  1. Fateh

Friendly stranger - pls refer to Ang 556 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji... You will notice idolism is clearly banned.

Statue / Image depends on defintion

Coming back to my main points - seems no one has any views.

    Fateh . . .

Banned if it will be worshipped and incense lit & aarti done, they will NOT be doing that or bowing to a statue standing in public. Common sense must prevail when reading tuks from SGGS and used in context.

  2. I tend to find, most of the sikhs who eat dirty halal meat, are the new arrival freshys, who say they havnt heard of halal back in panjab/haryana. If u say to them its 'kuttha maas' then they may understand. But they seem completely oblivious to the fact that we cannot eat halal/kosher.

If they don't follow the Sikh dhari kesh rehat then why would it matter not to eat halal. The animal is dead regardless.

  3. It's a business tactic to win Muslim customers, Muslims are a huge percentage of the population, (and the fact that most of Europe has some love-hate relationship with them). Halal is basically killing an animal from the neck-up, (jhatka is from the neck-down), so these "Halal" groups got a check for no Daya.

No, halal is the slow method of killing the animal, jhatka is one swift move to kill the animal instantly.

  4. why have doubts on Guru ji ? mere Satguru maar jivaala ... so you guys are arguing for the idea that My Satguru is a liar and trickster by supporting the chatka of bakri story ?

what my Guru ji said , he did ...he took those sees given willingly ...

True believers need no accounts of the ability of the Guru Sahibs who were the formless God in each of the ten lives they came in. Satguru Nanak Nirankaar can make the Kaaba move, they can and DID bring the dead back to life.

  5. I wanted to know why many manmukhs just started the hatred towards Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji's bani? (What is it with these people?) Many Mahapurukhs from a variety of Jathas followed Guru Sahib to the end, and know many Pakhands are getting popular for denouncing Guru Sahib, when was that the direction people were going?

If you look at it from afar, you'll find both sides do it for the LOVE of Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Nirankaar Ji! - Those for it, say it's his and the reasons for it being very explicit, sexual etc etc - Those who are against it, are so because they say there is not way Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Nirankaar Ji! can write such things, or can be associated with him. SO it's all out of love, at the end of the day SGGS is GURU and that's all that matters. It has authority over ALL other Granths authentic or otherwise :)

  6. This is the height of stupidity by GOI and backfiring as is evident by the comments. Sikh awareness is gaining ground globally at a rapid pace, through relief efforts, promotion of Langar and the use of channels like BoS. These spiteful degenerates are slowly seeing their cleverness and false propaganda exposed and long may they continue making a fool of themselves.

Politics aside The Sikh Channel, Sangat TV and Akaal Channel are all doing their bit. Be it with competitiveness amongst themselves.

  7. Be nice to get men into the kitchen in the first place

The only positions in the committee offered to the women are "kitchen di seva", with the exception of Sri Guru Singh Sabha Hounslow, where females have actually had leadership roles (stage secretary).

I've been to a few Gurdwaras where the men are doing the Langar, rightfully. Equality in the Gurdwara is essential

  8. I didn't say you did nindya of Sants, you said it yourself in this post.

How can I be joined to a Sant, when the Sant has their own karm, own bhagti, own kamaiyee? Somebody being joined to another is impossible as every soul comes into this world with their own karm. If you think that I think a Sant will give me some of their kamaiyee, then you are wrong, because you are only assuming this without asking me what I think Paji.

I have respect for Sants, Gurmukhs, as we can learn from them, they are here only as guide, sent also by Waheguru. Each soul has their own role to play in this life. So me having respect for a Sant does not mean I worship the Sant. I worship Waheguru, God, the one and only Lord, and I bow before Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. So how does that give you the right to assume ?

You wrote the word " seem ". That's exactly what it is, "seem " and "assume" to you. I respect any Sant, Gurmukh, Pracharak who enlightens with the truth only and of Waheguru, of any Samparda, and it's within Gurmat, and I'm not ashamed to say that, because I'm doing nothing wrong by respecting.

You see you need to distinguish between what respect is and what worship is. So you should not "assume".

Thank you ji, Paji Pakhandi Baba, I hope you understand it now.

My apologies Penji - My reaction was the the actual photo meditation, this is not Gurmat but manmat no matter whom has said it. Be it a Baba, Sant, Peer, Giani, Sian - If one want's to focus on God then there is NO better medium than GURBANI [which you're aware of] take a paragraph or a tuk of Gurbani and concentrate on that than a made up picture of our 'Guru Sahibs' [even though it's accepted Guru pictures in house and Gurdwara]

For instance, the line 'SO DAR TERA KEHA SO GHAR KEHA JIT BEH SARAB SAMALE - What Is That House Like Where You Sit And Take Care Of All - It might be simple but it blows my mind, just contemplating the Lord God sitting there majestically looking at his creation.

    :)

  9. Actually it's not just women, but men also that try to touch feet, etc as you say.

Yes they are messengers from God, and a real Sant does not expect people to bow down to him or touch feet, etc. A normal namaskar is enough, and they do not even expect that or ask for it. I have seen one move away, when somebody tried to touch his feet. So no, a true Sant does not allow it.

Also Baba Nand Singh ji did not allow a lone woman to visit the Gurdwara, she had to be accompanied by male member from her family.

