnio/insecure sikhs call this hindu mat, rss and blah blah. Most of famous sikh saints have described their teachers/precedessors as 108. One instance- Sant gyani jarnail singh khalsa bhindranwale uses 108 to do upma of his precedessors- sant gyani gurbachan singh ji bhindranwale in baba ji's barsi.

108 is not only used by Hindu Dharam, it's actually used by many eastern dharam and spiritual/mystical traditions.

Also good read: Writer: Eddie S. Singh

 Sanskrit alphabet: There are 54 letters in the Sanskrit alphabet. Each has masculine and feminine, shiva and shakti. 54 times 2 is 108.

 9 times 12: Both of these numbers have been said to have spiritual significance in many traditions. 9 times 12 is 108. Also, 1 plus 8 equals 9. That 9 times 12 equals 108.

     Powers of 1, 2, and 3 in math: 1 to 1st power=1; 2 to 2nd power=4 (2x2); 3 to 3rd power=27 (3x3x3). 1x4x27=108

 Time: Some say there are 108 feelings, with 36 related to the past, 36 related to the present, and 36 related to the future.

 8 extra beads: In doing a practice of counting the number of repetitions of the mala, 100 are counted as completed. The remaining are said to cover errors or omissions. The 8 are also said to be an offering to God and Guru.

 Chemistry: Interestingly, there are about 115 elements known on the periodic table of the elements. Most of those, around or higher than the number 100 only exist in the laboratory, and some for only thousandths of a second. The number that naturally exist on Earth is around 100.

 Sun and Earth: The diameter of the sun is 108 times the diameter of the Earth.

 Numerical scale: The 1 of 108, and the 8 of 108, when added together equals 9, which is the number of the numerical scale, i.e. 1, 2, 3 ... 10, etc., where 0 is not a number.

 Hinduism: 108 is said to refer to the number of Hindu deities. Some say that each of the deities has 108 names.

 Islam: The number 108 is used in Islam to refer to God.

 Jain: In the Jain religion, 108 are the combined virtues of five categories of holy ones, including 12, 8, 36, 25, and 27 virtues respectively.

 Sikh: The Sikh tradition has a mala of 108 knots tied in a string of wool, rather than beads.

 Chinese: The Chinese Buddhists and Taoists use a 108 bead mala, which is called su-chu, and has three dividing beads, so the mala is divided into three parts of 36 each.

 Stages of the soul: Said that Atman, the human soul or center goes through 108 stages on the journey.

 Meru: This is a larger bead, not part of the 108. It is not tied in the sequence of the other beads. It is the quiding bead, the one that marks the beginning and end of the mala.

 Dance: There are 108 forms of dance in the Indian traditions.

 Praiseworthy souls: There are 108 qualities of praiseworthy souls.

I can get to 108 using 9 and 12. Does that count?
