This is not a thread to start bashing any castes or areas of Punjab so please don't make it into that.

Generally speaking there has been a mass influx of backward punjabi pendus in Canada the last 5-10 years and I think it's hurting the community as a whole.

The Sikh community in Canada has always been looked upon as well integrated and highly educated. However, recent trends are not good. These backward uneducated pendus are absolutely disgraceful in their conduct. The majority of them came here via fake marriage sponsorship where 2 families make a "deal" where you marry our person from India and our person in Canada will marry one of yours in India.

I was born in the 80s and I know with my parents and others from the 70's, 80's, and 90's, they had an appreciation for what this country has given them in terms of opportunity. Thankfully the 2nd generation has educated themselves well and gotten into highly professional positions. However, these backward pendus today have no appreciation and bring their desi garbage here.

There are not people you can reason with. I saw one guy who was clearly drunk as a skunk embarrassing himself. I tried to reason with him but he threatened me and said 'do you know my uncle is the sarpanch? We have 10 acres of land. I'm the son of a jatt, <banned word filter activated> off'.

As a community what can we do about this to avoid being labelled as a backwards community that cannot integrate in this country?

Bai ji, no offence to you but i want to share  my views as well.

I also came and settled in canada as a student in many yrs ago. All what you are saying is true I accept. But there is an other side of the coin as well which you may be not aware of. I accept many punjabi student from rich backgrounds come here and do very low grade acts but the punjabis like you who settled here 30 yrs ago also not too good as well. Here are some examples that happened with me

    1. The punjabi canadian who settled decades ago, usually their business is now running with the help of punjabi students, i am currently in Calgary, 70/100 truck drivers here are punjabi students. 50/100 are paid less and given stress more. Punjabi employers like CTX logistics, Stryder Motorfreight, NorthX transport, GraceRoadlines, Lightspeed Logistics, RedMapple Transport are taking advantage of their student status. They pay less and force them to work long hrs more than 13 hrs drive time which is illegal in canada. ( plz don’t say that why don’t they complain- they are stuck, they have to be slaves till they get PR)

    2. Singhs who came here in refugee 1984 cases are now well settled and now they are taking advantage of students. The famous singh shaheed baba gurbachan singh manochals son is well settled here in brampton now on one side they want khalistan as its their right and on the other side he pays less to students for this construction and fence work.

Almost all punjabi enployers at gas stations, restaurants and everywhere pays less to students, it is not good bai ji

    3. I accept some punjabis did bad acts in toronto, fighting near sheridan college. Now I used to study there as well 6 yrs ago. Now there were about 3-4 fights and all You people started making campaigns to government that STOP PUNJABI STUDENTS, stop punjabi students. As a result, now all toronto area started to hate all students.  Gurudwaras are now moving from their religion.

dont u know  Malton Gurughar stopped a young student to sit in a langar beacuse he comes everyday?

what about similar stories in BC and other main cities? Stopping a student to eat in langar makes punjabi community bright ?

i accept its legal to campaign but but about the punjabis who settled here in canada 30 yrs ago by using marriage falsely. Haven’t you not studied the cases where sisters got married to their cousins just to get PR,  daughter-in-laws married to father to get her family to toronto? Isn’t it smell more like a skunk?

Remember what happened in USA gurughar on last vaisakhi? Remember the poor condition of sachkhand room of Malton gurughar? Almost all canadian gurughar members are fighting, disrespecting just for money- is it respectful for the community?

And when 15 yrs ago, a punjabi wife gives birth to a bkack boy- what kind of respect it give to our community?

punjabi employers in BC usually takes 20,000$ from students and visitors to get them PR, harash them, underpay them and when they get their PR- they started to say- they are disrespectful to old punjabi community.

i have 5-6 pages to write, but going to sleep now. In short what u said I totally rigjt but punjabi who settled 30 yrs ago are also not too good bai ji.

     Thanks

    That's good clarification. Thanks.

Don't know about the sheep story but in the imagination of most people that name Tinkerbell will always be associated with the very girly girl character in Peter Pan so I think the Mods and Admin here should show some kindness and compassion and, on humanitarian grounds, allow you to change your name. To insist you keep it would be cruel ?

Thanks for understanding jigsaw bai ji.

    Hey Tinkerbell, I just realised....you're a boy !! ?

Nothing wrong with being a boy....some of my best friends are boys.....but the question is why on earth would a boy give himself an online user name of 'Tinker Bell' ?????  What's that all about then bruvs ? What's going on ?

