  1. Why did Udham Singh have to call himself Ram Muhammad Singh? It just goes to show the subservient nature of our people even back then.

The reason Bhagat Singh cut his hair and denounced his Sikh roots was to be accepted by the Hindu masses and he admitted this himself.

In regards to Delhi Sikhs, it is like the discussion with one of the Delhi Sikhs that posts on here in regards of Sikh women marrying Hindu men in Delhi.

I think with 1984 riots, Delhi Sikhs have been brutalised in a way the Punjab Sikhs have not and it has impacted their psyche.

The ankh is gone and they have been seriously demoralised.

The closest analogy I can probably find is what happened to the psyche of the Japanese people after having two atomic bombs dropped on them, where many of Japs have lost their warrior/samurai spirit. They still have honour in their society but they are lacking something that they lost 75 years ago.

I dont think it's just due to 1984 but the love of money that has done this to them.

Maybe the violence of 1947 and the subsequent stories woke up the Punjabi Sikhs.

I am not sure what is wrong with our people.

There are boundaries one does not cross.

This appeasement is where you hope you get eaten last. This comes from when one feels completely powerless and you are trying to survive.

Exactly, it's not like the Sikhs of UP and Delhi are living in Kabul or Peshawar. Probably hoping to drum up business for their luggage and rug businesses ?

There are serious problems with church attendance in a lot of parts of Europe.

    They lay largely empty.

Europe is now largely a post-Christian society.

Looks like apne are heading the same way!

Letting suls do namaz in a gurdwara is a total disgrace.

Our gurdwara was bombed in Afghanistan just 2 months ago. Instead of a revenge attack we let them pray inside our gurdwaras in India. The most emasculated act possible.

Where is the next Banda Singh Bahadur, Baba Deep Singh and Hari Singh Nalwa?

Ramadan: German church opens doors for Muslim prayers

A church in Berlin has opened its doors to Muslim worshippers unable to fit into their mosque under new social distancing rules.

Germany allowed religious services to resume on 4 May but worshippers must maintain a distance of 1.5m (5ft).

As a result the Dar Assalam mosque in the city's Neukölln district could only hold a fraction of its congregation.

But the Martha Lutheran church in Kreuzberg offered to help by hosting Friday prayers at the end of Ramadan.

Throughout the month of Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and sex from dawn to dusk. Normally families and friends would gather to break their fast and attend communal prayers, but in Berlin - as in countries across the world - this year's celebrations have been affected.

It is a great sign and it brings joy in Ramadan and joy amid this crisis," the mosque's imam told Reuters news agency. "This pandemic has made us a community. Crises bring people get together."

"It was a strange feeling because of the musical instruments, the pictures," congregation member Samer Hamdoun said, noting the contrast to Islamic worship.

"But when you look, when you forget the small details. This is the house of God in the end."

Even the church's pastor took part in the service.

"I gave a speech in German," said Monika Matthias. "And during prayer, I could only say yes, yes, yes, because we have the same concerns and we want to learn from you. And it is beautiful to feel that way about each other."

The crusaders must be rolling in their graves!

islam and other religions have the goal of spreading their religion and trying to make it bigger. But sikhs dont think like that thankfully.

No it's just Islam and Christianity and that is why they are the biggest religions in the world.

If Sikhs never tried to spread their religion how did we go from being Hindus into Sikhs?

It'll be the next UK within 5-10 years due to immigration and liberal politics...there have been cases of pakistani grooming and apniya  married of to Muslim men. In Surrey they say there's a lot Somalians gangs ...but at least Sikhs over there are not ducks like here in UK where you gotta suck up to them

It's possible, Canada is 20 years behind the UK.

As a Sikh, looking at this thread, I think we should move on from this topic. It seems to have been exhausted.

As with the other thread on Hindus, I think we all know that you can never completely trust /trust much in groups of people from other faiths who do not necessarily consider you their equal, or believe you are inferior

Most of us here are from England or North America, where I think the topic is less relevant.

Is it time to lock the thread?

    Less relevant? It's extremely relevant.

Sikhs in Punjab have little to no contact with muslims as there are very few there.