He did not pose, but only rest on a bairagan (an arm rest used as support when praying). Do you even know how much bhagti Babaji used to do? Obviously not. Wherever he went he went empty handed, and lived in a khuli (thatched hut), or temporary units which were set on fire after he left, so he would have no attachment to anything but God's name, spreading God's word. And those with him were told not to accept any money or valuables.

He used to say the real treasure is the faith one has in God.

I respect any Sikh preacher, Kirtani, Sants [not the fake ones,as there are many]

I've not done nindiya, but you seem to be the type who are joined to the Sant and not to the message of Gurbani?

The ultimate goal is for YOU to be one with Waheguru and not what kamaiee a Sant does. As his kamaiiee is for his soul and not yours, just as me eating food would not eliminate your hunger.

Satguru naal jur, not the Sants

  10. I was recently reading somewhere that their Baba Ji stresses on the use of pictures so that the mind can have an image to concentrate on. He recommends the use of mala as well - it is for our fingers to feel something and as a result it helps our concentration when doing path or bhagti. God does not have any paticular image as such. So Guru Nanak Dev jis photo is the one which Baba ji tells people to sit and focus on to keep the mind still. When the photo is not there then it is still engraved in the mind and it helps concentration and better connection to the divine.

This is parallel to something else I was reading where people are training themselves to up their concentration levels. It was about a painter who was asked to paint a certain picture of a landscape without having access to his first main draft. He managed to reproduce it excellently.

We have to realise that it is our mind which is the tricky one here. It is the one which keeps leading us astray from the one basic requirement which is say Waheguru with every breath. It is the mind which makes excuses like I will do it later. its a waste of time. I need some excitement. Here come some distractions so that I dont have to do my simran. My sleep is more important without which I will have a bad day.

God is without form and he will keep existing and stay the same - it is we who are going from body to body, jug from jug, janam to janam. Our mind is the horse which leads us in that direction.

mun pankhi payeo. The mind is like a bird which will keep flying everywhere. The sangat which we get is of the utmost importance. Our sangat will determine what we are going to plant and we are going to reap accordingly.

We are just so helplessly stuck and caught up in the darkness of our mind. The state of which is explained in gurbani as janam janam ki mel laghi is mun ko. kala peya siya. It has become covered with so many layers of darkness that it is going to be a great effort to clean it. Therefore we need the most help we can. concentration on path here is supreme. It can be better achieved by giving the mind one focus Waheguru and photo of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and mala.

Baba Ji stresses the use of Guru Nanak Dev jis photo in the home as well. As we look at it day and night we are going to develop a divine image in our mind which will eventually lead us to control our mind and concentrate it on the one Waheguru who is formless.

My first connections with the Gurus as a child began with the photos of the first and tenth Gurus which my mum had placed in our room. Think about it people do keep photos of footballers and actresses and keep looking at them and admiring them. Why do we start doubting and debating when it comes to the picture of the divine atma who came to rescue us all in the form of Guru Nanak Dev ji??

A photo will also make us aware of the presence of God everywhere in the room and extending outwards too. A lady in the Guradwara was telling us about the photo of Guru Ji which was in their living room. The men wanted to have a drink and felt guilty. So they insisted that the Photo of Guru Ji be removed so that they indulge without guilty feeling as they were afraid to do beadhbhi in that room.

So that is the power of the photo of the divine. It makes us aware of his presence. It is more for our dark dark dirty mind which is covered with the dirt from all the jugs for we were existing in satyug, treta jug and dhuapur jug but we were not fortunate enough to obtain mukti. This is now the last yug which is kaljug. Bhai Gurdaas shiya vaara state this fact. as do the bhagats and tell us this is your chance. Take it. Who knows whether you will be a human being in your next janam?

    https://searchgurbani.com/bhai_gurdas_vaaran/vaar/1/pauri/15

You do realise NOBODY knows what the Guru Ji looks like?

These drawings are not a real depiction of them just what is perceived by the artist, if you use this to think of Guru Ji then Gurbani which is the deh and sarir of the Guru Ji is not working for you....

Now, it begins with a photo, then an effigy, then an idol, then a dehthari....it is always this way

I see a pattern in your posts and the fascination with photos.

  11. What purpose does a picture of a human serve in the diwan hall? The mind should focus on Shabad Guru and no be distracted by paintings of humans. Ultimately the intention of the committees having these portraits hanging play a big part as well as the minds of those who attend. Our dhiaan should be as described in the pangti:

I agree. We humans are foolish [women mostly as they adore such sants and babas]. Yes they might be holy, but they are the messengers but people forget that and start to bow, touch feet, math tek to such, this is the spiral, it begins then ends with what I've written about.

I see no use in touching feet of such. Satkar of the higest form is to say the Fateh, yet some hate this and expect matha tek, this is egotism. Sitting upon lion skin and posing is not the humbleness of such devoted mahapursh

  12. I don't know about the West Bromwich gurdwara, but some other Nanaksar Gurdwaras I been, they have picture of him.

It is not to worship them, but for satkaar only.

Sant Isher Singh ji were a Gurmukh sevadar, Saint and were Amritdhari.

Here's some links, about him, which may help to understand it:

You should have asked a sevadar at the Gurdwara about it, if we don't ask we won't know.

Having a huge picture of a Sant is OK? when they should have Sikh Gurus only? this is manmat not Gurmat.

    Human idolising is not Sikhi
