I feel that way also, football is not as good as it was on the whole ; the difference is much greater now between the top and bottom professional leagues and teams. A lot of fans feel the same, that the players are now overpaid and happy to take money for not doing much (e.g. you can be a substitute for a major team and be a multimillionaire). Too much playacting, soft fouls. Political correctness like 'taking the knee' and the media agenda of promoting women's football which is of much poorer quality etc

That's true also of other countries too - people support a local team and most also follow one of the two or three major teams even if they are not from that city.

e.g. Serbia it's Partizan Belgrade and Red Star; Argentina it's River Plate and Boca Juniors; Spain it's Barca and Real Madrid

I think it's just a case of getting older. We always think that the players and teams in our youth were the best. I know 50 year olds who say Maradona was better than Messi, simply because they were teenagers when he played.

At this age I couldn't care less who wins, it has no impact on my life. I've got bigger things to focus on.

You have to look at the environment they are living in.

This is Glasgow. It is a place where there is a lot of deprivation, no opportunities, bad diet,  low life expectancy and a lot of booze.

It is a depressing place, people have nothing to live for.

The only thing they look forward to is football. It is the only thing that gives them joy. Plus the fact there are only 2 football teams in Scotland that actually win anything.

It's not that bad. You make it sound like it's Mogadishu. It qasba very violent place in the 80s and 90s but I think it's improved a lot since then.

I can see your perspective and agree to an extent

but most of the older supporters of football teams mellow by the age of 50-60

also, for some (not all) supporters, the team is closely linked to their identity/their family’s identity, e.g many football teams were founded in areas where people had a certain trade/industry

in this case if they are Sikh, it’s a little surprising they support Rangers who are very much a British Union-linked team (unlike their big rivals  Celtic who represent Irish Ctholic immigrants and by extension, Irish nationalism)

a lot of the soccer rivalries around the world are linked to deeper socio-economic history

I see your point as well but at the end if the day it is just a game, a game in which men are kicking and running after a ball. It shouldn't be attached to your identity in my opinion. You should never get worked up about a game, you have no control over what happens on the pitch. When your favourite team wins, it is they who put in the effort to win, yet the fans will bask in reflected glory and claim the victory as theirs.

I stopped caring about football in my early 30s, I realised there's far more important things in life. I will watch the Champions League final and  World Cup/Euros but that's it.

I went through a period not so long ago where I was giving Maharaja Ranjit Singh some stick for not prioritising Sikh interests, but objectively speaking and after having read up a bit more on his achievements, it's difficult to begrudge the man for what he managed to get done as a ruler. The fact that nobody since has come close to power to that degree speaks volumes. He had his blind spots (no pun intended) but he was definitely someone to be admired.

Yes you can admire him as a ruler but should his portrait be placed in Gurdwaras alongside pious men like the Gurus, Baba Deep Singh, Hari Singh Nalwa and Banda Singh Bahadur?

You need to do some paaht or something. Every post of yours on here is negative and hate filled. Do you have nothing else to contribute?

He is right to a certain extent. In the Gurdwara the pitfalls of intoxication and lust are repeated several times but still there are several Gurdwaras with his picture in them. It's hypocritical.

It's sad that we have to look up to him so much. Do Muslims go on about Salladin so much? Do Protestants go on about Henry VII?

  6. Revert back to the old lifestyle and get taken over by people with superior technology and weapons?

The main reason the Europeans were able to take over the world was because they were inquisitive and invested time and money into science. Science which they used to develop weapons like guns, cannons, nuclear weapons etc that were used to take over less developed societies.

It's no different today, the reason why America is able to invade so many countries is due to their superior technology and weapons.

Everyone knows who these khusray are and what they do.

The issue is their version of Sikhi and how they represent it.

They took a survey and 75% of their members support interfaith marriage, therefore City Sikhs reached the conclusion that interfaith anand karaj should be allowed. Why am I not surprised that an overwhelming number of their members support interfaith anand karaj ?

    https://www.citysikhs.com/2015/08/anand-karaj-sikh-wedding-ceremony-statement-from-city-sikhs/

They also advertise Sikh LGBT events on their website. Not sure if they have taken another survey to see if their members support LGBT Anand Karaj, if they have then it would've surprise me if 75% of their members support khusray having Anand Karaj.

    https://www.citysikhs.com/event/lgbt-sikhs/

Nobody cares who they are or what they do, apart from fanboys who wish to be in the same rank as them. it's the Sikhi they are pushing which everyone has a problem with.

Unless you're a city Sikh yourself, or look like one (which you probably do) then I don't see why anyone would support these people.

These are fair points but the language used here is hideous. You need to reign yourself in.

I notice a lot of anti intellectualism behaviour in this forum. It's like being an uneducated violent simpleton is celebrated.

they still think of such women as loose and chiritar heen , sure they have kids out of wedlock because the guys have their dalliance then run out on them , most people still expect marriage to be the natural outcome if people are in love

Maybe so but nowhere near as bad as in North Africa, Middle East and South Asia. Brown people are the most conservative people.

Rightly or wrongly, the 'reputation' of  a woman carries great weight for her immediate and extended families in conservative cultures, e.g. Catholic countries, Indian subcontinent and middle East

I think the Catholic countries have moved on from this. Southern Europeans and South Americans don't have this honour culture when it comes to women anymore. The Indian subcontinent and the Middle East are crap places that everyone wants to leave. People from those countries who want to keep backwards thinking like sexism and casteism alive in their new countries should be deported.

Their argument is they (Hindus) are now 40 percent of Indian Punjab . If india can have sikh pm then why can't Punjab have hindu pm. Ridiculous lot doesn't understand they got away with haryana and himachal.

Their numbers will continue to grow as more Sikhs move abroad and more Biharis and UP people move to Punjab. We will eventually become a minority in Punjab and its largely our own fault.

If there was ever a Hindu CM for Punjab then Punjabi language will die out even quicker than it already is. The Punjabi Hindus love Hindi just like Punjabi Muslims love Urdu.