Here in the UK they try to attack our girls with grooming gangs, convert vulnerable people in our community.

    This needs to be discussed.

The Kashmir issue seems to have been seized upon by certain Western parties as a means to damage an India that is seen to have embraced an intolerant and extreme attitude to Muslims. Kashmir is being discussed in the open in a way it never was in previous years and decades. What are the chances of India crumbling under immense and concerted pressure to let go of Kashmir?

No chance of that happening at all. Then other Indian states would try the same thing.

India is not a proper country, it is more similar to the EU. Kashmir leaving could cause a collapse.

Though Punjab is still messed up in many ways   in comparison to other states its sill much better!  Punjab has one of the lowest rape and domestic violence rates in India while the neighboring states have the highest. Hygiene in Punjab is a lot better than other parts of india. Modi made 100,000s of toilets across india yet majority of the people still prefer to poo outside and instead use the bathrooms as stockrooms!  When i went Nanded area i saw people taking a sh1t on the sides of roads!

I'v been to many mandirs and dargahs in India and they are really dirty!  Gurdware are the cleanest places of worship in India.

It's completely true, Hinduism and some of its weird rituals has caused a lot of poverty and general uncleanliness. People dumping bodies in rivers, feeding animals in temples, people marrying animals and trees.

But in the grand scheme of things it's like saying a broken leg is better than a broken back. Amritsar is a filthy city apart from the area near the Darbar Sahib.

Don't forget racial neptotism, too.  And a monumental white guilt complex that's facilitated their "rise."  Most of them being able to pass as white probably helps.  It isn't entirely organic.  Their holy scriptures state unequivocally a non-Jew isn't worth the nail of a Jew, so there's many other factors at play that the modern Western culture tends to avoid highlighting about Jews lest they be labelled as anti-Semetic.

Even before Hitler they were high achievers with many contributors to science.

As far as I'm concerned the European jews are white, it makes me laugh that they claim that they are originally from Israel. They look nothing like the Egyptians and Jordanese who they share a border with.

As for the racial nepotism, our lot could learn something from them, not to the same extreme but something nonetheless.

You could say they have transformed from "sparrows to hawks"

The intellectual class of Jews are Ashkenazi Jews (from Germany and Eastern Europe)

Their intellectualness rose ironically came when Germany rose in 18th/19th century.

It was during this time German philosophers, scientists began to take interest in Indian philosophy, religious texts etc.

I suspect a lot of the Germanic Jews did too.

Robert Oppenheimer (American Ashkenazi Jew) who said to be the father of the atomic bomb quoted "Bhagavad Gita" when dropping the bombs in Hiroshima in WW2.

The atomic bomb was developed in part with inspiration from the "divine weapons" mentioned in the Mahabharat.

That is true, Oppenheimer was very into the Gita and believed in ancient Hindus having nuclear weapons and flying machines. I'm not sure if it's true, who knows.

Ashkenazi are as you said, the brains of the Jews. The middle eastern/north African brown jews (mizrahi) are more like muslims, they have more kids compared to Ashkenazi, much more religious and not as academically minded.

All Israeli prime ministers have been Ashkenazi jews even though half (or even more) the country is mizrahi.

I have heard (cannot confirm) that one of the largest halal poultry farm is owned by Sikhs.

Always be mindful of the mercantile element of our community.  They are the first to sell out.

Make money and make profits but not to the detriment of our Panth.

These people need to be publicly shamed. Publicly boycott their businesses so they understand in the only language they understand  (their pockets).

There is no reason to be halal if 99.9% of your customers are not muslim.

    This is the enemy within.

The thing that really makes my blood boil is those Afghan Sikhs on Southall Broadway selling pictures of Mecca and headscarves for muslims.

These guys were oppressed and thrown out by muslims in Afghanistan and still sell this stuff. It's like a Jew selling Nazi uniforms and flags.

  14. I did a lot of research into Buddhism and did like a lot of what I read, I even applied some of it to my own life to positive effect.

However I didn't like the monk and nun aspect of it. They believe that only the monks and nuns can receive enlightenment in this life. If everyone became a monk or nun the whole world would simply stop working.