TinkerBell was a chapter in my 5-6th class or even before. It was a baby of sheep i guess( baby boy) , I don’t remember properly. When i hot registered i commented a few names like tinkerbell, ludhianaBoy, torontoBoy etc but the Admin didn’t change my name on my request.

    i don’t like it much either ?

    Bit excessive innit ??

What percentage did you say 'no' to and how many said 'no' to you ?

My kids are only little but if, when they grow up. they decide to go though this traditional method I will give them this one sound advice when it comes to these introductions to girls at people's houses:

    • When the girl walks in to the room does she plod or does she glide ? The one that glides is the one.
    • At your one to one chat with her and you ask her what she thinks look out for the one says she's happy but is happy with what her elders say. She's the one.

What mean plod and glide ?

But its not that different for some people in their 20s when I was in school I wasn't allowed to talk to girls lol   so when ever I used to walk home with a girl she would walk like 2 meters in front of me and we would talk like that haha! Or just not use the main roads but walk home through the back roads lol  many people in their 20s were not allowed to have that contact with girls.

But I'm pretty sure we had it easier than people in their 30s  things sound a lot more stricter back then

Don't know what things are like for the currents teens but I doubt much has changed lol

So what will happen to all the Amritdhari Singhs in Punjab the future?

They are already more of them than corresponding women. Gender ratio in Punjab on top of that making things worse!

Then on top of that more females going abroad to study and marrying NRI's.

Meaning that no way can all Amritdhari Singh's in Punjab find local Amritdhari women!

    Solutions:

    1. We need to stop hating on Gursikhs marrying non-Amritdhari or non-Punjabi women!

    2. We should stop assuming that the Khalsa Panth will die out because of non-Amritdhari spouses or non-Punjabi's!

(If someone is so weak that a spouse weakens their commitment to Sikhi then they clearly had weak commitment to begin with)

Especially when Muslim men and groomers who marry non-Muslim women all retain 100% loyalty to Islam in 99% of cases!

so we need to tackle if head-on. At the moment, most of the sikh community doesn't seem comfortable with calling hates as haters, instead we are just watching things slowly. When it's people from outside the community, whether it be white racists, or islamic groomers, we seem to stand up aggressively.  But when it's our own community, we seem to just try and let things slide as the hatred seems to be transmitted to further generations. I would say the anti-Singh feeling has at least reached grandchildren generation now. But since even the lost sehajdhari sangat still seems to be using Gurdwara at least for ceremonies, we can still bring them back even by this small thread. As they are still connected to Guru in a minimal way, we can still bring them back to respect the community. Also some organisations like university sikh societites, Basics of Sikhi, Nanak Naam and others seem to bringing some sikhs back and sometimes these sikhs even take khanda dee pahul.

I been seeing amrit-dharis doing this dating mentality as well. 2nd best or whatever is for dating mentaility peoples, trying to do grihast with ex partners, not good

    Very true

I wanna marry a girl who keeps a joorah, does paath, doesn't eat meat, is virgin, and comes from a traditional family like mine.     Sounds like a lot in this day and age LMAO

    Caste doesn't bother me

Its not much though is it ...

Puzzled bai ji,  joorah karn walia bahut mil jangia( paath karn walia ghat hi aa ).

virgin is like your luck, you can add this point to your requirement list. Even if you do there is no guarantee of it. You can’t even go for medical test as most of the athlete girls who participate in games and sports and perform hard exercises of stretching and bending something lose their sensitive part( you might be aware of it). So you can try to find all other requirements but finding a virgin will look a bit non sense veere ?

I once read somewhere that this world was literally designed to be one of "tests and atonements"; one of a few planets all life-forms must experience before moving on. Once you look at it from that perspective, you begin to reconcile much of the nonsense that passes for human existence.

    Agree ji, thats called maya

There is nothing we can do.  For every young Sikh woman who keeps her kesh, there are maybe 5-10 young Sikh men who keep their kesh.  So except for the lucky Singhs who find life partners who have kept their kesh, most Singhs will be left with one of three options:

    1. Try to convince a hair-cutting girl who most likely prefers a mona to marry him

    2. Give up and remain single

    3. Trim his beard and/or cut his hair

Indeed, there is a problem with the community mindset.  And this problem is only going to get worse with time.

99.9% of Sikh kids who grow up in hair-cutting families view Singhs as weird extremists and want nothing to do with them.  Of course, there are the 0.01% from this group who will move towards Sikhi, despite all the odds.

What about Sikhs who grow up in "keshdhari" families?  Most of them will cut their hair and raise children who adopt the views of the children described in the previous paragraph.  90% of the boys will at some point trim their beards and/or cut their hair.  And 95% of the girls from such families will cut their hair and only marry monay.

I am the lucky one then ?
